Having read mixed reviews we were a little hesitant to try the Tayleur Arms. However, our experience was great. We had the £10 2 course meal. Scampi and ham egg and chips. Both really tasty. Portions were small but just right for us. The apple crumble and bread and butter pudding, both with custard, were yummy. Service was really good, with an attentive young lady who took our order at our table (presumably as it was not too busy or, maybe, she noticed that my companion was blind). Place is nicely decorated and very clean (although neither of us used the toilets). If you have read the old reviews and are not sure about this place, give it a chance. You might be very pleasantly surprised, as we were.

I don’t normally do reviews but I believe this pub is worthy of one. After a friend recommended the Sunday carvery we decided to try it. Very busy when we walked in. Which to me speaks volumes. Felt comfortable straight away with the atmosphere. We was served almost immediately and was asked to take a seat by the coal fire until our table was ready as we was 20 min early. The food was lovely. Good choice of meats and the roast potatoes were better than my nans 😍. If you have never been then please go. Great staff. Great food. Great atmosphere. We will be back 👍

It was our Autistic daughters 4th birthday, the pub we were going to let us down. So we rang The Tayleur arm to ask if they could fit 14 of us in at short notice, amazingly with a jiggle around of tables they said they could fit us in at 14.30hrs. We arrived 30 mins early to a packed heaving pub, and within 15 mins our table was ready (15 mins early). We all had a very nice carvery which included the best couliflower cheese I've had in a restaurant for many years. The staff were very good and professional. We would like to thank the Tayleur Arms for saving our daughters birthday meal from disaster. Once we were home we realised we had lost our daughters milk bottle, I rand the Tayleur up and Sharne answered, she promised to have a good look around for us, within 5 mins she rang back to say she had found it and would leave it ready for us to collect. Very impressed with the Pub, food and staff. Thank you Tayleur Arm from zvince and Helen

Place was empty when we walked in, we had to wait at least 5 mins before staff arrived at bar even though we were calling out. Staff were friendly enough. Heard them talking about people with another customer, names mentioned, not in a good way. How did they know we didn't know that person ? Very unprofessional. Food was nice, only had fish chips and peas, proper home cooked chips yummy. Two for £15 offer. Husband said the beer was good. Not sure that we will be rushing back.

Had a table booked for 1830hrs, three of us, three different orders. Steak and kidney pie, Thai red curry, minted lamb shank, No Curry, No lamb shank Then we ordered fish and chips, and Salmon. !0 mins later we were told that there was no salmon, So replaced that order with fish and chips Why have things on the menu that you cant have, bearing in mind this was early evening?? 45 mins later, dinner was served The fish x 2 ( which I did enjoy ) was the greasiest piece of fish I have ever had, not just the batter, the fish was also greasy, because the fish was served on top of the chips, the chips were also greasy, Apparently the S and K pie was very nice This was in a near empty pub. Had I not been so hungry, or been accompanied by my 95 year old mother, I would have sent it back and gone to McDonalds, I had heard good things about the pub and the food. that was not our experience. Would not recommend, will not be returning.

Arrived at 4:40 pm on a Sunday, whilst just out for a drive. Informed kitchen closes at 5 pm. When I said 20 mins to go, was told "Oh. Sorry. Run out of food." We felt like we were an 'inconvenience', whilst being glared at by the few patrons in there. We moved on elsewhere. We will not bother going there again.

Had a table booked, left phone number to be advised if any issues which affected booking came up. So we arrived with friends to find the pub empty, told them we had a table booked nothing said, got offered drinks put on a tab, still nothing said so when we asked for a menu only then did we get told the kitchen was closed due to the chef being ill, so i asked why we weren't informed to be told if we had left a number they would have called.....i said it was the person speaking to us was the one who booked it in person and to check the book and hey presto phone number was there......reply......oh sorry.....not good enough and to top it off cost us 19 quid for drinks not even a discount as an apology.... Definitely won't be recommending it anytime soon.

