Went here for a wedding reception & I was truly impressed by the location and setting of the hotel/venue. The staff were polite and welcoming, and the space and decor were spot on. I have given the rooms a 4 star, only because I've not had the pleasure to stay at the hotel yet, but saying that I would definitely like to experiment with what the hotel has to offer. As I was only attending the wedding in the evening reception, I'm unaware of cost value. But saying that, I'd still recommend checking the wroxeter hotel out

Popped in for an afternoon Tea and was pleased with the initial welcome, staff friendly. This venue can be difficult to get the dates you want as they are primarily a wedding venue as was the case the day we went which does mean the carpark was busy. The room used for Afternoon Tea is separate so no impact there. Although we had requested extra savory goods and less sweet products it was still cake-based and the savory was just sandwiches even though the menu said otherwise. On questioning this they said the menu had just been changed for new one. This to me is frustrating as they had printed our surname on the menu but couldn't be bothered to print the new menu. The pigs in blankets we thought were coming therefore did not materialise, this is a common fault I find with afternoon cream Tea that there is just no imagination on the savory selection. Location - fairly easy to find but beware of the last mile as very narrow country road. Staff - the 2 young girls and manager were very professional, polite and helpful, a definite plus for the venue. Toilets - immaculately clean and plenty of space even for those with walking frames, sticks or chairs. Value - great value especially as we went through Groupon. Venue room - beautiful room, spacious so not on top of other guests. Display of food looked good.

Booked for Sunday lunch after sampling their afternoon tea and wasn't disappointed. We only ordered the two courses. Please we did were both getting on in years so not big eaters. The main course My partner ordered the Lamb she reckons it's one of the most flavour some she had in years and we eat out a lot. I had the pork with crackling which was good. Good selection of fresh veg appear to have been roasted ithe meat juice and cauliflower cheese. . Pudding we both had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream which was moist not dry. The portions on both the main and pudding very generous. Also had a bottle of wine which were reasonable priced. We were both stuffed to the point of being uncomfortable. Over an excellent mean staff very friendly and helpful. Would I go again already booked

We enjoyed a superb afternoon tea at the Wroxeter Hotel. This was a birthday gift from my niece - what a great idea. The setting of the hotel is lovely - nestled between the ancient Roman city site and the village church (partly built with remnants of the Roman city - very interesting - go and have a look at the entrance gate, framed by ancient Roman columns). Enough history - although it all adds to the experience. The hotel staff were very welcoming - and our hostess for the afternoon, Jen C, was lovely - friendly, helpful and attentive without being intrusive. A glass of sparkling wine and pots of tea and coffee were soon brought to our table which was in an open and airy conservatory overlooking the drive and gardens. The food then arrived - so beautifully and creatively presented on a mini garden bench that it made us laugh and smile. The sandwiches - imaginative variations on the classics of smoked salmon & cream cheese, ham & mustard, cheese and pickle, were all fun and tasted wonderful. The chocolate brownie was deep and rich. The massive scones were fresh, warm and served with fine quality jam and thick clotted cream. So far, so delicious. However, the star of the show had to be the variation of an Eton Mess served in flower pot!. Topped with highest quality chocolate swirls, working down through a thick cream to a crunchy 'edible soil' meringue base, we passed through a heavenly layer flavoured with rose and fresh raspberry. Possibly one of the most delicious desserts I have ever eaten in my life. Well done to the staff at the Wroxeter - an afternoon tea isn't cheap, but when you get something of this quality it is worth every penny. We finished off with a pleasant stroll around the grounds. What a lovely experience - it has tempted us to book one of the smaller events packages they offer (the offer a wide range) - either for my mother-in-law's 80th birthday meal or as a future anniversary celebration. Based on the experience we had I would highly recommend the Wroxeter Hotel.

We have weather forecasts for a reason. Yes, the temperature had dropped and we did dress accordingly but the conservatory restaurant was very cold at lunchtime. Many in our party kept their coats on till the meal was served. The plates and food wasn’t piping hot when it arrived so went cold very quickly. My desert was very disappointing, the Lemon meringue tart was just like lemon curd in pastry with a minuscule amount of meringue. Certainly not value for money. The staff were very helpful but I just wanted to get in the car to warm up. Hope our visit is better.

The hotel is in a lovely country setting. It is very quiet. We stayed overnight, had breakfast and an evening meal. It was a package tailored for our group of ten. We had our evening meal and one of our breakfasts privately in one of the conservatories. The rooms were comfortable, beds and bathrooms both fine. The staff are charming and helpful and both breakfast and evening meals were pleasant. We were the only overnight guests as far as we could judge although there were a couple of daytime events. There is a slight quirkiness to this hotel, large wig wam style tents in the grounds, staff are characters but this added to it's charm. I loved staying here as did most of my friends.

