Came here tonight for my dad's birthday first time we tried here and it won't be the last. The food here is unreal. Olivia was so lovely and she was so pleasant and polite with us. The gentleman who owns was also really nice. We was recommend this place my friends and it did not disappoint. The food is all home made and fresh. Thank you my dad loved his birthday meal 😊.

Good home cooked food, lovely staff

My husband and myself came on 24th August 24 for the first time. We certainly wasn't disappointed the food was all cooked to perfection and plentiful. Staff were friendly, helpful and nothing was to much trouble. If you haven't been to this lovely place then go pay it a visit. We definitely will be returning. Thank you to all the wonderful staff.

Have not been for a long time ,the service was excellent and the waitress was very friendly,food was excellent ,will go again even if it was only for a drink ,a lovely pub.

Called in on the 9/8/24 very disappointing per sliced turkey on roast dinner used to make homemade chips that where excellent son ordered the cheeseburger came with frozen chips. I regularly call in at simms rd and over the last 2 years the food as slowly gone downhill I called in on the way back from shopping with my daughter in September 22 for Sunday roast and you couldn’t fault it absolutely gorgeous but since the kitchens closed due to fire they must have changed chef as the food is not the same standard as it was before I don’t like leaving reviews but when your paying you want good quality do your self’s a favour simms rd and get the cook back that was there in 2022 and start serving good food again

The landlord was a lovely friendly guy,very welcoming. Food was lovely and plenty of it. Being midweek it was quiet but that suited us.

Decided to visit "Simms" as been a long while. Friendly Bar manager, but the food I am afraid was far from what we expected. As previous comment the food seemed not to be home cooked but microwaved. Drinks ok but wont go back, better pub food in the area [sorry]

Absolutely fantastic food and service is fantastic. Very welcoming as walk through door. It's best to book a table before going to Sims road pub . Will be going back

Service was lovely food very poor. For a start it was way too hot which tells me it's been microwaved, chips where soggy and greasy, mash was tasteless, you did get a lot of food but couldn't eat it. Sorry will not be returning here.

I was a little let down tonight with the food standard felt like everything was microwaved the chips were hard inside the service was good and the staff was friendly enough but there was no atmosphere at all went for my husbands birthday and felt really let down

Walked over for a Sunday Lunch and wasn't disappointed. The wife had a dinner and I had the beef and ale pie. Both were outstanding (loads on the plate!!) The staff were polite, courteous and efficient. Cant really knock it at all. We will deffo return (following a 24 hour Fast)

I can't rate the food because I've not eaten here. However I love to have a pint here from time to time. Staff friendly and welcoming and there is always a cosy atmosphere. I enjoy a pub with a bit of character and Simms Road has that in spades.

Bar staff are really great. The food is brilliant home cooked food, just make sure you’re hungry before you go😉. Owner is now letting dogs into the bar area too so we will definitely be taking our dog with us next time.

This place has for many many years served the most fantastic Sunday roast. Everything is fresh, no frozen veg in sight. The portion size is excellent and they are more than happy to bring extra gravy should you want it. Staff are courteous and attentive. Lovely atmosphere, plenty of parking, great food at good prices, what more could you ask 😊

Hadn't been here for a while, so we decided to go for Sunday lunch. Bit disappointed as last time we went the food was really good. Yorkshire pudding wasn't good was dry and a little bit overdone, and the cabbage tasted raw. The girls serving were really professional, polite, and made sure people were being seen too. Hopefully, next time we go, it's a bit better. But well done, girls, for the service

Went yesterday evening as a family to celebrate 70th birthday,staff polite and good service, all meals cooked to order and all generous portions,we had lamb shank, braised steak, chicken chaussur, curry, all followed by choice of delicious dessert, won't need to eat next couple of days, price reasonable and comfortable atmosphere, will return and would recommend

Been tonight for first time service was excellent food was amazing we had Sunday roast & there wasn't one thing missing off it & then the puddings apple pie ,& custard delicious will definitely be back.

Me and my husband visited today, the pub was quiet when we arrived, which made us a bit nervous, (never a good sign) however a few customers followed us in. The service was second to none and the food was outstanding, home cooked to perfection. We will defo be revisiting v soon, we thought very good value for excellent food.

Sunday 5pm ish and not many people in eating most watching football. Met at bar with you should really book on a Sunday? The place was quiet from us going in to us leaving so not sure why this was said? Old building in need of some tlc, curtains falling off the rail, wall behind tv needs filling in/painting. Food was ok.

Food was excellent but the pub desperately needs a re-furb. We where seated on table number 12 in the corner. The upholstery was worn & cracked & there was a faint musty smell. Also cobwebs around the ceiling. Service was poor, waited a long time to order& the second drink did not arrive before we finished our meal, apparently the barrel needed changing but would have been nice to be told this. We cancelled this drink as we where ready to leave. Would not return. Food was good but not cheap, if we are paying these prices would sooner eat in a clean & updated pub/restaurant!

