Food was very nice and very polite staff

We only went in for drinks but was great for that. Easy to find a table and quick to grab a pint at the bar.

Decided to give this place a try whilst visiting Alnwick. Quirky and welcoming, the pub was busy but looked clean and organised. An extensive menu, as a vegetarian I had the haloumi fries small plate as a starter, they were great. Then I had the Hot Honey Halloumi Flatbread which was vast, moist and well crafted. Soft drinks for the driver but the bar range was the usual Greene King range. Fantastic service from Brooke who made sure we were welcomed, answered all the questions about the menu and shared the story about the “dirty bottles” that give the pub its name.

I live locally & want to share that there are now plenty of tv screens throughout all areas for watching sport in a chilled, friendly environment. Drinks are reasonable & the staff go out of their way to make you welcome. Give it a go!

Really enjoyed our visit for food, had 3 small plates to myself, katsu dirty fries were definitely the favourite! Was served by Lisa that day she was very friendly and chatty an asset to your team!

Not impressed with new owners menu, not as good as previous visits. The lasagna was dry, salad was NOT fresh as lettuce was brown around the edges, gammon could have done with another 4-5 mins. Frozen chips. I agree with another reviewer, it's slightly better then a Wetherspoons. Great pity as it was a birthday meal and if we had known its now part of a pub chain wouldn't have bothered. Won't be back...

Just went for food service. Great food and not bad prices.

I would give no stars if I could Saturday 15th March my family and I went for breakfast o my God worst breakfast we had ever had it tasted like it had been cooked a while before and reheated rubber food is an understatement the black pudding actually bent the knife the whole breakfast was vile. Now about the staff a family of 4 adults and 1 baby we ordered separate items which seemed to annoy the lady serving us she had quite a bit of an attitude as she hammered away at the till. On the plus side the coffee was lovely and the toilets were nipping clean.

Lovely, friendly pub in the town centre. Much bigger than it looks - it's like a Tardis! Fabulous food, too, especially the home made pies. Lots of ales, beers etc at the bar, including Guinness. Haven't stayed there yet...

So disappointed. We have been going to The Dirty Bottles for years when we came to Alnwick. It was a big part of our visits to Alnwick. It was always great food and service. We went today and didnt know it had been taken over by Greene King chain. We gave up trying to order on the app and ordered at the bar eventually ordered food after 30 mins of trying. Food took another 30 mins to come. A few things not right that were sorted quickly. We were a table of 7 and our plates and empty glasses were never taken away so we moved them ourselves to a nearby empty table to make room before our deserts came. I hate not having normal table service and the food was just standard chain pub grub, but a bit better than Wetherspoons. We wont be back and are really gutted The Dirty Bottles is gone.

Used to come to the Dirty Bottles every time we visited Alnwick, we particularly loved the scotch eggs and barbecue meats. Unfortunately it seems the restaurant has been bought out by a chain, and now the menu and food are devoid of any soul or individuality. We won't be coming back while the current menu, if the old menu is brought back then you can expect us back. Otherwise it's Greggs for lunch now.

We used to visit at least once a week but since being taken over by a big chain the food is absolutely rubbish, deep fried and microwaved, Smokehouse menu has gone and Sunday Roast isn’t worth having - also no horseradish sauce??? They only do turkey or beef for Sunday roasts. The thought and care has obviously been taken over by profit margins. On the plus side the cider is still Inches and good. Hope they don’t kill off the backyard beach side of the pub!

Just a heads up! The staff are lovely, and the pub has a great atmosphere. However, since being taken over by the Greene King chain, the food quality has changed significantly, what was once delicious home-cooked fare is now generic, deep-fried, mass-produced dishes. Such a disappointment.

The decor and atmosphere are really nice. However the food was bland and the menu unimaginative. Perhaps Green King pubs could come up with a menu more befitting this pub? It was a bit of a let down.

