Excellent in every department ! We stayed here for two nights, had breakfast both mornings, and dined the first night ! Room was beautiful, decor perfect, bathroom modern and lovely ! Slight faults the beds were a little soft so rolled into the middle, bathroom window needed cleaning, but I’d give room 9/10. Breakfast was 10/10 and choice was excellent ! Dinner the service was out of this world, a young red headed lady served us, she should be paid top money for her customer service and dedication to the job, she made us feel welcome and never stopped smiling ! The food was beautiful and well presented, choice was excellent I’d give its more than 10/10 if it was possible ! Parking is a little anxiety inducing as the access is narrow, I’d suggest trying to park elsewhere, but don’t let it put you off this is a wonderful place to dine and stay ! It’s also worth saying in these times of poor service and unloved properties, to stay somewhere where it looks like it’s well cared for and kept up to together is a real pleasure !!! Well done to you all.

We booked for Sunday lunch, on arrival were shown to an area away from the main restaurant. We later learnt this area is for diners with dogs. We didn't bring one. Staff attended promptly and orders for food and drink taken and delivered with little or no delay. The fare for our mains was delicious, the atmosphere congenial, what could go wrong? Sadly, the arrival of neighbouring diners with noisy and restless dogs. This was so disruptive that we asked to eat our desserts in the main restaurant which was allowed by staff though they were busy there. Then an unexplained but long delay before the desserts arrived. It was explained that the tickets had been lost. The booking process needs to make it clear that only well behaved dogs will be accepted in the restaurant and their owners need to help by preparing the dog by feeding and walking them beforehand so they are calm. A great meal for a fair price, spoilt by late desserts and badly behaved dogs.

We had a lovely stay at the Dragon Hotel the room was nice quiet with a comfy bed clean and well equipped. The restaurant was nice they could cater for my gluten free pescatarian diet for dinner and a lovely breakfast. it’s in the Centre of a fabulous village. The one thing that was a bit of a challenge was the entry and exit to the car park it was very tight. Lovely and spacious once you’re in there though.

Lovely old stone building with great atmosphere. Very cosy in the winter. We were looking for an early Dinner and remembered walking past the Dragon on a previous visit to Crickhowell. Having booked online (which was very easy), we arrived early but our table was ready and the staff took our order quickly so the food came out bang on time! It was all home made and very delicious. Prices are very reasonable for both food and drink. We were so impressed we asked about room prices as we are considering staying there on our next visit to Crickhowell. There is also parking at the rear of the property which is a bonus.

Been to this restaurant plenty of times in the summer, but I’ve never had their Sunday roast. We stopped by this Sunday and was lucky enough to get a table. As you can see, we had the lamb and the chicken roast respectively. They were both very nice. I think it’s the nicest Sunday roast I’ve had in Wales. I was suggest that you make reservations as it fills up quickly. I will definitely recommend.

Lovely staff, friendly and attentive. Nice decor and relaxed ambiance. Camembert starter was delicious, if a little pricy. The beef stroganoff was very tasty, the flavour was intense. The hake dish overall was nice. The hake was well cooked but the accompanying sauce was rather bland and this fish needs more flavours. The vegetables, however, were lovely except the menu stated crushed potatoes and it was served with hasselback potatoes, I’d have preferred crushed. We noticed when we had finished eating that we hadn’t been offered anything from the specials board. I would have chosen the starter from there. Nevertheless, it was a great meal with a good atmosphere and I’d certainly eat there again and recommend the Dragon Inn.

A breathtaking warm welcome reception from Dragon Inn staff.. This cosy feel inn with sold out restaurant cover, in a quaint sleepy village hides more than it shows from the front. Spacious room with all the mod cons. Plenty of natural light into the room, with balcony opening into one of the two tiered gardens. Quiet night's sleep. On entry, plenty of extra pillows towels if required. Free parking at rear (entry through a narrow walkway). Free WiFi. Breakfast is cold self service cereals/fruit/yoghurt and a simple menu of hots that can be ordered. Tea/coffee is complimentary help yourself. The bar area has sport on TV and fully stocked beverage options like any well equipped pub. All very nice and lends itself to a perfect village feel to the stay, lovely views of the Welsh hills, and a great base to explore further with a bounty of pubs restaurants and shops within walking distance.....or Brecon if feeling a bit more adventurous! Ideal, thanks so much!