Avoid at all costs. Food took so long to arrive that we had to cancel orders for some of our party who did not have time to wait. Staff attempted to charge other members of the party for the cancelled items that were never delivered to the table. The food that did arrive was undercooked and largely inedible.

Lovely beer, nice food, good company ... excellent afternoon.

The lamb shank is beautiful, you would have to go miles to find a lamb shank this good. The staff are friendly, and the pub overall is a warm and cozy place.

Went in on way home from work, never tried the food but the smells coming from the kitchen where tantalising I'm not gonna lie. Will deffo be going back to try their food. The pint was delightful and extremely well priced. Will go back again for sure.

New Chef!! Went to try new dishes by new chef Andy snd Ste and wasn't dissapointed. 3 of us loved our meals, freshly cooked and very tasty. They are only doing a few specials at the minute but new full menu to come.... Service as always fab and friendly. Lovely atmosphere in pub as well with seperate dining in the conservatory. There is a nice quiet beer garden and lots of parking. They do a quiz weds and have live sports on in pub area with TNT and Sky Sports. Will def go back and try their Sunday Lunches. 💛

Called in this pub for lunch just to see what it was like as my son has started going to the quiz night. Absolutely lovely. Clean, exceptional food and ladies who were serving were welcoming, very please nt and attentive. Will definitely go again.

First visit and found it very welcoming, excellent menu choice with more than generous portions, had starters,mains we couldn't finish and had to miss out on dessert as too full,all staff great service will return,highly recommend a visit.

Only stopped for a couple of pints whilst on a walk with the dog, so can't really give a comprehensive review. Also kitchen still being refurbished. Pub seemed OK, beer garden nice. Will revisit when up and running.

Nice food, friendly service. Shows kickball on the TV screens if you like that sort of thing. Not too loud though, if you've no interest you can easily ignore it.

Had an absolute lovely meal here recently after work with the wife and newborn. I had the gammon which was really lovely and a great portion and the wife had fish and chips. The fish was massive and well worth the value. Definitely recommend.

We had the fish and chips, have to honestly say it was the best I have had and a massive piece of cod perfectly cooked and the hand cut chips were to die for, proper authentic pub food a real throw back to the 70s. Fantastic place for a meal

We went for tea time and what a surprise, I had the biggest best tasting fish and chips since the 1970's, it was cooked to perfection and the hand cut chips were fantastic. I can't wait to try other items off the menu.

Three of us had lunch here today and it was fabulous. Chicken goujons to start, really tasty with lovely fresh salad and sweet chilli sauce. 2 of us had the chicken jalfreizi coz we love spicy food and it was gorgeous, with perfect chips(like Mum used to make) and pilau rice. The beef and Stilton pie must have also been amazing as there was nothing left! Lovely wine and excellent service. Thank you so much to the staff and cooks. Looking forward to sitting out sometime soon as the garden area was looking great too.

Food is served hot. Choice is good. Do smaller portions. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere. Inside needs a lick of paint and de cluttering with ornaments etc. But it is clean. I will be going back.

My sister and I are making this one of regular meet up pubs. No hesitation in recommending to others

Real old school pub, the food was genuine home cooking style, but also home style generous portions. Good honest and filling food at a very reasonable price.

Simms Road Inn is a country pub that is just a few minutes drive away from Wigan or St Helens. I say "country pub", it has the feel of one (such as you might find in The Peak District or The Lakes) but is just really an old fashioned pub sadly, of which, very few exist in the towns and cities of England anymore. Anyway, was greeted by lovely staff who were all attentive and all controlled on the shop floor by Ste....who truly is a larger than life character....jokey, gregarious, moderately non-PC and knows everyone's business....a breath of fresh air in this "can't say that in case I offend someone" world we seem to be living in. And so to the food....the pie pastry is the best I have ever tasted (and I have eaten a lot of pies) and the chips were spot on, chunky and crispy like my dad used to make in the 80s.....but the ribs I ordered were just amazing, so much meat on them and they literally disintegrated on the tongue. I cannot describe how good they are so you just need to try them. The landlord (Andy, I think) appeared as I was paying the bill and I asked him about the ribs. Apparently they come from a farm down in Cambridgeshire....Peterborough specifically I think maybe. Anyway, he is so enthused about his food and the sources, everything from the best places he says....and I have no reason to doubt that. So to sum up, this food is what you will get in a posh country inn down in the Cotswolds charging £35 a meal...it is half the price here and better. Cannot fault this place....well I could, but I would be nit picking haha (more real ale please....there, I said it haha). If you are local you will know about it but if you are coming from outside and want a delicious country pub meal in a semi rural location (you can actually see the outlay of Manchester from the pub car park...is quite cool) then I don't think there is a better place in the whole area....and I have had a go at it too haha!!