We visited last night for drinks and tea around 4pm, while on holiday in Alnwick and although the drinks were good, the food was terrible. My husband had a Greek flat bread meal and I had crispy salt and pepper chicken with pepper, onions and katsu sauce. Chicken was soggy and not crispy, and the sauce was gloopy which is what happens when the sauce hasn’t been cooked properly. There was a dry bitty texture to it from the uncooked out curry powder! My husband said his meal was bland and both were very small portions for main meal prices too. Apparently the locals said the food used to be brilliant but since Greene King has taken it over, it’s gone down hill. Very disappointing!

Be aware this place has recently changed hands and is now a chain pub serving poor quality mass produced garbage food. I had the burger which the menu said was smashed on the grill but they were just cheap nasty burger patties that were not smashed. Most High ratings for this place are from its previous life as a great smoke house.

we visited dirty bottles last year and found it nice, so without reading more up to date reviews (stupidly ) we visited again yesterday, it was disgusting, never have i been to a place that has changed so much in 6 months, the food was slop, the scampi i ordered wasn't even cooked properly and when pressed it was full of water, its not my thing leaving poor reviews but if you want food in Alnwick keep away from this awful place.

Food was great, staff were lovely and all round amazing time. I will be telling others of this place and will be back soon.

Went for drinks with family and friends after an event in Alnwick Market Place last night 28/02/2025. Great atmosphere with fantastic service at the bar. Friends ordered on their app and purchased some food and drinks. Drinks delivered to our table with great service and a smile. Food arrived around 20-30 minutes later. Great portions of salt n chilli chicken goujons, rosemary sea salted fries and a chicken shawarma flatbread. My children seen theses arrive and instantly wanted food 🤣 they opted for a portions of chips and a larva cookie 😋 Cocktails were amazing and full of flavour, food was delicious, full of flavour and a fully packed flatbread with loads of chicken. Great menu choices and even a special lunch menu Mon - sat 12-5 where you can get a paninni, chips and drink for £8.95 😍 We'll definitely be back for drinks and proper food soon. Have to say Brooke who served us was amazing, she was very friendly had a huge smile and made sure everything was ok with the food and drinks purchased. Great customer service all round

We visited for lunch and found a lovely friendly atmosphere awaiting us. The staff were friendly and attentive and all looked to be enjoying their work. We ordered at the bar and I went for salt and pepper chilli chicken and my wife had the gammon. The food arrived very quickly and was a delight. My chicken came with katsu curry on the side and was delicious. My wife’s gammon was succulent and came with both a fried egg and pineapple ring. We both cleared our plates and will definitely have these again. We washed it down with a pint of Inch’s cider and a pint of 0% Estrella . Both pints were refreshing and extremely enjoyable. There is a large selection of food and drinks to choose from and we have already eyed several dishes we will try. Good food and drink offered at great value for money.

Great atmosphere good spot to watch the sport

Really enjoyed our recent visit to The Dirty Bottles, there was lots of choice for all the family and we all enjoyed our food. Although there has been recent changes, there is still a lovely atmosphere and brilliant service from the team.

Have been to the bottles twice now for food. Great value for the money. Can’t wait to try out the breakfast. Staff are amazing.

Lovely, baby friendly wonderful menu *update since being taken over* Disappointing..... the food is nothing like what it used to be! My food was cold and had a hair in, which the waitress quickly took away and brought out a fresh piping hot one but still... no offer of a refund or gesture. The food i would say is now very basic and definitely doesn't feel like a treat. Kids meal is a fantastic price, tomato pizza which can only be described as a Chicago townnpizza defrosted, with cold garlic bread and cold peas...... but for 3.99 a bargin but wasted money!

Lovely staff and inside of the pub. However, it’s now recently been taken over by Greene King and the food menu has gone from home cooked quality to deep fried, mass produced Wetherspoon type food. Such a shame. Be warned!

Called here for a drink after visiting the gardens, decided to eat as our kids were hungry and the food was great! The staff were super friendly and couldn’t do enough for you! Would definitely recommend!

