The photographer has done well to make the rooms seem better than what it is. Spread over 3 flights of stairs. No living room space as sofa was made into bed. No sweeping brush. No washing up liquid. Broken beds. One towel. Shower knob broken for temperature so was hit and miss weather you'd be scolded or turned to ice. Staff were friendly enough. Beautiful scenery of the homeless beating each other up and sounds of the nature as drunks rave until 5am. This obviously can't be helped to the hotel but gives you an idea of what to expect! All in all, disappointed and wouldn't recommend. Oh and there was bugs in one bed....sleep safe!

Room was beautiful. Unfortunately revelries took place every night and continued until 4am. They did provide ear plugs. So if you are a party animal - great place to stay. Unfortunately nowhere to leave your suitcase when leaving the hotel, which spoilt my stay. Poor maintenance as well.

Picture this: you book a room based on lovely photos, only to find out the photographer deserves an Oscar for best special effects. The single beds are scattered across three floors like a scavenger hunt, and doubles? The mattresses are so bad they’d be rejected by a medieval dungeon. Even after copious amounts of hen do cocktails, the beds were so uncomfortable that none of us could sleep! The bathrooms were a hygiene horror show – no hand wash, soap, or gel, and the sinks were dirty! The furniture? Shabby chic minus the chic. The whole place screamed for a makeover, with a ceiling that seemed one sneeze away from dropping two of us onto the next floor. The walls had more dings than a used car, and the noise outside was like a 24-hour concert. Despite a 12-hour drinkathon, we expected to at least doze off, but nope! And the grand finale? Checking out. Handing in keys was a mission impossible since no one was there to take them. We ended up playing hide-and-seek with the keys and leaving a voicemail. Good luck to the next brave souls checking in!

Great service when checking in as allowed early check in and greeted in a very friendly and informative manner. Rooms were simple with comfortable beds, nice shower. No assistance next day at 10.30am as entry to bar and downstairs exit locked and problem with one of our group who has fear of heights and exit thru the external fire escape staircase proved almost impossible for the affected person who had to exit one step at a time in a seated position, I.e. on her bottom. Otherwise fine, a bit noisy at 4.00am when bars were chucking out. Good value as main chain hotels were very expensive (3 to 4 times what we paid) that weekend due to Let's Rock Leeds concert at Temple Newsam and Leeds 10k road race/fun run also. Overall a nice enough place to rest your head and clean up after a long day at Temple Newsam.

Guests access their room from the back of the building where construction is happening. Poor WiFi, water leaks from the toilet bowl to the floor, exhaust fan makes a monstrous sound. Off the main thoroughfare and as long as the pubs are quiet, it is fine.

Last minute trip to Leeds, we booked this hotel as we fancied something different than the standard travel lodge. The room very spacious and clean. Staff really friendly and always up for a chat in the bar downstairs, bar was good fun and became lively in the evenings. Perfectly placed for a weekend planned for drinking. Absolutely loved the whole weekend and will definitely be returning again as soon as possible, this time taking a few friends with us hopefully. If I had to pick something to be critical of it would be check out being by 10.30 am. Checking out on the Sunday the bar was very loud until 1 am, but that’s also to be expected from a bar in a city on a Saturday night. I loved pretty much every minute of my first stay in Leeds and absolutely can not wait to come back. I was sad to leave.

Booked a afternoon tea as part of Hotel stay.. The place was packed which was good.. To honest I thought the whole presentation was abit plain,I wasn't expecting bells and whistles but maybe abit more love and attention.. 2 peices of cake between us,the smallest scones ever plus mine was hard and the cream looked like it had melted slightly.. On a plus note the teapot cock tail was huge and we had 2 glasses each. It was however great value for money we paid £14.95 each.. Any other cocktail afternoon tea in the area is way over £20.

Great location across the road from Leeds Grand theatre. If you have tickets for the show, you even get discount. Good Gin selection. If you go to last night of performances at Grand, you will probably also bump into someone from the cast afterwards as well. Usually busy , but gets quieter just before performance! Highly recommended.

