Staff watched my disabled mum come down the steps to get in, no hello only a grunt “have you booked” no we haven’t, “next table is 2pm” had to scramble up the steps again. Not even offered a drink at the bar, no hello and no bye. Rude.

Stayed in the lodge, spotlessly clean, in need of paintwork redone in some areas as paint coming off the walls. Staff are friendly and helpful, had eve ING meal on first night, would not eat there again as the meat wasn't hot was tasteless and fatty, as were the chips, chose nachos as starter and it was terrible.

yet again, perfection. fabulous menu , can never decide what to have but settled on the two meats and two sides. brisket, perfect and pulled pork with the chunkiest chips and huge onion rings, my husband went for the same but with coleslaw as a side but he then proceeded to eat my onion rings, can you divorce someone for that? staff are so friendly they really want you to enjoy the experience. the surroundings and smells make you feel so hungry. two fabulous meals and drinks under £40. cant wait to go back. anyone who says its slow service , its freshly cooked for you. if you want bland quick food got to macdonalds.

What a lovely place! The bar and restaurant are both beautifully presented. The rooms are thoughtfully put together to be comfortable and to have their own unique charm. Went here for dinner. Booked a table and when we walked in we laughed as the place was empty, however I’m super glad we did book, within an hour the place was full! Menu was great. Portions were huge. I ordered the chilli and it arrived in a tray! Could have easily fed 2! Still managed to squeeze in a dessert! The cocktails weren’t strong at all, my first drink after 9 months pregnant and I felt nothing-think that tells you something!

Brisket (lovely), pulled pork (nice but a bit fatty), coleslaw (very average) & mac & cheese (delicious). Pulled pork (ok), Pork ribs (nice), sweet potato fries (lovely), sweetcorn (ok). What was a day out as visiting for a previous christmas break, I'd heard good reviews so we thought we'd try this place. Thankfully there was a table for us without needing to book, but the place was certainly on the busy side. Service was ok, but staff lacked attentiveness, and a smile. Sometimes felt like we were a bother and staff just didn't seem happy (understand when at work) but not in this environment!! Food options were good, I'm coeliac so usually struggle but was assured they could cater and accommodate. Food was good and tasty, partner wasn't a fan of the metal tray look and ascetic though, gives the place less of an elegance feel and more american diner esc. All was well until not long after leaving, the usual signs and effects of having had gluten happened and made me unwell the rest of my evening and following day! Nice place, but after dissapointment not for me, just be extra cautious i guess is the answer!! Parking is awkward but we figured it in the end, needing to go shop to shop to pay £1 for a disk to display is a faf...

The town of Alnwick is a very charming and walkable village, and is overshadowed by the castle, made famous by a Harry Potter movie filmed there. We’ve seen many, many castles so we opted for lunch at The Dirty Bottles restaurant. Warm, welcoming and cozy atmosphere. The American Classic burgers were huge (we should have shared one) and the fries, oh, so good. The pint of Caffrey’s Irish Ale was enjoyed and two other pints of Staropramen was good also. Pleasant staff.

Firstly. I (we) would like to say a massive massive thankyou to all the staff here who made our wedding day and night so fantastic. The night prior to the wedding, my wife and her maid of honour stayed here. The staff were fantastic and accomodated 15 of the "ladies" for tea which was prompt, delicious and spot on. The morning of the wedding the staff were absolutly brilliant with my wife and co. They took the hair stylist, make up artist and photographer to the room, ensuring she was ready for all of them. They provided everything that was needed on such a manic morning, extra towels, extra coffee, drinks, literally anything they wanted. Following the wedding myself and my wife stayed here and the room was absolutly beautiful. I literally cant put into words how grateful we both are for everything they did on our special day. The staff are a credit to the business and deserve all the praise they can get. A number of our guests also stayed at the hotel and they agreed that this place is genuinly special. Thankyou.

