Came for my birthday lunch. The pub itself has quite a large floor space so tables are not too close. The decor is typical country pub but with large windows the interior is well lit. The service is friendly and attentive, our server gave an explanation of some of this dishes which was welcome The food was quite exceptional, couldn't fault anything, ingredients were fresh and plentiful. My roast beef was cooked to perfection, the starters allowed the chef to demonstrate his skills. The chocolate dessert was an explosion of light, crumbly chocolate in the mouth. So rich and delicious. Given the quality of the food, the pricing was spot on. There are some great dining spots in rural Norfolk and the Wildebeest is one of them. We'll be back.

4 of us for lunch for a friend's birthday. We eat here from time to time with various people. The food was very good indeed. The mussels were delicious - the broth was made with nduja in it which was truly great. I have never finished mussels broth ever before, it was that good. Main course was pork collar which tasted nicely of chargrill, which was a good thing. Cheese to follow - quite a thin slice of Baron Bigod and some Binham Blue with cold refreshing red grapes, chutney and crackers. + taste and quality of food - service was a bit frosty - I really do not like having a service charge added to the bill. I find it rude and assuming. Let your customers decide how much tip they want to leave - they knew it was a birthday occasion; a lot of restaurants add a little something as a nod the the event - this would have been a nice touch

We have been exploring the local "tasting menus" on offer within a 25 mile radius and this was number 5. Two of the others have recently closed down which is unfortunate. The Wildebeest restaurant is bright and cheerful and it was heaving with diners. We were the only table having the tasting menu of 7 courses with wines. The variety of flavours and textures between both the courses and within the dishes was exemplary and the selection of wines enhanced the taste. The staff were cheerful and attentive and looked after us very well even though they were stretched. I need access for my walking frame and I was accommodated all the time. We will be back

This is our third trip to The Wildebeest, and it’s fantastic! Every time we’ve been there, we just want to go back day after day. The food is incredible - every mouthful is sublime. My partner had the monkfish, which is new on the menu - it was excellent. I had the venison (which is in season] and I believe it was the best I’ve ever had. Thank you so much Wildebeest for a Fantastic experience and a warm friendly welcome.

We went for the Taste of Norfolk Evening 6 course menu for my birthday and it was a lovely meal - We were so full! The meats were cooked to perfection and each dish was beautifully presented with attention to detail! The restaurant was busy and the car park was packed despite there being lots of parking spaces. Online booking was convenient and the toilets/surroundings were clean. The wooden tables were unique and added character to the interior design of the place. Service was great too, really welcoming and staff explained each dish to us. We were somehow the last table at the restaurant but we did not feel rushed at all and staff seemed patient enough to even serve me a birthday plate on top of our desserts. The main downfall for me was the dessert - the cherry souffle was soggy at the bottom but I loved the chocolate mousse. Also, some parts of the dishes were a hit and miss with me, e.g. goats curd and puffed rice, but that's just my personal preference. Regardless, we finished everything and I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

We had an excellent lunchtime taster menu with the accompanying wine flight. The food was cooked to perfection, the duck main was absolutely delicious. Service was fantastic too, really friendly and able to answer any questions about the menu. A little explanation of each wine pairing would have been nice, i.e. where it came from and why it was chosen to match the dish. It certainly didn't ruin our experience, but it would definitely have been a nice touch. Definitely recommend this place though!

We came for a mid week birthday lunch and ordered from the set menu of the day which was amazing! Great value for money, everything is cooked to perfection, the flavours and presentation were fantastic. It is possible to mix and match the set menu with the Al a carte menu which I thought was very good. The complimentary freshly cooked bread rolls & humous was very much appreciated too. The staff were all very helpful and explained the menu well. I tried a couple of Proseccos, which were both great, one was the flint rose. I can’t remember the other. There was 3 of us, myself and 2 close friends, one of which had never been before and non of us were disappointed. From start to finish it was excellent. The young lady serving us was very pleasant and polite, and took pur orders very well. Food wise I had the unbelievable artichoke starter which was divine, followed by the beef fillet with a smoked beetroot gel which was just as beautiful on the palate, if I was to be a tad picky the searing on the beef was slightly over but that is being very very picky as it was beautiful and tender and a perfectly balanced dish. To finish again an insanely nice passion fruit souffle with creme anglais. WOW . Being a patisserie chef of 15 years I know the skill it takes to get them perfect, perfect they were. This is a favourite of ours. We have eaten here for many years, mostly very good. Occasionally there has been something a little adrift for our liking but our last visit was hugely disappointing to the extent that I doubt we will return. We chose from the à la carte menu. We had asparagus with crumb starter and asked for truffle as an addition. It arrived and no truffle which was disappointing but the rest of the dish was unremarkable. The main course was fish with a champagne veloute and we asked for the fish to be very lightly cooked. We did not want the skin brown and crusty. It arrived very brown and crusty. The restaurant manager said he would get it recooked ,which he did, but the chef could be heard stating that he had cooked it the correct way. We decided to give up at this point and asked for coffee. Whilst this was being prepared my husband saw the waitress wiping the cup rims with a dishcloth. The coffee was very bitter and we didn’t drink it all. I understand that staffing is very difficult at the present time and would like not to feel so terribly disappointed but it really was very poor. It was also very difficult to enjoy time in the restaurant when towards the end of service the kitchen staff were having a very loud conversation when the pressure of service lessened. We paid over £90.00 for two courses, two coffees, none of which we enjoyed or would wish to recommend. We purchased a bottle of Muscadet sur Lie which we had tasted before and had a glass each with our lunch and took the bottle home to drink in the evening. It was lovely wine and thoroughly enjoyed but I do not need to visit The Wildebeest to purchase again. The restaurant manager was helpful and engaging but I am not sure that he can achieve very much more with the present employees.

