This was a family event and the venue was selected for its location (we travelled from Rushden, Cambridge and Shropshire) and the website and reviews. We were not disappointed! The service was excellent. Delicious starters included bouillabaisse, smoked salmon & crayfish parcels and Thai king prawns. Mains that proved very popular were ham, egg and chips, 12 hour beef, and poacher's chicken. The quality of the fare belied what appeared, as we arrived in the dark, to be a fairly unpretentious exterior.

My Brother and my sister in law invited me to join them for dinner, I have never eaten at this restaurant/ pub before, the atmosphere was very nice, we had a nice table, the selection on the menu was spot on and the specials were mouth dropping delicious. We both chose Steamed Suet Jeff pudding, with vegetables and graveyard, but for starters we had Salmon filled with cray fish and cream cheese with a delicate light small salad around the ball of filled salmon. The was absolutely superb delicious and incredibly well presented. Throughly enjoyed the dinner, obviously and very talented head chef with excellent skills to produce high quality food like this. I highly recommend this restaurant but book well in advance as they are so popular (no wonder) plenty of parking space easy to get to. Sincerely Lester.

Dinner for three adults was excellent. Choice of ‘pub classics’ or ‘a la carte’ menu sections plus fish specials. Sat in the restaurant area, which is nicely decorated and has lovely atmosphere. Service was superb- attention to detail from all staff. Also has a cosy sofa bar, lovely outdoor seating area and big play area for kids. Can’t fault this pub!

In the summer we usually come to this pub at least once a fortnight and sometimes once a week - it was one of our favourite pubs in the area until today. I went to the bar to place our usual order for lunch to be eaten outside. As the price of the food seemed slightly higher than normal I asked for a receipt for the food. I noticed a 10% service charge had been added. I asked the young lad behind the bar what this was for. He said it’s because you are eating outside. Eh? We’ve never been charged this before nor was this charge mentioned on the.menus/website before we ordered. At this stage, I should have just asked for the food to be cancelled and asked for a full refund as it is a pet hate of mine for service charges to be added sneakily without being mentioned anywhere - if I want to leave a tip I will do so and have done so in the past but it’s not even like you take food and drinks orders outside at the tables like the previous landlord and landlady so what actually is this charge for? What a joke. If you need to charge more for food just add it to the cost advertised on the menu rather than upset existing customers. Anyway to add insult to injury the food came out a little too quickly for my liking. The chips were like luke warm and the sausages looked worryingly anaemic and were not very warm. I wondered if they had been badly reheated. Anyway I gave most of my anaemic, luke warm sausage to my dog and we left. We’d normally stay for more drinks. And also no one bothered to ask if our food was ok - they have done in the past. Sad to say we won’t be back!

What a beautiful English Country Pub serving an absolutely delicious Sunday Roast. The food was so fresh, high quality and cooked to perfection with a great team working there. Starters were very tasty and a perfect size. Three had Roast Pork and one Roast Beef. The quality of the produce and ingredients speak for themselves, the Yorkshire Puds are insane and all served with a great variety of vegetables. We will be back and highly recommend.

We have been going to this pub for nearly 40 years. Various owners and some good and/or not. The last few years have been very good but our lunch on Friday was the best ever. Beautiful sea bass with an amazing sauce and my husband's favourite, steak and mushroom suet pie. He was in heaven. Fabulous menu. I think I will have 2 starters next time. Couldn't manage pudding but espresso affogato with amaretto biscuits finished the meal beautifully.

First time back since lockdown. This is a no fuss venue. The chips are triple cooked but they don't feel the need to mention it. The sirloin steak came with a boat of pepper sauce without it being an extra. I had a pork escallop in crispy breadcrumbs with a barbeque sauce that was to die for. The beer is still up to standard and very reasonably priced.

I went to the white swan with family for a Father’s Day meal this year, nice setting and overall nice food. My Dad and I are both coeliacs and I had checked at the time of booking that there would be options for us and was told there would be. We both ordered the roast lamb and I asked for ours to both be gluten free, the waitress interrupted me to say yes fine we have gf gravy, as I was about to explain that they should remove any items that are not gluten free. She told me it was fine so I trusted that they knew what they were doing. When the meals were brought out I was very surprised to see a giant Yorkshire pudding on every plate, and gravy already on there. A separate jug of gluten free gravy was given to myself and my dad to go with our meals. I checked with the waitress and she went to ask the kitchen, then came back to say that the Yorkshire puddings were not gluten free. She asked me to pick it up from my plate and give it to her and then eat the rest of my meal. I explained that I couldn’t do that as I am a coeliac and would need a new meal. She was apologetic but it gave me absolutely no reassurance as to what was going on in the kitchen, I would never expect a chef to put Yorkshire puddings on plates that were supposed to be gluten free meals! In 6 years of being a coeliac I’ve not had an experience like this. I also had no idea what was in the gravy on my plate or the stuffing, nobody reassured me that it was all gluten free. After this experience I’m afraid I wouldn’t be keen to eat here again, the staff definitely need more education on allergies and dietary requirements, it’s really important!

