This was my local (although it wasn't that local) when I was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed 16/17 year old. Such fond memories of being to told by the landlady to hide in the toilets because there was about to be a police raid. I even worked behind the bar for a night at age 16 when they were short-handed. Ah, happy times! Mind you, that was 28 years ago and things have definitely changed since then. The floors are no longer sticky and the decor is considerably more refined. I think, on the whole, it's an improvement. We did get a stale packet of crisps but we were immediately given a new one upon request so full marks there. We didn't eat or sleep there so can't comment on any of that but as a pub it's nicer than it was 3 decades ago and that's pretty good 😊

Just returned from a weekend here, and what a great time we had. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was a good size, and overlooked the river Severn, could not wish for a better view. Entertainment was good at the weekend, plenty of meals to try. Breakfast was brilliant, best for a while, which is served at the sister hotel 50 yds away, would highly recommend. 😄😄😄😄😄

Our friends and ourselves each booked a room here as a base while visiting the area. The two rooms probably reflect the variable reviews posted on here. We were in room 3 , our friends in room 6. I can only review our room 3 which was absolutely fine. You must remember that this is not a modern chain hotel ,it is an old building which comes complete with nooks and crannies , creaking floor boards , narrow staircases, and interesting shaped rooms, not long chain hotel like corridors! Our room was larger than the norm, overlooking river, with walk in wardrobe, large bathroom, a double and single bed as well as bedside tables, hospitality table and lounge chair. Bathroom had shower over bath and beds were very very comfortable!, We received a very warm welcome and we experienced this warmth from staff throughout our stay. As with all older buildings you can always find fault if you look for it but we have no complaints . there is ample parking but even if it is full there is a free (after 17.00 hours) public car park a few yards along the road. Breakfast is also served a few yards along the road at the Malt House which we had no issue with, the breakfast was OK ,plenty of cooked options, though could do with more choice of cereal and a Yog /fruit option perhaps, not a complaint, just a suggestion. another suggestion is that the bathroom could do with a mirror, towel rail and bin, again not a complaint but an observation. The pub is in a brilliant position for all things Ironbridge, is vibrant with music on many nights, this was pointed out by our host but we did not find it to be a problem, some folk may but it adds to the ambience in our opinion. Plenty of options for dinner if you wish to dine in though there are plenty of options in Ironbridge if you want a change. Our friend in Room 6 were not quite so thrilled with their room although i hasten to add they still thought it great value for money , a view we fully endorse.

My wife and I stayed for 4 nights bed and breakfast, we wish we had stayed somewhere else. The car parking forced us to pick this venue but there was no where to park most nights. A tiny parking area had a scap car and staff parking stopping us from parking. The stair carpet was filthy and the room had no drawers, no cupboards and a tiny wardrobe with four hangers. There was a shower fitted to the taps of the bath but nowhere to hang it. The place was awful and then the last straw was we had to walk to the next pub to be served with a very poor breakfast. NEVER AGAIN.

Booked a table yesterday, last minute booking. Said he could fit a table of 4 in. We arrived at 2pm, sat down had a drink. Ordered our starters and mains. After 40 mins waitress came around and asked us if we wanted another drink. We asked about our starters and she said “oh we have 2 chefs on today it’s taking a little longer than normal but I’ll check” this was the last time we spoke to her. Now after an hour we go to the bar and ask what’s taking so long. Ten mins later he comes and tells us our ticket didn’t go through so the waitress before either didn’t bother checking or just didn’t tell us. We got up and left after an hour and 20 mins of bad communication. The restaurant wasn’t even busy. A table of 6 behind us said it wasn’t worth the wait so that made it easy for us to leave and try one of their competitors and we had a great meal. The worst costumer service I’ve ever experienced. Shame on you.

Cannot recommend The Swan enough, first time my wife and I have been here and we have had a fantastic meal, portions are very good. My wife had chicken strip starter with garlic bread and I had the Texas 8hr brisket, we asked for both to come out together which they did couldn’t believe how much beef there was. The gravy was so tasty. Very quick service in both drink and food, Carl and his staff made us very welcome an excellent place for a meal.

