The customer and landlord very help full when I got a flat tyre on my van

Pint was a little off but that may of been because it was first one off the pump that day. Nice place and staff were friendly enough. The seating area to the front of pub was a bit cramped but it was a suntrap. Will most probably go in again but not that early.

Not been in for a while. Left area. But didn't disappoint great friendly service. And lucky me the Guinness was on promotion.

I am 75,and last night I was going to the sefton pub then onto the Palace for an Indian meal,,my mate dave, allan and john,,was picking me up in the windle carpark,dave and Allan I have known since I was 15,john I have known for 3 years,,,,before he picked me up,,I knocked on the windle's pub door,manager came to the window I asked him could I leave my car on the carpark while I went for a meal with my friends,,he said no problem whatsoever,I thanked him top guy,,,meal was good too,,we all had a good time,,kevin kerr

Had Sunday lunch today, the food was good, well cooked and plenty of it. Waited 50 minutes for it to served after ordering, was 1 person ordered before us and he received his about 30 minutes earlier than us, was a long time to wait. Only chicken or gammon available today, although there was more on the menu. It was £11 95 for 1 course, £14 95 for 2 courses and £19 95 for 3 which is the most expensive in the area.

We went for Sunday lunch today. The food was good well cooked and plentiful, was £11 95 for 1 course, for 3 of us with a drink each it was £43 65. Only had a choice of chicken or gammon, we had the chicken. We waited about 50 minutes for the food to be served, which is a long time to wait.

We went on a Sunday and we were told that they only do Sunday dinners and they only have chicken or gammon and also ordered a dessert which we waited for ever and had to ask for the dessert again sorry but we won’t be going back

Been for Sunday Lunch today and had the best pub roast I’ve ever had 😋 food was amazing, 5 different vegetables as well as mash and roast, delicious gammon, huge portions. Great service. I will definitely be back.

Came in today on spec for a family meal for 8. Couldn’t have asked for better customer service. Friendly landlord who came over for a chat and the team made us welcome and made a fuss of the kids. Generous portions on nice pub grub that was reasonably priced. Will definitely be back. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

Went there yesterday ... just under new management lovely friendly landlords and landlady's....pub just taking off with big plans for the place in the future Andrew is a comical genius and you will not be dissapointed I will be going back... there are a few things they are improving on little fixes here and there but I'm sure they will get there as that's how they inherited the pub...they will be putting live acts on and had one on opening night where the place was packed ... we have bought our new year's eve tickets ready and cannot wait

Visited twice recently. Was hoping to eat (1.30pm ish) but food only being served after 4pm despite lunchtime menu boards in carpark. 2nd visit was weekend and we managed to get a light bite.

First time we have been to the windle for food since they changed the chef. The food was beautiful, we enjoyed every last bit of the food. Credit to the chef and we will be back for sure!

I enjoyed my meal here. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and the food was good for the price. Only negative was that a significant amount of the menu was not available- but the staff were apologetic and accommodating. I would return!

We visited the windle recently at the end of February. There was a lot on the menu that was unavailable due to a problem with the delivery which happens but my reason for not giving 5 stars is due to the fact that some things we weren't told about until we had already ordered. Some meals came without things such as no onion rings and when people asked about them they said they had none left. The waitress was so nice and we felt bad on her and completely understood but might be worth just popping it down before people order as to what isn't available so people can have the choice around meals. I ordered a peppercorn sauce and had to ask for it and still waited a good while to the point I had to just eat without it as food was getting cold. All in all it was lovely and I would definitely go back. Food was tasty and well cooked and I feel bad putting 4 but this was only for the absence of a lot of food items, some we weren't aware of till food came and the fact that sauce didn't come out and most people had finished theirs before it came out. I had steak and opted for it not to come out on stoneplate as didn't fancy cooking it myself and this was no i problem - it was well cooked and I enjoyed it 😀 nice to have the option as think nice to be able to cook steak yourself...although not for me x

Had a fabulous meal this afternoon the food was superb the service was helpful and attentive could not fault! Am so happy to have found this place to enjoy a meal in future xxx

