The Winged Ox in Glasgow City

Having visited here several times before I was looking forward to great food and service but sadly not the case. Had a booking for Oct 20th at 6.45 for 2 people , staff were clearly stressed out by how packed the venue was with a wedding on and it being match day and a sold out concert just down the street. We were told " we had no idea it was going to be like this" as they struggled to find us a table. These are all marked calender events and should have had staff to support this busy time surely. Despite being booked we were left for 30 mins without having a drinks order taken, then people who hadn't booked walk in and took chairs from our table and asked us to lift our table and move it so they could join their friends at the next table - sectarian football chants started off them and nothing was said/done. Finally a member of staff came but only to take their order and ignored us. At this point we got up and left. Meanwhile front of house staff are still letting everyone in and saying " there might be some space outside". This is supposed to be a nice place to eat I thought but instead had drunken IRA chants in our ears, felt forgotten about and left hungry. Emailed the manager about this and the response was a bit lacking with " I'll speak to the staff and hope you come back ". Most establishments in the area hire door staff just for match days to avoid this and its bookings only - it's a shame St Luke's didn't follow with this. Won't go back

We have visited Saint Luke’s several times over the past few years and have often chose this place to celebrate birthdays etc. Previously we have found the food to be fantastic and the staff very friendly, attentive and kind. Sadly last night we left extremely disappointed, both with the food and service. I think between us all we have tried majority of the menu, and last night the food was just not up to the usual high standard. Both the macaroni and chilli were tasteless and very dried out, as was the ‘Indian curry’. The quality of the chicken was very poor and the ‘cajun fries’ were just chips with a tub of Cajun poured on the top as an afterthought. The burger however was still great. The biggest disappointment was the service and attitude of the staff. After an incident with another customer, the manager was extremely curt in his approach to dealing with this issue, making all in our party feel extremely uncomfortable. This was further exacerbated by another server who was clearly disgruntled by the fact we added no further tip to our bill which already included a 12.5% service charge. Overall, really disappointed after the many years of hospitality we have enjoyed at Saint Luke’s and would be very reluctant to return.

Winged Ox is ideal for food before going to the venue. Good service and atmosphere. You should book because it’s very popular. The venue itself is quite small and this adds to the experience. Love the stained glass windows!

Nice venue for a gig/comedy night. Converted church - excellent use of the space

Went to gig, what a smashing wee venue. Didn't go for dinner but has cracking dining area on site. Music was amazing.... Great sound.

Great first visit. We enjoyed the concert from Celtic Worship immensely, especially given the past history of the building.

Very hip and trendy joint. Beautiful food. Made by top chefs. Served by the best of staff. Excellent dj while eating. She plays a cool groove! Also dog friendly. Love this place. Will be back again and again.

Horrible staff here. Rude, unhelpful seem a bit full of themselves. Toilets are always dirty. Mediocre place.

I work in an expensive bar in city centre and would kill for the quality of staff this place has - can’t recommend enough

Went here for a gig, great venue with friendly staff and drinks not too expensive. Went into the bar afterwards where the music was good and the staff friendly again. Didn't have any food so can't comment on that.

Been coming here for years, love the place and the vibes. Tonight there was an event I couldn't get a ticket to, the bar and security team very generously let me poke my head through the door just for a song. One of the nicest things any barstaff/security has ever done for me and I greatly appreciated it. Lovely place, lovely staff

Great music venue. Love the acoustics. Only had food a couple of times but never disappointed. Staff friendly and helpful.

We had our home wedding reception in St Luke’s last Friday and it was perfect. Alyson helped us from the day we booked it over 2 years up until the day of the wedding, giving us all her advice from her experience, and also Tam who helped ensure everything ran like clockwork on the day. The venue looked beautiful and everyone was full of compliments for all of the staff who were working during the evening. I can’t speak highly enough about everyone. The drinks reception was great, never a moment where there wasn’t drinks available for guests to enjoy. We knew the food would be great as often enjoy going to the Winged Ox for nights out, and as expected all of the food was incredible from the canapés to the evening buffet. People were queuing up for second helpings!

Fantastic lunchtime experience at St Lukes and Winged Ox ahead of an afternoon of dancing. Special mention to James for his patience, helpfulness and humour.

They were absolutely amazing with accessibility! Everyone was super friendly and always looking out for our safety. Overall an amazing night with no anxieties all thanks to the amazing staff. Would highly recommend for everyone but especially those with disabilities and anxieties!!

Was there for the Stand Atlantic concert. Very cool atmosphere, young audience, sound was good, atmosphere too. Long queue at the entrance. I didn't test the restaurant/bar.

