The Clarendon Royal Hotel Restaurant in Gravesham

Lovely place and I really liked the Royal Clarendon, the staff were lovely and it was in a great location .

We really enjoyed our night's stay at the hotel. Lovely welcoming staff, comfortable bed and stunning estuary views. Very handy for town centre too. We would definitely stay again.

A lovely team greeted us at the Clarendon, we only stayed for one night. But will be back to use a hub to visit the surrounding areas. The rooms were fine and decent, one of the strongest showers too. They have a bar here, which is brilliant priced. A car park and garden area by the river were also a nice point.

Really enjoyed a nice healthy lunch at Clarendon Hotel recently and it was perfect, wonderful summer vibes throughout, outside seating area available right by the river and lots of drinks to choose from at the bar, welcomed by very friendly staff and quick service. Popped in to use the bar. Very quiet. The outside area, with the Marquee, is looking very rundown, with weeds growing around the Marquee itself! Hopefully this will be cleaned up soon, for the Sumner. UPDATE Of late the bar never seems to be open. I pass by regularly and it always seems shut by 10pm. Garden area over road still scruffy, needs weeding. Could be a goldmine in Summer, if run properly.

Well the hotel looks fine from the outside and as for the inside well the restaurant/bar area looked great, they mentioned a function room but i never went there so dont know what it was honestly. There isnt much facilities there and as for going through the corridor its got decent design up until i went to the room i was staying as the heat over there not just in the hallway where my room was at but my room itself was so hot and all i was left with was a small fan that didnt blow that much wind, was pretty weak. I did find out that i was able to open the window as that got me kind of confused. My room was pretty basic and small, not much for design but the bathroom looked good

Absolutely disgusting 2024.. firstly the lady on reception was running both bar and everything else..never had a clue on prices and was told on arrival the bar is shut soon .felt so sorry for her we went to leave and got locked in the building as nobody was there to run the place..left and got a better place about 2 miles away will be seeking my money back. Absolutely horrendous

I had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The staff was welcoming, the rooms were cozy, and the dining was excellent. Can't wait to return.

Me and my girlfiend popped in to the bar for a quick drink today and was greeted by a very friendly Michelle. We were chatting and explained it was my partners birthday. The bar is very nice and we asked to go and sit in the garden overlooking the river. 5 minutes later Michelle cane over with two very nice chocolate brownies with ice cream and strawberries and wished my girlfriend a Happy Birthday. Was such a nice surprise and they were gorgeous. Will definately be back again as we totally felt welcome. Michelle you are a star x

All.ok no issues parking was a bit iffy when i called didn't get an answer until I arrived as they didn't call me back turns out it's a enter you reg when inside the hotel. Simple enough answer?

Avoid! Our room did not had blind. After a while we got another room - one of the apartments. Though this one did had blinds, the spotlight outside lid up the room. The shower was spraying everywhere. Everyday at 5am a loud noise would start, like some sort of machine turned on. There was also a weird smell through the building and in the hallway and room there were random loose electrical wires. The bed was horrible and cleanliness needed serious improvements.

We visited the Clarendon for a Sunday lunch after the Remembrance Service along the Royal Peir Road, having not been there for several years, we were very impressed, the staff were friendly, the ambience was fine, the food was obviously prepared by someone who takes a pride in what they are producing (excellent) the Chef also came out during consumption to make sure everything was up to scratch, also free parking exactly opposite, with finally prices by today's challenge's not excessive. We would definitely recommend this place for a meal or a drink, and we will be going back. they may have had a fire a few weeks ago, but their all fired up now !

So my wife booked a table for 7 at the restaurant to celebrate her 60th birthday on 11th September. Despite confirming on 28th August that despite a recent fire all bookings were still being honoured, when we rang on the afternoon of 9th September to pay in advance a proportion of the bill, we were told that the booking was not being honoured! We would not even have been told that if we had not rung to make this (voluntary) advance payment. We would have probably have found out when we turned up for the meal on her birthday! My wife is extremely upset - finding an alternative with less than 24 hours remaining has proved difficult. DO NOT EXPECT ANY KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE - let alone good customer service - from this hotel. We will never go there again - and would advise others not to as well

Popped in for lunch with my Wife and Daughter. No one behind the bar, but what looked like a couple of staff members sitting at a nearby table. Eventually, someone appeared from out from the back and we were told to sit wherever we liked. Ordered drinks and sat down. We were brought menus and we placed our orders. After about 10 minutes a different member of staff came and asked us what we wanted as the first one had forgotten, or couldn’t read what she’d written down on her pad. Nearly half an hour later a bowl of fries was put on the table. We picked at the the fries until two of the three meals arrived. The third, crab linguine topped with a lobster tail (£32) arrived several minutes later. All in all, mediocre food with very poor service.