Attended sons wedding. Outdoor ceremony lovely, but woodland area looked tired as some of the flowers were dying off which was a shame. Rooms were OK but there were Staines in carpet and on dressing table stool. My mums was unable to take a shower as there was mould into the top corner and tiles were filthy - we did raise this issue a few weeks earlier we visited to have a look at accommodation and was told it would be cleaned - obviously not! Wedding breakfast in the conservatory was nice and staff worked hard to make sure we were all served at the same time. Evening fish and chips supper were not so good. They were served in very greasy paper so we had to make sure we didn't have them anywhere we need our wedding attire. Husband had to wait along with several other guests as they had run out which meant he ate his a good 15 minutes after everyone else. I don't know what fish was used but it tasted awful and lots or our family members left the fish! The staff were always friendly but in my opinion this is a 3 star hotel charging 5 star prices! Drinks over priced but that is what you pay when you are in the middle of no-where! If you are buying wine I suggest you get your own and pay corkage it works out so much cheaper and any you don't use you are refunded corkage (which has to be paid up front). Breakfast ok, but no fresh fruit or yogurt. Staff friendly and supplied us with endless cups of tea/coffee and toast. The views are magnificent and I feel that is the price you overpay for.

Used to be good but it has all got rather tired. Sometimes it is okay but other times definitely not so. It rather depends on what you expect. Bar service is always slow. Menu is not that exciting - all a bit predictable, unimaginative and mostly seems bought in even though they boast a chef. You can tell by the uniformity and presentation of the portions. The Taste of Shropshire might just as easily be the Taste of Yorkshire, Wiltshire, Somerset or Tyneside. They do serve veg and potatoes as part of the meal which is good these days as so many places sting you for them as an extra. Vegetarian friends find the choices dull and limited. Most staff seem okay at the job, there just seems to be a lethargy about the whole place. As Claire B said, no ambience. The hotel and everyone in it needs a good shake up and a shot of enthusiasm for the work they do. That comes from good management. This could be a fantastic place, such a pity that it isn't.

Did not work well with the 'oakcakes' and became sweet and sickly.Followed by the main, My partner ordered the Vegetarian Fidget Pie, described as:"Cleverly replacing the gammon with a few secret ingredients yet retaining the signature apple and cheese tastes of the traditional fidget pie"Turns out the 'special ingredient is Walnuts, lots and lots of Walnuts, infact the pie was basically stuffed full with nothing but walnuts! with no mention of them on the menu.We ordered the cheeseboard for dessert and found it fairly average, but how can you go wrong with cheese and crackers?Absolutely ridiculous they can charge such prices for such low quality food!

We came here for Sunday lunch and I was very impressed by the lovely grounds of the hotel and the stunning views of the Shropshire countryside. I was therefore somewhat surprised when I discovered that the Sunday lunch is a carvery as this didn't seem to suit the setting. Due to a wedding being held the same day, the service was a bit disorganised, but we were seated quickly and there was only a slight wait before the carvery was available. The food itself was comparable to other carveries. Unfortunately, the room was uncomfortably hot for quite a while until the air conditioning was turned on, and we were seated underneath a speaker playing loud music. At £12.95 for two courses perhaps I am being over-critical but the standard of the meal just didn't seem to suit the lovely surroundings.

At 14:35 We were greeted by the "rules" - "check in from 3pm" not the best of starts especially when waiting in the adjacent Bar area the lights were off and despite 2 persons behind the counter they were more interested in talking than serving or guiding us to service. (A sign later found says ring for service) A bad start however was followed by a pleasant stay, although we were not inclined to avail ourselves of the facilities & went out for lunch/coffee. Our room was nice with an informative visitor guide which I would recommend that the Staff read the section on greetings & teamwork. First impressions etc... Breakfast was very good and nicely served by staff who were busy & efficient although not many smiles. Dinner on our second night was pleasant with a local menu included in our price. The wines were well priced and a good range - although we were surprised not to see an offering or two from the excellent local vineyard! All in all good value for money but the place could do so much more for itself than just promoting weddings and staff do not appear as happy as they could be. Local attractions (Roman City, Vineyard, St Andrews Church, Shrewsbury) were within easy reach and enjoyable. Would go back and try the afternoon tea which looked popular and would be a great way to greet folks!!

