Booked table for 7 for impromptu engagement celebration for daughter and fiance. Lovely food, attentive service. Sat in covered patio area, which was a little breezy but when they closed the sides was rather hot. Prob recommend eating inside. Cosy ambience inside. Toilets clean and easily accessible. Slight issue with the bill at end but was quicklying resolved without fuss. Would recommend.

My friends and I booked the why not for Sunday lunch. We got there to be met by a lovely, smiley waiter who saw us to our table. Took our drinks order and brought the menus, he was so very nice and friendly. Took our drinks order followed by our food order. Food arrived piping hot, I had the chicken wings which were absolutely delicious followed by Sunday roast beef which came on a hot plate , it was so very tasty. Very nice location, fabulous views great staff and food. Thank you 😊

Had a meal here this evening with a few friends. Seemed unusually quiet compared to 'the why not' it used to be! Main guy behind the bar was rude. Atmosphere wasn't great. Food was average, didn't even get our meals checked and then sat with dirty plates on the table until we left an hour after finishing our meal. Such a shame this place has rapidly gone downhill as we have been eating and drinking here since it reopened. WAS a lovely place to stop for a drink and bite to eat and bonus is its dog friendly. Staffing issue or not the people working at that time should still be polite to customers as without customers you won't have a pub!!!!!! We left feeling very disappointed!

Hired the marquee for a 40th birthday party for about 50 people. Was absolutely amazing! Everyone has complimented the food as it was delicious. The space itself is great, Molly coordinated with us to set the tables up how we wanted, the outside bar was opened for us (although my guests kept going inside for the ale so we did shut it down to staff the indoor bar better, which the pub agreed with us before doing), we were able to put our music on very easily on the pubs system and the bar staff were really friendly. A large event can be very stressful but Molly and the team made it stress free! We were also very lucky with the weather and were able to spill out into the garden a little which was lovely. Will be back again for any big events in the future.

Good food, staff very attentive and friendly and helpful. I have given it 2 stars because I ordered a strict gluten free meal. I was asked if I was coeliac, which I am. After about half hour of leaving I began to feel very ill. 2 hours later I was terribly sick and spent the rest of the day in bed. If they advertise they can do GF then it should be! It is very disappointing and means I can no longer trust them to eat there again. But add that to a very unhelpful, disinterested member of staff who couldn't have cared less when I phoned to advise them should any other person needed GF. I actually wasn't complaining just advising should they have made a mistake. His attitude was very disappointing and not the slightest bit interested in any of it or my health and well being. No apology either! Sadly I won't be eating there again and any coeliac's out there be very careful.

We had a family meal there tonight (12th June 24), The burgers and curry were good but unfortunately my husband ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad as a main & it was just plain embarrassing. Hardly anything to it & chicken was in little cubes, not even a breast worth. It cost £14 & there was about £2 worth of food in the dish. We sent it back & they added more cubes of chicken but it was still unacceptable & totally not suitable. When we got home my husband had to have something to eat! Very poor indeed. Staff very friendly and good service so just disappointing to receive the rubbish meal.

We recently had the room a the back of the room for my daughters baby shower. David and his team were very accommodating from start to finish. The staff were extremely polite and nothing was too much trouble. All dietary needs were catered for with no hassle. The food was great and a good selection of drinks available. The grounds at the back are safe for children and pets which were also allowed. The only thing I can say is that the car park isn't a big as what it could do with being, but that was my only problem in what was an extremely enjoyable event. Also I wanted to say thank you to the previous people who very kindly left their flower arrangements on the tables.

