We stayed here a few months back and found the place to be excellent again! Last time the breakfast service was poor due to a member of staff, this time the complete opposite ! The pub is amazing and has a nice atmosphere, the restaurant is lovely and the food excellent ! The staff are all really eager to please, the breakfast as I mentioned was excellent with great service ! Room 12 is a challenge for a 6’2 person but comfortable ! The bath should be replaced with a shower cubicle really but can’t fault the place overall and will always come back even if in room 12 :-)

We were five adults nearly at our holiday destination, but were early. Two in our group had been to the Dragon Inn before and suggested stopping for a drink. Crickhowell is a super place and we received a warm welcome from the staff at the Dragon Inn. Thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and the atmosphere was great.

The service was good on our most recent visit and the food and drinks. Unfortunately, like a lot of places these days, the staff have little or no interest in who you are or where you have come from sadly. It was disappointing to be given drinking glasses that really needed to have been washed in a machine and not by hand.

Stopped by as we were staying in Cwmdu for the week. Had been recommended the bear, but wandered down the road and found the dragon instead. It was busy, but we were seated immediately and the staff were the friendliest I have ever encountered. On top of the impeccable service, the food was delicious. My husband and I both had burgers, myself the dragon burger and he had the dragon fire. The chips were some of the best I have ever tasted and the burger was absolutely perfect. On top of the great food and service, dogs were very welcome and ours was fussed over, despite how busy they were. Cannot fault this place and I'm sure we'll be back. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for good food, a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff.

We visited for drinks, lunchtime snacks and even dinner one evening. Couldn’t fault the staff, they were brilliant. Lots of local drinks on tap, I loved the Welsh cider. Pizza from the garden bar was also excellent. The rear garden is very large, spacious in between tables and views of table mountain. We had rare ribeye steaks and they were cooked perfectly!(we’ve ate a lot of steaks in a lot of places too). Would definitely go back

When we called to decorate the table etc, some of the table was set, was informed that the rest would be done before we arrived in the evening, on the way home I received a phone call to pre order, this was the first correspondence I received regarding this apart from booking confirmation, I then had to rush to get everyone's order in... upon arriving in the evening we had to ask for cutlery as part of the table hadn't been set, everyone found the menu to be limited and same with dessert menu, there was a vegetarian curry but not a meat curry so one of the party didn't come, although service was good and the food lovely we all thought it wasn't value for money, some of the party left still hungry. A lot of money (£231 with one drink each and for one course meal) Don't think I would visit again....

Went there to celebrate our little boys 5th birthday, initial impressions were good, we had a table and were seated, staff were friendly, drinks orders were taken and our boy was given some colouring to do, our food order was taken and so far all was well.. then the food took ages to arrive, (there were 5 of us) the first 2 meals came out, the chicken supreme looked good but the cod with vegetables looked like a starter although both were tasty, 5 minutes passed before my sons lasagne (children's menu) came out, looked good but had the temperature of lava, no warning that the plates were hot either, another 5 minutes and the burger that I ordered came out, with the incorrect fries so the server apologised and took it back, another 5 minutes and it came back with the correct fries along with the final meal which was the pie off the specials board, that came with mash which was incorrect, should've been chunky chips, so that went back, whilst this was happening I bit into my burger, only to find out that it wasn't the burger I ordered, the pie came back and I informed the server that the burger was incorrect, he went to take it away but by that time we we're just so annoyed and we just wanted to eat, I told them to just leave it, not once were we asked about our meals or for extra drinks, what we had was tasty but the overall experience was awful.

Excellent in every department ! We stayed here for two nights, had breakfast both mornings, and dined the first night ! Room was beautiful, decor perfect, bathroom modern and lovely ! Slight faults the beds were a little soft so rolled into the middle, bathroom window needed cleaning, but I’d give room 9/10. Breakfast was 10/10 and choice was excellent ! Dinner the service was out of this world, a young red headed lady served us, she should be paid top money for her customer service and dedication to the job, she made us feel welcome and never stopped smiling ! The food was beautiful and well presented, choice was excellent I’d give its more than 10/10 if it was possible ! Parking is a little anxiety inducing as the access is narrow, I’d suggest trying to park elsewhere, but don’t let it put you off this is a wonderful place to dine and stay ! It’s also worth saying in these times of poor service and unloved properties, to stay somewhere where it looks like it’s well cared for and kept up to together is a real pleasure !!! Well done to you all.