The breakfasts were very good (anything from cereals, yoghurt to the good old English fry up),and the evening meal Did not dissipointe I had home made chicken liver pate, rainbow trout, and lemon cheesecake all very tasty and well cooked. The resturant was very nicely done and the staff very helpful and polite. All in all I would return.

was not disappointed with the room and the situation of the hotel, stunning views and a pretty modern disabled room, only thing lacking was a shelf by the shower, for toiletries. Staff was all very competent. We were very disappointed with the food! we booked last minute, Included in our voucher was an evening meal, very, very, very limited choice,we had a lovely jug of iced water on table, but wasn't offered any wine or anything else.Could understand the concept of "taste of Shropshire Menu"but picked around the fidget pie, potato and veg and felt it had been microwaved and un-edible. Pate was not homemade and lemon tart was bought in frozen, i believe if you are going to have such a small selection on menu, it should all be done very well. would return to the hotel again, but will NOT eat there again.

we went for the 3 course carvery lunch & wished we hadn't bothered. The menu wasn't as advertised on the internet yet When we mentioned this it wasn't even acknowledged? The pate wasn't as described on the menu. When we choose our starters we were asked to choose dessert at the same time!! The beef was so tough that we couldn't cut it & all we were offered was a sharp knife., veg were tasteless & almost raw. We were served by 2 young girls distinct lack of any senior staff. Customer service non existent. We will not be returning this was no better than a 3.99 carvery.

We arrived early and were greeted by Chris he was polite and helpful he showed us through to the bar and returned in traditional costume to show us to the Roman room. This room is very intimate only seating 10 people fortunately we are not shy. He proceeded to explain the history of wroxeter and the surrounding area. Very interesting. Watered down wine was served and the food began to appear. The menu is based on the signs of the zodiac which is based on a diary entry from the Roman times. Some of these dishes were definitely an acquired taste. Lambs kidneys, chicken and poppy seed 'dormice', and chickpea purée. Next followed the mains which included lobster risotto, sardines and pork ribs in fermented fish sauce. All swerved with honey wine. There was a quiz on the history of the area which was a fun activity and then the deserts came they were tasty and light after all of the rich food. The experience was great and I would recommend it, you need to go with a very open mind with regards to some of the food. Chris made the whole experience for us.

They were very accommodating when we had to change our booking time and the starter of chicken liver pate in their Taste of Shropshire menu was actually so delicious. But the rest was pretty atrocious... The service was disorganised (they had 2 restaurants open so I think they had trouble communicating so we ended up waiting quite some time between courses). And the main course was horrendous - as my boyfriend said it was typical nursing home food. Trout was under seasoned but nice nonetheless with frozen undercooked tasteless veg that I couldn't even bring myself to eat. The sausage and mash was bland. The afternoon tea is good though, we've had that and been very happy with it. But don't bother with a Taste of Shropshire.

We were seated in the roman room. Not a piece of tinsel or a bauble in sight. Not even a subtle christmas tune. Our starters and sorbet cane out quickly but there was no butter offered for our rolls. We then had a 40 minute wait for our main which I had to ask twice for. When it came the potatoes and mash looked dried up. .The parsnips were hard and the meat fatty. I had a veggie option which was soggy and the accompanying sprouts were covered in ham! We had to ask for the milk for our luke warm coffee so overall not a good experience.

I have planned and reserved a family party here for 20th Dec however I've never eaten here so I felt the need to visit and try the menu. Also I needed to check wheelchair access for one of my guests. Everything is accessible so no mobility issues to worry about. We met Casey on reception who was very helpful and despite the fact that we hadn't reserved a table we were accommodated without fuss. The dining room is a very light conservatory room with beautifully presented tables,we were shown to a table next to the window and the very clean windows and window sills impressed me. The traditional food was served nice and hot on hot plates which is always appreciated and is also good practice. The two waitresses attending to us were very polite and smart. All in all a very pleasant Sunday roast experience, in a picturesque location. My only problem was that I couldn't quite eat up all of my dessert due to the hearty portion of apple crumble served.I'm now feeling reassured and looking forward to my party night.

Myself and my partner booked ourselves in for afternoon tea using a Groupon voucher costing £17 rather than the usual £36.First impressions were that this was something of a very tired hotel. We were asked to wait in the bar by the receptionist. As the bar was empty we encouraged to ring the door bell to attract service. The bar had a real retro 1980s feel with vintage clashing wallpaper and scuffed tables and chairs. Nice to see sometimes things can come back into fashion if you leave them long enough. We turned down the offer of sparkling wine and had apple juice instead. Which was the nicer concentrated stuff none of that freshly squeezed nonsense you get nowadays. We were invited into the restaurant minutes later which was a large white conversatory. It had a homely feel, an old people's home. The afternoon tea consisted of six quarters of 'petrol station sandwiches' on brown and white bread. Cheese and pickle, Turkey and cranberry and smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich filling if you're interested. Below on the stand we had a small scone each, a finger of fruit cake and a cream fairy cake. Once again keeping up the retro feel we were given whipped cream rather than any of that clotted cream on the scones. It was all washed down with tepid "funeral wake" coffee. My partner and I actually got the giggles halfway through at the sheer crapness of the place. For £17 it wasn't the worse experience ever, that said if anyone, and I can't believe they do, pays full whack you would be furious. The staff were pleasant and polite but as we got up and left with that smirk on our faces they knew like 99% of others we weren't likely to return.