Well what can I say. I never write a bad review. If not up to standard, I just don't go back again but today was terrible customer service. Booked at teatime today, and ordered food, cheese burger and chips and sea bass with vegetables. Arrived promptly, burger and chips were OK , but the sea bass smelt really strong and tasted sour.. It was definitely off. Waited a while to see if any one came to ask how it was, but no one came back. I quietly went to the bar and told a member of staff that there was a problem and someone came to take my plate away. That was it!! Sat there for a further 10 mins, no one arrived to apologise or offer alternative. Another 5 mins wait, no staff or manager came to the table. In the mean time my daughter had nearly finished her meal. In the end gave up and had had to go back to the bar, in order to ask for a refund Luke warm apology seems like new young staff working there, no manager in sight. Or if he or she was, they didn't present themselves. Apparently was told chef had left in the middle of the night. Not sure who cooked the meal but obviously someone with no sense of smell. Refund given with difficulty . That was it. Left hungry. Menu was also very basic with not a great deal of choice. It's such a shame as went every week a few years ago and the food was delicious. Unfortunately based on this experience, it's put me off going for a meal there again.

A fair and honest review.... The sign outside says Under New Management ... The pub itself was welcoming as was the Bar Staff We had Sunday Roast - presentation was OK . The beef was lovely as was the veg. The roast potatoes was slightly undercooked and the gravy to thin for my personal liking. The Yorkies was nice. Price wise wasn't too bad but I have had better for less ££'s I'll give it a few months before I venture back again but I will try here again ....

Xmas eve family meal. Lovely food Slow service Good value We used to be regulars until constant management changes. Needs some leadership. We tried to book further into the holiday week and were told they weren't doing food for a few days. Confusing.

Ok so tonight we tried a different eating place, will we go again? No! Food was lovely don't get me wrong and a good deal at £30 for two of us including a bottle of wine (sauce never arrived) The 40 minute wait was a bit too much, and then when I asked where our food was the poor young waitress was sent to advise that the order hadn't gone through to the kitchen and offered us a free drink ( unfortunately couldn't take it up due to driving).. There are a couple of other niggles ie a dog in our eating space and a sticky table and bar but we tried :-)

Booked a table for a family Birthday party everything was great we all had different meals I had fish it was lovely with homemade chips ,there food is great all homemade ,there was not a problem with anything just nice clean plates nothing left we all enjoyed the food × will be back soon thanks to the staff + Mel for a lovely Evening xx

After an unsettled couple of years and constant management changes, we stopped going in, but decided to call over for a couple of pints last night as heard it was under new management. Felt very welcoming and had a brief chat with the new landlord who was very pleasant. We aren't ones for eating out but they were serving food and it looked very nice. Good to have a catchup with some of the locals.

Today myself and family went the Windle. My boyfriend and son went approx 2 months ago (before change of ownership)& we were all surprised with how tasty the Sunday dinner was. So we decided to go today and let’s just say… shocking is an understatement. Firstly, we were given menu’s, to then be told only Sunday Roasts were available. The female member of staff seemed uninterested and like she had just woken up. We asked the price of the food to which she guessed because she wasn’t sure….. To then be told each meal was £4 more as per the new owners request. £12 adult and £8.50 kids…The food that came…. Was horrific, all frozen, a £3 Birdseye microwave dinner would of been a lot better… The ONLY positive was the lovely male member of staff, who apologised for the poor quality of food and in turn give us a round of drinks on the house, this was appreciated and he shouldn’t have to apologise for the shocking service and food we received.

Great local pub, Aaron the manager is fantastic and very friendly. Great service and choice of drinks/ food. Highly reccomend!

Been coming this pub for years and as always Dan is amazing as always but met the new guy aaron who is equally as amazing as he talks to the regulars and has a laugh and joke with them and seems to get on with the staff. So hopefully he is gonna be around much longer than the previous owners. Amazing this pubs starting to look in good hands !!

Regularly come for a drink after work or on the weekend, fantastic service with excellent food and drinks, very welcoming.

Ate here a few times since Molly & Tony took charge, can’t fault anything they’ve ever cooked as always good! Today though due to covid all that was available is Sunday roasts and unfortunately neither me or the better half fancied one albeit we were both hungry! Asked if we could have two beef and gravy butty’s and before we knew it they was on our table ready to eat and boy were they good 😋 These guys will do anything to keep customers happy, would recommend to everyone without any hesitation!