Five of us dined here for a family reunion. The atmosphere and service was second to none. I will only comment on my meal although we were all 'blown away' by the quality of the food. I had no starter but as a main I had the 28 day chargrilled beef fillet medallions with mushrooms, leaves, chimichurri and leek ash and truffle fries. I must admit this was possibly one of the best meals out I have ever had. The beef was melt in the mouth and the chips were amazing - the overall flavours were incredible. I had the cheese for dessert which was very nice although a rather small portion. Our table also had mushroom parfait and ham hock terrine as starters, mains were Pan Seared Sea Bass Fillet, Montgomery Cheddar & Truffle Beignet and Roasted Chicken Breast. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Disappointed, decided to try menu du jour instead of a La carte which we usually have. (We have eaten here occasionally over 8 years). My husband’s food was ok, mine was totally tasteless. I had ham hock terrine to start with which was dry and tasteless accompanied by celeriac concoction which lacked crunch and flavour I asked for and added salt which livened up the chicken in the main course a tad. The veg in main course. Was shredded something which I was advised had leeks and courgette. I could not taste anything. Very disappointing won’t be going back.

After moving to the area last year, we have tried a number of local restaurants. while many concentrate on reasonable food at a reasonable price (hot food and plenty of it :-)) and i am not saying there is anything wrong with this, The Wildebeest has more to offer. we ate on a sunday, so limited to the sunday lunch menu, the offerings were well considered and very tasty. 2 courses for £20 or 3 for £30, so not cheap but very much worth it. we had the cromer crab and pan fried prawns then the roast pork and sea bass for mains. lemon mille-feuille and triple chocolate deserts. looking forward to returning to try the week day al la carte offerings soon. 19/6/24 - returned last week for a pre-fathers day dinner. four of us tried the al la carte. my wife and i had the crab for starters. it was good but both of us thought it over salted and at £20 each not good. i had the beef medallions for main. great meat, cooked to order (rare) with some very good accompaniments. in all a very good meal with some reasonable wine in very nice surroundings. However, i felt the pricing was OTT for the area and the quality of the food. similar offerings available at much better pricing in Norwich, these are London Michelin star restaurant prices.

I've been coming to the wildebeest for many years. This was the first time I was disappointed. The menu de jour lacked imagination and choice. A third of the courses were subject to surcharges (so not really a menu de jour) another third were veggie options, leaving good old, boring chicken breast as the only main meat option without surcharge. The menu de jour should be a way of tempting customers back with a genuine value for money offering. And when did the prices of a la carte options go through the roof? £20 for starters and £40 for mains! I'd recommend the chef take a visit to The Chequers at Hainford. Menu de jour there is imaginative, excellent value for money, great quality, and they have a decent selection of well kept real ale (not the single sad Wherry at Wilderbeest.) The place was busy enough, so as long as people are prepared to pay these crazy prices, nothing will change. Sadly won't be returning anytime soon.

Sadly the restaurant did not live up to the hype. Perhaps having had such a superb meal at Benedict’s in Norwich the previous weekend, we were underwhelmed by this local (for us) restaurant / pub. My wife and I returned for lunch following a lovely experience last year. Nibbles, starters and main courses all very nice. I ordered the soufflé for desert, however the waiter informed me that the chef had messed up the first attempt and was doing another, no problem. Soufflé finally arrived and looked a little ‘rustic’ compared to my previous experience, after cutting the top I could see straight away a scrambled egg mess underneath, clearly the second attempt had not gone well! I advised the waiter who didn’t seem to concerned, he did offer me another bit at this point I was passed wanting the soufflé. Dessert was removed from the bill obviously but did put a downer on the experience and for a restaurant boasting a high standard was very disappointing especially at the price point! Maybe just a bad day for the chef but concerned on other negative reviews, would make me think twice about returning unfortunately.