Excellent lunch today , great food , good service , comfortable bar for lunch , will certainly visit again .

I have lived nearby for almost 20 years. Have been in for a drink a couple of times, during week day daytime, but never eaten there. I looked on the website last night (Sunday), and it said it was open until 10.30. However, when myself and a friend passed by at 7.00pm (ish), the door was closed, and it said for residents to tap their cards to open. I was convinced, therefore (as this has happened before), that they were only open for residents. As mainly we go out on Saturday and Sunday evenings to eat, we shall go to our usual places to eat which are open.

Lovely meal and great place to visit on a weekend right on the river food was spot on can’t fault any of it only complaint we got was service girl needs to cheer up was very moody didn’t spoil our evening but give her some happy pills

A Christmas family meal which was average at best, which was a real shame as the food was good but the service was disappointing, disjointed and inattentive. I get it’s a challenging environment at the moment in hospitality especially with staffing, but with only two tables in the dining room, it didn’t help that one staff member spent more time seating at the other table than doing their job. After 25mins, and a 5 min hunt for a staff member, they finally cleared our mains, but we gave up waiting for my mother’s dessert, paid the bill and left.

Just had dinner here with two friends and it was outstanding. The service was brilliant and my fillet steak was cooked to perfection, rare!!😍 Followed by the most amazing biscoff cheesecake. Also had a beautiful cocktail, very good selection!! Next time I am down visiting my friends, I'm certain we will be back.😁 Tptally recommend!!

Well done Chef and staff at Clarendon. Gravesenders deserve good things and here it is at last. The food has got better and better over the last year - had a meal yesterday and we were all blown away with how delicious it was. It’s also a lovely sunny spot, and perfect for watching boats and spectacular sunsets. The poor staff were a bit over-stretched, but did their best. Keep going guys, this place is worth it.

Had afternoon tea for 6 people here on a Sunday, perfect afternoon tea lovely selection. Great catering and service. Would definitely recommend! Location is beautiful too.

The food was SO GOOD and like CHEAP and presented really nice/fancy. Staff were always checking and making sure we were enjoying our time and if we needed anything. Drinks were good but a lil bit weak and I couldn’t find the option on the app to make it a double :( but honestly nothing to complain about it was really nice :)

If you're looking for somewhere special without the commute to London, look no further. You'll find the best fine dining at a fraction of the cost of travelling up town here. Myself and a friend have found this place during lockdown, where they offered a wonderful outside menu in their fabulous marquee overlooking the river. The food and service is absolutely second to none, a top chief offering the best London could offer, and staff and manager that go the extra mile to make sure their clientele enjoy the best dining and relaxing experience.. Thank you always the to the lovely Manager and staff for making us so welcome. Will recommend to all of our friends.

I booked a table here for yesterday for myself and a few friends. We got there to find they were shut. We got in contact with a staff member there who happily opened up just for us (even though we were happy to go elsewhere), they had a lovely lady make us some cocktails (which were GORGEOUS!). The barman that stayed with us was funny and friendly, the food was fab. Thanks guys, it was much appreciated. See you in a few weeks!

We were all happy with the food and also the drinks. They are set up for covid with social distancing and we all had a relaxed and enjoyable afternoon.

Had the friday fish supper meal from the hotel restaurant and it was honestly the best fish and chips I’ve had in ages. Fish was fresh, batter crispy and chips well seasoned. On top of that it was only £10 with a glass of wine!

Definitely recommend the new tastes of the world menu - the Japanese menu was amazing and looking forward to trying out some more of these weekend specials. All the food was cooked to perfection and staff were friendly and everything is safe, clean and spacious. Tables available inside and out now so even better!

Myself and partner had the set japanese meal, which was absolutely gorgeous. Katsu curry and marinated king prawns. 2 different types of rice and very interesting gourgang aubergine. My son had the steak special which looked amazing and daughter had the posh hot dog, which came with the best French fries she's ever eaten. Staff were super atentive as normal. Very good covid procedures in place. Very well stocked bar with great selection of beers and wines. Manager Steve really couldn't have been more helpful and imfotmative about the menu. It was as if he cooked the meal himself. We will be back for Indian thali next week, and Mexican themed street food the week after.. Thankyou for a thourghly enjoyable meal and afternoon out, with the best views of the thames.

would like to say the biggest thank you to the Royal Clarendon hotel and all the staff for making my 30th birthday celebrations simply the best. My birthday meal you accommodated for a large number of close family and friends an we could not fault one thing, food was amazing. My 30th birthday party was absolutely brilliant. The venue looked beautiful and was perfect size. Everyone commented how lovely the room looked an lit up. The restaurant was actually closed, although we had booked! So we had to eat in the bar, with a strong smell of paint. There were only 2 other people there, so no atmosphere at all.

