The service was great and the food was tasty was going to rate this 5 stars but the menu was hard to read and was on the wall it would be better if they invested in menus that you can take to your table and read.

If your idea of a traditional pub is a grubby interior, disgusting toilets, long waits for mediocre food, then your in luck visit The White Swan. When we walked in our initial thoughts were to walk out, we soon wished we had!!!! Waited over an hour for our food. My partners lasagne looked like sludge and only 5 chips to accompany it. My haloumi burger was tiny, not really cooked and bun was hard as nails, I was more fortunate with the chips, I had 7!!!. Plenty of complaints from other customers whilst we were there. One lady sent her meal back, her husband had no choice but to eat his meal whilst she waited another 40 odd minutes. When her replacement meal came she sent that back too, she demanded a refund and stormed out. When we asked why such a delay for our food we were told "no idea how long it will be, it will come when it's ready" Charming! We will never visit this pub again as once bitten, twice shy

Not how I remember it when I last visited, although that would be a good few years ago! Appeared tired and in need of a good tidy up. Part of the room at the back of the pub was piled up with bags and other discarded items. Didn't eat there. We just called in for a quick drink. The wine was warm and when I visited the toilet it was full of black mould. Would love to see this traditional pub back to its former glory. Ok, if you're popping in for a quick pitstop.

Absolutely disgusting pub, we went for a meal today and waited nearly an hour for the food and coffee. When the food arrived, jacket potato with tuna, the potato was bland and just had some plain tuna on the side! Another jacket potato with beans was far too salty! It came that late that I didn’t even get to eat my meal as I had to leave to go to an appointment, left 2 others eating their meal. The toilets were revolting full of black mould. The dust and dead flies were everywhere. I even watched the barmaid water down diet cokes!!!!! Never again will we be visiting this pub!

The White Swan had a few ales on tap, but nothing out of the ordinary. It does however have the longest serving licensee, celebrating 40 years in the pub trade in 2021. Living in Essex we've obviously not been able to visit Hebden Bridge, but we often cast a thought of the Town and people that live there, and my first thoughts were always for Liz and the staff of The White Swan. With Covid and Floods I really did wonder how they had managed to cope and I did fear the worst. Drove up on Monday 16th Aug and headed straight to bridge, walked over it , Door open :) walked in with mask on, and when I removed it , I heard "Oh I thought it was you, how you doing ", I wouldn't get a welcome like that in any pub in Essex . Ordered drinks and sandwich..........only had to ask for the sandwich twice lol The place is Brilliant. Looking at other reviews this is definitely 'A Marmite' establishment but for me I love it We did visit many times more, even though we were staying in Halifax .......don't worry we used the bus. Maybe if I was a sucker on some bell tourist trip to Hebden ordering food (what's point) them I wouldn't like it so much. My advice to those who got this profile is to do one to one of the many wack gastro joints literally 50 metres tops away, and be an annoying genrifier there with your £5 pints and 'gourmet' burgers with an effing onion ring on top and a ceeing wooden stick through the middle of it. Got offered a place outside which was what we wanted. Then waited. And waited. Caught the attention of a member of staff who said "one minute". Great! I thought.. i had been waiting 10 mins already and was excited I may be served. She then picked up 2 glasses. Took them inside. Came back out. Picked up another 2 glasses and took them inside. Then picked up another 2 glasses.. I think you're getting the picture. Different member came to the door. Looked around. Went back in. We got up and left. 20 mins in. We wished the people behind us good luck as they were also considering leaving. One of their party already had. I know these are difficult times and do expect to wait but everyone in the garden was equally agog at the bar staff and their inability to stack glasses or walk with more than 2 things. She was still collecting individual plates as we walked out.. Good luck if you go there anytime soon :(

Not for me. Most places took advantage of lockdown by giving their place a makeover or at least a clean up. This place hasn’t seen a duster for I don’t know how long. Cob webs galore. Especially in the beer garden up on the pergola. Massive cob webs. I certainly wouldn’t even consider eating here. Filth everywhere. On our visit there was a large plastic box situated by the back door of the beer garden that was getting a lot of attention. It was full of fat and waste. Looked pretty damn sickly. There was also a very strong smell of dirty fat coming from the kitchen. Very off putting. We only stayed long enough to finish our drinks because we had already purchased them. If we had realised how filthy it was we would have left straight away. Although we did witness several people come in via the beer garden entrance and take one look and leave straight away. Sensible people. We won’t be visiting this place again.

I'm not usually moved to leave poor reviews, sometimes you just catch places on an off day, but this was a really poor experience. For Easter Saturday with the sun beating down the pub was woefully understaffed, it looked like there were two ladies on the bar and two in the kitchen, one of whom was also waiting the tables. After waiting about an hour and 20 minutes for our food order, I went to the bar and enquired. The bar lady opened the kitchen door to check and the cook told me it was "just coming". After another 20 minutes I went to check again, the lady waiting the tables said she'd go and check, then disappeared into the kitchen and didn't come back out. The same bar lady saw me hovering around waiting for an answer, so she went into the kitchen too and came out to tell me it would be another 15-20 minutes. So it clearly hadn't even been started more than an hour and a half after we ordered! I asked for my money back, the bar lady apologised and said they were short-staffed, I said they shouldn't accept food orders if they can't turn them around in a reasonable time, she just blamed the kitchen. They clearly didn't operate as a team, maybe even didn't get on, it was really unprofessional. It marred what should have been a nice day out. The beer garden was a real sun trap but quite untidy and cramped, some of the seating was damaged. This place could be a goldmine if someone cared about it and it's customers.

