We had a great evening at the Whitmore Tap pub quiz. The food was excellent and served quickly. Fantastic atmosphere!

Great food and lovely service. Somethings changed and it's much better than it used to be here. Will defo not leave it as long next time.

We wanted a pub that could provide good food and the opportunity to watch the football at the same time. The Whitmore Tap ticked both boxes. Continue to be a fan of Butcombe pubs, thanks again.

Went for Sunday roast with family. The upstairs dining room is spacious and comfortable. All three meals were well cooked and delicious, including the vegetarian option. Service was friendly and attentive. The new manager is doing a great job!

I went to the Whitmore for the first time and I was served by Rhys and he was very quick with the order as well as recommending jubel which I enjoyed. I will be back again.

Had a club meetup upstairs & there were very obliging

We booked a table online, but the staff hadn't checked so they had to scramble to find one. Disappointing! Food was good though.

Went in on a Sunday with my dad, seemed kinda quiet and relaxed. The roast was good (the veggie one was also good which was a pleasant surprise). The potatoes were quite hard though and seemed a little cold.

This review is for the Whitmore Grill, upstairs at the Whitmore Tap. We had a great roast here - food and service were lovely. The only reason for a lower rating on atmosphere was because we picked a quiet time - need to get the word out to get more people to enjoy the grill!

From a local sport pub to a posh fancy overpriced restaurant.

Update: just had our 2nd meal at the Whitmore Tap: We tried their Sunday Roast served in the charming upstairs space. It was among the best we've had in Bristol. Excited they have a vegetarian option, although we both selected the Pork Belly. Had 2 appetizers and the Broccoli Cheese as well. All items were excellent and we will return! I've just upgraded their atmosphere to a 5! We had a great burger meal at the Whitmore Tap over the weekend. Even a plant burger! Fries were terrific. It was crowded and noisy given the football match but everyone seemed to be having a good time. A bit challenging with the numerous dogs, one of whom was quite noisy. We imagine returning, but will likely check the football schedule first.

Nice enough. Thought we booked a table for bar food, we were in restaurant and told we couldn't have bar food. We decided to stay, food was nice, spent more than we intended to. Then disappointed to see another table get served bar food!

Truly the best steak we have had in our whole lives. A beautiful new dining space, beautiful food, great service. Would highly recommend!

We took our very close friends to the Whitmore Tap Grill on Saturday night and oh my, what a fantastic meal was had. The food was outstanding, the service and staff, second to none, a truly wonderful experience ,one that will definitely be repeated. We had the steak and lamb dishes from the bbq grill, which were all cooked to perfection and Soooo tasty. The sides of crushed bbq potatoes, grilled beetroot, wonderfull. ( although, the beetroot dish was on the small side and should have been larger for the price!) The baked cheese cake and Affogato for desert’s, were scrumptious. Butcombe have definitely created a hit with this dining room, above the busy, bustling pub below, magical.

I came here today to watch football and have a Sunday Roast. The staff were friendly and the place was very clean. I was pleased there was a vegan option for the roast, they told me the Yorkshire pudding wouldn’t be included but they gave it to me anyway so not sure if it was completely vegan. The roast cost just under £17 so I had high expectations. The wellington, gravy and carrot were great. There was a tiny amount of mash included and the potatoes were dehydrated. I did enjoy it but I have had better roasts for the same price.

An amazing meal with excellent food, drink and service. A menu that showcases a robata grill which means the flavours are literally fire! Will definitely be returning.

First visit to the Whitmore Grill and what an evening it was. For starters, we had the Roquito peppers, which are just incredible, absolutely loved them! Nothing more needs to be said here. Also had the smashed potato, which is incredibly flavourful with the perfect balance of salt, with black garlic aioli to topper, which is absolutely sumptuous. For mains, we had the Flat Iron and the Lamb roll. The freshness and sweet explosion of flavour from the pomegranate and mint salsa pairs perfectly with the lamb to carve out the richness that is typically experienced with lamb. The Flat Iron steak was perfectly cooked and has amazing texture. The balance between the spices along with the corn and parmesan cream is absolutely perfect. Would like to have tried more but there's always another time. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We had an amazing meal at The Whitmore Grill. I would definitely recommend trying it for a lovely meal of tasty sharing plates. Standout dishes were the peppers, smashed potatoes, steak and lamb.