My friend and I had two lovely lunch dishes, I had a sandwich and chips and my friend had a steak with salad. Lovely atmosphere, would go back.

We booked a table just before Christmas to have lunch as they had a lovely menu advertised on their website. When we got to the hotel all we were given was a menu with a small selection sandwiches. When asked about their lovely menu advertised on their website their response was they they had a change of management and had to wait three weeks before they could update it Now five weeks later I checked their website and they haven't changed. or updated their menu. Why? How many other people have experienced this as it is a beautiful setting but please have the correct menu information on your website as it can be very misleading.

Having been frequent customers over the past few years, including holding a 50th Birthday celebratory lunch and evening party ( which was excellent). Today we arrived for Sunday lunch, having not been there for approximately two months to find the place has become bereft of leadership and management and senior ‘front of house’ skills. A fantastic young man named Ben was left to heroically front up what can only be described as a charade as to how we have been treated in the past. There was absolutely no evidence of anyone beyond Ben being responsible for this establishment. The lunch was appalling- cold and and lacked presentation, no sense of occasion and we have always held this establishment as a place we can take ourselves or visitors with a sense of confidence that what we will get will be at least good or outstanding value for money, quality and choice. It just reflects how effective Steve was in terms in both creating atmosphere, making people feel valued and welcome and demanding high standards from his staff - this will take some turning around.

Having been regular customers for years, we were disappointed at being made to feel unwelcome yesterday, when we popped in for our usual Saturday afternoon sojourn. Despite this we honoured today's lunch booking but it was a total disaster. A very limited menu and the roast potatoes were raw inside. We sent our plates back as we were not prepared to have the rest of the food kept warm while the potatoes were cooked properly and are now back home enjoying a Chinese takeaway. We understand the establishment is seeking a new kind of clientele, we wish them luck in their search!

We like a Sunday lunch, as you normally get a good choice of meat, plenty of veg and a suitable fish or vegetarian option for my wife. Glass of wine, full tum and no washing up afterwards. These days we take the mother-in-law as well, and generally it's a very pleasant experience. We thought we'd try the Clarendon on a friend's recommendation as we had not been there for some time. My wife and I were in the area during the week with some time to kill (that doesn't happen very often these days!) so we dropped in for a drink, and made a booking for Sunday lunch personally with the duty manager - a personable young man who seemed to know what he was doing. We were therefore extremely miffed when we turned up on the Sunday to find no record of the booking and the restaurant closed for a private party. The staff weren't particularly helpful or apologetic, and the manager was not on duty that day, though he had previously said he would be. Fortunately, we were able to get in without too much trouble at a local carvery. So this is a review of a meal we never actually had. It's true what they say, though, everyone rises to their own level of incompetence....

Went for a midweek lunch. Staff incredibly helpful and friendly ensuring we had a table that was easily accessible. Food enjoyable and lovely setting with views of the river. Even let our dog in.

I attended the harry potter themed afternoon tea with my partner, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was really nice and everything was presented well. A lot of thought was put into it, the price was reasonable and i had a really nice experience.

Having decided to have Sunday lunch we booked the Clarendon. The starters were very nice (Ham Hock) Our main meal of roast beef rump was well presented unfortunately the roast potatoes were very hard. The staff were very kind and gave us our desserts as compensation for the potatoes. On arriving the staff were very friendly and helpful, ensuring we were well looked after. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble for them and gave us good service. They have a good selection of drinks which should cater for most peoples' taste.

Fabulous Harry Potter Afternoon Tea.

We were one of the lucky ones to nab tickets for this. I had a girly afternoon with my 2 daughters and we enjoyed it from beginning to end. We was greeted by Jack before we had even entered with a welcoming chat and shown into the bar as we were a bit early. Then right on cue we were shown to our table and waited on perfectly, enough to be on hand if we needed anything but not hovering. The meal was very tasty and filling and the atmosphere great, we can't wait for the next one :)

Booked this about a month ago and was not disappointed, chocolate frogs, potion drinks and edible flower pots, even floating candles from the ceiling. My 2 sons thought it was fabulous as did myself and my sister. Great effort and lot of hard work from jack and jade. Thank you

An excellent hotel that I would recommend to anyone, this hotel has fast links to London within walking distance the staff especially the Manager Steve and waitress Christine are very helpful and friendly, priced right and central to many restaurants etc

My husband and I took my elderly mother to the Clarendon hotel restaurant today. My mother needs a wheelchair and it was problematic finding a restaurant with wheelchair access near the river serving the traditional English food my mother would enjoy. On arrival at the restaurant we were welcomed by the friendly staff. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, and I would definitely go to the Clarendon again.