The venue itself is beautiful and looked fab when we had decorated it (booked the marquee) The food served was amazing! Huge variety and hot, tasty food. There was lots left over due to the amount served. I was advised to cater for slightly less than the numbers confirmed as there would be a lot so catered for 45 with between 50-55 attending. Now for the negatives At booking we were advised that the room takes 40 sitting and 60 standing which was perfect. We advised that we were planning a DJ and live music (singer) and were told that the music speakers would need to be directed inwards due to neighbours and that the music would need to be turned off at 2300 when we could move into the main pub. This was not a problem at all. We were also asked if we wanted the marquee bar to be open and definitely said yes as it would keep everyone together and prevent people having to go to the main bar (in the restaurant). On the day of the booking we arrived at 4pm to set up as directed but when the events organiser suggested putting the Photo Booth in the extension (were the marquee bar is) she advised that we weren’t having that as we had less than 60 attending. I didn’t argue this at the time as I was thrown (the maximum was 60) and I should have highlighted my concern at this point. I also didn’t want to cause problems and just wanted to enjoy the celebration. She assured me that this wouldn’t be a problem as the restaurant had very few bookings so it shouldn’t affect anything. The evening amazingly well with the DJ playing a few tracks to create the atmosphere and get people dancing. We then had the delicious food and the singer began her set. From 9pm the restaurant manager repeatedly asked that the music be turned down and stated that they were getting complaints from the restaurant! There was a dispute between the DJ/singer and the events coordinator about this and then she approached me to ask that the music be turned down - I did say I would ask the DJ to play quieter music after the singer but I wouldn’t interrupt her song. Following the dispute there was a bad taste left and people started leaving so we concluded the evening at 2210 and arranged lifts back to our home to continue the party there. The coordinator spoke to me and said she was “mortified” that I wasn’t happy but placed the blame on the DJ who had been rude to her (afterwards- he said she’d been rude to him when he’d said that he was employed to create a party atmosphere, she had said “that’s not my problem mate” and this was why he responded badly). I did speak to both the coordinator and the deputy manager the next day and gave feedback: if the venue want to advertise as a party venue they should ensure that the Marquee bar is available and staffed, this will more than likely prevent the restaurant users from complaining (although how miserable are they?) secondly they could advise people using the restaurant that there is a party happening (this was booked 6 months in advance). The rules for music are that live music can be amplified to a crowd of less than 500 between 8am and 11pm so we were well within this period. The music was not anything out of the ordinary for a party and definitely not too loud although not background music (if we’d been told this was all that was allowed we would have booked elsewhere). I’ve had a day to think about this and although we made the most of the situation and did enjoy ourselves, I really feel the experience regarding the music and bar was unacceptable. I would recommend this venue for events that don’t include music (not a party) I have been told by the coordinator that they’ve never had this problem before and have hosted parties but I struggle to see how ours was any different. I do think that the main concern was the complaints from those dining in the restaurant but this could have been prevented with either better communication with them before they booked or even having the marquee bar available. Having spoken to the deputy today it would be good to have some feedback.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Since we moved house to live locally in February have been to the Why Not Inn 11 times. Every time the food has been excellent, the staff attentive and friendly and the atmosphere great. We booked for the Christmas dinner menu with our friends on Saturday after telling them how wonderful it was… wish we hadn’t bothered now! … we were shown to our table and a young man said would we like a drink … but we hadn’t got a drinks menu. He went and got one .. so we asked about cocktails, and he said he would have to bring us a cocktail menu… which he did… so we ordered our drinks : 3 cocktails and a cider. Our starters had arrived with the cider, and after we had finished we still hadn’t had the 3 cocktails. We hadn’t seen any staff either. The Ham Hock Terrine was vile… really grainy and gristly and hard to eat. Poor quality. When the waiter collected the plates we said we had only had one out of the four drinks. The waiter chased it up. Our cocktails finally arrived . We all had the turkey dinner option … and it was utterly disappointing. It took ages to arrive. The turkey was gristly and full of cartilage, and pretty tasteless. The meagre vegetables were hiding under the meat, tiny amount of carrot and three tiny sprouts on my plate along with two half roast potatoes and not much gravy. We were waiting for separate bowls of maybe cabbage, parsnips, green beans, cauliflower cheese etc, but no, the four child’s portions were all we had. I asked for some mint sauce and they brought a tiny pot of mint jelly (not the same thing). We were finding it hard to get the attention of any waiting staff… they were quite happy chatting at the bar but getting their attention was impossible. We had to keep calling out when they were whizzing past to get any assistance. We asked to order more drinks and this time ordered two more cocktails and a dark rum and coke. Drinks took some time again, so we chased up again with a passing waiter. When the drinks arrived, the waitress put them all down on the table alongside us. She said “one Bacardi and Coke “ and we said no, we ordered a dark rum and coke. So she walked off with the Bacardi and left the cocktails on the other table. Finally she arrived back with the proper drink and then gave us the cocktails. ! For dessert, which again took ages to arrive, we had three Christmas puddings with custard and. “Black Forest cheesecake” …. The Christmas puddings: each bowl came with two tiny catering flat puddings (like medallions), one on top of the other, with a teaspoon of custard around the edge. The puddings were compact and hard to swalllow. We asked if there was any more custard and were told chef said he would make some in 5 minutes but they were going cold already so we said to leave it. We left the puddings also. The “Black Forest cheesecake” (which gives you images of an indulgent dark cherries and chocolate cheesecake dessert) was actually a standard catering stock berries cheesecake, again pretty bland and nothing to do with Black Forest at all. By that time we had had enough, waiting all evening, being ignored, poor overall service and dreadful poor quality food. We were so embarrassed. The staff on duty were all very young and it seemed overwhelmed … not that it was that busy for half the night. It wasn’t really their fault. Looks like a lack of training and experience, thrown in the deep end. The management clearly underestimated the resources and experience needed for a Christmas dinner menu, even though it should be easier when you have most of the diners preordering and eating off the same menu. So after recommending The Why Not regularly to family and friends since February, we really do feel disappointed and would not recommend their Christmas dinner menu. It was shambolic and poor value. We were offered reduction in the bill, but it was a poor night. We did tip one young man who was trying his best but didn’t have much support. Dreadful .

