Starving after walk from Llanidloes. Pub opened at 7pm on Monday evening (which is just as well as there was no other local option for food and drink) and Pauline the landlady could not have been more welcoming. Had the fish lasagne with a good salad and chips which arrived promptly and was tasty but the highlight was chatting to Pauline over a glass of wine and an aperitif. This is a very welcoming pub with no airs or graces but run by people with their heart in the right place. I tried to leave a tip but was told it’s not accepted but if I would like to donate to the air ambulance … sort of sums up the place.

A family gathering of 15 and excellent attention and service. Food was enjoyed by all. I had the roast beef but most had the lamb and everyone enjoyed their meal. I followed this with the brioche and butter pudding. Unfortunately there was no known lager beers on offer and I ended up buying a tomato juice, after trying a couple of beers not to my liking, but that’s a personal choice. I could not fault the service or food, so can recommend the venue to others, if Sunday lunch is your thing.

We had an enjoyable Sunday lunch served by a very polite and helpful smiling young man, I think The landlady called him Jazz. A usual sunday lunch followed by two lovely Deserts.

Called in for a pint after purchasing a car. Great place, just how pubs used to be (and still should be) with no gimmicks just a good honest pub with friendly locals and a very knowledgeable landlady who knows her cars! Will definitely call in again when passing. Didn't eat here but menu looked traditional pub grub👍

This was a fantastic place to stay. I had an evening meal, 3 pints, a bed for the night in a clean room and a full breakfast and got change from £40.00 !! I watched in awe as Pauline skilfully tended the bar and cooked 4 evening meals on her own at the age of 81.!! Pauline herself is delightful: warm, welcoming and down to earth. I had to get up early and so she got up just to make my breakfast. At the end of my stay, I tried to force a tip on her but she would have none of it. My advice is take up the opportunity of visiting. Places like this are rare.

My friend booked this 'hotel' based on the seemingly positive reviews from other victims. Honestly, I do not know where to start. From the outside, you get a taste of what is to come. The exterior has green algae all over the white brick work. The wooden window frames are visably rotting and the glass is starting to drop out. We entered the hotel and were great es with a message saying our rooms were upstairs and that the manager would be there from 19.00 - we arrived at 17.30. There was absolutely no one in the hotel and the place had a faint damp smell. We proceeded up the creaking stairs to the first floor. The carpet looked like it was 30 to 40 years old. We opened the door to the first room which had the window with the rotten frame we saw outside. The room had 1 double bed and 2 singles. Only 2 of the beds had a head board and of those thag had headboards, they were clearly very old and deteriorating. As for the bedding, it looked and felt as if it had been washed 1000 times. It was faded, stained and felt dirty. Towels were laid on the bed. Again, these looked and felt like they had been washed too many times to count. They were frayed and town at the ends. Honestly, if I hadn't experienced the 'hotel' for myself, I would have thought it was a joke. How someone thinks this is acceptable, I do not know. I myself did not stay at the property as the conditionn was below what I could tolerate. My other friends did stay and were unable to sleep. In the morning, breakfast was meant to be served at 07.00. No one appeared until 08.30 when they had to leave. If I could help you visualise the hotel, it would be for you to think of the 1960s film, Psycho. I was almost expecting the mother and son to be in one of the rooms next door If you are in any doubt as to whether I recommend this 'hotel', I most certainly do not! Avoid! This place should have been closed down a long time ago!

I was walking Glyndwr's way on my own and last minute booked a room. Landlady was lovely and a real character. Had a huge bedroom and really enjoyed the local company in the bar during the evening. Ate a lovely evening meal and breakfast. Great value for money and no frills-which is fine by me. The lovely nights sleep and the lovely breakfast set me up nicely for my days walking to Lake Vyrnwy. This place is awful. By quite some distance the worst place I have ever stayed in my entire life. Myself and 3 friends stayed here for the second night of a huge charity bike ride and whilst we weren’t expecting 5* luxury, we were expecting a habitable place. It is only £25 per night for a room, including (allegedly) breakfast so again, we weren’t expecting luxury but a bit of cleaning here and there wouldn’t go a miss. Firstly, the bathrooms are shared. Not great but when you find them dirty, it’s a big put off. Dried poo around the toilet rim in 2 of the bathrooms, a blocked shower and disgusting, mouldy and stagnant smells throughout. The carpets were vile and thankfully because I took my flip flops from hone for some reason, my feet luckily didn’t touch the floor at any point. The window frames are covered in mould. The curtains don’t shut any light out whatsoever. The beds are unbearably uncomfortable and not clean; I decided to sleep on top of the covers due to the amount of hair and other unknown objects inside the covers, and also put a t-shirt over the pillow to lay on in fear of what might have been before from looking at the pillows! We managed to look at all the rooms because we were the only people staying unsurprisingly. They were all awful, if not worse. My personal favourite was the room where the pull chord for the room light would be tickling you in the face all night if you were in bed! Other rooms included unplastered or decorated walls, horrific carpets, more mould and even worse looking bedding. Finally, we agreed breakfast at 7:00. We attempted to go and get breakfast at 7:00, 7:15, 7:30, 7:45 and 8:00 only to find everything locked up and the lights off. We gave up at that point and decided to get ready and back on our bikes to find somewhere else. At 8:30 as we were cycling off, the owner was stood at the window staring at us in a very weird, horror movie way! We couldn’t get out of there quick enough! Hungry, shattered due to no sleep and generally deflated after such a god awful experience. They clearly don’t care about the trip advisor reviews so anyone who’s reading this take it for what it is and DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!! Also, they only have a food hygiene rating of 3 which is inexcusable. Avoid at all costs.