We came for lunch after our friends had booked a table for lunch. We all decided to have the 3-course Sunday lunch at @£38 each. However, the price increases at this point, so I decided to go for the StoneBass? with a £2 supplement for it. So I was expecting something quite special on the plate for my main dish. On arrival, the fish was very small (The size of half of small banana) and was lost on the bed of fricassee, courgette & Lime Sauce. An additional vegetable side was brought to the table and shared between the 2 of us. If you required more sides those were at extra cost. I found the fish quite tasteless. So considering my friends also paid the additional £6 supplement each for the Beef main courses. The £38 per person for Sunday lunch soon skyrockets. Overall the cost would have been more acceptable if for my part the main dish had flavour.

Instead of the rump main dish one of us decided to have the ribeye main instead and had to send it back as the meat was fatty and tough. When the replacement came the meat was still tough! WHAT IS THE CHEF PLAYING AT? Surely HE should be checking this meat when he purchases it from his supplier? For a £40 main dish this is absolutely ridiculous. The truffle fries were also nothing special, perhaps truffle infused mayo would have helped? The bakewell desert was a bit of a joke too, very basic and lacking creativity. Probably the 3rd or 4th time here. Starters were mushrooms and pigeon. The former was girolles and confit egg yolk, pickled mushrooms, herb crumb, mushroom and truffle veloutte. Yep, all of that and it was very good indded. The pigeon breast came with a micro-drumstick, rather cute like from a Flintstones Lego (geddit) set item. The breast was a bit tough and highly liverish. The drumstick was more novel decor than something to attempt eating (tough as boots). Stone Bass. With courgette and samphire fricassee, saffron cocotte potatoes and champagne sauce = 2 thumbs up, superb. Fillet of beef- Medium rare. Juicy steak. Could have used a steak knife as it was quite thick cut. Dauphinoise, beer braised shallots (juicy), nasturtium pesto, foraged mushrooms, black garlic + spinach + jus = very tasty. A whole vivid spectrum of flavour points = 2 thumbs up. Good efficient staff, most pleasant. Very ambitious and accomplished kitchen skills. Hat-tip to them. £135 lunch for two with a decent tip.

This was the nearest restaurant to the hotel we were staying at. We saw they had a good priced menu du jour and thought we’d try it out on the off chance. The food, the service, the ambience all far exceeded our expectations, it was all absolutely delicious, the waiter was attentive but not at all obtrusive. It was an excellent meal for a very good price, and if we lived nearer I’m sure we’d be regulars.

We have always loved this restaurant. And our most recent visit didn’t disappoint. Our Christmas treat… and what a treat it was. From start to finish, Outstanding food. Perfectly cooked, beautifully presented. Brilliant service. It’s not cheap… but in this case it’s well worth the money. Thank you for a lovely evening! we shall be booking again soon for my mums birthday.

The food here is consistently excellent. It is well-presented and delicious. The staff are lovely - friendly but professional. Great atmosphere. We were a large table (9 of us) but this didn't cause any problems and everything was fantastic. Our family (from out of the area) all thought the food was fab and we had a great evening. I'd always recommend the Wildebeest for a special meal.

A quiet and quaint restaurant with a delightful atmosphere. But the star of the show is the food, and I really must congratulate the kitchen, they actually put time thought and effort into their vegan menu, every bite was both delicious and beautifully presented.

There are three certainties about a visit to The Wildebeest in Stoke Holy Cross… you will not want to leave, you will want the recipes, and you will want to hurry back. From walking through the door in to the restaurant, the front of house team were fabulous, warm, cheerful, informative and massively professional. Not too inquisitive and certainly didn’t abandon us. A perfect balance of service despite the restaurant being very busy - with a lot of happy souls… The kitchen (well, there’s an understatement - the amazing team that puts incredible food as an experience on dishes is a bit nearer to the truth), performed miracles. I really wish they sold a book for the recipes! My amazing lady of 23 years and I loved the taster menu, and I had the wine flight (subtly delegating the art of a car journey home to my lady). We eagerly anticipated what to expect (we are foodies) and came home on a high. So, my advice is to book early but book book book, this is an experience for everyone to enjoy!

We have been here over the years, but it's always been OK but not the first choice. We just popped in for a light lunch of a couple of starters and had a brilliant time. The food was exquisite, and the service was amazing. The starters were £22 each, but I had a reasonable-sized bit of halibut, and my wife had four decent-sized scallops. Cant wait to come again for a whole meal and dam the £38 -45 main course prices.

