Very nice pub and I always enjoy coming here for a catch up with a friend for food and drinks! Used to do the quizzes here years ago which was a lot of fun too. Probably one of the better pubs in the area as I can sit there for hours drinking with a mate and there's always never no issues and it just has a nice atmosphere no bother at all.

This is a decent pub and one of only a few in the centre of houghton. I've been in a few times lately for drinks, breakfast, lunch or dinner. The drinks are always good and food is ok, your normal wetherspoon fayre. Unfortunately it's the cleanliness of the pub that is a concern at the moment. Plates are left piled up for a long time without being collected after customers have eaten. Often if you find a free table it's got the remnants of other customers meals still on the table. Sometimes the table tops are wiped but there's a lot of debris under the table. I understand its harder to get staff nowadays in hospitality but there needs to be a lot more cleaning done in this bar. Also the coffee machine frequently runs out of milk and you have to search for staff to replenish it . Lastly the toilets frequently run out of toilet roll and aren't replaced

THERE WAS NO CHOCLATE SAUCE ON MY BROWNIE I am not okay this is not okay I’m on the verge of tears this isn’t acceptable at all

One of the best Wetherspoons I've been to. Easy access, totally disabled friendly. Good service from friendly staff.

Don't get me wrong it a great pub all of the staff are great except one thick doesn't come close twice in the last three month she has served me and twice she has getting it wrong trying to push doubles when ordering singles then putting wrong mixer in won't be letting her serve me again she is a liability to wetherspoons

We love the wild boar. Staff are soo lovely . This afternoon we enjoyed a cple of drinks before ordering an afternoon meal deal. We have enjoyed the fish and chips numerous times but this afternoon we were served a plate of batter with a miniscule amount of fish. Come on wetherspoons if fish is so xpensive take it off the menu

Steak a little chewy, burger was nice though and the fact that the plates were hot shows some good customer service also where were the mushrooms but the pepper sauce and blue cheese sauce were lovely will definitely be back

If you are too bored to cook they are ok. The service, quality and portions will be reflected in the price. Me personally I will not visit again, I prefer paying maybe a bit more but have a decent cup of coffe and food.

Had missed cheese on burger, when i disputed order was told I didn't order it, only when my guest and I were adamant we had paid for it, he went to ask kitchen and returned with cheese slice on ANOTHER plate. Within 5 minutes off eating was asked if we would leave at a certain time as he wanted our table for reserve, and again interrupted our meal to lay reserve cards out. I was meeting with a friend for lunch which is rare, and the whole scenario ruined our meal and experience.

Great people, we took a baby here who was quiet the whole time and when the workers and other people saw her they were all very friendly.

It's a witherspoon venue, so cheap drinks and food however very pleasant. Service was good.

It's has pleasant staff and great prices.

The final branch we visited this weekend. Definitely takes on a different demographic after around 19:00 on weekends (i.e. gets much louder!) We left soon after to drive back to Stockport. Nothing much to say other than it was very busy!

Nice pub prices great. Only issue couldn’t find a clear table had to pick a table that had not much on it. Eventually after we got drinks it was cleared

Been quite a few times and always enjoyed our meals until today I would never give back, oumrdered 2 burger meals for myself and husband and curry rice and chips for my grandson.i must say the place was buzzy but no excuse the meals came what was a dry bun with a grain and 2 greesy tasteless burgers in and blob of tomato sauce with a dozen half cooked frozen chips slung on plate, grandsons curry rice and chips with nann bread and poppadoms he said was just the worst, rice was clumped together curry had a skin on it poppadoms you could bend chips raw inside everything was left, terrible won't ever return and all the people I have told to visit this place will be warned not to bother,we left there and won't return. Forgot to mention I had to get bottle of mayonnaise as food was that dry and bottle was empty a managed to get one squeeze out of it.i wish I took more photos but my grandson just wanted to leave

cheap drinks and food free coffee refills. worth a visit

Went here for lunch, 1st time we had been in the Wild Boar. Not a great experience. Lots of local history displayed which i found interesting at the start, and the loos were looked after.. however it went downhill from there. We noticed the seating area was generally unkempt with dirty plates lying about, stains on the seating and not a very clean feeling, but we were hungry and wanted to give the place a chance so we ordered food. Problems at the bar: asked for a coke and a small wine, got given two wines, so a refund was needed as alcoholic drinks are a higher cost with the meals. 2nd problems, i requested two orders of garden peas with our meal, when it arrived it was with one mushy peas and one garden. When we informes the server of this we were met with quite a patronising and annoyed attitude, even being asked "well what would you like me to do?" We decided to keep the order as we were very hungry by this point, but when we opened the cutlery from the napkins they looked very unclean and one fork even looked like it had dried gravy on it. So we asked for a clean set at the bar. The server came over to apologise for all of the issues and we thought that was the end of it..... The food itself was ok but as i went to take a drink from my coca cola i noticed red lipstick around the rim of the glass so at this point I left the drink and we quickly finished our meal and left. Wouldn't return, far too much went wrong unfortunately.