On the phone I asked them if they can deal with my celiac dietry illness and they said yes. When I arrived with an old skool friend and my wife the chef Alex came and spoke to me and said that he will make sure that no butter, milk and wheat flour will be used in the lamb dish. This was totally the case when I ate and really enjoyed the food. No bloating etc afterwards. This pub, resto really cuts the mustard. Good foo Avant Garde food. I will be going back.

We had a lovely meal here at the weekend - lots of choice and each of our different meals were great, with big portion sizes for the desserts! The reason for my review though is due to the outstanding service we received. At around 9PM, my partner realised he had forgotten to arrange a roast dinner for his 94 year old grandmother the following day and although The White Swan wasn’t serving roasts, they made it happen for us. Better still, they served it up on a plate and said just bring it back when we can (we’ll return it in the next few days!). This is the kind of service that makes us want to come back and tell all of our friends so I can see many pub garden nights here this summer! Thanks also for all of the Covid safe measures and patio heaters, they were very much appreciated while it’s still chilly at night!

Mrs P and I had lunch here consisting of ham, egg & chips and fish & chips with "mushy peas". I'd made a reservation so on arrival we were shown to our choice of table and offered drinks. All COVID precautions in place. Service was very good and efficient. Good quality tasty food BUT mushy peas are not mashed or crushed garden peas! This isn't the only pub/restaurant to misdescribe their peas but I was gutted when my crushed/mashed garden peas arrived :( Oh, and the service charge? If you want to charge more for the food and drinks then do so but in my book adding a service charge is not cool.

My daughter and I went here last Thursday as it was my birthday and did not want to cook. I have passed this pub many a time and always told myself, I will go there one day. The pub was quite busy outside when we arrived, ample parking facilities. As it was raining we opted to eat inside. The lovely bubbly young lady took out drink order, which another equallly lovely and friendly lady took us through to the eating area so we could choose where we ate. It is currently a reduced menu due to the situation. We both fancied fish and chips. Best ones I have ever had, and we eat out a lot, presentation was good, food piping hot. We was stuffed after that, but a meal is not complete without a dessert, again, wonderful texture, think it had white chocolate chips in it as well. All that for £43 including drinks. We are not able to use the eat out scheme due to work, but more than happy to pay full price for this. See you soon.

Booked a table for 2pm. Good job we did. The place was full. We only live a couple of villages away, but haven't been here for ages. Read the reviews on here looking for a good Sunday dinner locally, and booked it on the strength of the reviews. Definitely lives up to all the 5 star reviews it gets. Gets off to a good start with the atmosphere as you pull into the car park with lovely countryside surroundings. Upon entering we were quickly and efficiently shown to our table which felt quite private even the the restaurant was busy. We both had the paté to start. 100% home made and delicious. Plenty of toast nice lightly dressed salad and even a portion of new potato. It looked more like a main course than a starter. The main was just as good. Excellent size portions and so tasty, without being blow your head off rich. Lots of little touches to the veg to make it special with delicious parsnips. Yorkshire was gold and crisp and light, cauliflower cheese was just how it would be if you were pleased with one you had prepared at at home like it with golden melted cheese on top. All of the staff were attentive and looked as though they were actually enjoying the job. Cheesecake was just as good. Another good size portion (enough for two after the large starter and main.) Didnt feel rushed even though we were one of the last tables to leave, and the bill didnt arrive until we asked for it. All in all we are now looking forward to returning when the opportunity arises. We visited the White Swan having not been there for a number of years. Interesting Bar set up and good real ales. Nice choice of dishes. Good service. Vegetables a bit undercooked for some of my group, this seems the modern trend and cauliflower cheese for Sunday lunch!!. Overall a good experience, a little more expensive than some local reivals.

My sister, brother and I met at the White swan on Saturday with my mum and siblings coming from Leicester and me from Southend on Sea. obviously this is a bit of a drive for all of us but it was right in the middle, but I have to say it was well worth it. A very friendly pub, the staff were so pleasant and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The food is fantastic, seven of us ate and you couldn't fault any of the meals. Great sized portions and beautifully cooked. Well done a fab night out and my mum loved it.

Booked for Sunday Lunch as we had been told that the food was really good and having stopped here for a drink previously and liking the look of the place decided to book a table. We were not disappointed as we were quickly shown to our table after ordering drinks at the bar. Service was excellent and the food was first class, great starters and good selection of roasts. Bear in mind the Swan gets very busy so booking is advisable.

