Was disappointed that no Butcombe beers were available despite it being a Butcombe pub! Also wasn’t expecting to pay service charge at a pub. The pie and mash could’ve come with some Cavalo Nero or curly kale or any other greens to give it some colour apart from beige and brown. I find the non- alcaholic cocktails to be expensive seeing as they don’t have the cost of the alcohol. Besides all this the pub is still a great pub and the staff are delightful!

FAO Ella Hark! What revelry is this, where foaming ale doth kiss the lip like a lover long lost? Upon mine entry, a warmth did embrace me—not of hearth alone, but of mirth and merry company. The Guinness, dark as a moonless night yet smooth as a poet’s verse, did grace my goblet with a head so creamy, angels themselves might weep for envy. Each sip, a sonnet; each draught, a tale of bliss. The barman, swift of hand and fair of tongue, poured forth his craft as if ordained by Bacchus himself. Were I to find fault? Nay, for none doth present itself! A sanctuary for the weary, a haven for the thirsty—this tavern shall know mine custom henceforth, till time itself doth bid me part. Verily, five stars, and none less!

If Michelangelo painted pubs instead of ceilings, he’d have created Whitmore Tap. We came, we saw, we conquered Super Saturday—armed with Guinness, patriotism, and a thirst that only Ella’s legendary table service could quench. From the moment we stepped in, the atmosphere was electric, like a rugby scrum but with more beer and fewer injuries. The pints flowed smoother than a perfectly executed set-piece, and by halftime, we were convinced we could make the national squad (Guinness-fueled confidence is a powerful thing). Ella deserves a knighthood—or at least a player-of-the-match award—for keeping our glasses full and our spirits high. She delivered pints with the precision of a Sexton cross-field kick and had the patience of a ref explaining the rules to a football fan. By the final whistle, we’d had enough Guinness to legally qualify as Irish and enough laughs to last until the next Six Nations. If you love rugby, good times, and service so good it deserves its own chant, Whitmore Tap is the place to be. Would we come back? Only if we’re legally allowed to after the amount of Guinness we put away

A group of us were celebrating a friend’s birthday on Saturday and decided to hire a dart board at the Whitmore Tap. The interactive darts were great and there was a good variety of games to play. The pub itself had a great atmosphere all night and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. Molly the manager was really welcoming, setting us up with everything we needed and told us she was on-hand if we had any questions. Shout out also to Millie, Tom, Leon and Larry who were also super friendly and attentive throughout the night. I went to the Whitmore for my mother's birthday after having read some glowing reviews about food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, however, our experience was not a good one. We were led upstairs to what I thought would be a dining room and instead we found ourselves surrounded by giant sports screens and by people playing darts. There was nothing cosy, or warm about the atmosphere and in fact we were the only ones having dinner upstairs. The food was ok but not particularly good either. All in all it was a disappointing experience and I would certainly not be keen to go back.

Update: just had our 2nd meal at the Whitmore Tap: We tried their Sunday Roast served in the charming upstairs space. It was among the best we've had in Bristol. Excited they have a vegetarian option, although we both selected the Pork Belly. Had 2 appetizers and the Broccoli Cheese as well. All items were excellent and we will return! I've just upgraded their atmosphere to a 5! We had a great burger meal at the Whitmore Tap over the weekend. Even a plant burger! Fries were terrific. It was crowded and noisy given the football match but everyone seemed to be having a good time. A bit challenging with the numerous dogs, one of whom was quite noisy. We imagine returning, but will likely check the football schedule first.

We visited Whitmore Tap on Sunday 17th November for Sunday lunch. We were taken upstairs (which we didn’t know it had) to be seated in a lovely room. This is a Butcombe owned pub so my husband always enjoys Goram (no alcohol) beer on tap which is one of the reasons we like their pubs. The other reason is the lovely food. I had the arancini to start and my main was a butternut squash wellington. My husband had the Korean cauliflower wings and a roast beef main. The portions were good and very tasty. We were also shown the private dining room which seats up to 12 comfortably. This is a great space, location, food, drink and service, highly recommend.

The food was outstanding, the service and staff, second to none, a truly wonderful experience ,one that will definitely be repeated. We had the steak and lamb dishes from the bbq grill, which were all cooked to perfection and Soooo tasty. The sides of crushed bbq potatoes, grilled beetroot, wonderfull. ( although, the beetroot dish was on the small side and should have been larger for the price!) The baked cheese cake and Affogato for desert’s, were scrumptious. I was pleased there was a vegan option for the roast, they told me the Yorkshire pudding wouldn’t be included but they gave it to me anyway so not sure if it was completely vegan. The roast cost just under £17 so I had high expectations. The wellington, gravy and carrot were great. There was a tiny amount of mash included and the potatoes were dehydrated. First visit to the Whitmore Grill and what an evening it was. For starters, we had the Roquito peppers, which are just incredible, absolutely loved them! Nothing more needs to be said here. Also had the smashed potato, which is incredibly flavourful with the perfect balance of salt, with black garlic aioli to topper, which is absolutely sumptuous. For mains, we had the Flat Iron and the Lamb roll. The freshness and sweet explosion of flavour from the pomegranate and mint salsa pairs perfectly with the lamb to carve out the richness that is typically experienced with lamb. The Flat Iron steak was perfectly cooked and has amazing texture. The balance between the spices along with the corn and parmesan cream is absolutely perfect. Would like to have tried more but there's always another time. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We arranged to meet family here for a drink last Thursday 14th December around 4.30pm. As I was driving I had looked in advance to see what non alcoholic wines, if any , that you had. I was delighted to see on your web site and on your pub drinks menu that you had got a 0% Bottega listed. On arrival my brother in law asked for the non alcoholic wine. He was met by an extremely rude response from the barman. 'Don't even know what that is, we don't do it! ' My husband explained what it was and he again answered rudely ' I don't understand what you mean, don't even know what non alcoholic wine is' I showed him it on the drinks menu and he responded ' I've told you we don't have it!' We were so disappointed with this customer 'service' and the barman's wholly unwelcoming and rude behaviour . If you haven't got the wine maybe remove it from your menu. We won't be back after the service we received.

We were met by a very abrupt waitress who made us sit on a table for two, which had other occupied tables located very close to either side of us. There were several other empty tables where we could have sat without invading the existing customers privacy. We did not feel any of the staff were particularly friendly, the food was very over priced, and we took a very dim view of the waitress opening the front door and allowing the cold air into the restaurant on what was a very cold wet day outside. This made most customers feel very uncomfortable. We felt it was like they were saying, “we have had your money, so the quicker you leave now the better”. One customer got up and closed the door, and the waitress immediately went up to the front of the shop and opened the window. For how rudely we were treated, it’s a wonder they had any customers at all. We will not be going back !

Great beer, great vibes....... But £14.50 for a TINY plate of Nachos is criminal. I've had better value in London. And that's saying something! Again, lovely beer selection and excellent vibes. But yeh, not sure about portion size.

Great coffee in a great location. Spiral staircase to an “interesting” basement and toilet which was very clean. Friendly and helpful staff.
