We always visit the White Swan whenever we come to Hebden Bridge, we've been coming here for years. Lovely traditional pub, dog friendly, reasonably priced, good food and lively atmosphere. Lots of vegetarian options as well. I would highly recommend the White Swan to anyone visiting this beautiful town.

What a dump. Unfortunately on a busy Saturday afternoon we ended up in this smelly dirty pub Other cafes were full and so it was a bit of a rush to get something to eat. On walking in we should have turned right round and walked back out. We waited over one hour for toasties and sandwiches. The staff served locals ignoring us at the bar. The food when it finally arrived wasn’t nice and overall it was a very unpleasant experience. Avoid avoid avoid at all cost 🤮

The place smells as soon as you walk in . No rush for them to serve you and you will be forgotten about if the regulars come in. Over an hour to be served a toastie. Terrible customer service overall. I can’t believe out of all the lovely cafes bars and restaurants in Hebden Bridge we chose this one. Never again

I’ve been to the pub for drinks a few times and the bar service has always generally been slow but acceptable. However on my last visit the landlady decided to keep us waiting while seemingly not doing very much and then ignored us when someone else came to the bar after us. A good landlady knows who came to the (relatively small) bar in what order snd acknowledges that you’re waiting, never happens here. Once we were overlooked we walked out and had our beers at the Shoulder of Mutton and definitely won’t be going back to the Swan, ever.

Came upon this traditional riverside pub while on a first-time visit to Hebden Bridge, and stopped here for lunch. It's located opposite the historic Old Packhorse Bridge. Homely and olde-worlde inside, with wooden beams, tiled fireplace, lots of pictures on the walls, and a collection of beer jugs and copper utensils suspended from the ceiling. There's a beer garden round the back. It was obviously very much a community pub, a lot of locals were here, busy but friendly atmosphere, and a welcoming landlady who made me feel right at home. Good choice of cask ales, beers and lagers (had half a pint of Carlsberg). The lunch menu, displayed on a board at one end of the bar, was not extensive but had a nice selection of sandwiches, toasties, jacket potatoes and homemade cooked meals. Ordered the scampi with chips, peas and salad. Service was a bit slow, but the meal itself was well prepared and piping hot. The salad was crisp and fresh. Generous helping of chips, and they were freshly cooked and really good! At just over £10 for the meal and drink, it was also good value for money. Would come here again.

It was below average, service was extremely slow and how the landlady spoke to the female staff was horrendous and to do it in frount of the customers was so wrong of her. Food came and asked for ketchup, salt and vinegar to then be told there was none left. This wasn’t acceptable i understand it was bank holiday but this is under prepared. This was probably the worst experience pub wise during our short stay in Hebden Bridge. It’s a tired old pub which may have appear charming to some but in a word a little below par to be polite. The chap behind the bar was a bit of know all no nothing and a bit weird as he bust into song at random intervals? My bottled beer was hardly chilled which is never pleasant and even the pork scratchings couldn’t tempt me to stay beyond 30 mins. All the while what seemed like a youth club meeting in the rear of the pub, who I’m guessing just about covered their staff costs for the night? The landlady Liz I think she was called was a nice lady but sadly this place needs more than Wednesday night fish and chip special in my opinion.

Called in for lunch as pub seemed busy. Service was good and both young lads that waited on tables were lovely poliet and courteous. Food arrived without butter (jacket potatoes) so were a bit dry and the tuna and cheese were on the side of potato rather than on top. The only downfall to this pup is the ladies toilet which is mouldly as anything. This needs urgent attention its a health issue as mould releases spores into the air. Whilst I was sat in a cubicle I got hit on the head by a full flying toilet roll! Who on earth throws a full toilet roll at people in cubicles? Apart from that a nice atmospheric old fashioned pub. My burger was RAW inside.....immediately told the bar staff who offered NO apology only "ok" took my plate and and when it returned it was marginally better but I was so hungry I ate around the sides and left the rest...the toilets well....disgusting does not do it justice!! The only positive thing I can say is there was plenty of space outside to sit with our dogs on a very busy sunny Sunday. It is dingy and depressing- everything worn and neglected. Felt so sad about the swan and the waste of it's opportunities that I was going to offer to sort it myself. A day's cleaning and fixing would improve the place 100% but it's reputation would be a harder job. Although, offering other choices than a single screw top red wine - unpleasant- and serving in a clean glass would be a start.