Oh dear, what has happened to The Tayleur Arms? Thought we would go for a Saturday afternoon drink. Really wished we hadn't! We parked up easily. Entered the pub and the music was blaring. A group of staff were congregated in the corner. We asked what Sauvignon Blanc they had, we were shown Pinot Grigio and eventually a Hardy's VR Sauvignon Blanc which you can pick up in your local shop. Good selection of cider, Aspalls and Inches. I remember the Tayleur Arms to be quite an upmarket place to come to with a warm and inviting atmosphere. It felt tired, our table was sticky and there was zero atmosphere. A few more people arrived including three women who were vegetarian. The server told them that the chef could kind of adapt anything to be vegetarian 😲. Kids are allowed to play football inside and run around screaming 😱. They were the children of one of the staff Odd reggae music blasting from a massive speaker, not really in keeping with an old property. Sorry, not for us at all. Such a shame as it used to be lovely. It was characterless and felt tired and featureless! It was also very expensive for drinks.

All of our guests were blown away with the hot buffet and the hospitality that they provided all night. Everything was sorted and ready for us when we arrived and we instantly felt at ease knowing our night was going to be perfect. Me and my husband decided last minute to have dinner out. Very quiet when we arrived at 6pm, perhaps three other tables occupied. Not a great deal of choice on the menu. Despite not many being in we still waited over half an hour for our order. Didn’t mind at the time as we thought it better to wait for fresh cooked food. We both had gammon. Very basic, no side salad. It came with rock hard peas, the chips I’m sure had been either reheated or were overcooked. There were two small mushrooms and a quarter of a grilled tomato. The gammon itself was really poor quality. The two eggs were cooked well. Don’t usually manage a dessert but we felt we needed one to fill up on. These were over priced and very few to choose from. Won’t return again.

With a child who has sensory food disorder and will only eat fries when out for meals it does limit where we can go. Thankfully a new menu now includes fries so we decided to visit for my son's birthday. Myself and my hubby had their homemade pizzas and shared a portion of chips, which were also homemade. Everything was delicious! The chips and fries were massive portions, which was good as we couldn't get enough of them. My only disappointment was not having room for a dessert so I guess we'll just have to visit again!

Having never been here before but passed it a few times we decided to book a table for a meal on Friday night. My Mrs had seen on Facebook that they have a steak night on a Friday. I emailed a couple of days before to enquire about the steaknight menu, I received a reply stating they were putting the menu together and would forward it over shortly. I never received the menu but just assumed they were busy. We turned up on the Friday night and walked into the bar and were greeted by a member of staff. She told us we could sit anywhere, we were the only people there apart from a table of six sat in the bar area drinking. We chose a table and looked straight the menu. No steaks.... just a very basic menu, we asked if they had any steak.... no steak. Not wanting to try and find somewhere else we decided to order I chose a salmon dish and the Mrs chose a chicken burger. Whilst waiting for our food a dog wandered into the bar, a big smelly thing, possibly a rottweiler, not really what you want when your sat waiting for food. About 45 mins after ordering the food appeared, bearing in mind we were still the only ones there, and we were expecting something special. My salmon was slopped in a bowl with some sauce and boiled potatoes, the Mrs burger looked nice as did the "homemade" chips, but they were soft and soggy, almost as if they'd been microwaved. The food was OK but by no means anything special. We didn't eat it all, paid and left. Maybe they were having a bad day but we won't be rushing back, very disappointing. Would love to know what happened to steak night, and the steaks! 🤣

We decided to visit the Tayleur Arms on the way home from Shrewsbury. We had not been for some years but had heard that the food was good . We called on a Wednesday and the young girl told us it was carvery day but they could also cook a limited menu. Fish and chips was one of the limited menu, so that pleased my husband. We ordered fish and chips and a carvery. At the carvery, there was very good choice of vegetables all fresh, roast potatoes to die for, not frozen, a full large turkey crown, a large joint of roast pork and a large joint of beef. There was a wide choice of condiments. It was excellent priced at £11.95. The fish and chips potion was large, fresh and piping hot priced at either £14.95 or £15.95 . Far better value and quality than another pub we visited late last year.It was a shame that it was quiet, more people should give it a go. It was fabulous.