Had a meal there today. A group of 6 that was booked in. Arrived on time and told that there would be a slight delay on food but they can get us started with drinks. We then sat there for 10 minutes waiting for someone to come over and take our order. But then realised we had to go bar to ourselves. We waited 50 minutes for food to arrive. We got given complimentary deserts after complaining about waiting so long. But when they brought deserts over they realised they hadn't removed the plates which had our mains on but was finished. Been to the dirty bottles before it's been taken over and prefer the old pub. Food was slightly above average

Bring back the old menu. New menu simply not as good. Many items in the new menu not available. Disappointed!

Visited after hearing good things previously. However on this visit the food was terrible. Had mixed grill, everything was overcooked and chewy. Sausages almost inedible. Would not revisit.

This is a random amazing review from last summer as we keep talking about coming back to this place but I never gave my good review!! We can’t stop thinking about these hanging kebabs with prawns and chips and are desperate for another trip to Alnwick just to eat here lol. The combination of this and the Alnwick Icecream Parlour down the road is a top tier evening!

Not at all what I expected from the Rough Guide which conjured up an image of a homely, real ale haven but likeable nevertheless as a major pub grub joint serving excellent value bitter (Alnwick ale a delight). Bit like an upmarket Spoons. Not a huge fan of Greene King but this place hit the mark ok.

Great rooms. But bar food, unfortunately.

Staff watched my disabled mum come down the steps to get in, no hello only a grunt “have you booked” no we haven’t, “next table is 2pm” had to scramble up the steps again. Not even offered a drink at the bar, no hello and no bye. Rude.

It's always great cuisine and service!

Stayed in the lodge, spotlessly clean, in need of paintwork redone in some areas as paint coming off the walls. Staff are friendly and helpful, had eve ING meal on first night, would not eat there again as the meat wasn't hot was tasteless and fatty, as were the chips, chose nachos as starter and it was terrible.

yet again, perfection. fabulous menu , can never decide what to have but settled on the two meats and two sides. brisket, perfect and pulled pork with the chunkiest chips and huge onion rings, my husband went for the same but with coleslaw as a side but he then proceeded to eat my onion rings, can you divorce someone for that? staff are so friendly they really want you to enjoy the experience. the surroundings and smells make you feel so hungry. two fabulous meals and drinks under £40. cant wait to go back. anyone who says its slow service , its freshly cooked for you. if you want bland quick food got to macdonalds.

What a lovely place! The bar and restaurant are both beautifully presented. The rooms are thoughtfully put together to be comfortable and to have their own unique charm. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I would like to especially thank Lisa who went out of her way to help me get a document printed and find a quiet corner to complete a work meeting. Thanks Lisa!

A great restaurant, great value for money, lovely staff in lovely Alnwick. We didn't stay, so could not comment on rooms. Will be going back.

Went here for dinner. Booked a table and when we walked in we laughed as the place was empty, however I’m super glad we did book, within an hour the place was full! Menu was great. Portions were huge. I ordered the chilli and it arrived in a tray! Could have easily fed 2! Still managed to squeeze in a dessert! The cocktails weren’t strong at all, my first drink after 9 months pregnant and I felt nothing-think that tells you something!

Didn't stop there, but went for food. The food was excellent, well priced, large portions, usually larger portions mean reduced quality, but this was not the case..no room for dessert..

Only had drinks as we were late walking in, but the food looked and smelled lovely. Staff were very nice and the bar area is dog friendly with the young lady bringing us a dog bowl straight away. We will book next time. Which I hope is soon

Managed to fit us in the Saturday before Christmas for lunch without a break booking. Nice atmosphere. We both ordered the smokehouse 2 meats, 2 sides. Brisket (lovely), pulled pork (nice but a bit fatty), coleslaw (very average) & mac & cheese (delicious). Pulled pork (ok), Pork ribs (nice), sweet potato fries (lovely), sweetcorn (ok). Would return.