I am one of a group of 18 friends who went to The Why Not for the Cristmas Lunch Menu today. Despite there being room inside, we were stuck out in the outside "tent", which had no atmosphere and was very cold (we asked if we could have another heater, but it never materialised so we all sat with coats on). Despite all food being pre-ordered, the service was very slow and it took ages for everyone to be served each couse. Many of the main course meals were luke warm (especially the Turkey Dinner), although, to be fair, I had Salmon which was hot, but another friend and I had to wait until all the other meals were served. It took ages for the tables to be cleared between courses. (Although the servers were pleasant, they weren't very well trained.) With the cost of the meals, our group paid out almost £500 for a not very pleasant experience - we won't be returning!!!

Having been many times over the years and generally had good experiences with both the food and staff, but this is now probably the third time in a row we have been disappointed, mainly by the poor service and long wait times for both drinks and food orders. I don't know if its just a slower time on a Sunday that we go and staff are changing over but there is just a general feeling of staff not being interested or wanting to to be there - we had a lunch that was ok after order was eventually taken, was hoping to order a dessert but just gave up and went to the bar to pay after trying to get attention and waiting with empty dinner plates for what felt like a good while. Given there were maybe 6 tables total that were occupied so far from busy, this was just really disappointing - I think we'll be giving the Why Not a break for the foreseeable future I think.

Pre Covid we visited this Inn regularly because the Manager, Esther, was warm, friendly & efficient. Her staff were well trained & were equally welcoming providing a high level of service. The food was superb. We returned after Covid to find a change of Management; very poor service & barely edible food so 1 yr later we called in today to see if anything had improved. The Manager was friendly & attentive. After taking our food order he brought us our cutlery but my fork had 2 dirty tines so he had not bothered to check what he was giving out. A young waitress who was clearly being trained....first day ? Being trained on a busy Saturday ?? replaced the fork without saying a word ie.there was no apology. I ordered the Braised lamb Shepherds Pie which was full of fat. The mashed potato & cheese topping oozed with oil. The green vegetables were plentiful & well cooked. My husband had the gammon but it was barely cooked. Although the waitress asked if our food was ok , my husband said 'Yes, mmm..., ok' but when I didn't reply she didn't say anything thus giving the impression that she didn't care one way or the other. What a shame ! A lovely pub in a scenic location spoilt because it can't decide whether it's there to serve junk food like tacos or traditional fayre. Please decide & present one of them well. Needless to say we will not be returning for atleast another year or so.