Lasagne description boasted prime beef and a rich sauce, neither were in my meal. When they admitted all portions were like this I opted for fish and chips that arrived on my plate swimming in fat. What should've been lovely chunky chips were still frozen in the middle. Stay away!

Stopped in for a pint after a walk. Met with a friendly smile and good tunes. Nailed 1st pint. Ordered food, fish finger butty was great, chips were immense and salad top draw. Not from round that area but you should all drop by and enjoy it 👍🏻

Excellent food served by friendly staff. Just a pity they don't keep some bottles of darker ales for patrons ( like me ) who prefer them. Still don't miss this place for the food.

We went for Sunday tea. The food was nice but the service was a little slow. We got our drinks order as soon as we sat down but had to ask to order after waiting over 10 minutes. Then the food took nearly 40 minutes.

Friendly welcome, very good service and all the food was clearly home made! I had the chicken and ham pie which was very good and packed with both chicken and ham my wife had the steak and ale pie which she really enjoyed too. Both meals were generous and very reasonably priced too

Don't come here if you're not hungry as the food is DeeeeLish and BIG portions! Lovely welcome, coffee that's better than Megabucks or Costa Lotta and a lovely atmosphere. We loved our visit xx

Great food, excellent service. I ordered the gammon which was really good quality and cooked well. My husband had chilli which was packed full of chunks of tender beef. Excellent value too at less than £25 including drinks. Great mid week go to!

We stopped for lunch and wasn't disappointed, the menu had a great variety of food, all home cooked. The pub is old school which is amazing to see, cosy and inviting. Linda and the staff were attentive and very accommodating, we will definitely return when back in the area

Came for a lunchtime visit. Our first time visiting. Fish and chips were excellent, home cut cooked chips. Service/staff were really nice and friendly. Would recommend a visit.

A lovely little traditional pub. Lots of little side rooms if you want a quiet drink or just to be aware from the TV. Friendly locals happy to have a quick chat and joke. Lots of little trinkets and homely things around the pub that gives it a lovely atmosphere and ambience and the food was very reasonably priced and portions were quite large too. The lasagne was the best lasagne I've ever had and that includes exclusively Italian restaraunts staffed by generations of Italian chefs. I have no idea how they managed that. Plenty of on parking on the premises.

I took my elderly Mum for an early evening meal and it was really good. It's so hard to find a pub that actually does homemade food, it's usually the frozen rubbish at a pub chain. I had fish & chips with very lightly battered crispy fish. Mum had the beef & black pudding pie, wow!! the pie was massive with fabulous tender beef and gorgeous pastry. Served with homemade chips and 3 different vegetables. It certainly got the better of her but they offered for it to be taken away with us. Very friendly and great prices. Will definitely be going again soon.

This must be one of the only pubs in the area which actually offer homemade food. Others say they do but it's all frozen rubbish.. Me and a friend had a lamb roast dinner. We enjoyed it as it was nice. Things we would change - remove the mash and boiled potatoes and get lots of roast potatoes as it is a roast dinner. Mash and boildies don’t belong on a roast. Veg was nice. We would of loved stuffing on the lamb roast even though stuffing “doesnt’t go” on a lamb dinner haha. The lamb also needs to be proper lamb not the pre cooked/sliced stuff. Thats what we guessed it was at it was thin slices like sliced beef/ham from asda. We also only received 1/2 slices each which was very minimal as a bloke opposite ordered chicken and got a ton of it! Overall it was nice, maybe next time we will request our preferences!

Booked a table with no problem, got there was greeted by the barstaff ,very friendly took us to our table , took our drinks straight away, given menu's the list was endless, all our meals came together, I ordered the steak & ale pie omg so good ,the chips hmm plenty of veg & gravy ,the rest of my party finished there meals ,salmon ,roast etc ordered a dessert, lovely cherry bakewell spong ,,no rush to get us out ,got the bill said our goodbyes, would recommend this place to eat ,drink

Fantastic food, deffo be eating there again. I had the roast, wife had steak and ale pie, and son had sausage chips and beans. Everything was spot on, service great and very reasonable price 👍👍

great staff tasty food strange thing occured a bear yes a bear walked in and asked for a pint of lager was charged Five pound the manager tried to make small talk and said we do not get many bears in here to which the bear replied i am not surprised the price of a pint

Really good well done chef 👍 A refreshing change to have to wait a short while for your food to arrive. Tells me it's not a warm up but made from scratch.

Just returned from Sunday lunch at the Simms Road. Excellent hearty food that was well cooked and served by pleasant helpful staff. We ate at the Simms Road one evening a week or so ago and decided to return today for lunch. A variety of meats were available with appropriate accompaniments. Highly recommended for a good traditional lunch at a very fair price.

Just called in here for the first time while driving past. The staff was welcoming from first entrance and very helpful. The food was beautiful and defeated us all as the portions were massive, home cooked food at its best. We will definitely be calling again now we have found this place.
