We recently had an afternoon tea here booked through Buy a Gift. Firstly it was advertised the afternoon tea included half an ale but we were only offered tea or coffee. We had 2 small filled brioche rolls and one chicken wing and pork rib each. We had one scone with jam and very little cream each and half a small brownie and half a small cookie each. The food itself was nice but for nearly £40 we thought there was nowhere near enough.

The rooms are basic and in desperate need of renovation and there’s no soundproofing whatsoever from the noise downstairs - bring ear plugs, there were none supplied - BUT the staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful, and breakfast at the Malthouse next door was INCREDIBLE! Can’t really fault the place for what we paid 👍🏻

Had afternoon tea here as a birthday present, was not impressed with the service at all, we were seated at the table, after 20 mins of not being bothered with we had to ask for our drinks, the tea pot it was served in was chipped, the sugar pot had used sugar packets and spoons from previous customers, after another 10 mins we had to ask to order the food which we had been told was already put through not asked if we wanted to add extras as stated on the menu, half way through eating our mains they brought the dessert over to us and placed it on the table next to us for when we were ready, the afternoon tea comes with unlimited drinks, asking for another pot of tea seemed like it was a problem, ribs were very well cooked too. Was not impressed at all and will not be returning.

Groupon afternoon tea for me and the hubby. The food was very nice and more than enough, service was a little slow though. Thought the waitress could have been a little happier in her work... had to ask for the coffees which were supposed to be unlimited but almost felt guilty to have dared to ask for a second cup. Perhaps it was because it was a Groupon voucher 🤫

Could be and should be an absolutely amazing place to come and dine, but to be honest as a local i have seen it come from a derelict building to a real ale pub that sold banging honest amazing value for money homemade pub grub to something that is a second thought. If ya gonna be a smoke house, then do it properly.coz I could cook ya food better in the air, frier. My steel toe cap work boots have moved flavour and probably less chewy ( how u can make a burger pattie that chewy is beyond me). Chicken tikka, messy fries, just sauce no chicken. No attention to detail at all staff couldn't care less literally terrible. Ripping people off just because it's a Ironbridge oh I've seen cleaner toilets at a 4 day rave festival. To be honest I think you need to stop and have rethink and maybe take time to spend time with your staff and maybe give them a little training and encouragement coz u got an absolute gem of a property that you are letting go to waste.

Super lunch at The Swan. Day trip to Ironbridge, and had already looked at the eateries and decided on The Swan. Staff very friendly, great location, and quite a stunning period building. My aged dad has a very small appetite but really fancied a steak. 8oz would have been too much, but they tailored the meal to suit. He was delighted to be given a 4oz steak and cooked exactly to his taste. He was a very happy man, which made it that bit more special. Thanks for a really lively meal!

We won't be going back sadly. Toilets were grubby, so that was a first warning before we ordered! Table top was broken. Drinks menu dirty with food on it. Beer glass was FILTHY. Yorkshire pudding totally overcooked and oozing in grease - only had one mouthful. Beef was fine. Carrots and parsnips greasy. My partner's large Sunday Lunch didn't include the stuffing, but he didn't realise until we left. Nobody asked how it was during the meal. Probably better they didn't! Sorry to be so negative, but I had high expectations, obviously too high! Overall we found the place grubby.

Visited excited about the smoke house and tap room phrases attached to the pub. Sadly these words promise a lot but doesn't deliver. Tap room. It has more beers than a normal bar (ie. Has other beers other than Peroni) but nothing crazy or that many. A Brooklyn IPA was as crazy as it got. Smoke house. We ordered some burnt ends nachos. This is supposed to be over cooked brisket ends on nachos. What we actually got was flobby beef in batter on nachos soaked in squeezy cheese. Staff and service friendly, but sadly this place could be so much more.

Used the Taphouse today on a whim. Needed to arrange a half way meeting point between Bristol and Heswall for 2 families to reunite. Table of 8 for Saturday lunch on the run up to Xmas. Teens and kids as part of the group. Some picky eaters amongst them. The welcome was warm and friendly. The service was great. After ordering we probably waited around 25 minutes for our food which was absolutely no problem at all, yet they came to offer an unnecessary apology. The food (we variously ordered steaks, chicken wings, burgers, hot dogs, macaroni cheese) was some of the best pub grub we've eaten. Clean plates all round. My steak was rare, tender and the chips, mushroom and tomatoes made for just the right size lunch that won't leave you feeling like you've over done it. Prices were more than okay as well. Decent selection of ciders, lagers and ales. Probably need a greater range of 0% alcohol beers in the future as people's habits change but we coped with the real stuff...