We booked for Sunday lunch, on arrival were shown to an area away from the main restaurant. We later learnt this area is for diners with dogs. We didn't bring one. Staff attended promptly and orders for food and drink taken and delivered with little or no delay. The fare for our mains was delicious, the atmosphere congenial, what could go wrong? Sadly, the arrival of neighbouring diners with noisy and restless dogs. This was so disruptive that we asked to eat our desserts in the main restaurant which was allowed by staff though they were busy there. Then an unexplained but long delay before the desserts arrived. It was explained that the tickets had been lost. The booking process needs to make it clear that only well behaved dogs will be accepted in the restaurant and their owners need to help by preparing the dog by feeding and walking them beforehand so they are calm. A great meal for a fair price, spoilt by late desserts and badly behaved dogs.

Lovely old stone building with great atmosphere. Very cosy in the winter. We were looking for an early Dinner and remembered walking past the Dragon on a previous visit to Crickhowell. Having booked online (which was very easy), we arrived early but our table was ready and the staff took our order quickly so the food came out bang on time! It was all home made and very delicious. Prices are very reasonable for both food and drink. We were so impressed we asked about room prices as we are considering staying there on our next visit to Crickhowell. There is also parking at the rear of the property which is a bonus.

Lovely staff, friendly and attentive. Nice decor and relaxed ambiance. Camembert starter was delicious, if a little pricy. The beef stroganoff was very tasty, the flavour was intense. The hake dish overall was nice. The hake was well cooked but the accompanying sauce was rather bland and this fish needs more flavours. The vegetables, however, were lovely except the menu stated crushed potatoes and it was served with hasselback potatoes, I’d have preferred crushed. We noticed when we had finished eating that we hadn’t been offered anything from the specials board. I would have chosen the starter from there. Nevertheless, it was a great meal with a good atmosphere and I’d certainly eat there again and recommend the Dragon Inn.

A breathtaking warm welcome reception from Dragon Inn staff.. This cosy feel inn with sold out restaurant cover, in a quaint sleepy village hides more than it shows from the front. Spacious room with all the mod cons. Plenty of natural light into the room, with balcony opening into one of the two tiered gardens. Quiet night's sleep. On entry, plenty of extra pillows towels if required. Free parking at rear (entry through a narrow walkway). Free WiFi. Breakfast is cold self service cereals/fruit/yoghurt and a simple menu of hots that can be ordered. Tea/coffee is complimentary help yourself. The bar area has sport on TV and fully stocked beverage options like any well equipped pub. All very nice and lends itself to a perfect village feel to the stay, lovely views of the Welsh hills, and a great base to explore further with a bounty of pubs restaurants and shops within walking distance.....or Brecon if feeling a bit more adventurous! Ideal, thanks so much!

We booked what was described as a 'Superior Double Room' for two nights to attend a local wedding. Our room's dimensions were 9.5ft x 10ft and the bed was 4.6 ft. There is no way this room could in any reality be described as 'superior double'. We paid £125 per night for the room which was so small we drove home (3 hours) after the wedding rather than stay in such a cramped room. Kept waiting to be greeted for lunch while staff members were present but ignoring us for about 5 minutes. The greeting when it finally came was not rude but verged on the unfriendly. We we were allocated to the marquee at the back of the garden (no inside eating due to covid rules). The path and steps out of the Inn to the garden were dirty and there was a mess round the unused barbeque on the right of the path. We sat down in the marquee, which is dirty, and sited in front of a garage like door, next to old rubbish, including a gas canister. A waitress arrived to tell us in an unfriendly manner we were sitting at the wrong table (when we had not previously been given a table number) and she would have to alter the computer system. All of that was a very bad start. We felt the reverse of being welcomed. The outdoor dining menu was very limited. We ordered lasagne. Then waited patiently for over 50 minutes for it to arrive. No apology for the delay. The lasagne bore no relation to a proper lasagne. It was served in a round dish with a lot of what tasted like a thin cheddar cheese sauce, more like soup. The mince had not been properly cooked, evidenced by a lot of balls of clumped mince that had not been separated out by cooking. The lasagne sheets were so over cooked that they were a mush. The side salad was not very fresh and liberally coated in balsamic. It was very poor food.We will not be re-visiting the Dragon Inn but will pay a return visit to The Bear when it re-opens.

