The Wickets Inn in Telford and Wrekin

Just had our first amazing Sunday lunch here. We had pate and the mushrooms for starters both were outstanding then we had the slow cooked beef for our main the portion size was brilliant and the beef itself just melted in the mouth. Highly recommend, great staff very friendly and welcoming great value for money

Arrived yesterday evening at 5pm after pre booking a table for myself and 3 family member, when we arrived we were told our table wasn’t ready so we would have to wait, after half an hour I went and asked for a drink at the bar to be then told that it was table service only which I found bizarre as there was a group of men sat at the bar drinking. Anyway I asked how long our table would be and was asked how long is a peace of string? Rude right? Well it only got worse we finally got to our table and drinks order taken. After 10 minutes someone came and told us they had no vodka ! What pub has no vodka ?! Our food arrived and was cold when I approached the manager she stick her finger in my food and said no it’s not cold either eat it or pay and go. She then sucked her finger as she walked away! Anyway we decided we wasn’t going to pay for the food so offered to pay for the drinks before we left. By this time the male owner had arrived he was shouting at my partner and threatening to follow him home! We were distraught and left immediately without another word. Would I return? Absolutely not I wouldn’t even recommend this place to my worst enemy.

My partner and I went there on Monday 4th November. We had heard good reviews and was not disappointed. The waitress/barmaid was absolutely lovely. The food was good. My husband wasn't wellso he just had the steak and onion cabretta. I had the lunch time time steak, home made chips, mushroom,tomato. Tried my husbands coleslaw. Definitely home made and delicious. As was both our meals. Highly recommend 👌

Well, the food was a rarerity of new and old, all of which was of top quality. The service was beyond praise, and we so enjoyed our visit we certainly will be calling again, because we are easily satisfied with the best, and it was, 👌

Went here for a family member birthday gathering and meal but the food I ordered wasnt great, steak was tiny and didn't put on the peppercornSauce as requested for £20 meal was poor! I would say the worse part is getting told about my two deserts I was fine to pay at the end but then said another desert wasn't paid for when my brother paid his and misses in full before leaving! yet I paid in full before leaving to save any issue but I won't be coming back again as not wanting to be robbed like this again, shame but it is what it is

We brought our grandparents here for a Sunday dinner for their birthdays and we were all so impressed with the food, the service and even the prices. Absolutely amazing Sunday dinner and the staff were all so polite and friendly and we didn’t wait long for food and there was so much of it and all the meat and vegetables were cooked perfectly. Our grandparents cannot wait to come back again and try other food off the menu. In their words the food was ‘out of this world’ so I don’t think it’ll be long until we’re all back!

Went within a large group, my meal was disappointing fish full of oil and chips were cold and undercoooked.

Went for a 70th Birthday meal whilst I didn’t ask the rest of the table I found my meal of Fish & Chips to be a very plain piece of matter surrounded in batter not flakey and overall tasteless. My drink of Guinness was spilt by the server with very little care managed to drink 80% of it as the other 20% was on the table.

Been here this evening food was lovely no complaints there however the older waitress who served this evening needs to improve her personal hygiene as this impaired the experience slightly.

Called in for a sit down and a beer. Friendly pub with decent ales. Large garden area and an inner courtyard. Could have stayed longer.

We visited The Wickets on a Saturday afternoon for a meal with the family. There were 9 of us for lunch. The menu had something for everyone, including great value meals for the kids. In fact, every one of us had something different. Great mix of pub classics, steaks, and some excellent vegan options. The kids had chicken nuggets made fresh from chicken breast and breadcrumbs. They wolfed them down. Excellent choice of draught beers. Nice friendly atmosphere in a nicely decorated and light interior. The service was excellent despite the kitchen and service teams being very busy. Meals were served fresh, without a long wait and all at the same time. Price was good value, not expensive but not cheap either. For the quality and quality of the food, the comfortable interior, and the amazing service, it was priced perfectly. To Debbie and Lance, thank you for being perfect hosts, and congratulations on your team for great service.

4 adults went for an evening Dinner, 2 had sirloin steak which were returned because tough and full of gristle, these were replaced with better steaks. The other 2 meals were ok. Sitting waiting for deserts I looked at the vinegar bottle and to my absolute disgust the vinegar was full of floating dead flies, we brought this to the attention of the waitress and she was horrified and went to the table opposite checked the vinegar and that was full of dead flies. She reported it but there was no explanation or apology for this, in fact when we left I checked the vinegar on empty tables and they too were full of flies. How does this restaurant get a food hygiene certificate when they allow bad housekeeping like this. We emailed the restaurant with our complaint but they didn't respond , Check the vinegar bottles before you use it.