Been a few months since ive been in here. Last time with the family there was a problem with a meal. Well its never changed. Aeven of use including children all had a neal with a drink. My daughters drink consisted of gin and lemonade which shehadto leave as it wasnt drinkable. Complained to staff but it was not exchanged. She then bought a jug cocktail with gin in and most of that got left. My wife had gammon and ja cket potato. However when it arrived the potato was cold. After informing same member of staff it was taken away and brought back later after been warmed up. I cannot see us going back in near future if this is the standard. Wetherspoons need to address issues like this or risk going under. We have had many ¹issues like t his in other of their resteraunts . Normally i would recomnend Wetherspoons brand but not on this showing.

The food order was wrong and when I asked them to put it right the peas still never arrived! The chicken was awful and gave me horrendous indigestion. 😢

My 1st visit and not the last.. Golf was off at Copt Hill so had I had a Large Breakfast with my playing partner.. This is one of the best 'Spoons I've visited and like all Wetherspoons offers great value for money. What gives this a 5* plus is the service from the staff and clean tables..First among equals for "Spoons" for great service & a delicious breakfast... Regards

Was looking forward to Eggs Benedict didn't have any so had bacon sandwich not very good.

Pleasant helpful staff at the bar. Sirloin steak nice but nothing else on plate other than chips. Alternatives salad only or jacket potato only. No condiments like salt or ketchup - just vinegar! If there were any must have been very well hidden.

Our usual wetherspoons in Chester le street was closed for food due to new kitchen being fitted,so we found this one we didn't know about. We were very pleasantly surprised!quaint little pub and when our breakfasts arrived first one with no bacon,then no extra mushrooms the duty manager was really helpful and couldn't have been more so. Highly recommended.

Outstanding customer service. The evening I visited with my family, they were currently sold out of deserts, my younger brother aged 11 was a little upset. To what I belive was the manager that night, the gentleman managed to get him a small pot ice cream and was very comforting, which is a very nice touch. This is public house has very friendly staff, definitely the best staff I met out of the franchise/chain of Wetherspoons.

Ordered the large breakfast. It’s always a sure sign the eggs are overdone when one is hidden under the other and sure enough it was cooked to death. Beans were dreadful, bacon thin and cheap. Who knows what’s happening to the coffee machine but the cappuccino had a nasty under taste to it. Can’t fault the staff or the premises- it’s the head office making poor choices that’s ruining the quality. Where are the Heinz beans, where is the danish bacon?

Typical Wetherspoons. Fire alarm went off so had to get out. Did not go back in.

Took grandkids ran out of crayons which they supply so kids could not colour in ..had Gourmet Steak me and daughter asked for medium well ..undercooked complained and they replied sorry..don't think I will be going back..

I travel here three time a month to have a excellent breakfast with old friends in a Nice friendly environment .

Great value beer. Brew Dog IPA approx £3.50 a pint and numerous great value meal offers with a pint, although brew Dog isn't part of this still has Ship Yard which is a decent pint.

Most neatly layed out pizza I've ever had in a Spoons, well done chef.Nice pub all round, with good service.

It's ok'ish but needs an update now. Decor passed it a bit. A lot of drinks not available.

Never had a bad pint of real ale in here. At these prices you really can't go wrong.

A small group of us went for coffee. Long q for the 1 machine then when we got to the front they ran out of hot milk so unable to serve coffee. Won't be back

Must be short staffed, had to clear table myself, kids food was poor, never had my favoured ale, waiting to get served bar staff obviousy favour locals and when i spoke up to say im next her reply was IM SERVING, i guess queueing is just for strangers. Only positive was on exit cleaner sweeping the door area wished me a pleasent rest of day.

Work related trip to Crook Sunday 3rd April, so we traveled to The wild Boar after it being recommended. Wasn't disappointed. Really good food and excellent service. Definitely return next month when up North for the next Quad bike training session.
