Sadly this pub/restaurant is now closed .I went there with my family aged 12 to 76 . The menu had very good choices of starters mains and desserts. The food was beautifully cooked. The service was excellent, friendly but not overbearing or hurried. The pub is a very clean quaint old English pub with nooks and crannies. My brother and son loved the fact it was a free house and had a good selection of ales and beers. I will defiantly be going back for another meal on my next family visit to the Telford area.( 2014 )

Jed and Dot, the host and hostess immaculate, have done wonders with the place. A steady hand and a unerring eye for detail. If they were animal pair, they would be a panda and white seal. The ambience is irresistible and the courgette cheddar soda bread is to die for.

We went there by chance as it was the only dog-friendly place in the area that still had spaces for Sunday lunch. But we were so glad that we did.A good range of starters for everyone, even the toddlers partook of the black pudding and poached egg. Plenty of meat in the main courses, with nice touches such as cinnamon in the apple sauce, and even the stuffing was worthy of comment. A range of good desserts too.And at the end of it, a bill only half as much as an average meal would have cost back home in Surrey.

We booked a roast dinner at the Horse and Jockey for my husband and myself and son and daughter in law and after all the wonderful reviews were really looking forward to it. When the meal arrived there was a lot of meat, one and a wedge of roast potato and one tiny new potato plus a (what I would call a dollop of what looked like dauphinoise potato). The vegetables arrived in a small dish which consisted of about 6 sticks of carrot, 5 broccoli and red cabbage. On top was another 'dollops of (I think macaroni cheese). I didn't taste it because it looked like it had been sitting around for a while as the cheese on top looked congealed and crusty round the edge. To say we were disappointed is an understatement, especially after all the glowing reviews. Not the roast meal we would have expected! The only positive thing I can say, is the meat was very good but the rest was terrible!

Went again with the family for the pre-booked Christmas menu. Food was delicious, the salmon I had was superb and all of the party reported the same. How Andy makes the apple cake I don't know, it was so good, and semifreddo went down very well. Didn't taste the chocolate torte but son in law ordered one extra to his first choice so we can only guess how good it was. usual lovely welcome. Grandchildren well looked after.

We had a day ouy in Ironbridge and met up with some friends here for lunch. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had two Turkey dinners and two Pork dinners. It came with potatoes, roasties, carrots, brocoli cheese, cabbage and yorkshire pudding. It was very tasty. The desserts are home made and yummy. We had Belgium waffle with toffee sauce and the chocolate and cherry sponge with custard.Food was hot and service was great. There is very little parking space but you can park on the main road just outside. I would recommend a visit.

Wonderful Sunday roast! Service was lovely and friendly even though there was a large group in there- it didn’t show on the service. Quaint little place in a quiet area. The only downside was that they only had two ales, both bitter, not my cuppa but the food on its own makes it worth a visit anyway. The home made desserts were very delicious too. Very reasonable prices too. Highly recommended!

We had 2 Sunday lunches and a vegetarian Wellington. Sunday lunch good value £10.50 for 2 courses. Food was delicious and piping hot. Chocolate peanut cheesecake was gorgeous. The mushroom Wellington could have done with being a bit larger portion, especially as it was more expensive than the meat meals, however, it was delicious. Went with family for the festive meal. Pre-ordered and booked we had the usual welcome from Becky and Andy. Home made quiche style tart to start with, served with salads was excellent and enjoyed by 3 year granddaughter as well.(The fig marmalade was out of this world and so complemented the tart.) Turkey with trimmings was had by all but me and I had pork loin. Excellent, and the red cabbage and cauliflower cheese led the vegetables. The pistachio sponge was so light it almost floated away. Wife had the brulee which she didn't share with me! (We usually swap half way through the pudding!) The children enjoyed their meals to the point of clean plates. Tonight got our Christmas off to a flying start, many thanks and we look forward to returning.

We hadn't booked, but the polite girl behind the counter offered us a table and served us with some excellently kept beer. We both opted for the Roast Pork which was a good sized portion with plenty of vegetables and arrived in a reasonable time. The pub itself is a good honest building. Read previous T.A. reports, couldn't wait to try this pub whilst in Ironbridge for a long weekend. We decided to have Sunday lunch, roast beef for two. Tough beef, food not very hot, all in all very disappointing. When asked if everything was ok said the beef was tough and the girl said 'oh I'm sorry'. We made a random last minute booking for partners mothers belated mothers day meal based on the reviews here. On arrival met by extremely friendly (and dog friendly) barmaid and chef. As there were 6 of us took a while to decide on what to order. Were assured the steak pie was home made which 4 chose including a child, I had the pork tagine and other child scampi. Starters of brie and black pudding. Sticky toffee pudding and waffles for pud. All food was excellent. The veg selection was unusual and a nice change from normal pub offerings of soggy peas and carrots..it included seared fennel and tomatoes..All food. obviously home made and tasty. The 2 staff were attentive and entertaining (1 being the multi tasking head chef). The pub itself was clean and very characterful. Only minor suggestions rather than criticism would be warm the plates as the food was a little cool, light the fire as open fire would have made perfect, and get the sewerage system sorted as the toilets were immaculate but lingering smell obviously from a drain issue!! Overall a gem and for pub food it was excellent. Will certainly go again.

It's a been a little time since we last visited Horse & Jockey and so were looking forward to getting over there again recently for a Christmas / Sunday lunch with family. As always we were not disappointed. For those who haven't visited yet, H&J is a little pub that's tucked away on Jockey Bank as you head down into Ironbridge village. Parking (immediately outside) can be limited but there's spaces just a minute or two's walk down the road. There was 7 of us for lunch on a busy Sunday and it was pretty much full for the majority of the time we were there. We had a mix of starters, mains and desserts and the food - as always - was well prepared and tasty. All the dishes came out at the same time, which other places could learn from! Everyone around our table loved their food - evidenced bu the empty plates - and the freshly cooked veg was delicious, you could even taste the maple on the carrots. I enjoyed the black pudding & poached egg starter, with the egg cooked to perfection. The roast beef I had was lovely, tender and tasty with the veg still with a bite in it. We had a veggie in the mediation and the chef offered additional choices, which was a nice touch (went for the mushroom pie in the end) and there wasn't a complaint in sight. Those that had desserts loved them. The beer was well kept and taste (Spikey Blonde) and the wine nice too; and the atmosphere warm and friendly. All in all, for under £120 (for all 7) you can't complain at the value or the food at Horse & Jockey. We'll be back again soon..

Sunday lunch was superb - 3 different meats, 2 ways with potatoes and 3 further vegetables all for a staggering £7.25!! The next day we had 2 rump steaks and a bottle of red of our choice all for £28. The steaks were cooked to perfection with that lovely crusted finish to the outside and just pink enough inside, the way we asked for them. The chef/owner was very personable in an understated way.The decor is fairly simple but had a warmth about the atmosphere - I bet it's great on a cold winter's day.Opening our are fairly restricted so take note.We thoroughly recommend this pub and look forward to returning.

Just had our first amazing Sunday lunch here. We had pate and the mushrooms for starters both were outstanding then we had the slow cooked beef for our main the portion size was brilliant and the beef itself just melted in the mouth. Highly recommend, great staff very friendly and welcoming great value for money