We recently came here as a family of 7 for my mums 80th birthday. We booked in advance and our table was ready on arrival. The inside is open and uncluttered, clean and tidy, far better than most modern gastro pubs. The food itself was very good indeed with lots of choice available (1 child under 10, 1 vegetarian) Additionally my mum has some specific dietary requirements that the menu didn’t particularly cater for, and this is where the staff stepped in, seeing our concern. Their advice and flexibility on what they could do for her was amazing. They changed one dish completely for her, with a smile, and without batting an eyelid. The food then all arrived promptly, it was all very good indeed and, to my mind, good value. A nice pint too. Well kept beer. But it was the service and the staff in general that make the Dirty Bottles a cut above. They really did go the extra mile and make it a great meal for all of us. Thankyou very much indeed. 👍

A lovely little pub restaurant with a warm and inviting atmosphere. I went as part of my Key Grant group, where we finished the day off with lovely food and drinks. The hygiene of the Dirty Bottles was very good, with the tables and floors being pristine. Spacing in the restaurant was good, although the tables and chairs could perhaps be separated a little bit more for ease of access/exit. Lighting was perfect and the cosy architecture made the restaurant feel really relaxing and comfortable. The scampi was a delight and my friends loved their meals as well! Service was excellent and friendly, and staff were very accommodating. Drinks were really nice - my friends stuck to water and Pepsi, but I went for the Oreo shake which was really well made! All in all, a wonderful place to dine out and a great way to wrap up our brilliant day!

Arrived 45 mins early for our booking and spoke to bearded man on the desk. Asked if we could dine earlier and told us he’d have a table and to get a drink in the bar. There were numerous free tables in the restaurant. 30 mins later he’d not appeared so went on speak to him and he told us wouldn’t be long he’d come take us to the table. Never appeared and at our agreed booking time he still didn’t so we spoke to someone else who then seated us at the same table we’d seen empty since we’d arrived..!!! Service was slow and sorry the bearded member of staff was rushing round like a headless chicken. We’ve eaten here on numerous occasions in the past and the food was average at best. No Burnt ends left. Tasteless Mac and Cheese that was watery and very poor. Portion size drastically smaller than usual. To summarise poor staff poor food and won’t be rushing back anytime soon. We popped in for lunch after a visit to the castle, with two kids (5 years, and 8 months, respectively). We were slotted in despite it being a busy time and numerous others after us being advised of a wait for tables. We were pleased they were so accommodating of a young family when others may potentially have seen a hungry, shouty baby in a high chair as a nuisance....! Food was unbelievable - great price and massive portions, we were blown away. It's the best value lunchtime feed I've had in a long time. Two mains and a kid's menu main plus three soft drinks (baby enjoyed her puree from home, cheap date) came in at about £35, which was crazy for the quality. The staff appeared a little frazzled and distracted, presumably on account of a busy lunch time, but we wouldn't hold that against them - they were courteous and helpful enough, plus as mentioned did us a real help by fitting us in. Overall loved this place and were super impressed. We live 200 miles away so don't anticipate a quick return but will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great place in Alnwick. Thanks! Pic is one of the mains - loaded meat nachos (about £11 and would've suited us between two adults alone!)

Such a lovely vibe with great decorations badly let down by the terrible advertised Smokehouse. Having been to several smokehouses, I must say this was awful. We either went on a bad day or it is just bad all the time. I was hungry so went for 3 meats - Brisket, Ribs and Sausage. Both the brisket and ribs looked and tasted like they had been sat around for days. It was dry and tough and went cold very quickly as served on a metal tray. The sausages were great, but what could go wrong with a sausage! I didn't even take a picture it was so disappointing. The only positives were the surroundings and drinks. The Summer Sangria went down a treat, which was necessary with dry meats. Very disappointing. I can only assume the locals know this as most people in the restaurant were choosing usual pub grub such as Chilli, Burgers, Scampi etc, which all looked good.