Our first stay at this venue which we found and booked on line. If we had passed it in the street, we would probably have walked past. Having arrived we were welcomed and found a first class room with period features, and all the modern facilities you would expect. Notable two very comfy armchairs in the room in which to watch the TV, SO unusual. Prices are what we might expect for the present times, but it was very good VFM. Food in the restaurant was worth the price sought. If you want soup in a basket and scampi stay somewhere else. We would book this again.

If you want slow service, awful smelling ale, a bad atmosphere... then hey, this is the place for you! Maybe Covid has really taken its toll on this place, I hate leaving bad reviews as I know it can cripple a business. Place needs a real shake up I’m afraid.

Impossible to star rate somewhere like this. It's so individual you will either love or hate it. First of all look at the price, half what you pay elsewhere and the landlady is doing a great job keeping this rambling beautiful old coaching inn going as a community place which it still is as much as anything. We were walking and had a nice evening chatting to Pauline and the locals, you dont often get that level of friendliness and such a relaxed atmosphere. The room was old and huge we had the place to ourselves and after a long days walk it was great. The evening meal was only £6 and the breakfast was great, it really set us up. This is how we used to walk and stay and for us it was a nostalgia trip reminding us of the virtues of an age gone by. Defintely not for the Premier Inn types or for those wanting Egyptian Cotton sheets and coordinating curtains but there's a lot of people out there who are happy with something simpler.

When we saw the outside of this hotel we all laughed. 'It can't be as bad inside, as it is outside", one of us said..... but it was. The paint was peeling off the walls. The bedrooms and bathrooms were grubby. The carpets were not the sort of carpets you want to walk on with bare feet, so we all fought over one pair of flip flops to get us to the bathroom and back. The supper was awful and most of us left it, which was surprising, considering we'd just completed a 20-mile walk. The breakfast was ok. We all turned down the cooked breakfast based on the standard of the food the night before. The place gave me the creeps; I couldn't get out of there quick enough......

We were staying over the road in a B&B but went across for some supper. The limited menu had a range of traditional, if dated, dishes of which I chose Sausage Supper which was good filling food for a hungry hiker. My wife had scampi and chips which was ok. Places like this will die if not supported - so do go there.

This is a qwerky stop off and has good points and areas for improvement. Pauline and her staff are welcoming and the pub is homely and warm. The food is good - fresh and plenty of it. The rooms are cheap and you do get what you pay for. Tired and peeling in places but generally clean and a good place to rest up. But don't expect it to be to the standard of other - more expensive b and bs nearby. The breakfast was really good and served by Pauline, who has a great sense of humour and is really down to earth. We enjoyed our stay, you just have to accept that you get what you pay for in terms of the room.

We were a group of ten looking for lunch at 1pm on a Sunday. We went to the Wynnstay after looking online. As soon as we walked in and asked if they were serving food, the lady replied “we’ve run out of chips!” She then proceeded to say she was working alone doing the car and cooking. She made us feel so unwelcome that we turned around and left.

On a Thursday night we waited more than 45 minutes for dinner and were largely disappointed with what arrived. The steak pie was 85% crust and contained less than one ounce of beef, and the accompanying vegetables, while plentiful, were boiled to death. Walkers might consider buying a couple sandwiches and pints from the shop across the street.

I have stayed at the WYNNSTAY Arms both for business and pleasure over the past ten years, therefore I do not under the previous persons review at all, yes the rooms are basic and the building is an old building, that's the character of it. however what you do receive is the Warmest of welcomes from Pauline and her staff, the breakfast and the evening meals Pauline produces are not just OK they are excellent and without doubt all home cooked to a very high standard, her home cut and cooked chips are to die for none of your frozen rubbish. I have just returned from a three night stay having been on a Fishing Trip in the area although my fishing was some twenty miles away, I had not a second thought in booking a room at the WYNNSTAY arms and will be returning in the summer...M.S. We pop into the Wynnstay fairly regularly as short walk from the caravan. The owner does seem to do everything single handed and does a good job of it. Okay don't expect a la carte and posh waiters running up to you. So what you get is an old fashioned b&b/pub which serves great real ale and nice food. The portions of food are great and the price good so go for it if you are in Llanbrynmair.

We were staying at a B&B in the village and this was the only place to get an evening meal. Our landlord told us it opened at 6:30pm, so we wandered around at 6:45 and it was all shut up. Fearing a hungry night, we waited hopefully and sometime after 7 there were signs of life. A few locals came into the public bar to watch the TV but we had the lounge bar to ourselved. The landlady appeared to be running a one-person show. She single-handedly opened up the pub, served behind the bar, cooked the meals and served them. We were told 'If you want any more drinks you'd best tell me now because I can't be in two places at once'. In fact when the food came it was OK. Chicken, chips and peas was massive and although the green chicken curry looked a little strange, it tasted OK and didn't have any after effect.

We stayed here a few months back and found the place to be excellent again! Last time the breakfast service was poor due to a member of staff, this time the complete opposite ! The pub is amazing and has a nice atmosphere, the restaurant is lovely and the food excellent ! The staff are all really eager to please, the breakfast as I mentioned was excellent with great service ! Room 12 is a challenge for a 6’2 person but comfortable ! The bath should be replaced with a shower cubicle really but can’t fault the place overall and will always come back even if in room 12 :-)
