Caffe Nero in St. Helens

Love it so much, the staff are so lovely and friendly and the coffee is always great xx

Really disappointing experience! My server had a dog licking his hands. He did not wash his hands afterwards, brought me my food and when I mentioned to him that I would not eat it because his licked hands were on the plate, his response was " my hands are only touching the plate". At this point I was so surprised that he felt it was ok that he was giving me my food with dog slathered hands. I told him that it was not clean, that we don't know where the dog's mouth has been, and that I either wanted a refund or another sandwich. Eventually I received a refund as I'd lost my appetite. Are the employees here not taught about proper cleanliness and customer service? Very disappointing!!

We come to neros regularly for our coffee. Don't often buy food but sometimes we decide the cakes look too good and we get something. Coffee is very very nice and you can't moan at the cakes (although the prices for the cakes are a little on the higher side) service is always fantastic. Friendly staff and quick service. Pets also welcome which is really nice, but if you're not a dog lover then just know that there may be some here. I'm the middle of town centre so no parking at the actually coffee shop itself, but there is a multi-story just round the corner. Decent amount of seating, split between upstairs and downstairs and also outside.

Staff were very friendly, service was quick and the hot chocolate was as delicious as ever! My absolute favourite hot chocolates, I won't buy hot chocolate from any other big named coffee shops because they always have a hint of coffee taste to them and I can't stand coffee.

We always visited this shop when we come to St Helens. The staff were really friendly and professional. And of course the coffee is great. We've stopped going there because they now charge the full price of a pot of tea for a second tea bag.

Tried the pistachio oatmilk latte today, it was lovely. The staff are always so friendly. Well done 👏

Update. Went in on the 23/06/23 place was busy as usual but tables needed a clean and there was a dog sitting on a chair ( i am a dog lover/owner ) this should not be aloud.

Been coming here for years,it's dramatically gone down hill now the place needs a good clean dirty cups left on tables.Floor and tables grubby.The staff very slow can wait upto 15 minutes for a cuppa even on slack days.

I was served quickly even though there was a que had orange juice a egg sandwich and a blueberry cheesecake it was gorgeous

Don't be fooled by the overall 4 out of 5 rating for this place. The majority of the more recent reviews have been 1 out of 5, and it's easy to see why. Caffè Nero is personally my favourite high street coffee chain so it's sad to see the decline of this place, which has been fairly rapid over the past year or so. And the customer reviews back this up, as it used to regularly receive 4 and 5 star ratings. The place is becoming tatty, it's hard to say otherwise. One staff member wears baggy, grey jog bottoms and his appearance is quite scruffy, there's no two ways about it. In fact, there's quite a lackadaisical approach that seems to have filtered amongst most of the staff here. The place has become shabby, seats are filthy, stained and lodged with crumbs inbetween the cracks, tables take an eternity to be cleared especially upstairs where staff just walk past them, knotted bin bags at the back, mop buckets left out on the shop floor. I've had several drinks served in dirty mugs, stained on the inside. I really hope they address all the negative issues raised by recent reviews, as this place used to be the pick of the coffee shops in St Helens. However, customers vote with their feet where they choose to spend their money, which has led to there being four separate Costas in the town. If you want a comparison visit the Caffè Nero in the Golden Square, Warrington, you'll be shocked. I popped in the other week, what a contrast! It's pristine, very clean and tidy, and the staff are fast, efficient, and friendly. Clearly being well led and working as a team, and taking pride in the premises. Come on St Helens Caffè Nero, get back to where you used to be, a genuine 5 star establishment that customers can see for themselves when they enter.

As a regular in this Nero, I have seen a few staff changed over the years, but it must be said that since Emma has taken over as store manager the store is impeccable. The service is fantastic, the shop is spotlessly clean and the coffee is perfect and beautifully made. She always makes an effort with the customers and gets to know all the regulars, and even if you're not a regular she does her best to make you feel welcome and have a pleasant experience and it would seem the same is rubbing off on the new recruits too which is good to see. Her and Lauren are a credit to the store and it's good to see fresh friendly faces behind the counter too and I look forward to getting to know these people too. I always look forward to my coffee here and will for years to come.

Some work could be done on the WiFi level provided. It is very slow.

Hot chocolate tasted nice but 20% of it was just foam in the bottom of my cup that I couldn't get as I had no spoon given to me. I was offered cream but declined. Not sure how it would have fitted in the cup. Interior looked a bit tired. Service was quick.

Really friendly staff, shops nice and warm. Chilled vibes. I went to the toilet though and they took my coffee! Other than that it was sound 👍

I absolutely love this cafe shop. The staff are always friendly, especially the women who is short with pink hair sometimes she is amazing. Love the drinks and the options around the different seasons. Always feel calm and relaxed.

Coffee is still OK, staff always polite and friendly, but the Muffins seem to have shrunk and are dry to the point of stale.

Stopped by for coffee and chose a tea cake to go with it. The service was slow and slapdash at best. We went outside were tables we not clean ( I used wipes to clean it). We sat drinking coffee waiting for teacakes. One server took the numbered block away. I continued to look inside cafe. One server was walking round drinking from a tumbler, one was by the coffee machine a third did nothing but chat. After 30mins we finished the coffee still no teacakes but as we had to leave we asked for money back only then did they offer to cook the teacakes that we had paid for 30 minutes before. The server did not know how to put cost on card and gave us cash back. This cafe was dirty, the service slow to none existent with staff that looked like hygiene training wouldn't go a miss. I would have given this lower than a 1 if I could. Would not recommend a visit.