We enjoyed lunch here with friends. The fire was lit and the bar was cosy. The dining room is bright and over looks fields. We were the first in but it soon filled up, and we soon realised why. Exceptional food. I had salmon/fish of the day, beautifully served on a bed of baby roast potatoes and Savoy cabbage, while the sausage and mash and the ham,egg and chips also disappeared rapidly. The trio of ice cream comes highly recommended, and the homemade strawberry especially so. Good crumble, and a lovely fudge tart also. We will definitely be back.

We had dinner here with friends - great food, great atmosphere, lovely staff and friendly regulars/locals. We look forward to returning soon and the food and drink was very reasonably priced which was a bonus! Lovely cozy bar area for pre and post dinner drinks in front of a roaring fire - perfect!

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel at home. This pub has a cosy atmosphere, with plenty of warmth from the fire and a good selection of ales. The restaurant does not disappoint either. The service was swift, courteous and rapid, the food and wine to a high standard. We will be returning for sure.

Lost for words at just how good this Sunday Lunch is. Unbelievable food in a busy but friendly and attentive environment. We sat by the wood burner till our table was ready listening to the banter between landlord and regulars. Had a really nice lunch with good food, the beer is excellent (Adams). Served direct from the barrel stored on shelves behind the bar. The food is good quality pub grub. Not far from the A14 if your passing. Staff very helpful and friendly.

We visited today and had the perfect Sunday lunch-roast beef and lamb cooked to perfection, really tender, and roasties as good as my own! Lovely fresh veg too, and delicious desserts. Friendly efficient staff, and warm welcome from Caroline the lovely landlady. Highly recommended for all family occasions.

Following my previous review, we had booked a family lunch to celebrate a birthday. The initial welcome at the bar was friendly & we ordered our drinks. We were then given a choice of two table locations - neither of which were ideal but we opted for one in the lighter area despite it being near a doorway and draughty. I was surprised that a table hadn't actually been reserved for us given that we had booked on our previous visit. We were given menus to peruse and a young girl then came to take our order. We explained that we required a serving of gravy without any onion flavouring for my Mum and also asked if the veg could be cooked until soft. The girl disappeared to the kitchen, returned to check our requirements and disappeared again. Next a young male came to the table to say that it wasn't possible to have the separate non onion gravy. We explained that this had all been discussed via a friend ahead of our visit. Still they were none the wiser. A mature woman then approached our table to ask what the problem was. Again we re-iterated our requests. She disappeared briefly and returned to say that the gravy was already made and that they couldn't make the separate non onion gravy but only offer gluten free. At this point my Mum, whose birthday we were supposed to be celebrating, just told them to forget it, cancel our order and we would go elsewhere. We paid for our drinks and starter that Dad had then departed. Is it really so difficult to mix some gravy powder? I bet they would have accommodated vegetarians/vegans but just because someone doesn't like onions or onion flavouring, they couldn't make gravy!!

We visited The White Swan today after googling local pubs that had play facilities for young children and we were extremely happy with our choice. The Sunday roast was fantastic and we all enjoyed it including my 4 year old daughter. The only small problem we had is that we were accidentally given the wrong dessert order, however this was quickly corrected and it simply meant we got to taste 2 things on the dessert menu and they were both amazing. The landlady was also outside helping to clear glasses, plates etc and was speaking to all the customers that were visiting, we felt was a real plus to our visit and made us feel very welcome. Fantastic pub and we will be back soon and thank you to all that work there we had a lovely afternoon.

Room was adequate. Ceiling height was a problem at times, and I'm not a tall person. Shower incorporated with bath, could not stand up straight to use it because of the ceiling height. Was prompted when checking in online if wanted a bath or shower, I requested a shower. Bar staff were efficient and friendly. Breakfast next morning was a bit Fawlty Towers! Ordered it and it was very slow coming out to the table. A full blown argument could be heard coming from the kitchen. When it did arrive, some items were hot and some were warm. Toaster had one section not working on it. I was already running late for an appointment, so couldn't send the breakfast back for heating up. Location is beside the railway station which is handy if arriving by train. But there is not much else around it. Parking is limited also for this establishment.

Ridiculous restaurant. You ring their telephone number with an answerphone saying we cannot accept your call!!! How about that for service!!!!! Never again

Poor quality food, seriously overpiced. More expensive than five guys with meat quality similar to a burger van. Both kids burgers were burn't. Nobdy around to complain to. Mediocre chicken burger and chips £14!

My wife and I went to this lovely pub with our dog for dinner. We booked a table in the bar area which is a real cosy bar. Everyone in the bar and the bar staff were so friendly. We sat there for a couple of hours having a drink plus dinner. The food was great, especially the home made pie. We will definitely return.