I found on groupon a deal for a meal for two with bubbly at a really good price. I took my girlfriend last week to dinner at the wroxeter. The food was fab as they catered for vegetarians. The waitress was very good and very helpful. The three courses were very good and the bubbly was good too. For the price we would definitely recommend this venue for a romantic meal for two. The only criticism we would like to mention is that there was no background music.

I bought 2 Wowcher offers each for a three course meal with bubbly. We struggled to get dates that suited us before the offer expired but were pleased to get in for a Sunday evening. Good points first... The surroundings are lovely, the staff were pleasant and attentive, the restaurant is in a very nice conservatory. Now the less good points....When we arrived we were shown a menu which was very limited. TheA choice of soup of the day, Shropshire blue cheese and pear salad or chicken pate for starters. For mains there were two versions of fidget pie (meat or vegetarian) trout or sausage and mash. As we were there on a Sunday we were also offered roast beef and Yorkshire pudding (obviously surplus from Sunday Lunch) which was a welcome extra choice. The sweets were lemon tart with clotted cream, cheese and biscuits or ice cream. The bubbly was a sparkling perry that was quite pleasant but seemed a cheap option. Considering the three course menu showed a price of £25 per person ie £50 per couple I would be very surprised if the bubbly was worth £18.50 a bottle! The vouchers we bought were £29 per couple and were supposed to represent a discount on the normal price of £68.50 per couple. For the price we paid the meal was just about acceptable but there is no way I would gave been happy paying the full price for it....the menu choice was very poor, food was ok but nothing special, the bubbly was as cheap as possible. It is a shame that businesses do not use these voucher schemes as an opportunity to impress customers with a view to them returning again rather than pretending to offer something more expensive at a reduced price. Be honest and say it as it is ......this was never worth £68.50 per couple in the first place.

Stayed here for two nights. Staff were polite and helpful, rooms were clean, the four-poster bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was huge. Sadly our stay was only let down by the 'Taste of Shropshire' menu. The pate starter was very good, the Fidget Pie was not a pie but a sort of pastie. Furthermore it was not wrapped in short crust pastry (as stated in the menu) but puff pastry and the contents were no better than a Greggs pastie and I left half of it. This was followed by cheese and biscuits which was very unimaginative. This could have been a selection of Midlands and Welsh cheeses, however, apart from a piece of Shropshire, it was the bog standard Cheddar and Brie. Great shame!

Visited using a living social voucher. It was a lovely afternoon tea - proper china tea cups and saucers, three tier cake stand with scones, clotted cream, jam, cake, shortbread and your choicef sandwich filling on white or brown, crusts cut off.Service was pleasant and at just the right pace, once we had managed to find someone to talk to us at reception. Didn't notice there was a bell push on the desk to alert the staff. But very pleasant sitting in the light and airy conservatory, most enjoyable.

Had afternoon tea here. Arrived and the receptionist was rude. She was in the back room with colleagues and they saw us arrive, but no acknowledgement. Just ignored us for a minute or too. Not a good start. Went into the small room where afternoom tea was served and there were a few other tables of people. But there was no back ground music and we could all here eachother talking. There was no atmosphere and it was a bit embarrassing. We were glad when the other tables went so we could relax a bit more.Besides that the afternoon tea was nice. You have a choice of sandwich. The bread was fresh but I wasn't keen on the taste of the spread they used. However, it was still enjoyable. I would have liked a few more sandwiches as it was only three fingers each. There was a scone, fruit cake and a biscuit. Enjoyable. The tea was good and I liked the china cups. The young girl who served us here was very pleasant mind you. Wouldn't return as didnt like the layout of the hotel and the fact there was no atmosphere. Also the colour scheme - brown table clothes and brown chair covers. Awful pictures on the wall and bad wallpaper everywhere.

Seemed like a lovely place, surrounding area is beautiful. Staff were lovely however the food wasn't great, I could honestly cook the same at home, actually I could do better. The lemon tart was exactly the same as sainsbury ' s lemon tart, no difference at all. Went to the bathroom and it sounded like the pipes were gona burst when I flushed the tiolet, noise was quite bad! Nice place just very disappointed in the food. Unfortunately it won't make me return!