Had seen this establishment on the Saturday and thought we would go for Sunday lunch. Was shown to a table near the window so not too dark. Drinks order was taken and they arrived okay. Ordered 2 Sunday Roasts 50+ minutes later we noticed tables that had arrived after us were being served, so managed to have a word with the waitress and she apologised and said the signal to the kitchen had failed on our order. And she would rush it through and it would take no longer than 10 minutes 17 minutes later still no food but credit where credit is due she came and said we could have a free sweet. During this time 4 more tables were served with Sunday Roasts. After another 5 minutes of waiting I'm afraid we did something we have never done before we got up and walked out.

Where do I Start. First of all the room was grimy and tired. Everything really could of done with a good deep clean and a new lick of paint. The description on the The Swan Taphouse says open till late and doesn't specify an actual time , but we were informed they were open till twelve at night when we arrived. So there was a consent noise outside the window with the beer garden being directly below. The key we were given was bent and we were instructed to forcefully yank the key out of its lock if it wouldn't come out. The bath only gave out Luke warm water and the water pressure was low. Bed side lights barley worked with the one bulb flickering and some of the plug sockets weren't working. The one member of staff we saw was generally lovely but that was the only member of staff we saw. Now we should of learned from the state of the room that the food wouldn't be up to scratch but we were tired and hungry so we thought we would risk it. I know, that's on us! We waited an hour for our food and it arrived cold and bland, surprising really when there was only around 8 people there. Now for the breakfast, when booking at the The swan taphouse you would of thought the breakfast would be served at the place you paid to stay in right? Wrong! It was served at a different pub and that wasn't mentioned when booking the room! There was nobody there in the morning to ask you about your stay as a member of there staff doesn't start till 12pm. We could of questioned it after arriving that day but with so much wrong with the room we dreaded to think what the rest of the rooms were like.

The ONLY redeeming quality were the cute ducks sitting outside by the river. Food was 45mins wait for something that spoons does better, for a smokehouse the ribs and chicken were really poor. Staff were non existent. Room was in need of a really good clean, bath had Luke warm water and no pressure, so after a day of lovely forest walk can't even have a nice hot bath. Couldn't actually tell if the toiletries have been reused as one bottle was full but the other bearly half and none were sealed. Back entrance was discussing and door was apparently left open all night. No where on the website did it say that the pub is closed till 12 and breakfast is actually next door at Malt house, but actually glad it was cos it was lovely. It's a bad sign where the included £10 breakfast for 2 is miles better than the smokehouse £50dinner at the location.

Central to Iron Bridge village. Shropshire. Very scenic area by the river, museum and old railway (not used) and old kiln works. Quaint popular area. The Swan Taphouse opposite the river. Popular with locals. Various choice of lagers and ales. No Rose wine when i asked. The food is expensive for the type of place. Dont have the Messy Chips..its exactly what it says 'Messy'..i had 2 mouthfuls and left the rest at £8. The King Prawn starter..3 laced in a sticky source. A large glass of Red wine..£7.20..Total over £22..sorry not impressed. I cannot speak of others on the menu..Steaks expensive. Fish and chips the same. Personally i wouldn't eat there again..but was fairly busy early evening, so i expect its choosing the right food. I stayed overnight and the room was very good..nice comfortable bed clean shower room..def recommend. And breakfast which was included i had to go about 100 yds to the Malthouse pub..no problem..and the breakfast was excellent.. so all in all i was happy with my stay.

Place was lovely to sit. Apart from that myself and my daughter were feeling not great after our meal. The drinks which were only a J20 and a Pepsi werent good. The glass the J20 came with wasn't cleaned properly and took 20 mins to come i had to remind staff twice we were there. The food was and i'm trying to be nice about this, awful. We ordered a kids cheese burger and double bacon cheese burger. I don't know what these burger patties were made of but it certainly wasnt beef. The consistancy of it was like Lunch meat, Tightly compressed meat not even resembling a burger more like spam on the inside. I've had better match day burgers at the carboot. I hardly ate mine. My daughter barely touched hers aswell. Not to mention the hour wait for it. The kids starter was ok and the pudding was not great i think by then my daughter had been put off by the burger to be honest as i can't see how ice cream can give you a dodgey belly after a couple of spoonfuls. A few hours on and my stomach feels terrible. Huge waste of 30 odd quid. As for the staff they were fine. Nice and friendly, just the food was awful. I didn't want to say anything as the staff already looked stressed as it was. Won't be going again which is a shame cause as i said it was a nice place to sit and the staff were friendly. I'm being nice by giving it 2 stars. The food was in the minus. Only propped up by the nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Timing was not great but i have had worse. Sorry guys but do better. You'd think paying £15 for a burger at a pub based in a world heritage site would of been better. You have people from all over the world coming here.