Went there for big nachos. Probably biggest nachos in Glasgow! The portion was truly massive as promised. Great friendly service, and vibrant atmosphere. Nacho chips used seemed to be the deep fat fried home made version, but that is just not my personal preference hence the 4.

Sunday afternoon in Glasgow . I'd maybe give it a miss of your looking for some atmosphere. I was really looking forward to it but the d.j played an absolutely anonymous set.We left after two drinks.....p.s the beer was tepid😟

Fantastic venue. Acoustics are superb and love the original old church feel. Didn't try the food but the bar options were excellent.

A cool joint with a good beer selection and tasty burgers. The old church is where they host gigs so will have to come back for one at some point. Has a good vibe about the place

Seven of us went from Spain specifically to have dinner there and it was quite an experience. All the delicious food, the burgers, the fish & chips and the spectacular atmosphere. And the service a 10. And also at the end they let us visit the concert hall. A great moment. thanks for everything

Fantastic food, fantastic service and fantastic environment. They're dog friendly and have a dog menu as well. Ticked every box for us, so five stars all round.

Great pub with extra friendly staff and good food.

Here for a wedding. Cracking venue for it. Only part I thought was a bit weird was the upstairs after the ceremony. Where the food was it was all a bit tight and was really warm. Also going up all the stairs was hard for the elderly guests.

Very friendly staff at reception, bar and service. The location is very quaint and original. The portions weren't huge, but the quality and taste were top. If you want to be sure of a place, you definitely have to make a reservation. We'd love to come back.

The building is so beautiful inside and we go here regularly to eat and see bands and love it so decided to get married there. and what a day we had. We can't praise Alyson and the team enough. Our day was so good and any issue we had they just fixed and made us feel so relaxed. The food was amazing and all the guests raved about it. Thank you to the St Lukes team, you're all amazing, we'll back. ❤

Excellent. A must do in Glasgow. Very good food (we can only recommend the Ox burger), impeccable servers and more than reasonable prices.

Went for a wedding, fantastic looking venue, with a great bar, and fantastic staff. Excellent beer and food selection. Will be back for a gig soon.

Lunch hours until 9:00 p.m. I recommend the fish and chips with beer and beef, tasty dishes and generous portions at £16 each plate. The service is friendly and attentive.

Nice place, food was good, the ribs were a bit dry and the side mixed salad overloaded with pickeld vegetables... bathroom was clean, very dog friendly! We'll come again :-)

Today's visit has little or nothing to do with the man with an orange for a head. Today I am visiting purely as Mr. Mowley. If you like live looped trance, then today you're in luck that's all Mr. Mowley does and they're on at 2pm. There's also music by Somnia, Henge are playing too and it's headlined by one of my favorite all time bands, Still can't drive!

Love coming for a pint here. Tried the food the other day and it was tasty, although the bread on my steak sandwich was a tad tough, and the chilli con carne wasn't spicy. Overall a pretty solid place for a drink and some food.

Despite this notice, the food arrived two hours after we did. Countless times we were told it was “coming soon”, then told other tables had been given priority over us because two of our party hadn’t turned up and we cancelled their food. Changing the original order meant we were punished with a two hour wait. We did attempt to complain to staff about the wait, but we were met with steely resolve, rude language and tones, and an insistence that the delay was “our fault”. The food was average at best, and definitely not worth the wait. This may be a nice place to sit with a beer or wine and relax to some chilled music, but don’t even think about bringing a group of friends here if you’re hungry. And if you have a problem that requires communication with the staff, I apologise in advance.

Great food, atmosphere and value, I'll definitely go again. I expected the boneless chicken wings to be like normal chicken wing size, just with the bone removed, but they were 4x the size, more like huge chicken fillets. Ordered the 15 when 10 would've been more than enough. They were delicious though, I'm so full 🫠☺️

1st time eating here and I loved it..great menu, great service, great atmosphere. The food was awesome, an outstanding experience. If you're going to St Lukes or any surrounding venues for a gig you gotta go here pre gig for a meal, they play great music too. 10 out of 10!!

Lovely pub good area. Little outdoor area for drink only, food indoors or in the beer garden at the side if you are early enough to get an outdoor area on a nice day as they fill up fast.

The jambalaya was not a Jambalaya by any stretch of the imagination, nor was it as described on the menu. When this was pointed out to waiting staff it was met with indifference. Despite it not being eaten they didn't offer to take it off the bill. The moving mountains burgers were deep fried and the beetroot chutney insipid. St Luke's is a great gig venue, but far from a great food venue .