We booked what was described as a 'Superior Double Room' for two nights to attend a local wedding. Our room's dimensions were 9.5ft x 10ft and the bed was 4.6 ft. There is no way this room could in any reality be described as 'superior double'. We paid £125 per night for the room which was so small we drove home (3 hours) after the wedding rather than stay in such a cramped room. A total ripoff and several fellows wedding guest staying there, stated the same. They do NOT provide the accommodation that they are selling - beware!

Kept waiting to be greeted for lunch while staff members were present but ignoring us for about 5 minutes. The greeting when it finally came was not rude but verged on the unfriendly. We we were allocated to the marquee at the back of the garden (no inside eating due to covid rules). The path and steps out of the Inn to the garden were dirty and there was a mess round the unused barbeque on the right of the path. We sat down in the marquee, which is dirty, and sited in front of a garage like door, next to old rubbish, including a gas canister. A waitress arrived to tell us in an unfriendly manner we were sitting at the wrong table (when we had not previously been given a table number) and she would have to alter the computer system. All of that was a very bad start. We felt the reverse of being welcomed. The outdoor dining menu was very limited. We ordered lasagne. Then waited patiently for over 50 minutes for it to arrive. No apology for the delay. The lasagne bore no relation to a proper lasagne. It was served in a round dish with a lot of what tasted like a thin cheddar cheese sauce, more like soup. The mince had not been properly cooked, evidenced by a lot of balls of clumped mince that had not been separated out by cooking. The lasagne sheets were so over cooked that they were a mush. The side salad was not very fresh and liberally coated in balsamic. It was very poor food.We will not be re-visiting the Dragon Inn but will pay a return visit to The Bear when it re-opens.

Beer delicious as well.I saw some recent negative reviews of the staff - genuinely I am. very surprised because we felt that the front of house team were a real credit to the place. If you have a car much bigger than a Ford Focus, think twice about trying to access the scarily narrow car park entrance! Dried out cold pasta with pesto. When I complained they tried to charge me full price anyway because the chef said there was nothing wrong with it. I won’t be going back. There is plenty of choice elsewhere in Crickhowell.

Staying in Crickhowell for the week, we booked to eat at the Dragon twice and on both occasions the service and food were excellent. Very friendly and hard working staff, and good quality food which was served hot. Good variety on the menu at fair prices (even better when Boris chips in!). Easy ordering and payment via the app (even for us!) and good risk-management of Covid.

A went on Wednesday as part of eat out to help out. App ordering system. What impressed us (especially my son) most were the waitresses , super attentive and kept working in good spirits even when the thunder and lightening came. Nice garden and good covid set up

I had the roast chicken Sunday lunch at £13. Was excellent. Included stuffing, Yorkshire pud, good mix of well cooked veg, sausage and a really tasty gravy. Spot on.We ordered and paid on the app and was very easy, you could even see the prices of the drinks. Came quickly, a well organised restaurant.

Visited as a party of three and a dog. We were seated in the pub garden (at the back), tables were set out with lots of space and the surroundings were absolutely beautiful. Food was fairly average, tasty and reasonably priced but nothing spectacular. Ordered and paid on an app and service was very quick. Would definitely recommend even if its only to sit and enjoy the pub garden.

We decided to eat here for our weekly date nite, food was nice (no complaints there but nothing to really rave about either) but the overall atmosphere and experience there was quite average, quite a few stuff on the menu wasn’t available & there was no social distancing being practiced inside the restaurant either. The service was basic & should have been a lot better in my opinion (we hardly seen our waitress) I waited ages to to pay after I received the bill & in the end had to go look for someone. Hats off to them though for working in this this heat, the restaurant was unbearably hot

. We had booked days ahead. When we arrived we were told very few things left on the menu. They said they had a very busy day food sold out. Waited over an hour for our meal. Food very disappointing when it did arrive. Table where we sat had no social distancing. Our first visit to a restaurant since February very very disappointing.