Went at lunch time, the food was OK but the prices were really high especially for pub prices. Wouldn't go again for food at those prices

We were over in Telford today and had planned to have a pub lunch at somewhere that was dog friendly. A quick Google search and the Wickets Inn seemed to fit the bill. We were not disappointed! Nice clean friendly pub with a good selection on the menu. The food we ordered was tasty and well presented. Our dogs were especially happy with the free treats. We'll definitely go back there next time we're in the area.

What a fantastic find!. We stopped at this lovely pub restaurant for lunch on our way to Wales on holiday. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and our 12 year old Australian catrle dog, Biscuit, was fussed and given treats by the Landlords family. The interior is smart and clean. The service was excellent. The menu catered for Coeliacs (Gluten free) and a great selection was available for all pallates. There was even a doggy menu for the pooch!. I had a lovely sirloin steak medium rare. Delicious and cooked perfectly. We also ordered lamb burgers, Southern fried chicken on Ciabatta and fries. All came well presented and tasting delicious! We will definitely be back our.our return journey. Excellent!

We searched for a dog friendly pub in Telford for lunch today and the Wickets Inn seemed to fit the bill. Nice clean friendly pub with a good selection on the menu. Tasty food that was well presented. Our dogs loved the complimentary treats on offer. We'll definitely go back there next time we're in the area.

We had a great meal. Catered for all of our tastes. Food was fabulous. Great service too. Will visit again. My husband said the rump steak with the blue cheese sauce was the best he had ever had - and he likes his steak!

Staff was very friendly. food a bit disappointing, the huntsman chicken consisted of small pieces instead of one piece, felt like a childs dish, also the tangy sauce was not very nice too and potatoes a little hard. Pub quiz was going on and there was a full house with a nice atmosphere and it was good to see a pub being so well supported.

Very attentive staff, great portion sizes, delicious food and fantastic value for money! I haven’t been for years after a bad experience but we have had a fantastic time. Highly recommended.

My husband is not one to be overwhelmed when eating out. We have had meals as a couple meals out with our grandkids and with our family. at various pubs in Telford Today it was me and hubby out for lunch we had not been here for a few years. We had the set menu 2 courses and OMG both were amazing. We both had the pate starter 5 stars fresh crunch bread outside moist on the inside and warm with a good portion of pate salad and pickle in a container. Quality all round then we had the beef mash carrots peas with peppercorn sauce. We thought the 1st course was fab but the main meal was exceptional beef cooked and tender mash traditional which was nice carrots peas with the peppercorn sauce in a tine pan to put where you wanted to go. All the chefs kitchen staff well done amazing food amazing taste. But also the staff that were behind the bar and serving fantastic service all round. I honestly would say if you have not tried this pub for meals please do try it as the quality taste re food was really fantastic. So next week we taking our grandkids as they have a good variety set menu for them to Again all I can say is thank you to all staff members in kitchen and serving all we amazing x

Very nice place. Very friendly staff. A very nice garden area with the option to sit in the shade or in the sun. Can't comment on the food I didn't eat here .

Just had a refurbishment, great food and drink.

On this particular occasion had an issue with desserts and customer service which is not usually the case awaiting reply

It wasn't that bad only where we was put to sit they had an 80th birthday party and there was kids messing about

Been to the wickets now twice, the first time the meal was absolutely amazing.. tonight I would say not as nice, the carbonara was swimming in butter, my husbands sauce with the cod loin was quite greasy also, the apple crumble I left most of it as it wasn’t as nice either, the waiting on/ bar staff was as lovely & helpful, cannot fault the waiting on/ bar staff. Must of been a different chef on tonight, from last time. Did not enjoy my meal at all.

This place has been refurbished and done very well. The lady serving us was run off her feet and coped extremely well. She was brilliant, very attentive. The food for me was spot on. We chose of the specials menu (2 courses £15). Our friends said their food was slightly over cooked.

Came in late to a busy pub and they made me welcome. Cleared a table for me. Very friendly service and an absolutely terrific lamb shank meal. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Fairly local pub for us - but had not been for a while & recently under new management. We were impressed - decent menu & nice quality pub food. There was a small wait to be served but they told us in advance & all was good. Will return

Awful Sunday lunch, half the things on the menu not available,needed a saw to cut the meat. I like aldenti veg but this was nearly raw! A bar made needs a note pad (at the bar) because she can’t take a drink order for 4 people? Seriously not a good experience

Pretty awful Sunday lunch, weird thick slices of very tough meat, sad looking vegetables, soggy potato's that had been drowned in gravy. Ate here last year and it was great, don't know what's changed but won't be back.