Great location with views over the Severn, there's a definite charm to the Swan. The bar area is pretty smart with a good selection of beers. There's even live music on certain nights. Didn't manage to eat here in the evening, mainly due to the total lack of attentiveness of the staff. Patience ran out.... moved on. In terms of accommodation, the Swan feels a little tired and in need of a bit of TLC, particularly the bathroom. Old fashioned B & B springs to mind. Breakfast, which is at the neighbouring Malt Shovel, is pretty good.

Would not recommend the pit masters tray everything was so dry. Mostly disappointed with the brisket as looking at my friends roast dinners they can do it well but mine was dry and looked like shoe leather. When I saw the tables had towel rolls I started thinking they know how to do bbq but it was just all show, they don't even have a selection of bbq sauces I just got one little pot when the server finally delivered the last 3 meal at least ten minutes after the rest had arrived. Servers seemed disinterested no one came to check if everything was alright until well after we had finished and when I raised that mine was dry the serve just ignored me. No offer of more drinks nor the dessert menu it was if they weren't interested in us after we had placed the order. Also be prepared to pay for any changes my friend swapped rice for chips with the steak with the server saying he'd check if it could be done came back no issue then the bill arrived with a charge for the alternation and when queried we were told you should expect to pay for changes.

This was my local (although it wasn't that local) when I was a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed 16/17 year old. Such fond memories of being to told by the landlady to hide in the toilets because there was about to be a police raid. I even worked behind the bar for a night at age 16 when they were short-handed. Ah, happy times! Mind you, that was 28 years ago and things have definitely changed since then. The floors are no longer sticky and the decor is considerably more refined. I think, on the whole, it's an improvement. We did get a stale packet of crisps but we were immediately given a new one upon request so full marks there. We didn't eat or sleep there so can't comment on any of that but as a pub it's nicer than it was 3 decades ago and that's pretty good 😊

Our friends and ourselves each booked a room here as a base while visiting the area. The two rooms probably reflect the variable reviews posted on here. We were in room 3 , our friends in room 6. I can only review our room 3 which was absolutely fine. You must remember that this is not a modern chain hotel ,it is an old building which comes complete with nooks and crannies , creaking floor boards , narrow staircases, and interesting shaped rooms, not long chain hotel like corridors! Our room was larger than the norm, overlooking river, with walk in wardrobe, large bathroom, a double and single bed as well as bedside tables, hospitality table and lounge chair. Bathroom had shower over bath and beds were very very comfortable!, We received a very warm welcome and we experienced this warmth from staff throughout our stay. As with all older buildings you can always find fault if you look for it but we have no complaints . there is ample parking but even if it is full there is a free (after 17.00 hours) public car park a few yards along the road. Breakfast is also served a few yards along the road at the Malt House which we had no issue with, the breakfast was OK ,plenty of cooked options, though could do with more choice of cereal and a Yog /fruit option perhaps, not a complaint, just a suggestion. another suggestion is that the bathroom could do with a mirror, towel rail and bin, again not a complaint but an observation. The pub is in a brilliant position for all things Ironbridge, is vibrant with music on many nights, this was pointed out by our host but we did not find it to be a problem, some folk may but it adds to the ambience in our opinion. Plenty of options for dinner if you wish to dine in though there are plenty of options in Ironbridge if you want a change. Our friend in Room 6 were not quite so thrilled with their room although i hasten to add they still thought it great value for money , a view we fully endorse.