Stopped in for a drink and the drinks were fine. Music seemed a really odd choice - all American country music. Just seemed strange for the location, but maybe it's what they were going for. Bar staff couldn't be bothered to be friendly in anyway and left us feeling like we were inconveniencing them by ordering drinks. I guess it's because they were eager to get back to visiting with their friends seated at the bar. I wouldn't bother going back.

On arrival, we said we had a table booked. Really nice guy who served us; however, we were given a stained paper menu and left to seek out a table. Found our table but it was quite dark, so we moved. (Top tip, light the candles on the tables). Ordered burnt end nachos to start with which were loaded and absolutely yummy. No skimping on nacho sauce or Guacamole. The burnt ends just melted. I ordered the 8 hour slow cooked rib with pit gravy, bacon mash and pit beans. All really tasty but the rib was a tiny bit dry but the meaty gravy made up for it. The rib is huge, I brought a doggy bag home. My other half had the full rack of ribs which I believe came from a Brontosaurus 🦕. They were huge and the meat fell off the bone. A really good meal, fabulous company, change the seating (not comfy) and get better lighting. Oh and the ladies bathroom needs addressing; one toilet working, hole in the wall and dated decor.

Food was average, but what really killed the dining experience was the service from one specific waiter. Despite being near empty at the time we arrived, the food still took very long to arrive for each course. There was no drinks menu, and the waiter simply "remembered" the items. Lastly, when the bill arrived (we had spent near £100), we noticed we had been charged for extra things we hadn't ordered. The waiter that served us finished his shift and invited his mates to eat and drink and subsequently went to add their food charges onto our bill, which was simply disgusting. Did he think we would not notice? That was the final straw. Will definitely not be visiting or recommending to anyone I know.

We stayed here for 2 nights as I had the voucher for a birthday present. Well, it was NOT what we expected ,the stairs leading to bedrooms were grubby, dark and smelly. Guest entrance was via side of hotel again not a great way for your guests to get in and out. Our bedroom had a lovely view of the river. Clean towels and bedding. Parking... if you were lucky could squeeze on carpark ,otherwise 200yds up road to public car park. Ran a bath... lukewarm water! The tap on the sink turned the opposite way to what you would expect, shower head was grubby. No glasses in bathroom either. The bed well... it was the most uncomfortable mattress/bed I've ever not slept on. The bedroom windows were shabby needed a lick of paint. Cobwebs all over the room. We were told when we checked in breakfast was at the sister hotel down the road. Well our 1st morning for breakfast was amazing ,best part of stay. The 2nd morning it was not as good service. Ordered tea and coffee got told to collect from the bar, yet other customers were served at their table. Also missing the black pudding and brown sauce had hardly anything in it. Had we known we were going to have to walk to other hotel to get breakfast, when they sere food at the Swan we would have chosen somewhere else. The sister hotel lacks parking but from what we saw it was alright, it was getting redecorated due to a fire.