Took my mum for afternoon tea and what a pleasure. Staff were brilliant !! As soon as we arrived we were served with iced water and lemon and then coffee and tea whilst waiting for our delicious cocktails. So many sandwiches we couldn’t eat them all and then large slices of carrot cake, Victoria sponge and chocolate cake as well as scones with butter jam and cream . What we couldn’t eat was carefully wrapped and given to us. Would definitely recommend and many thanks to Simon and the lovely lady that served us.

Having experienced the afternoon tea earlier in the year, I decided to take a good friend and catch up. The Wrens itself is a lovely place with clean plastered walls and has the feeling of an old coach house, full of wood and decorated to a standard that puts you at ease. My first disappointment was the sandwiches that were merely cucumber - I expected tuna as well and I can only described one of the other sandwiches that was I think egg mayo...but had a horse raddish taste about it. My only disappointment with the cakes was that it was synthetic cream.... I dont recall synthetic cream on my last visit and I wouldnt have gone had it been. Therefore, a bit of a let down in those areas. Hope that they act upon their reviews as the Wrens itself and the rest of the tea and cocktail is a lovely experience

I my wife and friends booked 2 rooms at the WREN rather than the usual high street hotel chain when we went to Leeds to catch a show at the first direct arena and found a hidden diamond in this really unique hotel and its bar's. Friendly staff clean rooms with all the usual facilities with the added bonus of a really pleasant afternoon tea or an evening in one of the bars with a really great selection of gins, real ales, wines and my personal favourite cognac. The location is what holds it all together right in the middle for all the theatres, clubs ,bars and above all for the ladies SHOPS high street heaven right outside the doors of this gin palace no taxi needed no busses to catch perfect. ps if you need car parking just talk to the owners and they will be more than happy to sort out cheap overnight parking

It certainly isn't the Queens Hotel but nor did I pay the Queens Hotel prices. The rooms were clean and comfy and the staff and management friendly and helpful. The hotel was perfect for our concert at The First Direct arena. It was two or three minutes walk away from the hotel. We came back and had gins in 'The Gin Bar' which was stocked with every possible gin available, much to my partners delight. The afternoon tea the following day was very enjoyable and I must admit, all in all I was pleasantly surprised, especially after reading recent reviews. THe manager did say, there had been a significant investment in improving the place and all i can say that it was very good value for money and they must have indeed turned the place around. We bought a Groupon voucher for a Sparkling Afternoon Tea.When we arrived we were seated in a small room that probably sat about 12-15 people. There was no music playing, it was cold and quite unclean. When served our 'sparkles' it was flat as they had poured it from a bottle that was already open in the fridge (I understand this happens - but I'm guessing the bottle had been open a few days- there was not a sparkle in sight) so we sent it back and exchanged it.The afternoon tea itself was ok. Nothing special.I guess businesses use Groupon to drum up new customers that don't have prior knowledge of the establishments that they are visiting.I won't be going again.

We stayed here overnight to go to the Arena, the rooms were £80 per night which for these rooms is expensive. I realise it is in the centre of Leeds and has easy access to the arena but the rooms were badly in need of an upgrade and a good clean! They had done a surface clean but there were hairs in the bathroom and the shower curtain was very dirty and mouldy and needed replacing, at eighty pounds for 1 night they should reinvest some of that to spend a fiver on a cheap shower curtain! ! The bed was uncomfortable and the ability to sleep non existent due to the noise from the clubs that surround it. Again I realise this is city centre so you have to expect a certain level of noise but just how bad it is should be evident in the details when making a booking. The bar area of the Wrens is nice and more modern so okay for a drink but if you want a clean comfortable room and a decent night's sleep I would not recommend The Wrens.

On a lovely Thursday lunchtime last week we had booked The Wrens for afternoon tea (with Groupon voucher). This offer also had a tea pot of gin and tonic in our case. I have been here several times, and they always deal with my peculiar dietary requests without any problem. We had lovely sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and a selection of three cakes....yummy. We both were really fully by the time we had finished, all washed down with our gin and tonic - great.Jayne was the lady serving us that day, and she was really helpful and attentive.I have been here, as I said lots of times, and enjoyed it every time I have been. Easily found in the centre of Leeds, would recommend it! Not only that, but we got a voucher from The Wrens for 50% off their own afternoon tea - which makes it the same as a Groupon offer....so you don't need to wait for Groupon, give it a go.