This is a great pub/restaurant with rooms, really well located as a base for hill walking in the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. We thought the restaurant food was tasty, well presented and fairly priced. We particularly felt that the staff (who we met at breakfast, afternoon beer time and at dinner) were always friendly, co-operative and knowledgable and made us feel very welcome. Beer delicious as well.I saw some recent negative reviews of the staff - genuinely I am. very surprised because we felt that the front of house team were a real credit to the place. If you have a car much bigger than a Ford Focus, think twice about trying to access the scarily narrow car park entrance! Park your 4x4 on the street...Bedrooms are, shall we say, "charming", with some occasionally very loud plumbing and creaky floors. But we will certainly be coming back, and you can't say better than that.

Possibly a little over the top on the virus measures but I understand my conceptions differ to others and that the ultra safe precautions are appreciated by many. We ate here on one of our nights with the lasagne being a highlight. Even better when dipped with the halloumi fries! Breakfast was also very pleasant. Service could have been quicker but we were not in any great rush so fitted our agenda perfectly. The car park has a super tight entrance. Nervous drivers might want to consider parking in the town car park which is only a few minutes walk up the road.Overall excellent pub/B+B. We will be back. Thanks The Dragon. :-)

Visited for my husband's birthday. It was raining, but we were positioned underneath a large markee The food was good and efficiently served. Prices were reasonable for the standard. Will visit again.

This used to be an OK alternative to Bear Hotel. Eaten here a couple of times in the past 6 months and very disappointed. We were booked in for dinner and watched most of the unbooked folks turned away. We weren't greeted, we were met by a member of staff with a face mask under her nose, on a lectern, and marked as present on her clipboard. Staff were very busy, reasonably attentive, no time for pleasantries.Steak was just OK, no attempt to make the plate look enticing. Chips were just warm and mushy.Pudding was a poorly presented bought--in. Shame. Lovely building, lovely garden with extra seating, tricky car park entrance through ancient coach way. Should have listened to the locals.

Called for a drink on the patio. Nice surroundings but the two waitress were brusque and overbearing. Perhaps they were overwhelmed by the inn's complicated response to covit but perhaps my wife and I lay too much score in expecting to be treated as we try to treat others.

My husband and I have just come back from a five-night stay. Very good vegetarian breakfast every morning. Perfectly cooked & presented and served with a delicious traditional homemade Glamorgan vege sausage.A special mention must go to the amazing restaurant manager Francesca who managed the entire breakfast room and servings for all guests single handedly and always with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble for her & her customer service was exemplary.Another special thank you must go to one of the hotel managers, Beth. Beth managed a last-minute issue we had with our room and sorted the problem very quickly, expertly, helpfully and did everything she could do to make the rest of our stay enjoyable. Excellent customer service skills. Thank you so much Beth. All staff at the hotel have a very friendly approach to their work and to customers.

This place blew us away - fantastic staff and delicious food. The highlight was actually the kids menu - the kids fish and chips was amazing! We had the venison, and cod with chorizo - both brilliantly executed and presented. Highly recommended!

Comfortable accommodation in a central location, very clean and staff particularly friendly and helpful. Food was good and reasonably priced. Can be noisy in evenings as busy outside garden area, but quiet at night

We booked a table ahead. We were given a menu but no mention of starters, we guessed it was a mistake we asked the waitress who said, I don’t know if we do starters, eventually she asked another waitress who said they didn’t do them. A little unusual for a pub offering food. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was plonked on the table with the cork still in it. I had to take the bottle to the bar to get it opened. The actual meal eventually arrived and was average I guess. Warning if you have the sausage and mash the sausages are very peppery. We were disappointed with the whole experience, the food and service wasn’t good. Know body can blame COVID, service is service with or without COVID.

