Food was good service only passable. Couldn't belive that the Fire Escape Route was a blocked by tables arranged by the Manager/ess. When challenged she just told us to F off which we did. Shame that a good pub was ruined by arrogant owner/manager. Hope she doesn't other premises to ruin!!!

A lovely little pub at the top of Sunderland, not far from the Empire Cinema. If you blink you would miss it, but try not to as it has a lovely atmosphere and not a bad pint!

I booked here for my baby shower months ago for 01/07/2018, I had contacted them on numerous occasions to query if I could add scones to the buffet menu and how much it would cost. I was told they would get back to me yet they never did, in the end due to lack of contact I popped in on 27/06/2018 and booked the basic buffet for my 35 guests. On the 1st my friends went in to decorate the room prior to my arrival yet the room was a mess off the party the night before. The barmaid said she was by herself and could tidy or clean the room so my friends had to clean it for them in order to decorate my baby shower. They brought up a table cloth for the cake take 2 hours after we arrived which by this point had the cakes on. They carried in bags of food purchased from the supermarket while we were there with sandwich filler, sausage rolls etc so they hadn’t even made the food. £4.95 per head and it was from The shop, clearly no homemade food. The food was poor, the sandwiches had hardly no filing and there was 1 plate of quiche, 1 plate of sausage rolls, repetitive empty sandwiches, a few scotch eggs, few part sausages and 2 plates of crisp and biscuits. £173 for a load of crap. There was no toilet roll and the toilets were disgusting. When I complained , I got a reply stating that they had no staff and the woman had come in on her day off to make my food and it was either my friends cleaning or it. Being cancelled. Really poor response I would never recommend this place as it’s a complete shambles which is a shame since the room is nice and could be a lovely venue if they had some organisation

I visited The Tipsy Cow yesterday for lunch. There was one couple with drinks, and another couple having a meal in the food area. When I requested a menu, I was told "it's a 30-40 minute wait for food". I asked why, and was told "she's gone out for supplies, they've run out" - and that was it. No apology, no asking would we like drinks while we wait. How could the menu be the size it is with nothing available to eat? Absolutely ridiculous, and very disappointing - I won't bother trying again.

Really nice burger looked home made and tasted delicious. Lovely fries, salad and coleslaw. The onion rings were not home made but cooked beautifully and still good. Loved the environment and the service was good too. Would recommend. Good value for £7.95 for the burger and fries with trimmings.

visited the tipsy cow on 27/10/17 for afternoon tea as part of our celebrations for my mams 90th birthday. We were a party of 8 and can honestly say everyone of us had a fab time. The food was plentiful and delicious, plenty of choice. It was excellent value for money, only £10 per head. We were given free presecco as well. I would have given the tipsy cow a rating of 5, but mams is in a wheelchair and there are steps in the middle of the pub. Maybe they could address this in some way. Even so we managed and had an amazing day. Would highly recommend a visit

The first thing that confronts you when entering is the smell of greasy food - one pint of overpriced beer and I was away. Even my clothes smelt of cooking fat. Dreadful. The place itself was very pleasant and inviting and if you are going to eat perhaps you would put up with the cooking smell!

Do not get me wrong the food was great only criticism was the onion rings were a bit over cooked and very small and skinny and the beef burger was burnt on the edges however, can't complain about the food prices. The service however, is something that can certainly be complained about. A baby was changed on the chair opposite us as there wasn't a baby change. Have absolutely no problem with the baby being changed it's a needs must it was the attitude of the lady. She suggested to the mother to change the baby on the chair as no one was eating. She then however gave us our food just as they started changing the nappy, fair to say I suddenly wasn't hungry anymore. I felt like we were completely neglected, we were only asked once we'd finished if everyone was okay. The lady then set up the table where the baby was changed for afternoon tea and didn't sanitise the chair or anything. Not at all impressed and thought it was very unhygienic, such a shame as my previous visits have always been amazing.