I would highly recommend this lovely hotel and restaurant the bar manager Jack was really polite and friendly he was very helpful and made our special night amazing the food was such high quality I was over the moon with it the chef is amazing please guys go here you will be blown away

We needed to find somewhere that had easy access for our mother who has walking difficulties and was celebrating a very special birthday. This restaurant certainly fitted the bill with a lovely view across the river as well. The food was good value for money and suited our requirements. The staff were very attentive and we had a lovely afternoon.

I'd celebrated my 30th at the Clarendon last year and had an amazing time. This year, I booked the afternoon tea with friends and we chose the bottomless package. The unlimited cocktails and prosecco were free flowing and the food was so good! We were really looked after and I will always be a regular there..100% will be doing the bottomless afternoon tea again :) Thank you for looking after my friends and I, we loved it there!

This was our second visit to The Clarendon and I have to say, their food has been so tasty and cooked perfectly both times, once with friends and the other with the kids for mothers day. Its reasonably priced for the quality of the food and the service is great and very friendly. Will be going back!

I booked the Clarendon for an overnight stay and afternoon for a party of 15 for a hen do. The management were amazing- so helpful and accommodating! Food was great, rooms were lovely and service was superb!! Our party had a fabulous time. Thank you!

Although we did not stay at the hotel, we booked a bottomless brunch for my friends birthday. We were completely blind going in and although the exterior made me slightly apprehensive. However I could not be more pleased with our time there, from start to finish every single member of their team made us feel welcome and at ease. We had an amazing time and we definitely will back again.

had a great night last night with my girlfriend as we thought we would pop into the the restaurant and have walked away with the ambition and intent to go back. The food was amazing and the staff was very helpful. One staff in particular though made our night A* so thank you to the bar man jacob for having amazing customer service skills and a great attitude.

Went here for a date night with my partner and had a very lovely time, place has a warm welcoming feeling and the staff there are friendly and welcoming. In particular Jacob who made our night very easy and pleasant. Food was really nice and drinks were really tasty. Me and my partner are even thinking about coming back to stay. Went for a Sunday lunch, all the food was excellent would recommend the ham hock croquettes(great starter). the service was quick and friendly would recommend .

We booked for The Blockhouse Restaurant but were disappointed to be shown to the dining area in the bar.The waiter explained that because there were not many bookings they thought the atmosphere would be too quiet in the restaurant.We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and had rather been looking forward to a nice quiet dining experience , instead we were in a noisy bar with loud music .However apart from that the staff are all friendly , the food was good , and the locally produced Meopham wine was really nice.

I held a party at the Clarendon last night. The function room is excellent, a great size with a bar and a dance floor and room for plenty of tables. There is space for a DJ or a singer but I chose just to use their sound system and created my own playlist, just hit play and we were off! There are disco lights so straight away it created a great ambiance. We had 60 plus people there and the atmosphere was great. The buffet was perfect, the homemade sausage rolls and chicken skewers deserve a special mention, but all the food was superb.

We stayed here as part of a dinner, bed and breakfast deal. Fantastic value for money!! Been for food here a few times before, so knew it would be amazing and it didn't disappoint. It was very quiet when we visited and I don't understand why this place is not packed out - it deserves to be!! Every single staff member is lovely, friendly and fun but also very professional and attentive. The cocktails are amazing and the food is so beautifully presented and delicious combination of flavours. Looking forward to visiting again soon!!

We wanted somewhere different to go to for my sons 18th birthday celebration lunch. I hadn't been to The Clarendon for at least 30 years but chose it as our venue after reading positive reviews and I must say we were not disappointed!! I was surprised to find that we were sitting in the bar (albeit at the far end with other dining tables) and not in the restaurant however the waiter explained there were few bookings so the atmosphere would be better in the bar area - and he was right - it wouldn't have been great sitting on our own. The food was superb - there was not one thing to fault. The waiter was attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for him. I'm already planning my next visit!! Thank you for making this day special.