I'm already a fan of Butcome pubs but the new Whitmore Grill, upstairs at the Whitmore Tap is a level above the others in terms of menu and quality of food. We all thought the food fantastic and good value. Highly recommend

The Whitmore Tap is already a very good Butcombe pub, but this review is specifically for the recently opened upstairs dining room - The Whitmore Grill. There's nothing wrong with traditional pub food, but the menu, food quality and innovation at The Grill is a level well above the norm. All 4 of us loved it, and very good value too. Highly recommended

Food was good, best starter for me was the olives in orange and rosemary, best accompaniments were smashed potatoes & hispi cabbage the lamb was delicious and so were the deserts, baked cheesecake with blueberries was my favourite and my family loved the hazelnut brownie which was served warm with ice cream. It was opening night and we all got our mains first and had eaten quite a bit of these by the time the accompaniments were brought out which hopefully they’ll speed up on because our experience would have been better if they had come at the same time. It was 50% off so we thought we try this place. Would have been disappointed at paying full price

Really good food and nice selection of pints !

I had a pint of Madri in this gaff yesterday that was simply spectacular. Such a treat getting a cold, clean crisp pint from an obviously well looked after line. With price these days being what they are, at least here the beer was top quality.

Spent an evening with friends after a busy day. The service was great, and the food was delicious. Both the chicken and vegetarian burgers were well cooked and full of flavour.

Went for a drink last friday and had a great time. Had a amaretto sour and a french 75 which were both amazing. they had bandeoke on which was good fun. bartender ella was super friendly. will be back soon!

Went to the Whitmore for a Sunday roast. Food was excellent and good selection of drinks. I asked for a drink that wasn't on the menu (Virgin Mary) and they were able to make it for me. The upstairs dining room is quieter than the pub but we like it.

We arranged to meet family here for a drink last Thursday 14th December around 4.30pm. As I was driving I had looked in advance to see what non alcoholic wines, if any , that you had. I was delighted to see on your web site and on your pub drinks menu that you had got a 0% Bottega listed. On arrival my brother in law asked for the non alcoholic wine. He was met by an extremely rude response from the barman. 'Don't even know what that is, we don't do it! ' My husband explained what it was and he again answered rudely ' I don't understand what you mean, don't even know what non alcoholic wine is' I showed him it on the drinks menu and he responded ' I've told you we don't have it!' We were so disappointed with this customer 'service' and the barman's wholly unwelcoming and rude behaviour . If you haven't got the wine maybe remove it from your menu. We won't be back after the service we received.

We had private use of the upstairs dining room for an alum drinks function. Great atmosphere, lovely staff who ran a tab for us and delicious food plates. Only not 5* all round because (understandably with no room charge) you have to go down to the bar for your drinks.

Well kept real ale, delicious Sunday Roast and friendly, efficient staff. Very nice indeed.

The Whitmore Tap made special arrangements to open at lunchtime on a Monday and cater for a group of 27 Bristol Rotarians who thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Thank you very much.

Great pub that sells craft beers

Bon choux de cocktails, bières ok, musique loud, et prix un peu chers. Mixed crowd, vieux et jeunes.

Came in on the off chance to watch the football. Staff very friendly and very accommodating to my needs whilst I was on crutches. Food and drink both very good. Would definitely recommend if back in the area.

A wonderful roast lunch, very tasty pork or beef

This is mainly about the fries (although about the beer also). The Kaffmann fries were nothing special. Just fries, black specks and salt. Kaffman implied so much more. The Butcombe Gold was poor (forgotten pipe cleaning perhaps). The only saving grace was the Goram, which was excellent! Oh, if you are planning to use the gents toilets, wear your wellies.

Recently Had a lovely evening at this pub , the atmosphere is great , my husband says the beer is fantastic!(and he’s a fussy beer drinker!) there was 7 of us enjoying a birthday meal out ! All the meals were hot and delicious , all arriving at the same time, so we could start altogether!! I have to say this was one of the best burger and chips I ve EVER had !! Hats off to the chef! I can also recommend the chicken wings! My friends Fish and chips looked amazing also !! I ll be back for that soon! The service was attentive , and impeccable, so we were able to relax and enjoy our night out!! Thank you 😊

Had an amazing Birthday meal with a group of friends. The food was really fresh and tasty. The menu was varied with something for everyone.Highly recommend a visit you won't be dissapointed..but don't forget to sample the amazing sticky date pud...