A tiny parking area had a scap car and staff parking stopping us from parking. The stair carpet was filthy and the room had no drawers, no cupboards and a tiny wardrobe with four hangers. There was a shower fitted to the taps of the bath but nowhere to hang it. The place was awful and then the last straw was we had to walk to the next pub to be served with a very poor breakfast. Booked a table yesterday, last minute booking. Said he could fit a table of 4 in. We arrived at 2pm, sat down had a drink. Ordered our starters and mains. After 40 mins waitress came around and asked us if we wanted another drink. We asked about our starters and she said “oh we have 2 chefs on today it’s taking a little longer than normal but I’ll check” this was the last time we spoke to her. Now after an hour we go to the bar and ask what’s taking so long. Ten mins later he comes and tells us our ticket didn’t go through so the waitress before either didn’t bother checking or just didn’t tell us. We got up and left after an hour and 20 mins of bad communication. The restaurant wasn’t even busy. A table of 6 behind us said it wasn’t worth the wait so that made it easy for us to leave and try one of their competitors and we had a great meal. The worst costumer service I’ve ever experienced. Ordered 2 Sunday Roasts 50+ minutes later we noticed tables that had arrived after us were being served, so managed to have a word with the waitress and she apologised and said the signal to the kitchen had failed on our order. And she would rush it through and it would take no longer than 10 minutes 17 minutes later still no food but credit where credit is due she came and said we could have a free sweet. Where do I Start. First of all the room was grimy and tired. Everything really could of done with a good deep clean and a new lick of paint. The description on the The Swan Taphouse says open till late and doesn't specify an actual time , but we were informed they were open till twelve at night when we arrived. So there was a consent noise outside the window with the beer garden being directly below. The key we were given was bent and we were instructed to forcefully yank the key out of its lock if it wouldn't come out. The bath only gave out Luke warm water and the water pressure was low. Bed side lights barley worked with the one bulb flickering and some of the plug sockets weren't working. The one member of staff we saw was generally lovely but that was the only member of staff we saw. Now we should of learned from the state of the room that the food wouldn't be up to scratch but we were tired and hungry so we thought we would risk it. I know, that's on us! We waited an hour for our food and it arrived cold and bland, surprising really when there was only around 8 people there. Now for the breakfast, when booking at the The swan taphouse you would of thought the breakfast would be served at the place you paid to stay in right? Wrong! It was served at a different pub and that wasn't mentioned when booking the room! There was nobody there in the morning to ask you about your stay as a member of there staff doesn't start till 12pm. We could of questioned it after arriving that day but with so much wrong with the room we dreaded to think what the rest of the rooms were like.

The ONLY redeeming quality were the cute ducks sitting outside by the river. Food was 45mins wait for something that spoons does better, for a smokehouse the ribs and chicken were really poor. Staff were non existent. Room was in need of a really good clean, bath had Luke warm water and no pressure, so after a day of lovely forest walk can't even have a nice hot bath. Couldn't actually tell if the toiletries have been reused as one bottle was full but the other bearly half and none were sealed. Back entrance was discussing and door was apparently left open all night. No where on the website did it say that the pub is closed till 12 and breakfast is actually next door at Malt house, but actually glad it was cos it was lovely. It's a bad sign where the included £10 breakfast for 2 is miles better than the smokehouse £50dinner at the location.

A large glass of Red wine..£7.20..Total over £22..sorry not impressed. I cannot speak of others on the menu..Steaks expensive. Fish and chips the same. Personally i wouldn't eat there again..but was fairly busy early evening, so i expect its choosing the right food. I stayed overnight and the room was very good..nice comfortable bed clean shower room..def recommend. And breakfast which was included i had to go about 100 yds to the Malthouse pub..no problem..and the breakfast was excellent.. so all in all i was happy with my stay.

Place was lovely to sit. Apart from that myself and my daughter were feeling not great after our meal. The drinks which were only a J20 and a Pepsi werent good. The glass the J20 came with wasn't cleaned properly and took 20 mins to come i had to remind staff twice we were there. The food was and i'm trying to be nice about this, awful. We ordered a kids cheese burger and double bacon cheese burger. I don't know what these burger patties were made of but it certainly wasnt beef. The consistancy of it was like Lunch meat, Tightly compressed meat not even resembling a burger more like spam on the inside. I've had better match day burgers at the carboot. I hardly ate mine. My daughter barely touched hers aswell. Not to mention the hour wait for it. The kids starter was ok and the pudding was not great i think by then my daughter had been put off by the burger to be honest as i can't see how ice cream can give you a dodgey belly after a couple of spoonfuls. A few hours on and my stomach feels terrible. Huge waste of 30 odd quid. As for the staff they were fine. Nice and friendly, just the food was awful. I didn't want to say anything as the staff already looked stressed as it was. Won't be going again which is a shame cause as i said it was a nice place to sit and the staff were friendly. I'm being nice by giving it 2 stars. The food was in the minus. Only propped up by the nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Timing was not great but i have had worse. Sorry guys but do better. You'd think paying £15 for a burger at a pub based in a world heritage site would of been better. You have people from all over the world coming here.

Stopped in for a drink and the drinks were fine. Music seemed a really odd choice - all American country music. Just seemed strange for the location, but maybe it's what they were going for. Bar staff couldn't be bothered to be friendly in anyway and left us feeling like we were inconveniencing them by ordering drinks. I guess it's because they were eager to get back to visiting with their friends seated at the bar. I wouldn't bother going back.

