Great local pub with a down to earth welcome from all staff. Jeff is the owner who runs a lovely pub, food is always hot and delicious. All in all a great local charismatic pub. Great choice of beers.

Can not fault the Sunday Carvery here, absolutely beautiful! Have also eaten other times here and the portions are massive! Function room you can hire out the back with a skittles alley. Pool table in the bar and you can just ask for a pack of cards

This place is in need of a serious refurbishment, the table and chairs are like canteen furniture. The toilets arent clean and the whole place is really dated. We only had a drink in here but didnt dare to eat!

A fine selection of four roast meats, turkey, lamb. beef and pork with all the usual roast spuds and veg. Gravy was excellent. Vg puddings too and all served hot. The place itself looks tired and could do with a makeover but there again value for money is excellent. Beats a Toby type place any day. I hate Arkells beer but Nags Head from Donnington. a pale ale was available and more than acceptable. Well a worth a punt at these prices .

I have been to this pub on many occasions and I can honestly say that it is absolutely dire. The only customers, it seems, are regulars, the barman is incredibly rude and grumpy and last but not least...any soft drink (coke/ lemonade/ tonic etc) comes from a value 2 litre bottle!! I no longer visit here because I realised that I never wanted to drink when I went in there. The barman seems to hate new customers anyway so I doubt he will notice. Truly shocking!

A group of us visited last week during the lunchtime to play skittles and have a meal. We enjoyed our visit and the food was very good. My main course - Mushroom Omelette (freshly cooked and a generous portion) plus salad was very nice. Although I didn't have chips with my meal, others did and they looked very substantial and a lovely golden brown colour. For dessert I had a cherry crumble which had been home baked with real cherries and again served with a very good portion of ice cream! The landlady & landlord (?chef) were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. -

I'm a local to the Woodshaw, and have been a regular patron for over 16 years. As has been said (Dave B), the landlord has to maintain the interior of the pub and has been doing a lot of work recently despite a minimal income. Arkell's have recently done up the exterior (and that was well overdue!). Personally, I think it's looking better now than it has for a long time. I have recommended friends to the Woody for meals, you can't get better food at the prices Jeff charges, I've never had a bad meal. It's so nearby, and beats having to cook Sunday Lunch every week - I can't buy the meat myself for the price I pay for 2 meals! Look past any shabbiness there might be, no-one can please everyone with their choice of interior decor, and give it a go.

Being a regular of the Woodshaw I feel obligated to defend it. It's not a managed pub, it's a tenancy hence the brewery do not maintain it, the landlord does! Trading for all pubs is very tough as your all aware! Many pubs closing on a weekly basis, just surviving is a battle in itself! I know every penny Jeff makes goes back into the pub. The plan all along was to replace the carpet when finances permitted, this has now been done and has made a huge difference! At the time of posting the dinning room is being re-carpeted. Further work is also lined up in the coming weeks. There are posts on the web page from very satisfied customers, unfortunately a couple of people had a disappointing experience, I'm sure if they return in the next few months they will appreciate the huge effort that's been made! It's a proper local with a great sense of community, regulars who are very loyal and supportive.

The misery barman and sticky carpets add to the ambience and whilst it's not an aesthetically pleasing pub it is convenient, pleasant atmosphere and plenty of parking. The Xmas Quiz is also great fun and well attended. Highly recommend

We have a breakfast there quite regular. Excellent value for money, 3, 4 and 6 pound breakfast, small, med and large. All with coffee, tea or a soft drink. Jeff does a very good breakfast. We have lunch there as well in the past, which is still of a very high standard. We highly recommend the food here. The only downfall is that the pub is not maintained by Arkells. It looks scruffy in a lot of areas. Jeff does his best with maintenance, but Arkell does not do much ( if anything ) to support him and the pub.

I used to drink here years ago but moved off the estate. Being back in the area I thought I'd pop in for a swift pint and to re minis about the good old days. I don't think I've ever been so shocked at the transformation of a local boozer. It used to be a typical estate pub, comfortable, not that modern but a friendly atmosphere. Now it has a grumpy barman who didn't seem that interested, a tiled floor, just like you'd get in the bathroom and chairs and tables you'd find in a greasy spoon cafe. What a real shame and what an awful place....

I chose to meet a friend at thus pub as it was local and convenient - worst mistake ever! We walked in and the smell of BO was vile. There were 3 people in the pub on a friday night and one of those included the bar man. The coke came from a bottle and was flat. No food was available and the service was awful. We felt so sick we left after 15 mins and went somewhere else. It reminded me of a back street pub - don't know how the owners are making a profit from it!

The speaker in the drive through needs to be fixed, you have to shout your order, not good if you have a sleeping baby in the back and want a quiet coffee

Fantastic service & food, we eat here regularly & travel 26 miles to get here, because it's the best dessert restaurant we've ever been to 😋🥞🍨

I think when you opt to eat breakfast in a supermarket cafe there aren’t expectations of gourmet food. However I think there are standards you should be able to expect and Morrisons spectacularly fell short of even the lowest expectations! My breakfast was just over £11 as I added a couple of extras. Mushrooms were tinned and cold. Tomatoes were chopped tinned and cold. Bacon was lightly warmed in the microwave and came complete with flabby undercooked rind and was covered in white gunk. Sausage was deep fried, and of the quality that even the dog would turn its nose up at. Hash browns were overdone but passable. Toast came cold and chewy with a nice slab of hard butter on top! All this came with a cappuccino that tasted like the machine needed a good clean and service lacking anything close to a smile! I won’t be returning to experience their vile offerings again!

Wedding coordinators both amazing. Prompt and professional support and advice. Food was better than some Michelin restaurants I’ve been to. Five star quality; amazing service and would highly recommend. Venue went over and above what was necessary from free coffee to supporting external vendors and accommodation
