What a feast! James outdid himself today! Absolutely incredible Yorkshire pudding loads of fresh cooked vegetables and as much tasty gravy as you want!

Well here is an honest review for our first time here………. Excellent and I couldn’t eat it all but left enough room for dessert 😜

This is my go to pub when I am visiting family in Gravesend. Friendly staff and a great owner (Paul).

I visited on Saturday 2023-08-19 ~14:00 for a late lunch. The beer garden was big and got plenty of tables. The burger 🍔 was ok, fresh from the grill. Nothing could have gone wrong really since it only has simple components. However beer and food options were quite limited, also the general cleanliness wasn’t great.

Visiting friends in the area, this was the venue recommended for lunch. I have to confess that, on arrival, I found the interior to be rather shabby and was concerned about the apparent lack of customers and staff. As the weather was warm, we chose to sit in the garden and, once again, it all seemed rather tired and shabby. However, the staff that served us were all friendly and the food was fantastic. There were four of us and, between us, we ordered three scampi and chips and one burger. The food was well cooked and well presented. More importantly, it was served hot and very quickly. I wish I had gone for the burger, because that looked amazing and I have since heard that burgers at The Windmill Tavern are bordering on legendary. So no complaints about the food or the staff but, for me personally, I just wanted the inside and outside spruced up a little. Then again, people tell me that "Shabby Chic" is a style, so perhaps I am the one who is out of touch!!

We had hired the gazebo for a family and friends celebration several months ago, and despite some changes in staff/management between booking and the event itself, the current staff made sure our event was as we'd originally hoped. Ed and Louise and the rest of the team did brilliantly to accommodate our party of 60, reserving an area in the sun as well as making the gazebo look amazing for us. They were really helpful with our large pre-order of bottles for arrival drinks for people, and were really helpful when it came to some guests' dietary requirements. The BBQ food that was available went down a treat! All our guests had a great time and said how lovely the garden is and that they would be back. We were really happy and would recommend it as a perfect venue for a big get-together.

Fantastic pub. Very much a country pub, in a town! Garden is fantastic and a real sun trap, with fantastic food! Friendly staff, with a brilliant and friendly environment!

Nice looking pub but needs to improve on customer service/care. Visited here on Mothers Day and had a cracking meal and the staff who were there at the time were fantastic. Sadly though the staff who had customer care skills have now sadly left. I booked for an event for my Birthday in July yet the pub had the audacity to cancel my booking without even ringing me up even though they had my mobile number written down in their diary. They said they contacted me via email yet I never received this email. All very sad as when the previous staff were there it ran like clockwork. All it needs is for them to have some customer care skills and it would be a lovely pub.

What a shame! This used to be the best pub in Gravesend but has become a mess with awful service. We popped in for some drinks and food but the kitchen was closed despite the sign outside. It took ages to get served just drinks as there was no one behind the bar for a while. We was going to ask about coming back later for food but the barmaid was on her phone. It all looks so unloved now with a couple of strange but friendly locals making it even less attractive! Please, please turn back the clock!!!

The four of us went for Sunday lunch on Mother's Day, cracking place. Staff were lovely and food was amazing. Its the extra touches that matter and today my Wife was offered a complimentary drink for Mothers Day, meal came with complimentary wine and then at the end she was presented with a box of chocolates. Great seeing the place busy too. Thank you we will be back for definite.

Would leave 0 stars if I could! Was charged £9 for 3 diet cokes only to find out we’d been served tescos own brand diet cola! When I pointed it out I was shrugged at and told the taps were broken. Drink was undrinkable so took it back to the bar and requested a refund. Got told you always get charged more at a pub. If you’re going to charge £3 for a single Diet Coke, you should be buying the branded and you’d still be making a profit to cover your over heads. Disgusting.

I visited with friends for afternoon tea and I could not fault the garden or the service. Food was lovely with a nice selection and staff were attentive.

Country pub in the city. Friendly, good beer, rambling rooms and big garden. Has Proper Job and Timothy Taylors real ale -amongst others. Usually good local atmosphere. Occasional bands.

A fantastic pub with a great atmosphere. The Sunday lunch is to die for!! Hands down succulent meat, crispy potatoes and beautiful crunchy veg served in generous portions! The garden was a gorgeous place to enjoy the meal and the attention to detail from the gardener is amazing. I think he should be on the Chelsea flower show the garden is that beautiful. So definitely make room and roll up to the windmill tavern. A great place any day of the week!

