First time eating out since lockdown started. The restaurant was full, with a good, friendly atmosphere. The service and food were excellent. The two of us had steaks of different variety, and both were extremely tender and tasty. I had the house wine by the glass and it was very drinkable. I would thoroughly recommend this pub - not expensive either.

Our first visit to the Woodman, inspired by Eat Out to Help out. We had high expectations and were not disappointed in any way. We visited on a Tuesday night and the pub was busy, with diners obviously enjoying themselves which immediately created a good atmosphere. This was pub dining at its bestThe service was good, the food was excellent the ambience relaxed and unhurried We will not need the Eat out incentive to visit on future visits, and can recommend the Woodman to any one who enjoys good pubs with food.

The Woodman was a lovely pub 20 mins walk from the campsite we were staying at. We walked there on day 1 for a drink and the owner kindly agreed to let us watch the FA cup final there as we had a meal and drinks the following day. We sat outside for our food which was a range from the kids' menus to lamb shank, fishcake and fab chunky chips - all delicious. The set up around Covid felt safe and well thought through. Really wish the owners all the very best in their business - it's the perfect place to stop for a drink or meal if you find yourself in this beautiful part of the country.

The food has been excellent when we’ve been here previously but this time it was disappointing. There were four of us - one steak was tough and gristly, the spinach and ricotta lasagne was somewhat bland, one of our party asked for lamb chop and received lamb shank - perhaps the waitress misheard? For dessert, three of us had crème brûlée but it had the wrong consistency, more like a blancmange and we wondered if it was made with a mix rather than cream and eggs. Not very nice. The ice cream that the remaining person in our party had was delicious.

We drove out to The Woodman as we fancied something a bit special and have always liked the atmosphere here. It was fairly quiet when we arrived (7 on a Saturday) but got busy soon after.Drink orders were taken immediately. She tried to take food orders very quickly after - we asked for more time. There was something wrong with the beer - checked by someone else and we had a shandy (not the local ale we'd ordered) - no problem. My husband ordered "The Special" = £15 Rump (not great), sauce and chips but were sad to find that it came as just as that with not a tomato or salad-dressing in sight. There are other reviews mentioning this and people are directed to the small print on the menu - the problem is that our waitress was very quick in taking our order - not very communicative (or smily!) and did not ask whether we'd like to order any side salads etc. It would be thoughtful to highlight the issue to customers! I had the "confit of duck in red wine jus" that I've had before but sadly skin was soggy (think it crispy before?) and the sauce was not tasty as I remember it - more like a gravyAs soon as we'd finished the waitress wanted to take our pudding order - again asked for a gap. We literally could have been in and out within 45 minutes! We ended up feeling rushed, the meal was not up to the usual standard (perhaps an off-night) and it lacked the relaxed experience we've always enjoyed here. Also wonder why there seemed to be a "steak night special" on a Saturday night as they are usually mid-week round here? Perhaps to bring in numbers?Wont be dashing back in a hurry - shame

Food and Sunday lunch has always been very good here, however today the meat was thin and bland, Yorkshire puddings tasteless and the roast potatoes clearly reheated - hard and dehydrated. If this was Wetherspoon’s at £8 then it would be OK, but £15 - not OK. New chef or perhaps they are not bothered anymore, Won’t go back again for Sunday Lunch or indeed any daily lunch or steak nights, Not worth the risk at this price. The menu was ok if a little pricey. The service was friendly, not rushed and helpful. (But might have been less so if there had been more diners) The food was niceley presented, well cooked and appetising. What really spoiled the occasion was that mayonnaise requested was served in a plastiic manufacturer's bottle and appeared on the bill at a charge of £2. Condiments are in our experience included in the meal price and mayonnaise is served in a dish. Halloumi cheese advertised with salad (garnish?) was served with a full side salad, not consciously ordered, at a charge of £3.50. So when the card payment machine requested a tip we declined as we felt we had overcharged.

If you are not local to the area you would never know this pub existed. Located in a tiny village in Oxford this pub has been extended significantly since it started as a hostelry back in the 1600's. Ordered the fish and chips expecting crispy battered fish, however the fish batter was very pale yellow and not at all crispy, it was very soft in fact it was probably microwaved. We were a group of almost 50 and had booked the function room for dinner. It was laid out in 3 tables and easily held our party with no lack of space.