I have loved this bar for years (and still do) stayed upstairs multiple times! This weekend me and a friend came in to this lovely bar and we’re impressed with the choice of cask ale, we were immediately told, “come on it’s not hard choose a beer.” I decided to look at the beers anyway and thought the bar man could’ve been having a bad day. We chose our ale and then discussed which one we’d get next, we were told “it’s too late now you get what you’re given” I explained that I was talking about the next beer and his attitude got worse. We didn’t stay for another beer and we probably would’ve tried all of them if the barman wasn’t so unpleasant. If he was just having a bad day I wish him the best but if this is a regular occurrence that’s such a shame in such a lovely pub that has been great fun all these years.

Regular visitors to Alnwick and have wanted to give this place a try for a while . It’s a nicely laid out pub with lots of space between tables, staff were attentive and they have a good menu - it was hard to choose what to have! I went with the chilli beef burger - it was served with a pot of cheese sauce and fries. It didn’t wow me, being a chilli burger I expected to have some spice to it but nothing, I feel it just lacked flavour. My partner went for the smokehouse meal of 2 meats and 2 sides - adding an extra meat for £3 - beef brisket, smoked sausage, pulled pork, fries and burnt ends. The Brisket lacked the smoky flavour we were expecting and didn’t just pull apart like a piece of meat that’s been slow cooked should, (we smoke our own meat at home so maybe this skewed our expectations a bit?), the smoked sausage was really good, and the pulled pork was ok. The unexpected star of the show for us though was the side of burnt ends - they were decent chunks of beef - smoky and flavourful and tender! I wish I’d just had a bowl of those and a few sides! With 2 large American smokers on site and the use of local meat my partner got excited by the promise of decent quality meat properly smoked, and unfortunately he was just left feeling disappointed.

That, however, ended at the doorway of the Dirty Bottles, where - from the beginning of our arrival - the service was lacking, the staff was disinterested in helping us or answering questions, and didn't provide us with the requisite information we needed for our stay. We had to figure out the wifi on our own and when we came down for supper (well over an hour before the restaurant closed), they turned us away, telling us that they were full, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. The staff were not otherwise occupied, but just stood around talking. They didn't offer us any alternatives (e.g. going on a waitlist, checking back in later), so we had to go to bed without food. Our primary reason for coming was to check out The Dirty Bottles as a potential venue for our wedding reception or rehearsal dinner, but the unprofessional behavior of the staff and the overall poor service here, we definitely won't be considering this place (or recommending it to anyone). The only upsides are that the rooms are clean (if a bit run down), and the location is good.

Very efficient, friendly staff. We both had the Sunday roast. Turkey was good; the lamb, tasty but a little chewy. Very large portions with a great variety of vegetables supplied, and beautiful cooked presented. The place is quite quirky, an oldie worldie, but clean with a nice atmosphere. Music not loud etc. Very good value for money. Varied menu with quite a few vegetarian options. Recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Alnwick. Advice booking as it seems to be very busy.

We were left a review of Dirty Bottles at the b+b which sounded quite promising, however when we read the menu and enquired about food we were disappointed that some dishes and wine weren't available. The quality of the food that arrived was not good. It's a shame as we were so looking forward to our meal having read the review.

Food fabulously good, pricing very reasonable and the drink range is great. Service is the slight downside, slow at best, but I’d still be back for the grub and pricing.

Had an early dinner with the family and the food was delicious. Service was good and they accommodated two small children well. Will definitely return soon.

Went to the shop today and ordered double cheeseburger and fries. Cost 8.50, it was very nice and both freshly cooked while I waited. Staff were nice and polite.

Rubbish food, over priced and wine was day light robbery at £36. Frozen chips, not skin on fries and £29 ribeye which comes with a tiny bit of broccoli, you have to pay extra if you want a potato or a decent amount of veg. Add in the £10 service charge for the 2 of us and think it's the worst restaurant we've ever been to. Avoid at all costs. I hate being ripped off.