Great food and service. Plenty of meat and vegetarian options. Staff friendly and helpful. Food is well cooked and tasty. Loved skins and wings. Been a few more times and not disappointed. What was a day out as visiting for a previous christmas break, I'd heard good reviews so we thought we'd try this place. Thankfully there was a table for us without needing to book, but the place was certainly on the busy side. Service was ok, but staff lacked attentiveness, and a smile. Sometimes felt like we were a bother and staff just didn't seem happy (understand when at work) but not in this environment!! Food options were good, I'm coeliac so usually struggle but was assured they could cater and accommodate. Food was good and tasty, partner wasn't a fan of the metal tray look and ascetic though, gives the place less of an elegance feel and more american diner esc. All was well until not long after leaving, the usual signs and effects of having had gluten happened and made me unwell the rest of my evening and following day! Nice place, but after dissapointment not for me, just be extra cautious i guess is the answer!! Parking is awkward but we figured it in the end, needing to go shop to shop to pay £1 for a disk to display is a faf...

Lovely restaurant, food presentation was lovely, tasted great good portions, friendly staff and fast service,clean and tidy. Only problem was no disability Access that I knew of and had to carry pushchair down steps

We had an amazing meal here and the prices are very reasonable! We were both pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend this place. The portions were very large and the Baileys milkshake was also a winner. Make sure to book becAuse it can get busy.

The town of Alnwick is a very charming and walkable village, and is overshadowed by the castle, made famous by a Harry Potter movie filmed there. We’ve seen many, many castles so we opted for lunch at The Dirty Bottles restaurant. Warm, welcoming and cozy atmosphere. The American Classic burgers were huge (we should have shared one) and the fries, oh, so good. The pint of Caffrey’s Irish Ale was enjoyed and two other pints of Staropramen was good also. Pleasant staff.

Sunday lunch visit. Lovely decor, warm friendly staff. Decent selection of beers. Food was delicious and presented so well. Recommend and will visit again next holiday.

Firstly. I (we) would like to say a massive massive thankyou to all the staff here who made our wedding day and night so fantastic. The night prior to the wedding, my wife and her maid of honour stayed here. The staff were fantastic and accomodated 15 of the "ladies" for tea which was prompt, delicious and spot on. The morning of the wedding the staff were absolutly brilliant with my wife and co. They took the hair stylist, make up artist and photographer to the room, ensuring she was ready for all of them. They provided everything that was needed on such a manic morning, extra towels, extra coffee, drinks, literally anything they wanted. Following the wedding myself and my wife stayed here and the room was absolutly beautiful. I literally cant put into words how grateful we both are for everything they did on our special day. The staff are a credit to the business and deserve all the praise they can get. A number of our guests also stayed at the hotel and they agreed that this place is genuinly special. Thankyou.

We recently came here as a family of 7 for my mums 80th birthday. We booked in advance and our table was ready on arrival. The inside is open and uncluttered, clean and tidy, far better than most modern gastro pubs. The food itself was very good indeed with lots of choice available (1 child under 10, 1 vegetarian) Additionally my mum has some specific dietary requirements that the menu didn’t particularly cater for, and this is where the staff stepped in, seeing our concern. Their advice and flexibility on what they could do for her was amazing. They changed one dish completely for her, with a smile, and without batting an eyelid. The food then all arrived promptly, it was all very good indeed and, to my mind, good value. A nice pint too. Well kept beer. But it was the service and the staff in general that make the Dirty Bottles a cut above. They really did go the extra mile and make it a great meal for all of us. Thankyou very much indeed. 👍

A lovely little pub restaurant with a warm and inviting atmosphere. I went as part of my Key Grant group, where we finished the day off with lovely food and drinks. The hygiene of the Dirty Bottles was very good, with the tables and floors being pristine. Spacing in the restaurant was good, although the tables and chairs could perhaps be separated a little bit more for ease of access/exit. Lighting was perfect and the cosy architecture made the restaurant feel really relaxing and comfortable. The scampi was a delight and my friends loved their meals as well! Service was excellent and friendly, and staff were very accommodating. Drinks were really nice - my friends stuck to water and Pepsi, but I went for the Oreo shake which was really well made! All in all, a wonderful place to dine out and a great way to wrap up our brilliant day!