Location is lovely, but that’s about it. I went for a lunch on a Sunday, thinking we could order from the normal menu, as well as the Sunday menu, but we were wrong. The only starter was a celeriac soup and the other choices were roast dinners for all. When it came to desserts, I asked for the kids options, to which they then came back with a children’s menu, which they said we couldn’t order from on arrival! So instead of paying £7.95 for two children’s courses, I paid £12.50! The smoked brisket was nice, but not great as a Sunday roast, especially when eaten with the very fake gravy and the desserts were bland, defrosted and £7 each, so really not worth it. Service was not much better, with lots of miserable and unhelpful individuals and the female toilets smelt, were dirty and 1 of the 2 struggled to flush. Overall, a really disappointing visit that will not be repeated 😔

The place feels exactly the same as it did all those years ago. Really friendly staff that engaged in conversation and shared knowledge, the atmosphere was great with country music playing through the speakers and the food... My goodness the food was INSANE. We probably ordered more than we had intended but there were so many things we wanted to try. From the burnt ends on the starters, the amazing burgers and the loaded fries. Additionally my daughter loved the Mac and cheese from the kids menu and the portion left us with enough to take home to heat up the following day. Food focussed pub, but the food was the disappointment. Ordered beef brisket from the smoke menu, expecting a big meal. Ended up with an average tasting 3 thin slices of what could easily be rump, a small side of chips, a spoonful of slaw, and two slices of average (and slightly dry) white bread. All for the privilege of £18. I get that cost of living means restaurants have to be smart with their pricing but what was delivered vs what was ordered/expected were miles apart. If I set the fee based on what was served I’d pay no more than £12. Friends I was with agreed their meals didn’t live up the standard expected from The Swan. Larger shandy cost £5.25 too…service was slow, but friendly.

We booked a one night stay here. Not much in the way of real ale, mostly lager and cider, but the stout was nice. What we found absolutely stunning was our room. Room 5 OMG! We were amazed by what we found - it was a beautiful piece of history right beneath our feet. We spent and hour or so just lying on the glass and looking at every nook and cranny!! It wasn't particularly clean and cobwebs galore, old looking and needs an upgrade, but it didn't matter to us, it all felt querky and perfect somehow! Ben clean so that's all that really mattered. No hot water, lukewarm for a bath (No shower just a shower head) but the our attention was on the history beneath with perfect lighting. Not sure if in any other room - no-one to ask in the morning. Arrived at 7.45pm as we booked a table didn't get served until 8.16pm to be told they may have sold out of chicken and they would check. Waited another 15 minutes and saw the same lady serve another couple I went to the bar to see what was happening to be told she forgot to check if the chicken was available and forgot about us ? She advised us to sit and someone would be over almost an hour wait .....no thank u we walked out valentines meal ruined by so called dippy staff

We have been for lunch here a few times and have not been disappointed. The service is friendly - particularly the lady who is on duty on a Saturday lunchtime. The atmosphere is good and nice to have a view of the river Severn too. The food is delicious - from nachos, burgers and ribs - all so tasty and hot crispy fries too (too many places I’ve been to seem to serve them lukewarm!). Great to be able to support this independent pub.

Only popped in here for a quick drink. The bar itslef was large, and the staff were friendly. Real ale was avaliable, and there was a pleasant ambience in what was a steam-punk style setting.

Our first visit to this lovely dog friendly pub. Had a delicious lunch of hallumi and veggie baguette and messy fries with a lovely cider. Very sweet waitress who was kind to our dogs, which we always appreciate. Absolutely love Ironbridge and this is our new favourite pub

Went for a christmas meal but was disappointed and felt forgotten. Food was a real mixed bag, service wasn't great and where we sat wasn't great either. Some courses were lovely like a really nice hot dog with shredded spiced chicken; but then there was a starter of Kings prawns shell+eyes on and full of poo with a sticky sauce so you got dirty deshelling but no flavour on the inside but bitter poo so only one got tasted and the rest wasted (this was mentioned to the waitress but nothing done about it). The brownie took 2 hands for the poor girl to cut. No drink menus which was odd too so we were ordering on the fly. The worst part by far was the loud doorbell to say food was ready, you can only make a joke about it so many times.

Our first time in Ironbridge, so please we decided to pop in here. What a fabulous establishment, great choice of drinks, including real ales - so refreshing to find a pub that isn't owned by Marstons or Greene King! Family owned, and it showed. We decided to have lunch, hubbie had Cajun Blackened Rump Steak and I had the Halloumi and Mushroom burger. Wow!! The taste was amazing, so many great flavours, would definitely recommend both. Pity we weren't in Ironbridge longer! We will be returning to the Swan. Extremely friendly, professional and accommodating staff.