Booked a table via a conversation by email with the manager a week in advance and agreed a time of 5.45pm. Travelled from Hull to have a family meal and when we arrived at 5.45pm they claimed to know nothing about our booking and informed us the kitchen was closed even though the cook was still there and basically sent us away. Showed them all the email correspondence but they really weren't interested !!! Absolutely disgusted that they took a booking and didn't honour it and totally spoiled what should have been a lovely family meal for my elderly Aunty. I wouldnt recommend anyone waste their money on this place as terrible customer service by the manager and why book a table if they can just change their mind about honouring it on your arrival !!!!

We tried this place last Sunday as a family and took a Groupon voucher. You do have to book in advance and a table is reserved. It was cosy, nicely refurbished (I remember the pub it was from 15 years ago!), and quiet when we arrived. We ordered our food fairly quickly, drinks were ordered at the bar. We weren't expecting anything other than an ok meal but were very impressed. When the food arrived we were blown away. The portions were huge. My husband got the Farmyard Burger and it was enough to feed two people, it was enormous and he barely managed half, which was a shame. I had seen that option and rejected it because I knew it would be too much. I got the BBQ burger which was also huge but manageable. It was beautifully cooked, the chips were divine and the beef burger itself was inches high and great quality.

We visited for afternoon tea after seeing pictures and the pub is very nice and was quite busy when we arrived. The table we were allocated was too small and we had to move to a larger one when the food arrived. The quantity of food we received was far too much but unfortunately not of any great quality. The bread for the sandwiches was very nice but the cakes were cheap sponge cakes and there was no clotted cream for the cheap shop bought scones. I would much rather have a lot less and smaller portions of everything than to go overboard with a ridiculous quantity of food which it is impossible for a person to eat. Apparently the burgers are nice so maybe we just picked the wrong option. I would maybe visit again and try the standard menu but not for afternoon tea.

The Tipsy Cow is a nice pub with traditional decor and a good atmosphere. The lass behind the bar when we were in was smashing and provided good service with great banter. There is a good selection of beers, lagers and ciders and my only complaint is that the "house" cask beer was cloudy and not particularly nice. Had afternoon tea this afternoon with a Groupon voucher £10. Cannot fault the amount of food because we couldn't eat it all. However you never got to choose sandwiches, they did have the usual ham and tomato, egg mayonnaise, tuna sweet corn, chicken with tomato and lettuce in a wrap which the wrap was cut in slices, two slices of cheese n onion quiche and 1 large slice of pork pie. The cakes and scones ( fruit & cheese ) were not homemade at all. We all got a glass of prosecco included in the price. I'd like to try the hot food next time as it looked nice.

Booked a surprise afternoon tea for Mam, from a recommendation. Arrived on time we were shown to a table which was not dressed, the food was average (not as pictures show on web page) also no choice of sandwich offered so we had egg meyo, cheese savoury, tuna meyo & sweetcorn. Not everyone likes these fillings. Cheese scones !!! No cream scone , which is the whole point of afternoon tea? Also cake was nice ,but big slabs of cake is off putting on an afternoon tea. Looking round at other diners they obviously felt the same. Service was poor, had to fined a waitress to ask for further pot of tea, we left a little disappointed.

First time in the Tipsy Cow. Was recommended by friends who had been. Managed to get a table for five but we did notice two ladies having lunch taking up a table that could have seated 6+ people by sitting in the middle! At first we found the place cold but asked the waitress to find out where the terrible draft was from and she found an open rear door. Having the fire lit could have helped also. However, we found the menu very good with more than ample portions served and needed cartons to take some home. Prices very reasonable. Good hot tasty food. Waitress very obliging and very busy. Looks a popular place. We asked about the afternoon tea's that were being served and found that had to be ordered 24hrs in advance at a cost of £10 per head with a free bottle of Presseco for 4 or more people. We will defo be giving that a go as soon as our busy lunch sessions allow. Hope to see you again Tipsy Cow!!