Firstly I would like to say how friendly and efficient the staff are, the drinks taste lovely however I have to say that apart from guide dogs they shouldn't be allowed,it's just not very hygienic we're food and beverages are being prepared

After years of pleasant and nice service this particular branch is on a downward slope. There seems to be an attitude crept in among the staff and it seems to be stemming from the manageress. You can put one maybe two visits down to her having a bad day but when the scowling looks and eye rolls become more frequent you begin to take it personal. Slamming spoons onto the tray and purposely putting an obscene amount of cream on my drink was pettiest thing I’ve ever seen. But it seems recent reviews suggest it’s not us that has had issues. So there’s a problem somewhere. If she doesn’t like customers or money into the till then maybe she should consider a different career path.

Went into the cafe to get sugar for coffee about to be bought other friend had a coffee from a different place but only took 2 sugars because I was going to buy something workers started giving us glaring looks walks towards us raising her voice saying are we buying anything at this point I didn’t want to buy anything because the way we where greeted in a rude not well mannered way so I said not buying anything now and she continues to walk away saying “this is not a charity” all because we where getting sugar ready for are coffees and could not even get it at the end because we felt highly unwanted and uncomfortable.

It's ĺong been my favourite coffee shop in St Helens. Downstairs, you can watch the world go by. Upstairs, you can find a little peace.

Always busy , but staff friendly and efficient . Coffee is fab ! Sandwiches need more filling in them , compared to starbucks the filling is dire , but thats a Nero problem , not local to the staff .

If you want good coffee served by pretty people who take their barista job slightly too seriously, whilst watching the crazy world of St Helens pass by your eyes, all in a nice cosy warm glass fronted corner store, then this is the coffee shop for you. Nothing to fault and not only, hands down, THE best chain coffee shop in St Helens but one of the best in Europe I have been to. Bold statement I know but there it is.

The best ever machiato served at this branch

St Helens these days is a strange old place. Beggars and druggies parade up and down Church Street. However I can sit with my large skinny latte and have a read and forget about the council ruining the town. The staff are lovely and I have noticed they really help the elderly customers.

I absolutely love this place. The staff are awesome and very friendly. The coffee is delicious and the staff are very knowledgeable on their vegan products.

Only 1 member of staff on, to deal with both customers, and deliveries, ending with a sizable queue forming whilst people waited to be served.

I go to Cafe Nero coffee shops wherever I am.i prefer them over Starbucks and Costa Coffee This particular branch in St Helens is the worst I have been in ! We don't go to St Helens very often but the other week myself and a group of women called in , it was busy and we were served by two lovely girls blonde and one slightly darker. banter and smiles from them and excellent service considering they were so busy. So Today I had to go the bank and called in with my Husband.The place wasn't busy at all. plenty of chairs about and that is when I noticed how dirty they all are. I noticed the dirt under the tables too. which made me notice what I would call grime around skirting boards one chair was Leather and I tryed to pick the seat up to clean it bit it was attached to the chair. ibrolted the chair up and there was alot of small crumbs in the stitches ridge part . looked like a collection of crumbs that hadnt been cleaned for a while. The other chair was disgraceful and shouldn't of been om display or used. The material was ripped all around the back exposing the sponge underneath, not very hygienic at all! considering allthe crumbs from the first chair imagining how bad it was underneath to be honest I just wanted a drink. As I was swapping the chair I politely informed a woman server behind the till ( the table I was sitting at was right by the till ) about the chairs. I said excuse me this I'm pointing out this chair it has sponge exposed and badly ripped . she was very stern and dsodbinfrony of other customers why was I telling her it's not her problem. I was astounded and told her I didn't say she had broken it. I'm pointing out the chair is terrible and it shouldn't be out. again she said why are you talking to me, i didn't break, you are looking at me and talking to me as if had done it! Wow !! so of course I said I haven't made it personal she said some other words . to me also and I asked for the manager. she smirked and said she was the manager. I said is that why you think you can speak to people however you want and she smirked and nodded. she then said leave....I took pics of some dirt and the chair. she was completely antagonistic and I told her so ( unlike me ) I was already leaving and she came from behind counter once again being antagonistic this was after my husband had said I'm it defence I was only pointing out a chair not fit for an establishment like cafe Nero. she then threatened me with Police. first of all I'm not a yob and secondly I am not easily intimidated by threats especially from someone who has no justification except the power trip of being a manager. it said it all when she smirked. she is not fit to manage.she has no custom service skills whatsoever. very hostile and antagonistic. she clearly can't manage the place or is not bothered. it's a shame as every other cafe Nero I have been in I have never had a problem. I have put some pictures on here. brushed up grime against floor divider . flight skirting boards. chair and floors and nobody wants to look at a build up of rubbish. it wasn't end of day!

Recently started visiting this coffee shop. Mainly because of the lovely ambiance/ atmosphere and the wonderfully friendly manager. She (don't know her name) is so welcoming to all customers and knows her locals so well. Cheery, genuine and friendly yet not forced. Also fantastic salted caramel cheesecake and cappuccino cake.

Been here a few times. Nice relaxed atmosphere here and it’s comfortable and clean. The coffee is also also amazing. Service is also always on point.💫