From time to time we pop into The Wren after a show at The Grand. The furnishings have improved recently and it seems that the "local colour" in the form of the backroom clients (sort of Rockers & Goths) have moved on.Although they seem to be edging towards a Cocktail Bar vibe they had no tomato juice when we called. Not quite sure where they're heading or if they've got there yet.

Stayed here for two nights for my boyfriends graduation. The price was £90 for both nights. This is a rather cheap price for Leeds city centre and I cannot complain about the location of the hotel as it was about a ten minute walk from the trinity. The hotel was very average. The bedding was relatively clean compared to the rest of the room. The room was very large with a tv and lots of plug sockets, although one of the bedside lights didn't work. The decor is very old fashioned and worn, and the single glazed Windows didn't keep much noise out. When we opened the window to let some fresh air in we where encompassed by the smell of the multiple fast food outlets that are situated outside. The bathroom was clean-ish although the shower was stained badly. The bed was very squeaky too. Overall the hotel is alright for a cheap night in Leeds. The bar downstairs in the hotel was very expensive, a house gin and tonic with an archers and lemonade (both doubles) cost £16!!

Jayne, who has served us every time is a wonderfully warm and friendly person who goes out of her way to ensure you have a great time. She brings iced water to start with - very refreshing. Then comes your cocktail followed by the afternoon tea proper! The sandwiches are many and varied - all with the crusts trimmed off. There are fruited scones and plenty of butter, jam and cream to put on them. Then come the selection of cakes - all very tempting and tasty. You also get tea of your choice - we chose a fruit infusion and it was excellent. A great afternoon experience and you also get a card with 50% off your next afternoon tea. Superb!

Went for a drink before going to a show at Leeds Grand Theatre. External decor looks good - interior is fine. Furnishings are very tired - new upholstery would make a difference. Waited a long time to be served - we were in the side bar and the main bar was busy. It was noticed that we were waiting and the lady serving asked the barman to serve us next. He did serve us next, but he was very slow arranging glasses and replenishing bottles in the fridge before taking our drinks order. On taking our order he did not once smile or speak to us. It seemed an effort for him to tell us the cost of the drinks. His attitude was not good. We finished our drinks and went to the theatre bar instead of staying for another drink at the Wrens. This pub is very handy for the Grand Theatre and the food served to other customers looked and smelled lovely. Due the the poor attitude of this barman we will not return and will definitely find another bar/ pub for our pre show drinks.

So we went to this place just for some drinks prior to a show we were seeing and this was the worst experience I have had here. At first, my mum was in need of something to eat (i.e. some crisps) and all they had were just jelly beans and some nuts which are not good for filling a gap. So that got things off to a great start. Then, as we went to get our second drinks I asked, in which prior to that I had a normal coke with no scent of alcohol in it, for a normal lemon and lime and the staff had the cheek to ask me for ID in which I had forgotten to bring some and they told us that they would refuse serve me a normal lemon and lime (with no alcohol in it). I have never felt so annoyed at a place like this as it is cheeky as hell and the reality is that they have no signing saying that will ID people if they look under the age of 25 or that it is an Over 25 pub only. We will never be coming here again as I'd rather go somewhere else where I'm not going to be ID'd for a normal drink.