Lovely views and good social distancing. On entering we were shown to a table. At no point was it mentioned that there was a time limit and we were asked to leave 2 hours later because apparently the table was booked and they had arrived. We had 10mins to finish our drinks. We were about to order food. Very frustrating to see several empty tables around us

It was by default that we stayed 2 nights at the Dragon Hotel. We rejected a room at the Old Rectory with a filthy ensuite (see separate review) and managed to get into the Dragon at short notice. Thank goodness we did. The room and facilities were absolutely spotless. Thee was a one way system, constant cleaner, copious hand sanitiser and an obliging staff. We had room 11 in the attic. It was a typical attic room with low beams but fine for us. Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious with a wide option of juices and cold and hot options. Social distancing was strictly adhered to and the one way system made sense. We ate outside for our evening meal. There are lovely areas to eat and drink outside. Service was a bit slow due to its popularity but the food was delicious and worth waiting for. Camembert salad for me and venison for my husband. There was an ample selection of food despite the circumstances. The staff seemed hard working and cheerful. It's great to see the owners mucking in too. We felt safe there. Well done the Dragon!

Lovely meal at the Dragon today. The tables were spread out really well, and we felt very safe going in. We ate outside under the gazebo, which was great. Ordering was efficient with an app (although they do charge 30p per order to bring it to your table!). Limited menu, but the food we had was cooked really well and well-presented - fish and chips and sausage and mash. We’ll be back!

Not much open on a Monday during Covid restrictions but we managed to book a table for dinner in the outside area. It was in a marquee at the end of a terraced garden and there was a notice with a QR code taped to the table. Luckily I had a smart phone and managed to download a QR code reader after a while, this produced a limited food and drink menu. We ordered drinks, then food afterwards which meant we incurred 2 service charges of 30p and then another for a coffee afterwards. The food took a long time to arrive (although not as long as the email confirming it was coming which arrived about 3 hours later!) and was quite tasty but very cold, perhaps it had been hanging around or perhaps it was just due to the half mile trip from the kitchen. There was no parmesan for the pasta, strangely "due to the covid restrictions", maybe that was the reason for the lack of interest and service from the staff too?

We visited twice for dinner and drinks in the garden (which is lovely with a fantastic mountain view). The booking/ordering system (via app) worked really well once you get the hang of it. The menu is understandably limited at the moment but there is plenty of choice - the fish and chips were particularly good. Staff are friendly and it's clear they are all working immensely hard to adapt. Many thanks.

I hadn’t booked a table and with the current covid rules booking is preferred but the staff were very accommodating and gave me a table in the stunning garden at the back of the pub. The food was delicious and the staff all very friendly. Thank you. Rebecca

We had a week in Wales and had 2 really good meals. The Dragon Inn was the other side of the coin. It was really poor. The food was below average pub food. However, the really poor part was the service which was atrocious. Staff had obviously not been trained and didn't know how to work. When our food order hadn't arrived after a 50 minute wait we asked a waitress what was happening. She moved away and called the kitchen. It was obvious from what we could see and hear that something was wrong. She didn't speak to us but disappeared back into the Inn. It took a further 15 minutes for our food to start arriving. When the first 2 of our meals were delivered they came without cutlery. We asked the server to bring some. She then went and cleared tables. When the rest of our food was delivered we asked for cutlery again. Nothing came so we had to go and get the cutlery.I really can't recommend anyone eating at the Dragon.

This was our first visit under the new guidelines. All seating is outside, and rightly so. It is table service only using an app which is new for the Dragon although the menu still seems to have enough on it to suit everyone. The food was just as delicious as before, yes we had to wait a little longer than normal but those who know the dragon will appreciate that the distance from inside to the far end of the garden where the seating is, is quite a long way. To complain about the time taken to get food is just selfish. To expect normal service whilst a business it trying to work with new processes, systems and regulations is ridiculous.I think the team are doing a great job at trying to get back to some sense of normality.