Stopping in the town, we just had to have a meal here, which we had to book in advance, as its always busy. Good selection of meals, I had the smoke house meal, which was excellent, and the wife had Lasagne, which the portion was massive, had to leave a few chips. Nice decor inside, nice ambience, and great staff. The amount of folk eating here cant be wrong. Dont forget to learn about the history, and look out for the dirty bottles

Great venue with a lovely relaxed feeling and large portions of very good food! We did have an issue with one of the starters as it wasn’t as described on the menu, which meant I couldn’t eat it - but it was dealt with very quickly and with no fuss which we appreciated. Mains were absolutely great! Huge portions and very tasty! Staff are friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back next time we are in Alnwick! Would recommend booking as they were very busy!

A lovely pub grub meal, with great attentive service. Kids loved the loaded hot dogs. It was busy so I would recommend prior booking. Dog friendly.

Had 2 veggie roasts here over recent weeks. Bit disappointed that the nut roast itself seems to have changed between visits. The second one was more of a pate and not as good. Everything else was though. Amazing Yorkies, generous sides amd the pub is nicely done, the staff friendly amd service good. Superb location next to Castle amd market square nearby.

Great find in Alnwick. Good selection of beers, sadly no handpull on the night we were there. Friendly staff, served with our excellent meal promptly. Whether you believe the 'bottle' story or not is up to you.

Beautiful bar, we spent a Saturday night here whilst visiting Alnwick for a weekend. Really cool outdoor (heated area) area. Had a DJ playing outside and the place was jumping. Top night 😃

A great place to eat with nice decor and pleasant staff. A great drinks selection too. Only reason it’s a 4star and not 5 is that they’d run out of Sunday dinners which they proudly advertise as being available between 12pm and 8:30 - they’d ran out prior to us arriving at 7pm.

Great service. Great food especially the brisket. We also had the burger, gammon and the dirty burger. Pancakes with the mudslide topping went down very well too.

Arrived 45 mins early for our booking and spoke to bearded man on the desk. Asked if we could dine earlier and told us he’d have a table and to get a drink in the bar. There were numerous free tables in the restaurant. 30 mins later he’d not appeared so went on speak to him and he told us wouldn’t be long he’d come take us to the table. Never appeared and at our agreed booking time he still didn’t so we spoke to someone else who then seated us at the same table we’d seen empty since we’d arrived..!!! Service was slow and sorry the bearded member of staff was rushing round like a headless chicken. We’ve eaten here on numerous occasions in the past and the food was average at best. No Burnt ends left. Tasteless Mac and Cheese that was watery and very poor. Portion size drastically smaller than usual. To summarise poor staff poor food and won’t be rushing back anytime soon. Such a shame !!

We had a lovely time at The Dirty Bottles. The food was fantastic, and the atmosphere was just right for the two of us to relax and enjoy our night together.

First time here last night. We had a big table as there was 11 of us. Will definitely be back. Food is outstanding, portion sizes are huge. I had lasagne and it was amazing . Staff friendly we will be back soon

Had the Sunday lunch and the smokehouse; we had to book in advance, they were booked up but not too busy which shows they are sensible with their booking slots. When we got there, the welcome was very friendly. The staff were also very switched on with our gluten free requirements, really happy to work with us and explain what was what. The beer was OK, average of the this type of place. The food was really good, good portions and reasonable price. All in all, we were very pleased, well fed and looked after.

Massive portions and very tasty

the staff were wonderful, very attentive and friendly. the food was also very tasty, and huge portion sizes! my boyfriend got the 3 meat, 2 side deal and the amount of mac n cheese he got with that as a side was so good! he also said the meat was really good quality. if anything i’d say the desserts were lacking in quality, seems like the cakes are probably bought in but still tasty nonetheless