I visited here with a friend after receiving a groupon code for Christmas. When I phoned to book I had to leave a message on the answering machine, but a staff member got back to me a few hours later. When we first saw the hotel from the outside it wasn't quite what we expected, but the inside is lovely, fresh and clean. It's quite small inside and the tearoom area only has a few tables. We had a choice of cocktails that came with the package or you could opt to pay an extra £3 for some different ones. The teapot gave you nearly two small tea cups of cocktail each.We were also given a jug of water which had fresh fruit floating in it.The sandwiches were plentiful, fresh and tasty. Brie and cranberry, cheese savoury, Turkey and stuffing, beef etc. They were served on a two tier stand. The cakes came out on a slate. We got three slices of cake, (carrot, chocolate and Victoria sponge) and two scones. The scones came with butter, jam and cream. The cream was very light in texture and was mixed with vanilla. It went very well with the scones. The cakes were delicious and fresh. We were then offered tea or coffee as part of the package. We ordered tea and it came with a generous teapot. The tea was loose leaf and we were given a strainer to use to pour the tea.We managed to eat everything but we were both very full. Having seen previous reviews we didn't eat for several hours before going. The waitress was really nice and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. However you could see she was rushed off her feet but it didn't stop her from smiling. As we left we were given a voucher for half price next time. I checked the prices on the website. Standard afternoon tea is £12.95 for one person, with a range of alcoholic versions up to £18.95 for the teapot cocktail. Using the voucher and getting them half price is a definite bargain so we will be back!

The bar staff have an excellent knowledge of the gins and give great recommendations, the choice of find is vast, nearly too many to choose from but not quite . The deal I bought also provided a cheese board, plenty of varied cheeses and accompaniments. The deal was fabulous value for money and if you are a gin love ethos bar is well worth a visit.

Although it was only £60 for the night you do not expect to see a plug with the wires exposed and very loose and there were some disgusting stains on both the bed bases . I informed the receptionist who had a look and I asked to be moved. She told me she would "text" the owner and get back to me. We waited nearly 2 hours and had to get ready to go out - she never got back to me!!. The duvets were thinner than thin and so were the pillows. We did not get a shower as the tiles needed a good clean. No spoon with the tea and coffee and only 2 tea bags were left. Very very poor and it seems as if they don't know what cleaning is. The receptionist didn't even have the guts to look at me as we went out for the evening - she just turned the other way when she saw me.

Like Suin bought this deal to try but with my hubby before Christmas could not get it booked, so we went last Friday 8/1/16. Two other tables in use a three and another couple. We were promptly brought sandwiches basic but fresh,we were then served our glass of fizz and the cakes followed quickly. Would rather they left out the butter and used better quality cream, scones a bit on the dry side but cake selection was very moist and tasted good. One cup of weak coffee and a cup of tea to round off the deal. Usually have afternoon tea's with my two sister's and my niece, would not take them here unless they made a bit more effort with the look of the room,if you are selling afternoon tea's you should at least make the room look a bit dressed up.But will end by saying it was only £17 worth it at that, but not had we paid full price £34.

I treated my daughter to the Afternoon Tea Groupon Voucher. We wanted to use it before Christmas but to get a reservation here proved very difficult - so book in as soon as you get your voucher! We went on a Monday afternoon after Christmas. The Hotel itself is nice and we were sat in a room with 4 tables - with one other couple having Afternoon tea.We were served promptly by a lovely lady (who seemed very stressed serving the food and answering the phones, which were constantly ringing)...but she looked after us well. We got a basic variety of sandwiches (on cheap white break) and 3 cakes between 2 and 2 dry scones. Whipped cream, jam and butter We had 2 pots of tea and it was nice but nothing special or good value.Everyone gets a 50% off voucher for their next visit....it seems they are going down the Groupon route as the offer is on again but the extra drinks were very expensive £6 for a small bottle of prosecco or £26 for a full bottle).Nothing fantastic and with so many other people offering similar packages we will not return or recommend.

Stayed here Tuesday night with my mother after visiting Leeds Arena. First impressions were good after entering through the bar area. It was lovely with its little rooms dotted about. The young lady who greeted us was very pleasant and gave us all the information we needed regarding our stay. However, the room, though suitable was grubby. The toilet and sink hadn't been cleaned. The headboard on my bed had been ripped off and as for the mattress! We could feel the springs poking through on both beds and they made a racket every time you moved to try get comfy. There was no heating on (mid December ) though we did find a heater hid under a table behind a chair in the morning. Bit late then. Single glazed windows didn't help. Checking out was easy, just post your keys and exit the backdoor. No opportunity to relay our experience there. Or was that the point of the 'post and go' rule? Needless to say we won't be staying again!