Went for Sunday lunch food was great but though the portions of mash and roast potatoes where very small ice cream scoop of mash potato and 2 roast potatoes just not enough in my view

Really friendly staff and tasty food with fair pricing and large portions of food. The only thing We didn’t like was the peppercorn sauce it was see through and didn’t taste very nice. It lacked cream and pepper in my opinion. But I will definitely be returning.

Haven't been in this pub much last few years as previous management had run it down. So was pleasantly surprise to find it busy and even said to owner that's it's better and wish them all the luck and hoped it carried on. Unbeknown to us, the owner decided we meant them! And wrote on Facebook lies what was said and how we are now barred. Encouraged the abuse via the comments. We was still in the pub!!! But barred via Facebook!!! And I'm so called barred from other local pubs? News to me. Said we didn't tip, lies, we tipped a £1 and change from other rounds of drinks we had. Even said goodnite and all was fine when we left. Til I was made aware of his facebook posts. Bang out of order and he knows it is lies. We praised the pub. Obviously they decided we wasnt welcome from the get go. Which is up to them, but with this attitude we wont be the only ones barred via Facebook. Gutless to be nice to our face at the time whilst writing lies and abuse on fb behind their backs. People, beware of this place. If it can happen to one it will happen to u. Bad attitude to do this. Not man enough to do it to the customers face at the time, even though the customer thought evrything was ok.

My wife and I have just eaten at the Windle Pub 2 steaks & a bottle of wine for under £25.00 - what a bargain The food was cooked to perfection - nice warm surroundings and attentive chef. Will be back Thanks.

I know that there have been lots of changes here recently but my goodness it is back to its glory days. I visited yesterday with friends and had the best lunch I have had in a long time! Chicken, bacon and black pudding salad followed by honeycombe cheesecake - absolutely delicious. Service at the table was brilliant. Definitely recommend

Consistently good food, really friendly staff and great value. Add to that free WiFi and a large car park and it’s a great choice for a business lunch.

Reserved a table on the recommendation of friends. Arrived on time and was seated at a very dirty table that had not been wiped down. Then told the usual menu not available only Sunday Dinners. Thought we would give it a try but wished we had not! Starters dire: Cold soggy Garlic Bread, Tasteless Chicken nuggets, and obviously not home made watery soup. Main meal even worse. After a long wait we had to go ask for it as nobody bothered to clear our table. cold soggy food swimming in some horrible brown gravy. We left most of it. On investigation later found out the old menu not available as the franchise has dropped them. Could have said that on the web site! Our friend who recommended the place apologized but it had been several months since their visit. True they could have been having a bad day, but we wont be back and neither will are friends. Just ruined what should have been a nice family meal out.

This pub is bad I was waiting for 1hour for my tea and one of my friend's had cheese burger and they had no cheese singles and just put grated cheese on the burger and they melted it and they don't have any dessert and the prices are so expensive don't go to this pub and the chips are descusting don't go to this pub

There was 9 of us we all ordered different meals the food was lovely portion size big and really good value for money the service was excellent will definitely be coming back

Nicest chips around. Popped in a few months back and swore I wouldn’t return, recently heard it’s under new management with new chefs so thought we’d give it a try. I got the mixed grill and the mrs got hunters chicken, couldn’t fault either, absolutely smashing. Well done to the new management and chefs

Keep going in there just because it's so close. In the middle of the afternoon it's a back street pub. The choice of the bitter is none existent. They can't even get a beer order correct. Perhaps that's because they haven't made enough money to pay for it. Staff are going weeks without being paid. They go through staff like there's no tomorrow. Be closed by Christmas at this rate. Do us all a favour and shut it down so we can start drinking in properly run pubs. It's an absolute disgrace, do yourself and your wallet a favour and give it a miss.

My husband and I visited the Windle on Sunday 20th October at around 3.30pm. As we entered the premises, the barman asked us if we were there for food, as they had none left. As we had only gone for a drink, this didn't really bother us, though I thought it was bad management to run out of food at that time on a Sunday afternoon.

I visited here with family on the day of the Grand Final. We arrived just after midday and was surprised to find that the pub was very quiet which always concerns me.