We visited here to celebrate a special family birthday having seen the menu online and on FB and we were looking forward to a nice steak dinner with all the trimmings. We were presented with a very basic menu, little choice, and no steaks!! I was informed that the website belonged to a previous owner who had left. We contemplated leaving but where else would we have found at 8 pm on a Saturday night! We ordered drinks, waited ages before our order was taken for starters, which I’d had to request the menu for, and most of us had garlic mushrooms which were served on horrible soggy bread. When our very basic and forgettable mains was being served I asked if we could order three bottles of wine, only to be told they’d got none. Again I complained, but there was no apology, no one seemed to care. We decided not to order desserts, enough was enough enough by then. My 75 th birthday meal was a shambles. It will be a long time before I visit here again.

Turns out they told us our table was booked when in fact it was not. Food arrives after 1 hour and 20 minutes. Not great, no cutlery given, missing items from our meal. Asked for another drink and they gave us watery coke. To top it off, when the bill came, they didn't even have the decency to knock a price of our bill for the dire service we recieved. The manager was abusive when we explained why we were not happy and called me and my mother in law names. He was drunk as I saw him drinking beer at the bar the whole time we were there.

There was a lack of communication throughout and appeared to be lots of other people waiting long periods of time for service, food and to pay their bill. Tables were also left dirty for the entirety of our stay which wasn’t pleasant to see. The food was unfortunately also not amazing, although it looked nice. For starters the garlic mushroom bread was really soggy where I presume it had been left for a while sitting in the sauce, the roast dinner stuffing and Yorkshire puddings were burnt, mash was lumpy, meat was fatty, there was not enough veg to serve the table and not all the menu items were served. I would not recommend this pub and probably won’t be going back :(

DO NOT GO HERE. I went for Sunday lunch with my family this afternoon. Table booked for 2PM. 30 minutes passed still no sign of our starters. Turns out they told us our table was booked when in fact it was not. Food arrives after...

I would give one star if I could. Appalling service, mediocre food and rude staff. Full package of failure really.

Service is appalling with potentially the longest wait between courses I've ever experienced in a restaurant. I wouldn't mind the wait so much if there were open lines of communication to explain but there was nothing of the sort. But🤞🤞 they learn more the longer they're open. The manager is very defensive, both in person and online. The responses posted are quite comical to read. Very unprofessional.

New management, beautiful evening meals, homemade lasagne, steak cooked to perfection, it was very busy but still a great evening. Will be returning, lunch menu looks great.

This has re-opened under New Management and the opening day Sunday lunch was excellent and reasonably priced too. Had the Sunday Roast Beef, Yorkshire pudding and veg. Gravy was really tasty and finished with Home Made Chocolate Fudge cake. This alone was worth the visit....

Connor approached me to supply him with a linen and laundry service about 7 months ago. We duly obliged but having spent thousands on setting up the contract we are still waiting for a payment. He basically conned us out of £4000 at a time we are still vulnerable due to covid and energy cost increases - he should hang his head in shame

Supposed to be staying here 21 and 22nd March got to the hotel to closed doors ,we where only glad the gentleman across from it was going about and he told us it closed the doors 2 weeks prior to us going, so it gave us time to hunt for another hotel. This was a gift from my son with one of these 2 nights bed and afternoon tea. We are not very chuft that no one got insomuch with us.

We arrived here for pre booked stay on 13 Feb 2023. It was closed, locked down. We booked into another hotel and met a man who had been permenantly staying here. He said it closed down two weeks ago, and he has just moved out!!. We travelled nearly two hours to get here, a message or email informing us would have done !!!! It's a no star but you need to put one to post to save anybody else who has booked here wasting their time .