The Sunday roasts used to be incredible but now a microwaveable ready meal is better than this food. Avoid at all costs ! Note to Manager, employ service staff that actually know what they are doing and get a chef that hasn’t come straight from a McDonald’s kitchen ! Appalling in every area !

We have had some good experiences at this venue in the past but we were disappointed on this occasion. Poor and inattentive service, lukewarm food and uninspiring roast dinner with meagre veg. The staff seemed uninterested, didn’t check how we were getting on. Didn’t have any knowledge or information about menu choices and our waitress managed to get a pot of tea order wrong. It’s a shame as we were thinking of booking for Christmas but don’t think we will be returning any time soon.

We didn’t eat so I cannot add a review for that, but the beer options were great and the reception we had at the bar and indeed from the staff around the beer garden was spot on, lovely place and a lovely view too!

Been wanting to visit here for ages and chose a quiet Monday afternoon to drop by. Really nice pub with plenty of seating in the bar, restaurant, marquee or outside. Every member of staff we saw spoke to us and was polite and the sever was really genuine. Got our order correct also. Drinks tasted delicious (maybe because it was my first whisky in a year since giving birth). The food came and was superb. Nicely presented, fresh and REALLY tasty. We just had a sharing platter and some small plates to test it out and was not disappointed at all. I drive past here regularly and will certainly be back soon

Ran out of fish on a friday 6pm. Drinks took 15 mins plus to be delivered to table. Other item on menu not available either, and what we had was a bit average and not good value for money really.

Always a decent meal and welcome at this place with great family spaces available and a good menu selection. Dogs welcome too which is why we like to come here, particularly if the weather is kind, to enjoy the very spacious beer garden

Our family visited The Why Not for a 21st birthday party. The food was good but the staff were amazing (we had a minor upset) which the staff dealt with professionally and with compassion and kindness, especially Molly who went above and beyond to ensure the rest of our day was enjoyed. A mention also to Alan and all the other staff who were super kind and caring. Thank you we had a lovely time.

This is the third time of visiting, (belated farther day lunch) and I was very impressed. The previous two occasions I have had the amazing ploughman's lunch....outstanding value and difficult to finish! Great variety, lovely fresh carved ham although I would rather swap the pork pie (you already get a sausage roll) for a slightly bigger cheese portion TBH. Beer is fab...Timothy Taylor, Wye Valley HPA and my favourite Purity Gold....with many others as well. Anyway, lunch last Saturday was an amazing pork chop, with smashed potatoes with chorizo and brocoli. Great churos and Nutella cream to finish with a great coffee!! Definitely a place to revisit again and again! Great walks along the ridge and down to Alcester for those who want to make a day of it, or just sit and admire the endless views from the garden......or smart interior if its raining 🌧 😀!

Absolutely beautiful food! Service was top notch too. I had the wild mushroom risotto - it was delicious, I also had eyes bigger than my belly and had cheesy garlic bread (which the staff very kindly put in a take away box for me to take home)! For pudding we shared an oreo cheesecake which was lovely too! 😍 110% recommend.

Thunderbolts and lightning 🌩 I booked the marquee for my 50th birthday party thinking it would be fabulous July weather, lovely and hot. Literally as I set foot in the pub there was a massive thunder crack and lightning, plus torrential rain; no lights, no tills, no power and no Internet, you couldn't make it up 😆 The staff were amazing, they kept everyone informed of what was happening and the situation in the kitchen - 38 guests were fed and watered without hardly any delays. The entire staff team were brilliant- pleasant, polite, helpful and calm under the madness at the start of the evening. The food was good. The marquee was a great space. All in all it was a great night - thank you Why Not Team Xxxx