Premises clean and pleasant. Staff very very friendly and welcoming. Food amazing value for money on deals and chef certainly knows how to cook a steak. Also have elderflower cordial instead of just lime and blackcurrant. What more can I say. Great pub indeed

We went to this pub tonight to try the food as never bin before, the service was good the food not so good. We had tikka curry which was dry the rice was wet and slimy, no chutney, we also had beef barm with mushrooms which wasn’t cooked, won’t be eating there again

Popped in after seeing the advert for £5 fish and chips on a Friday, wow very nice and for the price can't go wrong I guess its cheaper than the chippy for a meal and much nicer will definitely be returning, maybe have to try mad monday!

I have been going to the Windle for a couple of years and have never had a bad meal. I went in for a meal last night and no booking required. It was reasonably empty compared to what I have known in the past. There is a new menu...no specials on. My son ordered fish and chips and no fish so had the chicken nuggets and he enjoyed them. My other son had lasagne and ate pretty much most of it. I had steak with pepper sauce. The pepper sauce came in a very small jug...much smaller than I have previously known so I was bit gutted as not enough sauce and for £1.50 felt there should have been more. My steak unfortunately was inedible as I could not chew through it. I have it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly but obviously the cut of meat. It is a sham as the chef is a credit ( been before new management with same ched) but smacks a little that new management are looking at reducing costs and thus potentially affecting the quality. My friend had sizzling platter of chicken and said it tasted cheap. Kids were happy but adults not so much. I was given a refund without hesitation for my meal as it was evident I had tried to eat it but without success. Guessing he was the manager and he was lovely. The young girl behind the bar is also a credit...so friendly. Didn't like the house white wine but this is personal choice. Chef came out and apologised about the steak - she is lovely. There is definitely potential as great staff with lovely chef but just needs to rethink the quality of food being served. This pub up until takeover was thriving so would be a shame to see it struggle. Thought needs to be given around what kind of pub it is going to be...live music on at 8 when going out for a meal is not to my taste....couldn't have conversation. Needs to focus on being somewhere to go for a meal or fun pub with grub style...one or the other for me.

Average food,landlord seems decent,barmaid miserable. Shame as such a lovely looking pub. Was brilliant until earlier this year,don’t think it’ll recover.

The Windle is in a prime location with no other rivals nearby but it just can't to seem to get it right. It's trying to be a local boozer as well as an upmarket type bar but seems to be neither. At over £4 a pint of Heineken I would be expecting more. Two redeeming features are the friendly barstaff and the outside seating area.

Went in on Saturday evening for one of my friends birthday pub empty. Have been a regular here for a number of years since Mandy left who was the manager of the pub it has gone downhill fast. We ended up going into St Helens town centre. The only good thing I can say was the barmaid very friendly and a good laugh with the few customers that were in. Can see this turning into flats or a Tesco one stop.

Gone from fresh to frozen food. I understand why because of temporary manager after temporary manager. What I don’t understand is the prices are the same as they were back in March when food was fantastic.

Party of 5 arrived Sunday afternoon for a meal. We were approached instantly before we had even managed to sit down properly and asked what we wanted to drink, which I thought was decent service. Ordered a round of drinks and started looking at the menu. The drinks came and then the waitress proceeded to tell us that there were ‘some’ items off the menu were not available. At this point she produced a list from her notepad, which was that long she had to leave it with us. There was around 40% of the menu unavailable. There was no mention of this when we walked in and were sitting down, we were only told once we had ordered a round of drinks.

Visited here on Sunday with the family, we haven’t been since the new management took over and all I can say is we won’t be visiting again. Where should I start ? Well the quality of food is shall we say cheap but the prices are the same, there is a very unwelcoming atmosphere from whom I think was the new management and the overall experience of Sunday lunch was awful. Will definitely not return until massive improvement’s are made from the management.

Visited last night and had a lovely meal. We both had chicken and steak strips with peppercorn sauce. The only downside was no cask ale on but had a nice pint of Shipmans Will visit again

We had never been but heard it was good. It was very good good was lovely with very generous portions. Staff was friendly and helpful. Lovely lunch time spent there. Will definately go back and would recommend to everyone.

