The Windmill, Tabley in Cheshire East

The menu has changed drastically since we last visited during lockdown. It has reduced significantly. However the real reason for my low score was that I was supposed to be meeting a friend there for dinner on a Monday evening. When I phoned to confirm the booking, I was told they weren't doing food that evening. However I struggled to contact my friend, so decided the best course of action was to wait in the carpark to let them know we had to go elsewhere. After 20 minutes, I figured my friend had got the message, so I left. 15 days later, I get a £100 parking charge for my 22 minutes. If there were signs, they weren't obvious in the dark. Needless to say I won't return to the Windmill. Ever.

The Windmill kindly accommodated my group of 12 for a late booking. We were shown to a very nice room with a table to accommodate us all for dining. The meal was fantastic and the service was excellent. I shall ensure we visit again. Great food, great service, and a very warm welcome. Tim.

Nice litte pub good food and friendly staff

Absolutely fantastic place. Kelly was super friendly and so welcoming. First time we've visited and would definitely go again. Beautiful pub with gorgeous deco. Parking 100% not as issue. You just have to put your reg in the tablet on arrival, I have to do this at my Aldi so really not a problem. Food was fast, hot and delicious. One of the best pubs I've visited in a while.

I was in the area looking for lunch and naturally turned to TA to find me somewhere. I was going to eat at this place, however saw the horrendous problems people were having with parking, and the nonchalant attitude the staff have toward real customer’s concerns, so decided to avoid. I instead found a fabulous Country Inn called the “Jolly Thresher” at Lymm a few miles away, free parking, great food, and no parking fines to worry about.

Me and my girlfriend went here after a walk in tatton park. All of the staff were brilliant as was the food! A fantastic pub and will definitely be returning next time we’re in the area. Thanks again for the great and friendly service 👍🏼

Lovely night stay before our flight, good banter with the staff, but kelly sorry still dont believe you 😃..had a meal and was very nice, car park EASY to do just tap your details on the screen as you enter the bar 😊 , deffo come again when flying from Manchester

Nipped off the M6 for fuel and spotted the pub for an evening meal while heading south...... so glad we did! What a little Gem! Recommend the Lasagne (lovely homemade) and roast dinner (big plate of Turkey and all the Trimmings!) Excellent food, lovely welcoming staff, definitely will call again when passing👌

Wow, we booked for Christmas day and wouldn't go anywhere else now. The food was amazing and in abundance and the staff were incredible. It was a 4 course meal and it was hot, delicious and I cant believe how much we got. The chef was super friendly and the table looked amazing. There was no time restriction as the tables were ours from noon until 6pm when they closed. My family were super reluctant to eat out but we have all agreed we wouldn't go anywhere else from now on. Thank you so much for Kelly and Paul who were so attentive and fabulous hosts. 10/10 from all 12 of us xx

A gem of a find, from the moment you walk in your nostrils twitch to the beautiful aroma of scented candles giving a feeling of relaxation. Sunday lunch carvery was amazing. The rooms are beautifully clean with everything that you need within them. Only 6 miles from Manchester airport.

Great pub, very friendly staff. Nothing is too much bother. Very central location, great for site seeing. The food is amazing, especially the carvery. Proper roast potatoes, not the soggy sort from other carvery’s. The room was comfortable and warm. I will definitely be going back.

We haven't stopped in a room but visited on the way to a Christmas lights show. The decor is lovely the staff were wonderful and even started food early so we could eat and leave in time for the show will definitely visit again and recommend to family that visit as the rooms look lovely

My husband and I recently stayed here for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding nearby. On booking I was contacted by Kelly to double check our check in time. From the start we were given a very warm welcome and her and Paul couldn’t have done enough to make our stay comfortable. Yes, the Inn is just off the motorway so there was some noise but it really wasn’t bad (we live on a busy road so we are used to this), and the room was basic but clean and had everything we needed. I am confused by negative reviews on here as this accommodation is great value for money, the pub food is tasty, and the staff are wonderful! If we ever need to visit the area again we will definitely stay here. Thankyou for being so kind and accommodating :)

We have been experiencing the hospitality at The Windmill for over 18 months of using the Function room weekly. We have just spent 3 nights at the Windmill. Our room was great. Homely, spacious with a full bathroom. I can't wait to go back. Perfect for times in our circumstances when comfortable accommodation away from home is needed for days or weeks on end. - Previously - Warm welcome and great atmosphere for our weekly chair fitness class in the cosy function room. All areas accessible.

A perfect place to stop on way south from Scotland. Really handy for the M6 motorway. The room looked to be mid renovation as the carpet was new as was the furniture. A great bed and well heated. The bathroom was still to be done up as its was a bit tired looking. The food was excellent and the staff were very pleasant.

Five of us came here for lovely evening Sunday roast meal. Superb and friendly service from Kelly and Julie. Excellent value for money and great atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back. PS. Don't forget to put your car registration into the screen at the bar.

We've just got back from a lovely stay here and i must say i was very impressed. The owners were very welcoming and kind and the staff were all lovely. The place was beautiful, it felt like a home away from home. The room was clean and spacious with a large comfy bed and plenty of room and storage. We had some lovely meals in the evening in the pub area which felt very homely. It was a decent price and very tasty. I honestly would recommend this place to anyone, and i certainly hope we will be coming back again! I miss it already, thank you!