We had a wonderful evening at the Clarendon Royal Hotel. The meal was truly delightful, the staff were attentive without being intrusive and an absolute credit to the restaurant. They made us feel really special in fact the best service we have received in ages. I could not recommend it highly enough. The food was excellent. Well done for making our evening extra special.

We arrived for 3 x 5 years old's birthday parties rolled into one and have to say, it was one of the best parties I have been to. The hotel staff were very warm and welcoming and were helped to find where we needed to go. The entertainment was external, but the room was warm, comfortable and catered for all needs. The food seemed limitless and was delicious. Miniature handmade beef, chicken and halloumi burgers in a brioche bun. Divine fish and chips which I simply could not stop going back for. Internal bar that was very well stocked. All in all, we had a fantastic time and would consider staying there if we did not live so locally. Highly recommended.

After writing a glowing review a year or so ago I felt required to submit this 'not so glowing' report. The staff seemed to be inexperienced but were very receptive to our list of complaints and discounted the bill very reasonably. some items may seem trivial to some but I feel are notable.

Wonderful experience in a fabulous restaurant with lovely views of the Thames, we had three different 3 course meals from the set menu, all were 10/10. Prices were very good and will definately be returning. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.

Seven members of my family had a late breakfast to celebrate my sons 18th Birthday today. We prearranged a 10am Breakfast/brunch. The staff were excellent and the food was very good. Plenty of options available including a vegetarian full English breakfast.

Attended with a large group of nearly 40 for our Xmas dinner. Couldn't fault any aspect of our visit. Sat down promptly and food was served efficiently and hot. Staff were all excellent. No complaints from anyone, and with such a large number that's some achievement. Overall a great experience.

This building has been restore to its former glory and has a wealth of history. The refurbishment has been completed to a high standard and it retains its charm and service to its customers.

Had a get together with family and friends. We had a lovely evening the buffet was very tasty and very well presented. We have been here frequently for drinks but this was the first time with 40 family and friends.

Booked the Private area for 18 People for a 30th birthday and the staff and management where great from start to finish.

To be honest I've had better food in my local kebab house - plus the restaurant was empty for most of our time there, which I suppose says it all really! Staff were about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike (sarcasm meant) and couldn't even get the card machine working to pay our bill.

A group of friends and I had Sunday lunch at this great restaurant, it’s hidden away from the main town centre and really is worth a visit, all the staff were very attentive including the bar staff who kept my friends young son entertained making cocktails (fruit and water only) but it certainly impressed him, will certainly return again

Well what can i say, the food was superb from start to finish with such a variety of choice, to be honest i didnt expect it to be so good, but service and food was superb, highly recommend the prawn starter and fish medley which i had hubby had steak and he said it melted in his mouth. Breakfast is to die for also so much choice and cooked to order, which to me you cant get any better than that as i cant stand the buffet style breakfasts as always cold even if your the first ones in. Highly recommend will be returning.

We went as a party of 8 for a 40th birthday meal, the meal was very very nice, the service was good, the options on the menu suitable for all our tastes and the desserts were absolutely gorgeous :)

I have lived in Higham for a very long time and this was the first time we tried this restaurant and I am delighted we did. The quality of the food was superb. The knowledge of the manager, Stephen, was exceptional and his convivial manner was delightful. We certainly were not expecting the standard to be so high so this will now be on our list of "Must return"

I visited Gravesend for a family event and we had lunch at the Clarendon on the bank holiday Monday. The food and service were excellent, especially the food, cod cheeks to start and pork tenderloin for the main. Well worth visiting, not the cheapest food in Gravesend but well worth the money.

Dined here for a Birthday lunch. The food was delicious & nothing was too much effort for the staff they were very attentive. They had guests coming to book in as we were eating & telephone enquiries so seem a very popular hotel. I would recommend the restaurant. Even though I have not stayed here I would recommend the hotel accomodation based purely on the service I received, 5*'s.

We recently stayed at the Clarendon hotel we where met by great staff and a lovely hotel overlooking the Thames . We also ate in the restaurant, evening meal and breakfast and have to say superb we enjoyed a really good ribeye steak and the following morning a delicious full English breakfast .We would definitely stay again.

Hotel room was nice with a view of the harbour. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was Aldo a good size, my partner loved how deep the baths were.

The food was the most amazing meal I've had for a long time - so flavorsome! We dined early so had the restaurant to ourselves and it was a lovely atmosphere, very classy. The staff were attentive and the 50% off voucher we had meant it was amazing value for money. I'd definitely go back, with or without the voucher. Well done!

Had the most fantastic fresh fish, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. A very pleasant evening and good service