On arrival, we said we had a table booked. Really nice guy who served us; however, we were given a stained paper menu and left to seek out a table. Found our table but it was quite dark, so we moved. (Top tip, light the candles on the tables). Ordered burnt end nachos to start with which were loaded and absolutely yummy. No skimping on nacho sauce or Guacamole. The burnt ends just melted. I ordered the 8 hour slow cooked rib with pit gravy, bacon mash and pit beans. All really tasty but the rib was a tiny bit dry but the meaty gravy made up for it. The rib is huge, I brought a doggy bag home. My other half had the full rack of ribs which I believe came from a Brontosaurus 🦕. They were huge and the meat fell off the bone. A really good meal, fabulous company, change the seating (not comfy) and get better lighting. Oh and the ladies bathroom needs addressing; one toilet working, hole in the wall and dated decor.

Food was average, but what really killed the dining experience was the service from one specific waiter. Despite being near empty at the time we arrived, the food still took very long to arrive for each course. There was no drinks menu, and the waiter simply "remembered" the items. Lastly, when the bill arrived (we had spent near £100), we noticed we had been charged for extra things we hadn't ordered. The waiter that served us finished his shift and invited his mates to eat and drink and subsequently went to add their food charges onto our bill, which was simply disgusting. Did he think we would not notice? That was the final straw. Will definitely not be visiting or recommending to anyone I know.

Cobwebs in bedroom, sink tap turns opposite way. Lukewarm water when we ran the bath, very very uncomfortable bed hardly slept.Clean towels and bedding. Guest entrance up dark, grubby, smelly stairs. Guest entrance to side of hotel ,again really not welcoming and car parking was minimal or use public carpark next to museum. On checking in told breakfast in sister hotel down road, yet Swan do food? The breakfast in sister hotel was fantastic 1st morning and gentleman looked after us really well. Thankyou. The 2nd morning was totally different ,asked if wanted tea and coffee had to get it from bar ,yet others had theirs served to their tables. The breakfast was missing black pudding and the coffee just didn't taste the same. Really disappointed as this was a present for my birthday. The only positive was the room had a lovely view of river. The windows are in need of new paint.

We stayed here for 2 nights as I had the voucher for a birthday present. Well, it was NOT what we expected ,the stairs leading to bedrooms were grubby, dark and smelly. Guest entrance was via side of hotel again not a great way for your guests to get in and out. Our bedroom had a lovely view of the river. Clean towels and bedding. Parking... if you were lucky could squeeze on carpark ,otherwise 200yds up road to public car park. Ran a bath... lukewarm water! The tap on the sink turned the opposite way to what you would expect, shower head was grubby. No glasses in bathroom either. The bed well... it was the most uncomfortable mattress/bed I've ever not slept on. The bedroom windows were shabby needed a lick of paint. Cobwebs all over the room. We were told when we checked in breakfast was at the sister hotel down the road. Well our 1st morning for breakfast was amazing ,best part of stay. The 2nd morning it was not as good service. Ordered tea and coffee got told to collect from the bar, yet other customers were served at their table. Also missing the black pudding and brown sauce had hardly anything in it. Had we known we were going to have to walk to other hotel to get breakfast, when they sere food at the Swan we would have chosen somewhere else. The sister hotel lacks parking but from what we saw it was alright, it was getting redecorated due to a fire.

Came back for food following a visit for a drink the other week. Food was good, large portion and decent value. Bar staff a bit miserable and mumbled at us as opposed to being a welcoming host. Probably wouldn’t revisit based on this experience. A shame as a lovely spot by the river.

Stayed here 3 nights over Easter bank holiday weekend. Friendly welcome, young girl took us to our room and gave us all the info we needed for our stay. Nice room overlooking the river. Due to it being an attic room and ceiling height there was no shower only a bath with shower mixer, but we made do. Bed was comfy and room suitable for our needs. Breakfast was great & was served in the sister pub The Malthouse 100yds down the road, standard breakfast items with cooked breakfasts made to order. Friday there was some live music which was enjoyable with a nice friendly atmosphere. Had a delicious roast beef diner on Sunday evening. I would stay here again.

Prebooked a table for a catch up with a friend. So glad we did as it was super busy. We both opted for starters which is unusual for us and we weren’t disappointed. Love that there is an option for either skin in fries or chunky chips so me and my companion for each and neither were disappointed. Genuinely can’t wait to go back and try some more from the menu

Sadly this pub/restaurant is now closed .I went there with my family aged 12 to 76 . The menu had very good choices of starters mains and desserts. The food was beautifully cooked. The service was excellent, friendly but not overbearing or hurried. The pub is a very clean quaint old English pub with nooks and crannies. My brother and son loved the fact it was a free house and had a good selection of ales and beers. I will defiantly be going back for another meal on my next family visit to the Telford area.( 2014 )