Popped in for a bite to eat and to avoid the motorway traffic on a Friday evening with my partner and baby son. The two members of staff could not be more friendly or helpful enough, really great! The place itself immaculately clean. Food was great value , tasty and well presented. We will be back

Been dropping off at this place for a few years now after fishing new owners very friendly and barstaff food smelt nice but haven't dined there

The windmill Well what can I say other than hosts amazing party venue and rooms second to none Sunday dinner incredible value for money And Friday nights fish and chips amazing All in all definitely worth many many visits Fantastic couple and really changed this place for the better One last thing special menu nights and days beautiful kel goes out of her way to make it so special 5 stars all the way ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kelly and Paul the owners could not be more helpful and welcoming to there lovely establishment, the food was way above what we expected and we will most definitely be coming back just to see the fantastic owners again !!

Had a 2 night stay here and couldn’t fault 1 thing, Kelly and Paul were fantastic hosts and the rooms were lovely and clean I will definitely be booking again

Great food great service friendly staff

the room was musty, the TV didn't work, if we opened the window we could hear all the cars driving past as the room was facing the road, the mattress had springs that you could feel digging in, the bathroom door was all chipped. We didn't pay much for the room but it doesn't justify the poor conditions of it. At least change the mattress and areate the room. We had a drink but there was a poor selection of beers and those available weren't great. I didn't even drink mine, it tasted awful. Such a bad experience.

Went for a drink, was never told about the car park charge - phoned and they said that I would have been told - well I definitely wasn’t! Human error I guess but now I’ve got to pay £60 fine because of their mistake. No offer to pay the fine for me even though they messed up - Total rip off - would leave no stars if I could!

Rude staff. Food not too nice. But for the price you can't complain really.

Kel and Paul are salt of the earth, great set up they’ve got. Great food, great variety of beers and great company.

Sunday 26th May 2024 We experienced this under different management and the pub had developed a bad reputation for poor service, poor management and poor food….. we last came to this venue about 4 years ago and thought we would try this again to see if anything had changed…. EVERYTHING HAS AND WHAT A HUGE POSITIVE DIFFERENCE FROM THE MINUTE YOU ENTER THE PUB. We were greeted by the landlords (Kelly & Paul) and they were warm, friendly and welcoming. Couldn’t fault the service. We decided to try the food and we were not disappointed. They had a lovely carvery on and well presented and lots of options. GAME CHANGER in lots of ways and will start using this as our local. Pool table and dart board and need local people to support this venue. Kelly and Paul have turned this around, massive change, great pub with great personality and well worth a visit.

Perfect, welcoming, clean, tidy, VERY friendly. Just off M6 Knutsford Juction, ideal stop, excellent room & continental breakfast. We were going to Peter Kay Do at Coop Live from Somerset, so this ideal location. Could have had evening meal. Large car park, opposite convenient petrol station, petrol cheaper than ASDA in outskirts of Manchester

My wife got a flat tyre and pulled into the Windmill's car park and was so glad she did as she was helped by the super helpful friendly staff, l arrived a while later and we couldn't sort out the flat tyre so called the breakdown service and went for a drink in the pub which was worth it and again what a lovely friendly bunch 😁 with great beers and a tea for my wife and the food looked and smelt fantastic. We will return as soon as we can and thanks to the Windmill for your help it was very much appreciated 😁

Stayed in this hotel / pub whilst working away the staff couldn't do enough to help me & my team the rooms are well prepaird & parking was free..... we stayed for over a week & we had the Sunday carvery WOW the chef certainly knows how to cook mouthwatering & reasonable price can't wait to go back next week ✌️👌 we'll done to you & your team.

I wont lie, we were dubious and did not have high hopes because the price was so reasonable... But we were very pleasantly surprised to find the room was huge, big corner shower in the en-suite, all the usual brew station etc. Cant fault it, staff were canny, if there was an option to upgrade the included breakfast to a full english I'd have been all over that. We will be back!

Visited as a family and were welcomed with a smile. First time in a long time (in a pub) that our meal was cooked from scratch. Home-made chips were amazing. These were literally 'hand cut' and not frozen powdery rubbish. Paul chatted and joked with us as if we were regulars. We are going back soon without a doubt.

Drove by many times saying will call in and finally did it yesterday. Just had a drink but its actually a lovely pub inside and a really friendly and polite lady behind the bar. Will go back again and try food

Had a wonderful home cooked Sunday lunch today for 5 of us, really tasty and served quickly. The staff here are friendly, food is great and the price is really reasonable when so many places are expensive. We will be back again.

Unexpected pleasure! We wanted somewhere to meet pub for a pre-Christmas family meet up (it was a nice 1/2 way spot between the Midlands and Yorkshire) Lovely pub and delicious food. Hosts were so friendly and accommodating and made us feel welcome from the start.

We won a competition on FB for a Christmas package. The ambience is great, the food was amazing and the service was fantastic. We will definitely be back soon!

Great meeting place rather than the motorway services

Called in on a whim and just as the carvery was about to end. The staff could not do enough for us. They rustled up a vegetarian nut roast for my wife and vegetarian roast potatoes and gravy so we all enjoyed a fabulous carvery. The pub itself has so much authentic character and the staff have such a welcoming can-do attitude.