We were looking for nice place to take visitors for lunch and being new to the area we were checking places out on here. This place deserves its rating and maybe a bit more. It was not a busy lunchtime so I can’t speak to how well they deal with a full restaurant, but when they have to time to work as they wish, it is a wonderful dining experience.

The Woodman Inn was not hard to locate and a short drive from the A420 close to Faringdon. Sunday lunch set menu reasonably priced with the choice of main course £14, 2 courses for £18 or 3 courses for £22. We were there as a group of 6 and had a nice spacious table with a nice level of bustle all around. Service was a little slow perhaps due to the number of people around being served. Highlight of the meal were the Sunday roasts. We tried the pork, beef & chicken plates at our table which came as generous portions with plenty of gravy, Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes & vegetables. The range of the desserts on offer were perfectly acceptable & well presented but did taste as though shop bought so didn’t have the wow factor. Worth a visit for a traditional Sunday lunch.

I went for a short notice dinner with my girlfriend and had a superb time. The staff were very welcoming and attentive but not overly so. The menu is excellent and cater for all tastes without being too extensive so as to make a decision impossible. There was also a wonderful selection of specials. The card for the Woodman Inn describes itself as a Pub & Dining and I would absolutely agree with this. It was a welcoming pub with a quality of dining fair exceeding that of most pubs but without the formality of a restaurant and I'd strongly recommend a visit.

Had family visiting from the US and struck gold when I made a last minute dinner booking for 6 of us on Boxing Day eve. Everything a visitor could ask for in a truly original English pub....real ales , open fire , great food and attentive service ( Luke )

Staying in Little Coxwell over the Christmas holidays, had read good reviews about this restaurant so decided to try for lunch. Did not disappoint, everything was excellent, real home cooked food. I had the pork loin, which I have to say was on par with any top restaurant. Venison was chosen also excellent and 2 steak and ale pies. Absolutely huge and so much meat, even the boys had trouble finishing it.

The quality of food at Christmas party lunches is often disappointing but not in this case. Besides our office party there was another one of 18 people dining at the same time and in the circumstances it could be expected that quality of food might be not too good. However in our case all dishes were excellent and all portions were large. The duck liver parfait, and avocado and asparagus tarte starers were excellent, the turkey and the pork main courses were well cooked and the vegetables were done to perfection. The deserted were also of a high standard. If they can manage this quality on mass cooked Xmas lunches I am looking forward to going back and trying their diner menu in the new year.

The woodman was the first of a new series of mother and son eating experiences in local hostelries. This one was with the handsome son and we sat in a welcoming restaurant near a warm open fire and were treated to a fine meal and friendly service. We understand that new management took over some months ago, and we can vouch for the improvement in food and service.Recommended

4 of us ate here tonight for my sons 18th birthday, 3 fillet steaks, and one venison. Every one was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. One of the best steaks I've eaten. We will definitely be back, thank you.

We ate there as a party of 4 and couldn't fault it. The menu isn't huge but to be honest I'd rather there were just a few dishes that are done really well than a massive amount of choice. I had the venison which was gorgeous and the other 3 had the fillet steak which they said was the best they'd had for a long time. Dessert was lovely and although they ran out of the sticky toffee pudding the waiter offered an alternative which wasn't on the menu so one of us had that (gingerbread pudding, also lovely). It's not a cheap place to eat but the food is well worth the money - good size portions as well. Will definitely be going back as soon as possible. Although it's a pub the atmosphere/feeling is definitely more restaurant like.

If you're looking for a cozy, traditional pub, real fire and delicious food The Woodman is an excellent choice. We decided to try an evening visit to celebrate a birthday and had a lovely evening - it's cozy and intimate for two but also a good location for a family or friends group.Service comes directly from the owners and is efficient without being intrusive. We chose steak and slow roasted pork dish which were both lovely. And the pudding choices were very tasty. My husband was offered a glass of prosecco when the chef was talking to us and discovered it was my husbands birthday (I had to turn mine down as I was driving). We'll definitely be returning to explore the rest of the menu!

Having visited for drinks earlier in the year under the new management, we always intended to try the food.Oh my days ... we were not disappointed. The ribeye steak was cooked to perfection and the veal was succulent. Both full of flavour. Our sticky toffee & apple crumble with vanilla custard puddings was also perfect. Each having an Irish coffee finished off a perfect meal. This establishment concentrates of quality over quantity. Not forgetting the extensive range of good quality wines available and one of the best ales. The experience left us wanting to revisit.