Good for old dudes like me and trendy hipster beardies. Fish n chips were great. Staff very polite and helpful, they gave me a wee tour of the gig venue next door when I asked about it

Travelled through to Glasgow for a family friend’s wedding at Saint Luke’s and during the break between dinner and reception we headed next door for some drinks. Lovely place, beautiful wedding and caring employees. Served by a lovely girl called Martha who gave us all a great laugh. Will definitely be back next time I’m in Glasgow!

We were there last week as a group and the food was from mediocre to great. We sat outside and it's a little annoying that other customers are smoking where other people eat. They could go outside the door instead of doing that where people are seated. I had the Slow braised feather blade of beef (great), my friends had the Mac&cheese (good but nothing out of the ordinary, no stringy cheese sadly), the Nachos (mediocre at best, they weren't crispy but rather fat and almost soggy with the chicken added on top with lots of fat) and the club sandwich (great). ***BEWARE: There is a 12,5% SERVICE FEE. It says "optional" on the bill, but they don't ask if you want to pay it, when you pay with card, they just type the whole amount and then ask for additional tips again..***

Excellent place to share with friends, delicious beer, well-prepared drinks and the crispy chicken is very good, I recommend it because the atmosphere is good.

Fun place with an interesting menu and nice atmosphere. The Hail Caesar salad and sweet potato fries were fantastic. Staff was super friendly and even shared some history of the building.

Went for a gig, gorgeous intimate venue. Only wish there was a option to sit as I am disabled and can't stand for long periods. Didn't eat at the restaurant so can't comment on that.

Went to a great gig there during Jazz Festival, amazing atmosphere and good music in bar too. Reasonably priced food and drinks.

Very lively atmosphere, it’s a busy place. Restaurant; pub. It’s a bit of both. The service has gone right u, much improved from my last visit. We had been in from 5:30 for food, prior to a concert next door. It was getting going by around 6:30 with music about to kick off the night for the building crowd. But this did not slow down the staff and the service, the team were excellent. The food fantastic, starters by the way are enormous portions. Great coffee finished of the meal.

visited here on weekend trip to Glasgow with wife 01/06/24 , had meal, asked for bill which came to £54 gave server £60 cash told him keep change, left restaurant and we were walking down street when we were accosted by a staff member and security guard who were shouting at us for leaving without paying, we were forced to come back to restaurant to pay again whereupon they realised their mistake. Not nice to be treated like criminals in front of other people in public so will not be back and will not recommend to others, altogether spoilt our night when we could have been treated better in Mc Donald's

We loved this restaurant. Food is good. Simple but tasty, and well presented. Service was great and the atmosphere and decor amazing. Highly recommended!

Had a lovely meal but after paying left was then chased down the street saying we never paid when we had asked to go back in to be told we had payed the system was slow not our problem but theirs spoiling our hole night never going back a disgrace!!!!!

Fantastic venue. Went for the Blancmange gig. Great venue - not too big but big enough that there is atmosphere. Quick and easy with no fuss from security going into the gig as sometimes happens. Didn't eat there but had a drink before it. The bar staff are great and deserve a payrise. Look forward to my next visit!

Very attentive staff very quirky decor dog friendly great location

Interesting atmosphere with friendly staff. We sat at the community table and had a lively conversation with a group of locals on a weekly get-together. In a bit of a rougher part of town where you may not want to walk alone or at night. Relatively small portions for the price.

I have been to this building before with other friends in the past hosted the Dirty dancing/ Grease tribute. Myself and My friend/lil cousin went to the L.M Dunes gig on Friday night and it was amazing. Wonderful and beautiful building you wouldn't think it was a place for gigs if you went by it. Resnable price for drinks.

This has became our go to for food/drinks before a day out. The atmosphere & music is good, shows sport on the screens, staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is superb.

Been here a couple of times for gigs, very up close and personal with great acoustics and a really good atmosphere.

A cool venue for events that is well setup to handle crowds. Could do with ventilation on warm days but the in room bars work a treat

An amazing example of not just East end Glasgow, but the city in general. Delicious, honest and unpretentious. One of our favourite places in the city to go.

During our visit to Glasgow, we have had dinner here 3 times (booking is required), and drinks twice (no booking necessary), and we have had absolutely no issues. The food was great, and the staff was friendly and helpful, with a very good selection of cocktails, brews, and scotch whiskey. I'm looking forward to visiting them again if we make it bake to Glasgow!

Great burgers, attentive service and good atmosphere. I had the Korean burger which was very tasty and some sweet potato fries.

Very cozy, larger pub where you can eat and drink well and have live music almost every evening.

Glasgow is famous for gig venues, among other things, and St Luke's is right up there with the best of them. Astonishing acoustics in the old church and, if that wasn't enough, a top of the line restaurant and bar in the attached buildings. Certainly one to check out.