Called in for drinks. Staff are lovely and friendly. It was tea-time and there was one other customer in. The place was chilly and the air vents behind the seating weren't warm. Cider was fine, Peroni looked like it was the first pull of the day with little life to it. We weren't eating but the kitchen had the deep fat fryer on the go because you could smell cooking oil through the pub; opening a window or switching the extractor on would help. Visited here around 6pm on a Friday night with my partner. Seemed a little ropey when we first walked in to the main bar, however this may be due to it being a Friday night so the customers primarily being drinkers. The dining area at the back however was much more comfortable and cosy. Ordered a spicy chilli burger and a bbq burger (I can't remember the exact names) and when they came after around a 20-30 minute wait, which is spot on considering there were several diners, we were quite disappointed. The burgers themselves just tasted weird, and were really dense and dry just didn't look or taste like burgers. The chips were frozen, and the onion rings soggy. Only saving grace was a side of mozzarella dippers which were lovely but I think anyone can just about get those right. After a large table next to us complained about their meals and were given the option "well do you want me to take them back to the kitchen or what" we decided to just suffer in silence and leave, abandoning 2 barely touched "burgers". Won't be rushing back.

Seeing as this is the first pub off the bridge it was no surprise that it was packed to the rafters. With it being so full you get a lot of body heat and you could see people with sweat running down their faces. I really think they should consider getting a dehumidifier fitted to the AC system. Or if they have one train the staff how to use it. The staff were very busy but got round to serving everyone in turn so well done to them. A few more seats outside would be an advantage also. The menu offered no vegetarian food at all, at first inspection this was a no no, however speaking to the chef he then told me he could create a haloumi burger especially for me, this ensured orders for 4 meals all of which were delightful, the haloumi burger was outstanding, the lady behind the bar (Lynsey) took our orders and served us with food and drink, she was a delight and made our visit more than memorable, we would recommend this place, a hidden gem x

Unfortunately the kitchen closes at 9 so there was no cooked food to be had after an evening football match. Had to resort to prepacked crisps and muffins. Beer was nice though!

The choice of food is very good from burgers to fish and chips. Quality food at a very good price, the only downside was the onion rings. It's a shame that the burgers are excellent quality but topped with frozen onion rings, if the onion rings were made fresh this would complete a perfect meal. The drinks are also a really good price. Very good value for your money.

Best burgers in town! The tipsy cow burger is amazing, two massive 8oz burgers and loads of chips and only £5 for a two pint pitcher

The refurbished bar is cosy but spacious for the size of the building. Unusual choice of furniture. Good choice of drinks at the bar. Tried food for 1st time today and was really impressed. Great range of burgers (chicken burger yummy) but also steak, salad and wraps. Even small meals for the kids. Should be something for all tastes on menu.

It's the second time I have been to this pub. It was only for drinks, but other half was pleased with the Bombardier that was on draft, likewise myself with the draft Peroni. Charming little pub, lovely decor and friendly staff.

My wife and I were looking for a nice little pub in Sunderland to get a bite to eat.we came across The Tipsy cow by accident and what a happy accident it was. The pub is spotlessly clean, nicely furnished. The staff are lovely and friendly. The food in the Tipsy cow was really nice and well presented.I had the tipsy cow burger not realising it could feed a small housing estate. It was so tasty it just had to be finished. I can highly recommend the tipsy cow, give it a try you won't be disappointed.

The food was ok, if you excuse a dry toast covered by everything else. The cakes were stale hard, dry beyond belief and covered in tonnes of sugar. Went straight to bin after first bite. Waste of money. The service was good though and if you like it pink, you will like the decor.

Popped in for a takeaway cappuccino last Saturday afternoon. Although the weather was gloomy outside that could not be said of the lovely greeting I received from the 2 young ladies who were working there. Sorry didn’t get their names but the older girl maybe early 20’s with blonde hair was particularly chatty and had great customer service skills and her younger dark haired colleague was equally engaging. Just a little well done for all concerned as it becomes rare these days to meet young staff in the hospitality game who interact with customers in such an amicable manner with smiles on their faces. First impressions are key for any business and mine was top notch. Plus my coffee was very tasty.