Me and my partner booked in January 2023 for a date in February 2023, with a gift voucher worth £140 given to her by her nan. We called up, they'd sorted the dates and told us we were good to go. On the day we arrived (after travelling 60 miles), the hotel was closed at 12:00pm. We couldn't get through on the phone, so we went to nearby Shrewsbury to kill some time. We returned at 3:00pm to still find it closed. After knocking at the door, we finally managed to speak to someone who turned out to be the manager, who looked like he'd just gotten out of bed. He told us there was no gas or electricity (other reviews on here state similar excuses when people have turned up and it's been closed) and he assured us he would sort it. We reluctantly returned home and rang 20+ times, only to be cut off each time. We tried emailing again, but kept recieving a generic "we are closed" automated email and their Instagram is hardly used. Even the voucher company we had to go through to try and get our money back couldn't get in touch, even after a week and so we LOST £140 because of this poor excuse for a hotel. On top of that, we got left a request to review email from their website and even if you add a 1 star, it automatically changes it to a 5 star review when posted to their site. Believe the other poor reviews on here and avoid.

Booked in for the 9th of Feb 2023 at 6pm for 6 people. All showed up just before 6 (2 of the group travelling over an hour) the whole place in darkness, tried calling to no answer. Got a confirmation the day before of the booking. I had no email, phone call or even a message to say they would be closed. Absolutely livid, hugely unprofessional. Won't be trying again and will be telling people to avoid the place. Birthday for my mum was ruined as at that time we couldn't find anywhere else close that had availability.

One star is optimistic. Booked here a few weeks ago for a special occasion (hen party afternoon tea) for 21 people. Once I announced to the group where the afternoon tea would be, I got a call from a family member who knows the owners saying "Amy you haven't paid have you, because they are extremely unreliable and will cancel on you last minute or you'll turn up and they will just be closed, no notice", I just don't want you to be let down" I'm like surely not with a large group for a special occasion, they wouldn't just let us down, especially after the discussion we about another venue letting us down but low and behold! Last night I had a call at 18:03 saying they are cancelling the booking with less then 24 hours to find a new venue for 21 people! They said its due to covid, however I am sceptical due to the phone call I had warning me this will happen!! I mean if they genuinely do have covid then I hope they are ok and make a full recovery but I'm pretty sure it was an excuse!! Completely unreliable place, definitely won't be booking anything here again. Such a shame because it used to be lovely. Thankfully I obviously anticipated this happening and booked another venue, thank god otherwise we'd of had a very upset bride!

Pub was lovely and staff very friendly, unfortunately the accommodation was terrible. Twin room, one of the beds was really squeaky. Cobwebs and dead spiders behind beds and in bathroom. Shower hadn't been cleaned from previous occupant as used shower gel bottles left on shelf. Lovely idea to leave porridge pots and croissants for breakfast, until I bit into a croissant and noticed it was green with mould. Reported this to management who promised a refund. Still waiting 2 months on.

Awful. Restaurant was freezing most people kept coats on. Supposed to have the best chefs (green man chefs) they lasted a week as didn’t get on with manager. Food was cold after waiting 1.5 hours. Manager wouldn’t speak to us about complaint just sent bar staff who hid round the corner. This was our second visit. The first visit food was bland & slow serving (summer) will not go again

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND Staff were helpful but the rooms are in need of updating, ALSO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT WAS ON OFFER ROOM WISE, and the showers don't work properly and require of a good clean for removal of the mould & hair disgusting

The Beefeater restaurant chain is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends and family. Their menu features a variety of classic international favorites, grill dishes, and burgers, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a relaxed and comfortable setting. The staff is always friendly and attentive, making sure that you have everything you need to enjoy your meal. One of the things I love most about the Beefeater is their extensive menu. There's something for everyone, whether you're in the mood for a hearty steak or a light salad. I've tried a few different dishes, and they were all delicious. Another thing I appreciate about the Beefeater is their commitment to value. Their meals are reasonably priced, making them a great option for a night out on the town without breaking the bank. Overall, I highly recommend the Beefeater restaurant. It's a great place to enjoy a delicious meal with friends and family.
