We came to this little cafe in the heart of Britain as we had heard the food was delightful and the village was lovely. 100% accurate on both counts. Chef Carlos has a great imagination and it shows in the special sandwiches and desserts served. The sandwich I had was a chicken, ham, and avocado with garlic mayo on toasted white bread. My wife had the butternut squash falafel wrap with whipped feta and pickled beets. Chef's lovely wife Nicole extends charm and grace taking orders and dishing friendly conversation. We finished our meal with a slice of lemon icebox pie with a crust of ground digestives. It was light and delicate with a delicious taste. We walked around the village loving the smiles and friendly greetings of the village folk. Walking along the banks of the Tyne is beautiful and we visited the sites of Vindolanda and the Roman Army Fort along Hadrian's Wall. The museums are well curated and the sense of historical awe was powerful. This visit was a highlight of our trip to England from California.

I was looking for a quick lunch in Haltwhistle, I didn't want to buy a supermarket sandwich. I spotted the cafe on the main street, I was greeted warmly and was pleasantly surprised with the choice of sandwiches. I ordered a Pastrami, sauerkraut pickle and mustard mayo sandwich, this was made for me. It was very tasty, something different for a change.

Got here just before closing time. Such a friendly, welcoming place. Food & tea was good, but the service made it. Happily come back to a cafe where the service is this nice.

This place was recommended to us by a few people on Facebook so decided to give it a go. It was quiet for a Saturday afternoon which suited us fine. The two gentlemen on duty were brilliant- attentive without being overbearing. The menu is small but honestly that worked so well for us- my husband having ADHD can get overwhelmed with choices and FOMO so having a limited selection was perfect. I wasn't hungry enough for a starter, he ordered the pork belly bites and the server asked if we'd like them to come with the main which was really appreciated. Husband went for the flat iron steak and I chose the bone marrow beef burger. The food came quickly and was presented beautifully. The pork belly bites were melt-in-the-mouth delicious, so tender and flavourful. Husband's steak was cooked to chef's recommendation (he likes it blue and this was rare) and was perfectly cooked. The burger was a triumph- the bone marrow giving it a rich, sumptuous flavour; accompanied with strong melted cheddar, tomato, baby gem lettuce and pickles it was stunning. My only wish was that it had fresh onion too but I realise lots don't like onion! I was driving so stuck to Fentimans- husband had a craft beer and a cocktail (a reasonable £9) that looked to be their own creation. Atmosphere was lovely and chilled- early 90s pop playing at a perfect volume (loud enough to hear it, not so loud to be distracting!) They even turned the heater down when we asked as it was blasting on us. Would definitely recommend and revisit!

donner wraps are smaller now - i got 2 both under 500g and the bloke looked me square in the eye before overcharging me by £2... £16 instead of £14 - and this was teatime not 2 in the morning, he must be raking it in when everyone's hammered. £8 for less than 500g of donner wrap (its should have been 7 i checked when i got home.). not only are the wraps smaller but he also likes to over charge if he thinks youre drunk. We only went in for drinks but was great for that. Easy to find a table and quick to grab a pint at the bar.

Food average although good portions. Beware of £13 meal deal. Didn't have either of the pints available, were offered alternatives but not told we would be charged separately to the deal, an extra £11 for 2 pints, not a deal in the end! Won't return