Had afternoon tea on the voucher deal, this it was £17 for two people and is think that was a fair price.Nice fresh sandwiches, and you did get a good amount. Scones were a little soft and flaky and small but were nice.Cakes were fresh and you got three large slabs to share but personally I found the selection to be a little weird. Chocolate and coffee and some lemon cake with black seeds in it. Maybe I was expecting something a little more traditional.Nice large glasses of prosecco too.The place is very clean but small. Staff were professional but there's so many places offering afternoon tea now I would prefer to give somewhere else a try first before returning.

A friend and I took the opportunity to have afternoon tea at the Wrens Hotel, Leeds using a voucher offering the tea for half price. We went last Friday (16/10/15) and were pleasantly surprised. There was a slight smell of new paint when we arrived, rather early for our 2pm slot, but nothing overpowering. We were shown to a small side room with three tables all with a 'reserved, ticket on and told to sit wherever we wanted.Within minutes the bubbly with a carafe of iced water arrived quickly followed by an array of various sandwiches. Not long after a board was brought in containing 3 slices of different cakes, 4 fruit scones, 2 pots of jam, 2 pots of cream and a pot of clotted cream. This was all washed down with a pot of tea. Staff were polite, available but unobtrusive. We will be doing the whole thing again in the not too distant future.

A friend and I had a wonderful afternoon tea and a special in-house cocktail at this hotel on Tuesday 18 August 2015. We were made to feel very welcome and the young man (I think his name was Tom) was very pleasant and helpful. Our tea consisted of plenty of various freshly made sandwiches, scones and lots of delicious/scrumptious home-made cakes. We had extra tea which was offered and came away with the recipe for this wonderful cocktail. Strongly recommend!!!

Recently had afternoon tea here as a birthday treat using a groupon voucher. Booked via email and all details/dietary requirements confirmed so very easy to do. Arrived half hour before time booked (I got mixed up with times!) wasnt a problem and taken straight through to one of the cozy little rooms at the back. Offered either a glass of prosecco or a grey gooze cocktail. Food and drinks were quickly bought out and well presented. Good selection of sandwiches, more than we could manage! Scones were good and fresh, served with a very nice vanilla cream. Good mix of cakes and very good portions! Couldnt manage them at the time but the very nice waitress was more than happy to wrap everything up to take home. Service was excellent, the young waitress Emily was very attentive without being too intrusive. Very helpful and friendly so special thanks to her! She also gave us a card with 50% off next visit so will definitely be back!

Popped in with my girlfriend for a quick meal as it's close to my work. Empty pub, dirty tables.Took almost 30 minutes to get 2 disappointing looking pies which we decided weren't worth the wait. We mentioned the wait and the response was "well the kitchen are busy preparing food for tomorrow". We decided to complain to the bar manager and leave. His response to the delay was "I've timed it and it's actually 26 minutes, the pies take 14 minutes anyway". He then walked off and went on the phone to the owner. After the call he slowly and grudgingly refunded the food. Not our drinks though. Having barely touched my beer and my girlfriend's Pepsi being flat we asked for a refund for them. He said he'd have to check with the owner again who apparently said "they should have finished their drinks during the wait for food". He then tasted the Pepsi, admitted the gas might have gone but still refused the refund.Avoid at all costs!

Enjoyed a meal here a while ago so when a cocktail afternoon tea came up on Groupon I decided to take advantage. I rang 5 times between 9am and 11.30am each time met with an ansaphone saying leave a message and we will get back to you. I did this on fifth attempt but 4 hours later nobody had bothered to ring back and ansaphone was still on. Appalling non service. Don't bother trying as they obviously don't want any further business. Would anybody care to contact me regarding this situation with an explanation? So disappointed.

