Great service. Great food especially the brisket. We also had the burger, gammon and the dirty burger. Pancakes with the mudslide topping went down very well too.

Arrived 45 mins early for our booking and spoke to bearded man on the desk. Asked if we could dine earlier and told us he’d have a table and to get a drink in the bar. There were numerous free tables in the restaurant. 30 mins later he’d not appeared so went on speak to him and he told us wouldn’t be long he’d come take us to the table. Never appeared and at our agreed booking time he still didn’t so we spoke to someone else who then seated us at the same table we’d seen empty since we’d arrived..!!! Service was slow and sorry the bearded member of staff was rushing round like a headless chicken. We’ve eaten here on numerous occasions in the past and the food was average at best. No Burnt ends left. Tasteless Mac and Cheese that was watery and very poor. Portion size drastically smaller than usual. To summarise poor staff poor food and won’t be rushing back anytime soon. Such a shame !!

Had the Sunday lunch and the smokehouse; we had to book in advance, they were booked up but not too busy which shows they are sensible with their booking slots. When we got there, the welcome was very friendly. The staff were also very switched on with our gluten free requirements, really happy to work with us and explain what was what. The beer was OK, average of the this type of place. The food was really good, good portions and reasonable price. All in all, we were very pleased, well fed and looked after.

the staff were wonderful, very attentive and friendly. the food was also very tasty, and huge portion sizes! my boyfriend got the 3 meat, 2 side deal and the amount of mac n cheese he got with that as a side was so good! he also said the meat was really good quality. if anything i’d say the desserts were lacking in quality, seems like the cakes are probably bought in but still tasty nonetheless

We popped in for lunch after a visit to the castle, with two kids (5 years, and 8 months, respectively). We were slotted in despite it being a busy time and numerous others after us being advised of a wait for tables. We were pleased they were so accommodating of a young family when others may potentially have seen a hungry, shouty baby in a high chair as a nuisance....! Food was unbelievable - great price and massive portions, we were blown away. It's the best value lunchtime feed I've had in a long time. Two mains and a kid's menu main plus three soft drinks (baby enjoyed her puree from home, cheap date) came in at about £35, which was crazy for the quality. The staff appeared a little frazzled and distracted, presumably on account of a busy lunch time, but we wouldn't hold that against them - they were courteous and helpful enough, plus as mentioned did us a real help by fitting us in. Overall loved this place and were super impressed. We live 200 miles away so don't anticipate a quick return but will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great place in Alnwick. Thanks! Pic is one of the mains - loaded meat nachos (about £11 and would've suited us between two adults alone!)

Such a lovely vibe with great decorations badly let down by the terrible advertised Smokehouse. Having been to several smokehouses, I must say this was awful. We either went on a bad day or it is just bad all the time. I was hungry so went for 3 meats - Brisket, Ribs and Sausage. Both the brisket and ribs looked and tasted like they had been sat around for days. It was dry and tough and went cold very quickly as served on a metal tray. The sausages were great, but what could go wrong with a sausage! I didn't even take a picture it was so disappointing. The only positives were the surroundings and drinks. The Summer Sangria went down a treat, which was necessary with dry meats. Very disappointing. I can only assume the locals know this as most people in the restaurant were choosing usual pub grub such as Chilli, Burgers, Scampi etc, which all looked good.

I have loved this bar for years (and still do) stayed upstairs multiple times! This weekend me and a friend came in to this lovely bar and we’re impressed with the choice of cask ale, we were immediately told, “come on it’s not hard choose a beer.” I decided to look at the beers anyway and thought the bar man could’ve been having a bad day. We chose our ale and then discussed which one we’d get next, we were told “it’s too late now you get what you’re given” I explained that I was talking about the next beer and his attitude got worse. We didn’t stay for another beer and we probably would’ve tried all of them if the barman wasn’t so unpleasant. If he was just having a bad day I wish him the best but if this is a regular occurrence that’s such a shame in such a lovely pub that has been great fun all these years.

I tried the mac and cheese which was delicious with big fries. The waiting staff were so nice. We had a lovely server the first time and she was so welcoming and chatty. The second time we visited, the staff seemed really busy and were inundated with people trying to find a table. Regular visitors to Alnwick and have wanted to give this place a try for a while . It’s a nicely laid out pub with lots of space between tables, staff were attentive and they have a good menu - it was hard to choose what to have! I went with the chilli beef burger - it was served with a pot of cheese sauce and fries. It didn’t wow me, being a chilli burger I expected to have some spice to it but nothing, I feel it just lacked flavour. My partner went for the smokehouse meal of 2 meats and 2 sides - adding an extra meat for £3 - beef brisket, smoked sausage, pulled pork, fries and burnt ends. The Brisket lacked the smoky flavour we were expecting and didn’t just pull apart like a piece of meat that’s been slow cooked should, (we smoke our own meat at home so maybe this skewed our expectations a bit?), the smoked sausage was really good, and the pulled pork was ok. The unexpected star of the show for us though was the side of burnt ends - they were decent chunks of beef - smoky and flavourful and tender! I wish I’d just had a bowl of those and a few sides! With 2 large American smokers on site and the use of local meat my partner got excited by the promise of decent quality meat properly smoked, and unfortunately he was just left feeling disappointed.