Stayed recently and had the same room as a previous visit. Sadly its a step over bath with a hand held shower. The carpet had not been vacuumed and the windows had broken catches. It's a lovely location and the food and staff are good, it's just badly in need of some upgrading.

What a great hostelry, good food, ( if you like barbecue) and a fantastic in-house lager. The staff appear efficient and helpful parking available nearby. Well worth a visit, the prices are reasonable

A lovely place right in the centre of Ironbridge. Food was great & the staff were so helpful and accommodating for us all, especially for my elderly grandmother who was with us. Big thanks :)

Ideal pub, situated on Riverside. Good decor, and good resteraunt. Music on Friday evening. Rooms very nice. Ours had glass floor where one could see old mill workings, very interesting. Inlaws had room overlooking River, another nice room.

We dropped in here last night in the hope of something to eat. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them! The beer was excellent, and the food arrived quickly and was also excellent. Cajun steak is a game changer! Would certainly look to eat and enjoy a pint here again when in the area.

Pretty poor and disorganised service - ordered a few drinks, before food, and missed one drink (after reminding them a couple times) for about an hour Sunday lunch was mostly good if you don't order the pork - mostly fat, unfortunately

Orders for drinks slow to be taken food took a while to come out about an hour, but was slightly busy had the pit master was really nice gf had steak she enjoyed hers to. The hand cooked chips were really nice. Paid bill at table then was accosted on the way out for not paying bill! Maybe a different manor of asking could be taught to staff I do get that some people might do a bunk but that's not how I roll..... would vist again tho.

Dropped in late on a Monday without booking so we were chancing our luck; however, on arrival we were greeted by very friendly staff who were happy to get us seated and fed. A gent called Emrys looked after us all night; he was more than helpful with our food order and his own recommendations. Nothing seemed too much for him, really added a lot to our night which we really appreciated. He checked in on us pre order, which had to be delayed due to my other half being indecisive but that wasn’t an issue. Checked back once we had our food and again for further drinks later in the night. 5* service throughout. Food and drink were spot on, couldn’t fault anything. The Halloween brownie was a fabulous end to my meal as well, again recommended by Emrys. Fantastic evening, won’t be long until we return!

Service abysmal, no one took out order so we had to order at the bar, staff cleared our plates from our starters after 25 mins, never asked us about our food, drinks never turned up that we ordered, food was bland and boring, really disappointed.

Went for lunch today. Lovely looking pub. Inside and out. We were shown to a table. Told someone would be over to take our order. Well that didn't happen. So i ordered from the bar. You get basic service from badly trained staff. Food plonked in front of you. No finger Bowls, for food that obviously needs this. Starter ok. Full rack of ribs which we both had. Almost tasteless dry. Gave up eating mine. We ask for another drink from waiting on /bar person. She forgot. As was a take away dish ordered. Shame really. Over priced for what you get.

Amazing food, the topped fries with mushrooms and blue cheese were divine! Food was well presented and delicious. Atmospherw was good and there was love music who interacted with the audience (S4TW). Good selection of drinks and large amount of seating indoors and out. Would return again to eat, drink and socialise if back in the area.

Having read mixed reviews we were a little hesitant to try the Tayleur Arms. However, our experience was great. We had the £10 2 course meal. Scampi and ham egg and chips. Both really tasty. Portions were small but just right for us. The apple crumble and bread and butter pudding, both with custard, were yummy. Service was really good, with an attentive young lady who took our order at our table (presumably as it was not too busy or, maybe, she noticed that my companion was blind). Place is nicely decorated and very clean (although neither of us used the toilets). If you have read the old reviews and are not sure about this place, give it a chance. You might be very pleasantly surprised, as we were.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Staff were helpful but the rooms are in need of updating, ALSO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT WAS ON OFFER ROOM WISE, and the showers don't work properly and require of a good clean for removal of the mould & hair disgusting

came in on Friday and I was so displeased with the service! the owners or managers was arguing at the till for so long, and flirting it felts so unprofessional. I was waiting for atleast 5 minutes to get my order, all whilst the pair was arguing all for mediocre coffee! Do not recommend