Delicious roast, wonderful bar staff. Couldn't recommend enough

I went recently for a roast with me and 5 friends. I had the veggie which was the best I have had in Bristol, my friends had the beef, they all agreed it was delicious. Of course we had some cocktails, they were so great and well priced. The service was great and you can see the chefs are working really hard in the kitchen X

Pints of ale are expensive and the Sunday roast had hard potatoes. If you can’t cook the cheapest thing on the plate, what can you cook?

Really, really good pub-style fish and chips. Tall tales IPA is a great pint too. Especially if, like me, you're not that into IPA's.

Had the beef roast here Sunday and it was immense! Good value too with the Butcombe loyalty card As usual for a Butcombe pub, good selection of beers and they have big screens for the football too.

I ordered one pint and one pint shandy and was charged for the price of two pints (£13.20 bear in mind). I paid and then questioned that they are charging for a shandy ( half pint of lemonade) the same price as a full pint which is wrong and was told, "well half a lemonade costs £2 so it's almost the same". No, if you are charging for a shandy, then charge the price of a half pint of larger and half a pint of lemonade. Terrible pricing from the pub which is wrong and ripping customers off, will hesitate to come back in the future. Shame as it's a decent pub.

Cracking pub, service is very friendly and welcoming. Shows the sport, had a great atmosphere when I went in there. Have good beers on tap, and the prices are decent for the area it's in. Decor has a modern pub look to it. It's well maintained and is a few minutes away from Clifton train station.

Made for a very pleasant Saturday afternoon spot. Good atmosphere, excellent food, and a fair few ales. Maybe a couple of negroni’s too….looking forward to another visit!

Excellent real ale pub. Been in here when it was Penny Farthing and it's much much better now. 4 x Butcombe beers on plus full choice of their craft keg lines. Had two halves both were very good. Staff on the day very friendly (duty manager was over from Cirencester). Don't think they do food, it's a drinkers pub.

Very poor Sunday roast lunch today ( 23/10/22). Can't seriously call itself a gastropub.At nearly £18 & £20 for a roast pork & roast beef dish, it was a disappointing offering. Hardly any gravy, tepid & tasteless. The roast potatoes were definitely not roasted. Asked for more gravy & apple sauce. Took another 5 min for watery offering of a gravy to arrive & but had run out of apple sauce!! Waitress did ask how the meal was upon clearing our plates & I had to be honest even though I didn't want to make a fuss in front of my guests. Not sure she was that bothered but hope these comments go back to the kitchen. Avoid : spend Yr hard earned cash elsewhere.

Great staff, always has such a lovely atmosphere, the Sunday roasts are SPOT ON! Beautiful pub with some great events upstairs, the open mic nights are free and worth venturing out to. The comedy club is always great fun and silly.... and the quiz is the best.. Definitely worth booking a table for the quiz for a laugh on a Tuesday night.

Politely asked for a pint and was met with a very rude and abrupt what comment and I politley again requested a pint which I was told I had to wait and the pint would be bought to the table by the very rude female employee not the way to welcome customers

For a pub owned by Butcombe there wasn't a single ale on draught when I went. Also the Butcombe lager was off too. Made for a very limited selection. Service was slow and it was very hot in there (could do with a fan or 2 for hot days). Does have a few tables outside which is difficult to find in the centre of Bristol

Was great - now absurdly expensive. A pub, with 16-20 quid mains. That includes things Like burgers and fish and chips costing most of 20 quid. Some pints are over £6. Avoid at all cost with close by alternatives

Lovely pub, but I really didn't enjoy the vegan burger (bit too oily and dry, plus it didn't really taste of much).

Sunday lunch overpriced and dreadful meat- chewy and tiny quantities. Service terrible- just left at end of dining room, and so inattentive- had to get up and ask for everything- drinks, to order, the bill. Feel totally fleeced and a pretty terrible meal. And on Mother’s Day. Do it at home next time. To their credit when I called the next day to complain they were upset we had a bad time, said this never normally happens and as a result gave us a full refund, which I think shows real decency.

My fave pub for a Sunday roast, great veggie options with wonderful staff and service! Would recommend.

Great tap room style bar in up and coming area of Bristol with a contemporary grill restaurant upstairs.

Cozy, beautiful and very good food. The burgers can give the best burger joint a run for their money. It is run by knowledgeable and friendly staff, always up for a chat. Very clean toilets as well. 10/10