Having got a voucher for afternoon tea here, with it being more like a bar I wasn't expecting much but I was wrong! The afternoon tea was wonderful, the sandwiches were crust less and had a brilliant variety, when booking it the voucher had stated a cocktail each for all 4 of us but we got teapots of incredible cocktails which in total gave us roughly 2 drinks each as well as being given tea and coffee. We also had a cake board which had a fantastic selection of cake slices rather than individual cakes, all the cakes tasted really good but there was a nut flapjack/oatbar which was delicious. They also told us at the start we could take home the cake we didn't eat which they packed up for us as well as giving us a 50% off voucher for next time. Excellent staff and fantastic food, will definitely be back.

I returned to the Wrens Hotel after first visitng on a Groupon/Living Social deal for 2 about 6 months ago. This time I came in a party of 4 without the deals, as we were given a discount to return from the previous visit, which I thought was a nice touch. We asked for the same deal - afternoon tea which consisted of a glass of proscco each with crust less sandwiches, which included, egg mayonnaise, Turkey and stuffing, ham salad, cheese mix, cucumber sandwiches etc. even though there were four of us, we still left about 6 sandwiches. The cakes arrived. Oh my what an arrangement to choose from. Victoria sponge, carrot cake, lemon and coconut cake, rocky road, mRshmallow cake, and of course the traditional cream tea. All served with a traditional pot of tea with a strainer. The service from the young man Luke and young lady Emma were second to none, just superb, not too intrusive but couldn't do enough for us. A lovely old pub inside. It doesn't look inviting from the outside but it's a lovely old pub with a few little rooms. Can't wait to visit again. Thank you for making our get together a special one. AGAIN!

After reading reviews I wasn't sure what to expect and have to admit to being pleasantly surprised. Staff were extremely polite, approachable, friendly and helpful. Cocktails really nice, food better than I expected but sandwiches could have been fresher. Unfortunately the whole experience was spoilt by a middle age woman she was seated right at the side of me with her back to me. She constantly ran her hands through her hair and shook her head. The room is so small that so close was her proximity to me I could see particles falling from her hair onto our table. I did my want to cause a scene so moved our food to the other side of the table in hope her one of her 4 colleagues might see and advise her. No such luck. I think they need to accommodate fewer guests at a sitting in order to prevent more selfish self obsessed people causing distress to others.

Me and my partner went for the wine and cheese night for £10 from group on. We were welcomed and seated with another couple along with Emily the host. She was lovely and knew everything about the wine and cheese and made us feel so welcome, not pushy at all. I can see some reviews aren't the best regarding rooms and some people say it's not the most glam place for afternoon tea.. It's a renovated pub in a busy part of Leeds so expectations shouldn't be the same line as the Ritz. Lovely place and staff and a lovely evening - definately worth a try :)

My friend booked for me and her to enjoy an afternoon tea here for my birthday. We got a deal through Wowcher which was around £15 for the two of us. For this we got numerous sandwiches, several slices of cake along with other biscuits and a scone with cream and jam each. Their was no way we could eat everything but we tried our best and were allowed to take home the left overs, which my partner was happy about. The service was good, we were late for our booking but they never complained and we were informed on leaving of other packages they offer such as wine tasting evenings along with a code to receive a discount if we make another booking, which I intend to do.

I had an amazing Groupon afternoon tea at the Wrens today. Like many people I usually only do a Tripadvisor review when I have had a negative experience. Today was so good that I felt impelled to write this review. I was surprised to see the negative reviews on here. When making the booking the staff were very helpful and even asked whether we had any specific dietary requirements. On arrival the staff were pleasant and welcoming. The venue was fresh and clean. We were given a cocktail menu for our teapot cocktail. We were promptly served our sandwiches - fresh (not dry as stated in previous reviews), plentiful and an excellent selection. The cake selection was fantastic - 2 scones, 3 large slices of cake and 3 smaller pieces of rocky road, flapjack and caramel slice. I don't think the scones could have been fresher and were served with plenty of butter, clotted cream and strawberry jam. I've read in previous reviews that people were disappointed that there was only one kind of each cake. You really can't have it all. If you want two slices of each then that would reduce the variety which, in my opinion, would be a shame. We split everything in half and that was plenty. There were two other groups having afternoon tea and, like us, they were unable to eat everything. What was the staff's response to us not being able to eat it all? They offered to wrap it up for us to take home and the remaining cakes looked so good that we took them up on the offer!!! I truly cannot fault our afternoon tea today, it was brilliant. Thank you Wrens!!