Great night. Food was amazing, 14 of us and all ate together and it was all hot. Highly recommend

Visiting the pub in normal kitchen hours 13:00 was told they weren't serving food because they had large bookings from 1430 I was with a small group and wanted some snacks nothing big. Basically refused food based on the basis that they were pending to be busy. It's was very empty by the was. Beer was very expensive and the tall lad behind the bar, made a very unusual statement, that I won't go Into. Nothing derogatory just unusual Me or the team won't visit again

Put off by finding that the courtyard hadn't been cleaned from the night before. Ashtrays full dog poo.

Food and service was wonderful!

Lovely afternoon tea and hot sandwiches. Staff friendly and helpful, good atmosphere. Would recommend.

Had the most amazing meal, there was 11 of us in total, service was spot on, the meals were absolutely beautiful could not fault a thing at all, (compliments to the chef & staff) Donna, Sasha & the chef were very helpful they are a credit to the wickets, amazing value for money 3 course meal for £18 pp was impeccable, nothing was not to much trouble ,will definitely be returning.

We happened to be passing on the M54 , looking for a place for a late lunch. Full of football supporters when we got there, a local Derby. They were leaving and we had a great meal. Ham hock terrine followed by sausage n mash and raised liver. It was all very tasty with cheerful service and a sensible cost

Came for Sunday lunch very disappointing. The roast beef was chewy and looked like it had been microwaved veg were nice but not enough for 3 and I'm guessing the parsnips are roasted with the potatoes as only had 1 potato but lots of parsnips. Pleasant staff and nice to see the decor refreshed but sadly we won't be returning

Our favourite local pub has been ruined. Between 2006 and 2013 it was great. But Heineken decided to sell the pub. We felt that the then current tenants had been shafted because they did such a brilliant job for 17 years. Now it is so different. Many people like that it's different now but many of the old customers have left in their droves. They now have live music which does not interest us. There are many other pubs in our town that have live entertainment. Today, on a bank holiday, they were closed before 9pm! So we have to guess when they open and close. They also close at 6pm every Sunday. Hence why we rarely ever visit this pub nowadays.

Only popped in as we were passing from a walk, but the food was absolutely stunning & great prices too! The staff were so lovely and welcoming. Definitely recommend!

Haven been to The Wickets Inn for a few years, but had recently noticed it had changed hands so we thought we would give it a go! Very presently surprised by the inside of the pub, clean and tidy, staff well presented. Ordered drinks and asked for a table for food. Ordered their home cooked option from the menu from the 2 courses. The food was piping hot, well presented and very tasty! Well done The Wickets Inn, we will bee back!

We've been for a Friday night experience twice now, the six of us enjoyed the steaks and thought it was a great price on the menu! It's been changed to Saturday night now, so be mindful of what's being served - we can only recommend the steaks so far which we know are bought locally ! We'll be going again in May, so if you're there, give us 6 a wave 😄👋

First time at this pub since under new management. Absolutely first class service and food was fantastic. Special reference to the lad who brought our food out, he had such a lovely manner and smile . Clearly loved his job and that transferred to us the customer and made us feel happy to be there too

£12 for a VERY small portion of liver was disappointing. Either reduce price or increase portion size.

The food was lovely lots of it , but the drinks selection was very limited and really disappointing, not much choice at all , some of them were not very nice at all. One one photos two sandwiches were taken off.

Friendly team, attention to detail all good was beautifully presented and one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve all had! Would highly recommend! Debbie, Lance and the team shine xx

Great meal very reasonably priced followed by a great band… Paul Parker and all the right Friends… we arrived at 6:30pm and didn’t leave till 11:30 what a great night!

Called in for lunch . Very friendly staff. Lunch was good. Meatball and macaroni cheese. The table service was excellent. Will definitely return. Like the idea of the entertainment they advertise.

Shocking service , rude waitress. Food came out over half table food was lukewarm at best. Reheated hard chips!!! Cold plates. My food came out and there was two hairs in it and my chicken pie was lukewarm. It took less than 5 mins to redo ( obviously microwave stuff!!). Desserts faired no better, mixing up orders cold pie. We have eaten at the wickets as a group for over 5 years and it was always lovely, this was our first experience of the new owners and it will be our last.

This was our 6th Christmas meal here and the last 5 were lovely but today it was very disapointing. Food was cold. Dessert were poor and nothing up to the standard we expected. We will not be having our works meal there again.

We have visited The Wickets a few times now since it reopened and have been thoroughly impressed every time. Yesterday we tried the Sunday lunch for the first time and it was absolutely delicious! Lots of choices and great value- the roast beef dinner was gorgeous. The midweek 2/3 course menu is excellent too and brilliant value for money.

I was a little bit taken aback by the argumentative nature of our waitress, which came out of nowhere! But it did not spoil our afternoon. I’m sure it did not mean to come across that way, but may be worth considering for a reflective practice points of view and in developing customer service. Food was lovely and we enjoyed ourselves thank you!