Birthday lunch! We'd been here before so knew what to expect - very careful and professional service, very enjoyable food. Their bread is always delicious. We both had chicken with cabbage & chorizo in a mustard sauce, which was lovely. I had the blackberry and chocolate mousse which was decadent, and partner had a (very tart!) strawberry pannacotta. I did manage to obtain the free glass of wine that was part of a summer special offering to diners, but only after asking about it - which was a bit disappointing for such a fine-dining venue. If it's a standard offer, customers should be told about it and asked if they want to take advantage of it. However, didn't detract from enjoyment of a great meal.

We haven’t been to the Wilderbeest since the pandemic, just illness has forced us into shielding & we’d got a bit out of the habit of eating out. Visited Monday 6th with 3 girlfriends. I have to say everything was simply superb. Perfection. Having spent my working life behind a stove in heavy chefs whites, I so appreciated the attention to detail with every component of our meal. We had the menu of the day. Looks & taste were first class, I enjoyed every mouthful & can’t wait to return with my husband. Well done everyone at The Wilderbeest, you fully deserve your 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Just visited for the first time in quite a few years and was very impressed by the quality of the food served, the service and atmosphere. I tried the taster menu with the wine flight, both were stunning. Courses were well timed and staff very professional, knowledgeable of the dishes and friendly, highly recommend.

A really enjoyable lunch at the Wildebeest. We ordered from the menu du jour which was very reasonably priced - all the menu options sounded great. All the dishes we had were lovely - especially the cauliflower and truffle veloute. Service was friendly and efficient and the surroundings are really pleasant. Well worth a visit.

This was our first visit to The Wildebeest and we enjoyed our experience. We opted for the menu du jour which represented really good value for the quality of the ingredients and cooking. You could pay much more for a similar meal at some restaurants. The staff were friendly and welcoming, service was fast, and we left very full and satisfied.

Very good value for the level of produce and service . We have paid more locally for a Du Jour menu for a noticeably lower standard . We would highly recommend..10 out of 10 ... well done and well deserved recent accolades.

Having eaten at a few restaurants in the area I am surprised this place does not have a star or at least a bib. It is far better than a lot of the other ones we tried. Excellent service and wow the dishes we had were first class. I am sure it is not long. Nice little touches bread and potato chips with our drinks and chocolate and little cinnamon small donuts with our coffee. The dessert was amazing and my cod was cooked really well. There two or three course lunch special was well worth the drive over from our visit in Norwich. We will be back and will be watching for next years Michelin star announcements.

Splendid evening to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We opted for the 3 courses, the main was a little salty due to the chorizo and capers, we told our super efficient waitress and she shared our feedback with the chef. We got a complimentary strawberry sorbet, with mint and pistachio which was a lovely gesture and helped clear the palate. A wonderful evening thank you 😊

Cosy village pub just outside of Norwich. We had a Sunday roast and it was delicious. Although the apple crumble we got just after was bit of a disappointment. The waiters were overall really nice but the cashier was quite rude and acted like he saw an alien when we wanted to split the bill at the end. I am guessing it’s not a common practice! Overall would definitely visit again as it was a lovely atmosphere and good food.

What a little gem this is, fantastic pastries, cakes etc Coffees and much more. I had a breakfast sourdough ciabatta with sausage and egg which I highly recommend. Staff very friendly and the there is a nice outside sitting area too. Reasonably priced for the quality food. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting the area. Added bonus the lovely rivers walks are a minute away so you can walk that lovely breakfast etc off. Oops nearly forgot dog friendly too. Thanks for a lovely breakfast see you again soon.

I thought afternoon tea here would be something special to celebrate a birthday but unfortunately it wasn't. The table we were allocated was right next to the counter where people stood drinking, chatting and paying (I believe they might have been staff from the business centre). When I commented on this to a member of staff she said they would soon be gone, but then more came and stood there for some considerable time. The table was undecorated and the teapot and cups plain. One of the teaspoons was dirty and had to be replaced. There was nothing special about it whatsoever. It was just like being in a cafe which you go in for just a coffee. Not afternoon tea special at all. It was more expensive than many in the Norwich area so I thought the experience would be reflected in the price. But it clearly wasn't. The food was nice, nothing special, only 2 different filling in the sandwiches. The scones were good, the cakes ok, but again nothing special. The staff were busy but quite friendly. I would not recommend The Orangery for an afternoon tea experience. I came away feeling very let down and disappointed from what I thought was going to be an enjoyable afternoon.

I telephoned to check if dogs were welcome, and they were! We visited after a muddy trip to the woods. The staff were super accommodating and welcoming. The dog was provided with water and biscuits and we ordered the most delicious cakes, panini and hot chocolate. Unfortunately we did muddy up where we were sitting a bit but we were reassured this was absolutely not a problem. We will definitely be returning. Really lovely visit.