Just had a Sunday roast and starters, all excellent, well cooked and hot. Staff are great, very attentive and polite. It is a little more expensive than similar but worth it for the quality of the food as it was all cooked from fresh and not frozen. Definitely going back.

What a fabulous way to kick off the Christmas festivities, with a works get together at The Windle. Christmas Menu Food was fabulous. We were offered a wide variety to choose from. Like the traditional Turkey Christmas Dinner, Salmon, Braised Steak, Chicken wrapped in Ham, and many other choices. We all ordered the 3 course meals which was a fabulous £17.95!!!

Nice imposing pub in what was once an iffy area. The pub is big and is clean, but it’s one of those pubs that’s trying to be something it’s not. To offer a basic menu and charge gastro pub prices while not delivering said food won’t work. Don’t get me wrong the food we ate wasn’t bad, just overpriced for what it was. A couple near us were overheard grumbling over the temperature of their starter and another couple sent food back due to being severely over seasoned, the lady had to ask for New cutlery for her replaces meal, they also commented it was the first and last visit they would be making.

2nd visit to to Windle great food lovely staff portions plentyful and food pipping hot 3rd visit already booked to try the Sunday Roast Proper chips homemade onion rings 😀😀👍👍

Went with friends for our Xmas afternoon lunch food was amazing I couldn't eat it all there was so much service was very poor it was very busy but overall it was very nice that was Sunday lunch with pigs in blankets

Booked for my wife’s birthday on a Saturday evening could not fault the meal or service I had the sirloin steak my wife had the gammon both meals cooked to perfection. Service absolutely brilliant would highly recommend 👍👍

we as a couple were recomended to visit this place we got there we were greeted and shown to a table where a plesant young lady took our drinks order her name is alisha she made us feel so welcome when then had plenty of time to study the menu and found what we wanted the prders were take and the starters came out which were spot ion well impressed then the mains came out very good presentaion and the food was excellent and my steak was cooked to perfection my wife was so impressed with hers she took the rest home the beer was spoted to and we have booked for the christmast menu so looking forward to it and would just like to say thanks for the lovely time and to be made must welcome by Amanda and her team alisha and the rest of her crew thank you highly recomened

Went to the windle for Sunday dinner and the pub was quite empty, me and my mum ordered a Sunday dinner and my partner ordered from the specials menu.

Visited with my partner for the first time since it's refurbishment and we were blown away. Ordered two mixed grills, which were huge, with peppercorn sauce, everything was spot on with a few criticisms. The broccoli and carrots were a bit dry and the peppercorn sauce could of been thicker, but they didn't matter because everything else was done to a tee. We are pleased about this as it's our local, so we'll definitely be returning!!

Visited twice in a matter of days because the food and service was that good!! On our first visit we ordered the sharing platter to start and salads for mains. Both lovely and good size portions. On the second we ordered the sunday roast. I have to say it was one of the nicest roast ive had. We will most certainly be back!!!

We visited as a group with our children and friends, all the adults ordered a Sunday roast - it was absolutely amazing, all home made - special mention for the Yorkshire pudding - it was delicious!! The kids ordered burgers/chicken strips with chips - the adults ended up eating their left overs too as it was so delicious! Thanks Mandy and Barry! We will definitely be returning! 5 star service!

We came 30/9/18 for Sunday dinner we phoned up and booked for a 12pm slot Service 10/10 ATMOSPHERE 10/10 QUALITY 10/10 it was a perfect afternoon the standard of the food was 5 star level all fresh all homemade all piping hot and the ladies serving could not do enough for you will defiantly be returning thank you

Alesha and Layla looked after us really well. Fantastic service and food, great staff , very clean tidy. Food absolutely delicious 😋 we chose from the light lunch and dinner menu which is from noon to 6.30pm. Great value for money

We spent the evening here for my daughters 21st birthday. There were 20 of us. The staff ensured we had a lovely time! Our meals were beautiful and all brought out together. They were so accommodating, friendly and professional. Would highly recommend them to anyone. Thank you for helping us to make some lovely memories! Xxx

Came to the windle as had nothing in and couldn't be bothered cooking , easy access and plenty parking so treated the kids and a good pal to Sunday roast the food was first class and staff are fabulous even offered to put a bouncy castle up to keep them entertained and run some steam off