Booked a table for 4. We were eager to try the new menu. 2 x mixed grill (one requested well-done steak), 1 x gammon & 1 x rump with blue cheese sauce. All arrived in a reasonable time. The well-done steak was well overdone, too tough to eat. The blue cheese sauce was overcooked, and all of the plates were stone cold. I spoke with a lady who had served us afterwards and suggested they might serve the food on hot plates to prevent the food going cold straight away. Her reply was, " she does sometimes to be fair. But when you order again, ask for the plates to be warmed. Though the staff find it difficult to carry warm plates." Unknown to me, my husband had mentioned the cold plates when paying the bill. The response he got was, " At least you don't have to go home & wash/wipe up!" Needless to say, we will not have the problem again, as we won't be returning!

Family birthday lunch fantastic food and service would definitely recommend the pizza. I had surf and turf it was delicious. I imagine this is very popular so would recommend booking online. The website does not show the whole menu, there is a fantastic selection of good food on the menu.

Popped in for dinner, hadn’t booked, staff friendly and helpful. Had a great meal, my scampi was piping hot and well cooked, husband’s steak perfectly cooked (medium rare). Thanks for a lovely meal.

Had a lovely lunch with friends. Quality food, well cooked with reasonable prices to boot. Topped off by welcoming dogs in the car area, well worth a visit.

Went on Thursday which was steak night and the steak was lovely and chocolate brownie with mint choc chip ice cream for pudding which was just as lovely

We were delighted to find this charming spot in Wellington and booked in each of the four nights we were here. The food was excellent on each visit and there was plenty of variety for us to choose from even though we don’t eat land animals. The service was great, and always friendly and smiling. We mostly split one starter and one main as we don’t like to have food left over and they were always accommodating with extra plates. There was a nice beer selection and always a cask ale. We had the king prawn starter with the mushroom and cheese Wellington which was delicious. The following night we chose the two specials-mushrooms and prawn and tomato risotto. The third night we had two starters-the mussels with a lovely wine sauce and crisp and delicious French fries and the King Prawns which come with a nice green salad. On our final evening we chose the Brie starter and the salmon main. The sauces were all excellent, the vegetables crisp and delicious and the small salads which accompanied the starters were crisp and nicely dressed with a balsamic glaze. For meat eaters they have an excellent selection including steak specials on Thursday and Friday. We would highly recommend!

Today we had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Wickets in Wellington. We booked it last week, and as they already had the restaurant full we booked to sit in the bar. It was just as nice in there. There were a few other tables occupied by people having meals in there, but there was plenty of room. We all had different choices, i had the roast turkey, which came with roast potatoes, roasted parsnips, stuffing and cranberry sauce, i requested mine without gravy. There was also a dish with buttered carrots, broccoli and shredded cabbage. It was delicious. For sweet i had biscotti cheese cake which came with two scoops of toffee ice cream and it was decorated with strawberry and blue berries, and a biscotti biscuit and toffee sauce. The perfect way to spend a Sunday lunch time.

Me and my partner were travelling back from Whitchurch (im from Brum) when we decided to stop off at this pub. It looked quiet but that was perfect for us. When we entered the pub it was very nice and it had a cosy feel to it. The girl behind the bar greeted us and said we could sit anywhere. We was offered a set menu plus their daily menu. The food choice was not huge but it looked good. My partner had the chicken, ham and leek pie. I had the steak and ale pie. We ordered drinks and waited for our meals. Service was on point and I actually felt really chilled. The food came and it was absolutely fantastic, fresh food… fresh cooked chips with fresh veg. The pies were phenomenal and tasty. We stayed for another drink, why not. We didn’t venture into the dessert menu as we was both stuffed lol. All in all it was a lovely pub with fantastic food and a feel good atmosphere. I’d pop in again if I was that way.

OH MY GOODNESS! I've been living in Wellington for three years now and have walked past this lovely pub many times and wondering in for a drink on several occasions. But decided to drop in for a meal. Me and family were not disappointed. Reasonably priced food, super tasty. The atmosphere was lovley and the staff treated us so well. I recommend the pan fried salmon, was delicious! And the veg is all pan fried too. My only critic would be their vegetarian options, which are fine if you like mushrooms but unfortunately I don't! Can't wait to come again

Absolutely brilliant pub food. 6 of us are here on BH Monday, very friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble. 4 adults and 2 boys aged 10 and 13. Scoffed the lot. All home cooked and tasty. Great beers too, will definitely return.

Found this place by accident what a find food was amazing I had a chicken ceasar salad very tasty wife had spaghetti bolognaise she said it was delicious my friend had scampi and chips he said it was really delicious top marks