Walked in on a quiet day with my wife and two little dogs. Ordered what was described as a cold IPA beer which was far from cold and tasted rank. Wife ordered half of cider which was well less than half measure and not very pleasant. There was so much clutter everywhere with easter eggs and christmas decorations behind the bar and tacky hand written signs slapped here and there advertising fish n chips. Staff were quite rude scruffy looking stood gossiping instead of cleaning up the dirty dump. The back room was unavailable due to being piled with old junk and as for the toilets! Black mould, not just a bit but lots! in both mens and ladies! Shocking! This place needs shutting down and should not be serving food whatsoever!!

Chef shows a lot of passion for her craft. I Ordered a chicken burger and she surprised me with a beef burger. I appreciate the chef's recommendation and was taken back to my childhood as she served me with what tasted a like classic "fair ground burger". I must also admire the front of house system. No messing about with printed menus or table numbers - just a women walking around the beer garden shouting "WHO'S HAVING FOOD!?" The chef then started to throw a pile of broken chairs into the bush near my table, you have to respect her attention to detail. 30 minutes later the food arrived and my gosh did it not disappoint. judging by the condition of the pub garden and the toilets I knew that this food was going to be hygienic and appealing. The chef came to the table and asked who's is this, waving a plate of fish and chips around to which my I said "that's my partners". And then she responded attentively with "WHO'S IS IT THEN." My partner said "fish and chips is me thanks so much!" And the chef screamed "NOOO IT's HOT" despite him not even reaching for it. Once again she must be a psychic! After she left me and my partner touched the plates and they were at most Luke warm. I truly admire that she is looking out for customers with sensitive skin. I would recommend coming here and eating to anyone and please do not miss out on using the toilets as they are squeaking clean. Thanks so much the white swan for the classic pub experience. All the negative reviews are liars. best pub in the world

Nice traditional pub setting with very affordable prices. A lot of black mould in the bathroom where baby change facilities are. There was a mix up with our order which meant our food went to another customer - resulting in over an hour wait. During the incident staff didn't acknowledge a mistake and played it off as long serving times which just made our experience worse as we watched a table tuck into a meal 5 minutes after being seated, whilst our children were playing up due to hunger... Of course these things happen but a simple apology when they realised what they'd done was all it would've taken.

Imagine you’re travelling home and stop at Hebden Bridge because you have fond memories of it. Then pay for 3 hours parking. Then find this old pub and waste an hour of your life/time waiting for a Sunday dinner you would scale at the most 2/10 for the boiled potatoes. That’s it. My partner says the pork was ok. The Yorkshire puddings were ? He thought it was like a school dinner. Plus mint sauce made with yoghurt or mayonnaise or something? Moudly toilets. Plus a barmaid who you keep hearing telling her regulars she is that hungover she wished she was dead. Plus when you follow someone? to the toilet you wished you were. 😄 Never again.

Half hour later I'm told they couldn't do a sausage and tomato toastie but could a sausage and tomato sandwich. Now I'm no chef but surely you make a sausage and tomato sandwich and put it in a toaster. Over an hour we waited for 2 sandwiches after asking several times where our food was. Glad we didn't have a meal as they were kids portions on a small plate. Toilets were a disgrace. If your idea of a traditional pub is a grubby interior, disgusting toilets, long waits for mediocre food, then your in luck visit The White Swan. When we walked in our initial thoughts were to walk out, we soon wished we had!!!! Waited over an hour for our food. My partners lasagne looked like sludge and only 5 chips to accompany it. My haloumi burger was tiny, not really cooked and bun was hard as nails, I was more fortunate with the chips, I had 7!!!. Plenty of complaints from other customers whilst we were there. One lady sent her meal back, her husband had no choice but to eat his meal whilst she waited another 40 odd minutes. When her replacement meal came she sent that back too, she demanded a refund and stormed out. When we asked why such a delay for our food we were told "no idea how long it will be, it will come when it's ready" Charming! We will never visit this pub again as once bitten, twice shy

Arrived at 12:45. Told no soup left so the soup is obviously not made daily. I’m sure nobody is eating soup for breakfast so working on the assumption that lunch starts around 12, they’re either not making enough or they’re using leftovers. Ridiculously slow service. Waited 45 minutes for 2 overpriced sandwiches. Slice of cake £3.75, wafer thin. Staff surly and unwelcoming. Not a good place to eat at all.