4 of us thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea experience this Saturday. There was a great choice of cocktails and the sandwiches and cakes were all fresh and tasty. What's more they were also varied and plentiful. Even better though was the service, from the friendly welcome from the bar attendant to the attentiveness of the waitress. This was an experience very much at odds with the negative reviews from several weeks ago. The exterior is not particularly appealing but the service is second to none and I would not hesitate to go to The Wrens again.

My mum and I booked in for an Afternoon tea at thee weekend. It is clearly popular as it took us weeks to book a weekend slot. The bar / restaurant was very quiet on arrival, so we were seen to our seats straight away. We were given a large choice of cocktails (as this was their cocktail afternoon tea), which arrived in a beautiful Hendricks tea pot with matching cup and saucer. The afternoon tea itself was so generous, and we ended up taking some of the cakes home. They accommodated our dietary requirements and everything was so tasty.By the team we left, the bar was very popular, and the other food looked nice too. I liked the mix of this place....Afternoon tea and real ale with pies...great for a couple!!I'd definitely return here for a meal or just a social drink!

Visited on a Monday lunch with a Groupon deal for TeaPot cocktail afternoon tea. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a pre-laid table, given the extensive cocktail menu list and left to decide. We ordered the Pimms (as it was a nice sunny day!). Our afternoon tea was brought swifty - a huge mix of sandwich triangles along with scones with butter, jam and cream, ginger cake, victoria sponge, chocolate cake AND millionaires shortbread, brownie and a toffee tiffin! All very tasty - the victoria sponge was beautifully light. My only negative was the cream was more of an "artificial" vanilla cream rather than clotted - but nonetheless it was tasty. I was also surprised to see that the cakes were bought in - but they tasted lovely! The decor and feel of the place was lovely and the lady serving was great, checked we were ok and if we needed anything else or tea or coffee. she also offered to wrap anything we couldn't manage! They don''t serve "food" as such, but specialise in snacks and pies - which we will certainly be back to try. This, along with range of beers and lagers - will encourage our next visit to be with OH's.The highlight for me was the cocktail tea pot! Filled to brim with perfectly mixed Pimms along with strawberries, cucumber, lemon and mint! It was devine and such a quirky twist to an afternoon tea!Well worth a try!

Hmmmm....okay I'm writing this review based on our experience of afternoon tea only, not the hotel itself. As a top contributor on TA I feel it's only fair to write honestly.I purchased a groupon voucher for an afternoon tea with a teapot cocktail and after cancelling our original booking due to unforeseen circumstances I was able to make a new booking, however the staff seemed to be rather stressed out managing the diary with requests for me call back on certain dates etc. Not a great start, but I remained hopeful. On the arrival it appeared the tiny bar area was very busy and two stressed looking staff members who failed to acknowledge our arrival battled needlessly with orders. We waited patiently, ordered some drinks and were told to locate our table 'in the lounge' which we thankfully found okay at the other side of the bar. The lounge looked shabby and very much like the pub it was/is rather than a tea lounge if I'm honest. Our teapot cocktail was chosen from a scruffy, stained printed list and took forever to arrive. We were not offered tea or coffee at all and were forced to request this even though it came as standard. Disappointingly we were served a single cup of tea and single cup of coffee. No refills allowed it seems! The food was fine. Sandwiches stingy on the fillings but the bread was nice and fresh at least. Cake lovely, scones nice but bought in. Nice touch with vanilla in the cream too. Would we return? Not for afternoon tea, no however we'd probably pop in for a quick drink if we were to pass. The issue for me is that this is clearly afternoon tea served in a bit of a run. D I an pub. Personally, I'd prefer a much finer experience for high tea so I'll stick with superior hotels and vintage tea lounges in future.

Traditional British breakfast at an affordable price. Bacon was great. Everything else is just as what you would expect. Store prefers to take cash.