For the price, the Dirty Bottles is (unfortunately) a really poor deal. I really wanted to love this place, based on all the reviews I had read online and the pictures I had seen of the area. The town of Alnwick itself is lovely, and almost all the people we encountered were enormously helpful and kind. That, however, ended at the doorway of the Dirty Bottles, where - from the beginning of our arrival - the service was lacking, the staff was disinterested in helping us or answering questions, and didn't provide us with the requisite information we needed for our stay. We had to figure out the wifi on our own and when we came down for supper (well over an hour before the restaurant closed), they turned us away, telling us that they were full, despite the restaurant being mostly empty. The staff were not otherwise occupied, but just stood around talking. They didn't offer us any alternatives (e.g. going on a waitlist, checking back in later), so we had to go to bed without food. Our primary reason for coming was to check out The Dirty Bottles as a potential venue for our wedding reception or rehearsal dinner, but the unprofessional behavior of the staff and the overall poor service here, we definitely won't be considering this place (or recommending it to anyone). The only upsides are that the rooms are clean (if a bit run down), and the location is good.

Very large portions with a great variety of vegetables supplied, and beautiful cooked presented. The place is quite quirky, an oldie worldie, but clean with a nice atmosphere. Music not loud etc. Very good value for money. Varied menu with quite a few vegetarian options. Recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Alnwick. Even the exposed brick work. It all just looked superb. The service was good. Maybe a little bit slow but it was busy so I'm not complaining. The servers themselves were very polite and friendly. The food itself was great. Reasonably priced for the area. Not too much that I felt groggy after too which is nice. I wasn't particularly fussed for the cheesecake. But that's just personal preference. Wouldn't say there was anything wrong with it necessarily. The history of the bottles and fact the place was so old added to the enjoyment of the experience too. Great food, tasty, well presented and of good value, however I found it a little irritating to have my food served on greaseproof paper on a plate which ripped when cutting food. It really makes a big difference where you sit - very good in the main part of the restaurant, however not so if you are sat at at table near the front door, toilets, pass and till (cool, busy and noisy) You do need to book well in advance to secure a table. Clearly the food was pre ordered so it could be cooked at lunchtime and kept warm till dinner time. The burgers were of the poorest quality and rubbery - 3 out of the 6 burgers ordered were left uneaten. The lasagna was cold, rock hard and very dry totally inedible. 30% off 3 of the meals was deducted - how do you get cooking burgers so wrong - we would have been better off going to Macdonalds! It was a very large plate, very tasty but those beans, delicious. The only minor negative was the onion rings my partner had, they were very greasy. But don't that put you off, this place is great.

As a place to stay it is cute but overpriced. The restaurant food is okay but can tell some of it is not made fresh but bought from a supermarket. Felt customer service was lacking, some staff nice and friendly but not all of them, one was a bit miserable. Booked in for dinner and told we were sat at a lonely table they had shoved in between the front entrance, kitchen, reception and toilets where the here is barely any light. Please stop sitting people here just to cram as many customers in as possible - it is not pleasant! No one wants to sit next to a door opening every 2 minutes and a table that was clearly used as a dumping ground for files - or bang outside the kitchen where you could’ve reached your own food. Considering what we were paying to stay here for 2 nights didn’t really feel looked after as a guest - asked to move which we were to a corner table in the main seating area. Nicer environment but absolutely freezing if sat in front of the windows. Saw someone the following night seated in the toilet/reception/kitchen area and they also asked to move and heard the staff say “these are restaurant tables too” - not sure you can class them as restaurant tables when they’re practically in the front door/reception.

Came in for lunch while in the area with friends celebrating a birthday. Food was lovely, staff attentive and polite. Had the Mac and cheese dig which came exactly as described and the chips were gorgeous. Food wasn’t piping hot but I don’t mind as it was still lovely. There’s some nice quiet areas within the restaurant which would be perfect for couples or a romantic meal. All of my party enjoyed their meals and that’s with one fussy eater amongst us too.

Booked ahead and requested a table in a quiet area. Put next to a large party of adults/children/babies, of whom a number couldn't seem to stay seated and loomed over our table. Portion sizes of the meal were great but too much carbohydrate (rice and chips and bread!). Some very friendly and helpful staff, one pretty miserable one. If we did return, would probably request the area set aside for our canine friends.

We initially sat outside as we have two small well behaved dogs and it was a lovely day. I went into the bar to order food and drinks. I was advised that food was not served outside. We moved into the bar and tried to order again but was advised they don't serve food in the bar. We were directed to another area where food would be served. I went to order food again and was advised they were fully booked. The member of staff was curt. Why could she not have said that in the first place. Would not return or recommend. Total waste of time. Member of staff appeared dissatisfied with her lot.

We didn't visit as hotel guests rather came for a celebratory dinner for my daughters 18th. It was lovely...the perfect place for her first legal drink too!! Worth the trip from North Yorkshire!