I was expecting it to be beautiful home cooking after the long wait, and couldn’t believe it when it came out. Raw and clearly the cheapest of cheap sausages that tasted like they’d been cooked in old grease, as did the accompanying egg. Cold oven chips. How hard can it be to make sausage eggs and beans correctly? Looking at other reviews, I now wish I had asked for a refund. This used to be a really good pub. Can’t believe it’s gone downhill so much. Will never go back.

Called in for a swift pint. Nice enough surroundings. It was a bit quiet and lacking atmosphere but still a traditional pub that you would return to.

We visited this pub as a family of 4 and our dog. I wish we’d taken notice of our first impressions and walked straight back out of the door.

Firstly Liz is the most respected and longest serving land lady in Hebden Bridge! This is not a gastro pub but a down to earth local pub for locals and visitors alike serving good food that is half the price of the over done up bars in Hebden. Liz has strived to keep the prices down and keep the atmosphere of a local boozer !!! All The other pubs in Hebden have lost there caricature over the years catering for the wealthy who can afford the abominable prices keeping the locals out ! Liz has watched 4 generations of locals grow up and she loves us all she caters for local birthdays party's and fund raising avents . The party on Saturday was an annual advent that has been held for many years and is enjoyed by all ages of the local community THIS IS HEBDEN!!! A quirky town with quirky residents! So the man in the gold shorts yeh so what ??? If you come to Hebden you will see people that you regularly people might think strange !!! But shurly you have read about the town and its locals and that's what brings the visitors we as locals say you will only see that in Hebden haha the party at the swan was amazing and everyone who attended had a fantastic night there was no trouble at all !! And Liz herself told me not an hour ago what a fabulous night it was !!! Sorry to anyone who was offended by the volume but this event happens twice a year in may and august always a fantastic turn out and enjoyed so please all you people with negative comments remember this town has suffered so much but Liz and the people who attend these party's were the people who were there knee deep in mud and crap who actually witnessed the carnage and pulled together to clean up this town for our visitors!!! And Liz is still standing even with her bad legs !! So give us a break dont complain just join the fun !!you never know you might just enjoy yourself!!by the way I'm a 50 year old lived in Hebden all my life stay young and happy see you at the swan❤️

We travelled over 100 miles in order to see an advertised band we had heard of...arrived HB to find an ear-drum bleeding 'rave' on all day in the pub garden. We did see the band, who tried their very best, but sadly the entire pub was full of noisy, drunken, wasted ravers, and this effectively ruined any chance for an audience and a decent experience for the band...made even worse by a local 'character' with a trilby, cheap jacket, shorts and wrap around shades who clearly believes he is some kind of rock god..he also seemed to be the pub's pot-boy, and certainly generated many empty pint glasses himself....this dreadful twerp with some kind of personality defect clearly wanted to be the centre of attention, pushed his way onto the mic, took the band's tambourine, shoved the singer aside in order to hog the mic...and simply would not leave them alone...even trying to talk to the musicians whilst they were playing! What a moron! He was openly smoking but no-one from the pub management stopped him pestering the band or smoking indoors.....The band has photos and video to show this.... Hebden Bridge might be a bit relaxed, but this reject was pushing the HB envelope! We've seldom seen so many badly drunken young people, and the mood was getting aggressive too...and whilst pubs need to milk every chance to make a buck, perhaps the pub should have thought about having two such different events on simultaneously. And we were told the DJ was going on until 4am!! Surely not...??? Other reviews suggest a pub in decline, which is a shame, but they have little to recommend them or justify staying in business. We will never go back there.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon August bank holiday, beer was ordinary, surroundings fine. Good location in the middle of Hebden Bridge. But when we visited there was a frankly ludicrous sound system in the beer garden that you could hear all over town. Amazing they are allowed to do this. When I asked a local they said that the pub has a reputation for not caring about the town, and that there is loads of discussion on the town forums about it. We found loads of other nice places that afternoon, so this one is to be avoided.

They have been playing loud banging dance music all day. We have asked them to turn it down, so as not to disturb their neighbours but they have refused. Not at all co-operative. The Pub itself is a run down hole and I guess that the music is last ditch attempt to bring some new customers in.

Ordered food for family of 3 adults and 3 kids. 5 meals came out and one was missing. When we went to find out where it was we were told it would be another few minutes as they hadn’t cooked enough chips. The rest of us had finished by the time the last meal arrived. As for quality, it leaves an awful lot to be desired. The portions were very small, the food was extremely low quality (think burger van standard) and I was surprised to find anywhere that still serves tinned peas in 2018! There was a hair in one of the salads and broken egg shell in another. We mentioned all this to the staff to give them chance to remedy but no response or explanation was offered. Overall, avoid like the plague.

Lured by the promise of a tranquil Award Winning Beer Garden we headed to the White Swan. What a disappointment - it's an absolute mess. Broken tables and chairs, unkempt flower beds. Dirty glasses, fag ends and rubbish strewn everywhere. It really could be lovely with some major TLC. The landlady blames it all on the floods!! Come on the floods were more than two and a half years ago and I very much doubt the water reached the garden anyway. Every other establishment seems to have recovered well - why not the White Swan? This place is just a mess.

Managed to park the car a long way away from the Swan on a wet, humid Sunday lunchtime (going to Picture House 3pm). Not too hungry but partner and I had baked potatoes, one with tuna and the other prawns. Both superb, in fact the best baked spud I've ever had. I know Liz gets bad reviews and they may well be correct. But I can't give a bad review of our food because it was lovely. Drinks well priced and good. We come in here quite a lot and always get a warm welcome!