Nice pub, good food and friendly staff. The menu was small but I think that was due to Covid. The pub had a great atmosphere and was very cosy.

We visited The Dragon for lunch and were seated on request outside under a large umbrella (which was great as it was a drizzly day!). We did have quite a wait for the food and drink but as we not in a rush it was not a problem. The food was fine and there were good social distancing measures in place.

Probably the longest I've waited for food in my lifetime. 1 hour 40 minutes. It was a shame as the food was nice and the staff friendly.

Lunch today was appalling. I have dined at this pub many times and although the service is always poor the food is usually good. However today the salmon linguine was inedible. Dried out cold pasta with pesto. When I complained they tried to charge me full price anyway because the chef said there was nothing wrong with it. I won’t be going back. There is plenty of choice elsewhere in Crickhowell.

Staying in Crickhowell for the week, we booked to eat at the Dragon twice and on both occasions the service and food were excellent. Very friendly and hard working staff, and good quality food which was served hot. Good variety on the menu at fair prices (even better when Boris chips in!). Easy ordering and payment via the app (even for us!) and good risk-management of Covid.

A went on Wednesday as part of eat out to help out. App ordering system. What impressed us (especially my son) most were the waitresses , super attentive and kept working in good spirits even when the thunder and lightening came. Nice garden and good covid set up

We decided to eat here for our weekly date nite, food was nice (no complaints there but nothing to really rave about either) but the overall atmosphere and experience there was quite average, quite a few stuff on the menu wasn’t available & there was no social distancing being practiced inside the restaurant either. The service was basic & should have been a lot better in my opinion (we hardly seen our waitress) I waited ages to to pay after I received the bill & in the end had to go look for someone. Hats off to them though for working in this this heat, the restaurant was unbearably hot

I had the roast chicken Sunday lunch at £13. Was excellent. Included stuffing, Yorkshire pud, good mix of well cooked veg, sausage and a really tasty gravy. Spot on.We ordered and paid on the app and was very easy, you could even see the prices of the drinks. Came quickly, a well organised restaurant.

Visited as a party of three and a dog. We were seated in the pub garden (at the back), tables were set out with lots of space and the surroundings were absolutely beautiful. Food was fairly average, tasty and reasonably priced but nothing spectacular. Ordered and paid on an app and service was very quick. Would definitely recommend even if its only to sit and enjoy the pub garden.

. We had booked days ahead. When we arrived we were told very few things left on the menu. They said they had a very busy day food sold out. Waited over an hour for our meal. Food very disappointing when it did arrive. Table where we sat had no social distancing. Our first visit to a restaurant since February very very disappointing.

I love this place, Coach & Horses under new management, very friendly staff and I love the food, decent portions, and the Salt and Pepper Squid is to die for. Main course is great tasting as well. Fabulous prices.

We visited whilst on our way down to Builth Wells. A family of 8. Food was fabulous very tasty. Staff extremely friendly and worked very fast to serve our Sunday lunch. Very large portions and a huge bowl of cauliflower cheese unfortunately only one of our party liked that so a lot went to waste. We would definitely recommend! Diolch yn fawr/thank you very much

We stayed here for bed and breakfast while enjoying walking in the National Park. Rooms are spacious and clean, if nt a little dated. Friendly service from staff and a fabulous breakfast. A nice chilled atmosphere to the hotel. All reasonably priced, and we look forward to returning again.

We stopped here for a few drinks and sat in the pub which was lovely. Plenty of seats and warm cosy rooms. Also had a lovely fuss of Bailey the local dog :) The landlord was very friendly and very kind to give me a birthday drink :) also he gave us some beer and cider recommendations. Reasonable prices and a spotlessly clean pub and toilets. Especially the day after New Year’s Day!! Lots of bar snacks and the landlord told us they have a pizza oven which sounds lovely so shall we come back to have one. Very good atmosphere!!!! We are staying at a local lodge and have came in here a few times. Recommend if you're in the area.