Wow, what a pub! I visited for the first time this week and quite honestly I’ve never had pub food SO GOOD! The service was amazing, everyone is friendly and attentive. The pub is well presented and the garden is amazing, will definitely be spending a lot of my summer evenings there! The food is incredible, great portion sizes and well presented. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

We visited for a Mother’s Day lunch and all enjoyed our roast dinners, the beef was cooked to perfection and the cauliflower cheese was lovely. Due to it being busy there was a delay with our food but the staff couldn’t have been more apologetic...

The Windmill Tavern is a precious gem. My wife took me there yesterday for Sunday lunch to mark my birthday. It was the best Sunday lunch I have ever had out without a doubt! We started with a sharing plate of crispy whitebait and excellent Tartare sauce. This had to be followed by the roast beef and all the trimmings. The topside was superb, perfectly cooked and succulent. There was attention to detail with everything on the plate. The carrots were plentiful and tasty were just right - as were the broccoli and cauliflower. The roast potatoes were crisp on the outside and fluffy within and the Yorkshire pudding was great both in flavour and texture. The wine we chose was top of the range. And the service was impeccably friendly. All in all I had the best birthday outing for a very long time. Thank you.

The best family pub in the area. Great friendly staff, very reasonable prices and very large inviting garden. If you catch it when there is live music and bbq on then it’s an added bonus.

Very clean and friendly venue. A lovely outside area to socialise. There was a live band there. The music and the vybz was electrifying. The staff are helpful and great service. Would recommend if you in the Gravesend area.

Disappointed that the discriminate against vegetarians. The pint and burger offer is only available with meat burgers. Over a £ 6 difference yet the spicy vegetarian burger is not even a good quality veggie burger. They both come with same garnish and dressings.

Awesome place, basically like a country pub but in the Windmill Hill Conservation Area just outside of Gravesend Town Centre. A characterful pub with a massive gorgeous beer garden, friendly, helpful staff, great homecooked food and a good range of drinks. They have live music and events there regularly too.

Booked table for anniversary today, arrived in pouring rain & joked that we were sitting in gazebo. Staff checked with manager(I think). We were told gazebo for regulars. We were expected to sit & eat in a storm. We left & won’t return. Shocked at the service at a time when pubs need customers

Ed and his team are superb. The service is friendly and efficient, food is delicious and the beer garden is big and lovely.

Went here today with friends for the first time and think we found a little gem of a pub hidden away in a quiet part of the town.We were greeted on arrival by very friendly staff and invited into the very large and spacious garden which is completely enclosed anbd gives a really "Villagey" feel.We were attended to vbery quickly by a lovely lady (with a great Glaswegian accent) and our drinks arrived soon after with some menu's. After a nice pause our order was taken and in due course our food arrived - have to day the quality and the presentation of the food we ordered was superb. As a vegan I had the Spicy Beanburger and fries which was awesome and not at all dry like some I have had - I could tell the veg in the burger was crisp and fresh. My friends had fish dishes which were equally beatifully presented and all the food was piping hot. (They even warmed the slate that I hade my burger on- nice and the plates for the fish dishes - nice touch).We had further drinks and coffees and were attended to at all times with just the right of attentitiveness without it being intrustive.All in all this is a fab little pub with great staff who seem to enjoy what they do and do it well. Food can't be faulted and the environment is very inviting and welcoming! If you haven't tried the Windmill - give it a go - you won't be disappointed.

Whenever I come here, the customer service is always top notch. Today I tried the food (mussels, halloumi fries and chicken strips) and it was sensational. Definitely worth the visit if you haven’t been before! You will not be disappointed!

Visited for the first time today. Only 1 staff member on for the first 45 minutes and then 2 but 20+ people in the garden. Service was shockingly slow, so much so we left before ordering food and got a takeaway instead. Lovely setting, hopefully will try and visit again on a day there’s more staff to try the food but not a good first impression.

We visited the Windmill Tavern where we met up with family after the long lockdown. We chose it as it had been recommended to us often and were very impressed. The food was excellent and good value, the staff were friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities were very clean and atmosphere welcoming. Obviously, due to current restrictions we were in the Garden which is larger than average with beautiful colourful boarders. It was a perfect way to spend an afternoon and we look forward to our next visit which we hope will be soon.

The Windmill used to be such a lovely little pub. Sadly it’s gone into decline . Visited yesterday and was so disappointed with the terrible service. Staff obviously not used to table service couldn’t cope with the drinks orders, the beer and Diet Coke was flat. The toilets were dirty, they’d obviously not been cleaned that day. There was an empty soap bottle in the ladies toilet. The garden - once beautiful was in a sorry state. They could do with some patio heaters there too. I won’t be visiting again.