A big thank you to all the staff for making our first meal out since February so easy and enjoyable. We sat In the large beer garden and ordered via an app (beyond easy). Drinks were always brought out instantly and food was also very quick - whatever (expected) teething issues there were on previous reviews were non existent. Service was faultless.Limited menu as per everywhere at the moment but still great choice and most importantly three kids choices. If you're looking for easy service, good pub food and a large beer garden then book here. To the dragoon Inn, you should advertise the beer garden more. We knew it existed but the photos/website do not do it justice. It's a really big and great space. Thanks all. 100% See you again.

Myself and my partner visited The Dragon Inn today and left truly disappointed by our experience in every way. This was our first outing since Covid-19 and was hoping for it to be enjoyable- unfortunately it wasn’t.We arrived and was seated at our table. The table was covered in salt and the chairs covered in chips from the previous table occupants. With Covid-19, this is something that made me anxious to start with and throughout. There were no ‘staff’ available for me to speak to bar young children who I would guess at being 7 and 14 at the very most. I didn’t deem this as being appropriate to complain to a child regarding cleanliness of our table. When ‘staff’ were serving food, masks were not worn properly and didn’t seal the nose as directed. Staff were taking their masks on and off and went from their chins to their mouths but never over their nose sealed. We ordered 2 drinks that arrived over half an hour after we placed the order and had to chase a staff member for this. Our food (2 panini’s) arrived over a hour after order was placed. Something that was advertised as a tuna and red onion melt was very disappointing as the cheese wasn’t melted. My partners steak panini was also cold. Both panini’s were advertised as having crisps with them, neither came with them. Before our food had arrived, we ordered another 2 drinks. 30 minuets later, we had not received any drinks and I asked a young girl, front of house, to cancel and gain a refund. I haven’t received the refund from these drinks nor a confirmation email as requested to confirm this. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and one that I felt extremely unsafe. Wouldn’t recommended.

We had 1pm reservations which we arrived on time. We ordered some drinks and they arrived half an hour later. Our food did not arrive to our table until 2:15 PM. That’s way too long to be waiting for lunch. The food at this establishment is really good however the service needs to be improved. I honestly think this happened to us last time during dinner. I’m going to give the restaurant a pass this time because this virus is causing a lot of change in the kitchen and the establishment.

We were pleased to see the Dragon reopen for food - dining is currently in the garden where there are undercover tables in a marquee area (open sides so great mountain views) and also tables on the lawn area with large sun umbrellas. All well-spaced so had no concerns on this point.Food was delicious - burger and their wonderful chunky chips. I personally am not a fan of slates (also wondered how hygienic these are as I am not sure if they go in the dish washer) and would have preferred a plate but presentation looked good.It was their first night of opening so there were areas of service that needed improvement but gave what was hoped to be constructive comments to the staff before leaving.Menu is varied - curry, burger, salads, jacket potatoes, panini, fish and chips, steak, lasagne plus a few desserts. Pendragon chocolate tart sounded delicious.I am sure they would welcome a visit if you’re happy to eat outside. You order both meals and drinks via an app which you download when at your table and you pay via the app too - so don’t forget your specs. There is a 30p charge for this service. It was quite busy and a little congested entering/leaving but have since remembered that there is a gate from the garden so if a one-way system was in place, this would reduce the need to pass other diners in the hallway area. Loos are open and inside.Indoor dining should resume in Wales in early August so am sure it will only get busier so give it a whirl soon - hope you enjoy.

I rarely criticise on this site but feel that I have to this time. My boyfriend was booked into this hotel earlier this week online by his company. Two hour trip to hotel tonight after working in Midlands all day. Told it was closed when he arrived. Now driving back to South Somerset to his own home and won't arrive until 9pm. Early start doing essential work throughout Wales tomorrow. To make matters worse Facebook says always open and I am able to book night's stay tonight through this social media platform. Change home page on website please owners which says:'The Dragon is family owned and whether you stay, eat or pop in for a coffee you will always be welcomed.' Not true. In these difficult times your fundamental admin errors which have persisted after this mistake can cause significant distress.