First meal out for over six months due to covid, excellent service, in garden, good pub grub, hot well served, even coffee was hot and great service a very pleasant afternoon.

Unfortunately this pub doesn’t seem to manage well with the Covid 19 restrictions. This was the first pub I visited since lockdown and I felt uncomfortable with the large groups mingling hugging etc in the garden. I totally understand how hard it is for staff to manage this but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored. What made it worse was they removed a constructive comment I made to this effect on their social media page. I don’t wish this business harm, it’s always been a nice place to visit with a lovely garden, and we could do with more of that in gravesend. But I do think the management should acknowledge the problems and address them without being defensive and rude to valuable customers who just want a pleasant and safe environment to have a drink or a meal.

Great pub. Great beer. Great staff. Great food. Great atmosphere always. Best pub garden in Gravesend. They have great bands when not in Covid effected times. Allowed us to hire one of the bars to host our daughters 21st get together. Buffet was amazing.

I attended the windmill tavern for my friends birthday and we were literally waited on all night. There was never an glass empty and the atmosphere was lovely. Definitely recommend!

So my friend and I stumbled across this establishment whilst actually looking for a different place and decided to pop in on a sunny Wednesday. Well we were not disappointed ! Greeted by the most friendliest bar staff who outlined the plan regarding the covid check and trace signing in and sanitising areas and directed to the loveliest garden I’ve possibly been in for a pub in a town. We were then served outside by a young waitress who advised us of the special deal of the day..lucky for us wine down Wednesday and we ordered a glass of our favourites . We then noticed a lot of food coming out to the various other customers which looked quite marvellous so decided why not let’s order . our waitress came to us and advised us of what was available and to our absolute joy advised of a 50 percent discount continuing thru the month for food! We ordered the chicken burger with fries and a scampi chips and salad . Food was plentiful, hot and tasty and for once my fussy self was not disappointed . Service was on point not once was I trying to catch staffs eye to order and we actually ended up staying for a number of hours and leaving the car there over night . We will definitely be returning and quite possibly making this little gem of a boozer our new treat to go .

Popped in with the Mrs and I have to say I'm very pleasantly surprised this pub is in Gravesend! EXCELLENT food, staff are warm and friendly. I recommend the chicken roast with the billion dollar gravy stunning!Also, the garden is gorgeous!!100% will be going back again very soon.

I visited here with my family and was extremely happy! The waitresses in the garden were wonderful, meaning we didn’t have to go to the bar and it was a lovely way to revisit pubs after the lockdown. I was happy to see the tables were spread out my family was made to feel safe. Also the food was very enjoyable, with huge portions! We will definitely be coming back to this great pub!

Great little family fun pub! Visited with a few mates for Sunday lunch and was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the garden was. Staff were extremely attentive and the food was very tasty and reasonable priced. I would definitely book ahead for food as sometimes they get quite busy on Sundays for roast dinners but otherwise had a really enjoyable experience and would definitely recommend.

I have used this pub for a number of years. Has always had a nice local feel. The garden in the summer is amazing and hold brilliant events through out the year.

I thorougly enjoy visiting the Windnill Tavern in Gravesend. I am not a local but I go out my way to visit it as I like to relax in the large beer garden and the staff are super friendly and attentive. The food has to be one of the best places I've eaten, the menu is extensive and it has something for everyone. The chef goes that little bit extra for his customers and he focuses on the small detail which adds to the customer experience. The landlord and staff have worked incredibly hard to make it a smashing little hidden gem in Gravesend. Go there and you won't be disappointed!

Visit this pub regularly over the last few years and have always found it to be a pleasant experience. Staff are really friendly and accommodating, always making me feel welcome. They offer a wide variety of beers and ales. Perfect in the summer as the garden is massive. Makes for a nice spot to catch up with friends or a lunch date with family when the kitchens open. Since COVID it’s been abit different but the windmill enforce social distancing , track and trace, good hygiene standards and a one way system. Puts me right at ease. Overall would thoroughly recommend. Great pub

I've been going here for a while and the staff are always friendly however I was there on Tuesday night in the garden and listened to one pink haired member of staff be rather rude about one of the people drinking there as he went inside. I understand not everyone likes everyone but I'd like to think the employees aren't rude about the customers in earshot of anyone else in the garden. I didn't know the man she was talking about but it really did make me think about some of your staff and how little they think of the people that go there. Again, some of the staff are great but if I walk past and see this one, I will not be come in.
