The White Swan in Derby

We booked a table for four and were happy with our dining experience here. Portion sizes just right, a good choice of meals on the menu and friendly service. We opted for the lighter portions which we found to be generous.

Took ages to get served. Seem lots of local people that seemed to get served straight away. It is a nice pub but is very slow service.

The best Sunday carvery in Derby I go quite often it’s such a friendly place and great value make sure you book though because it gets really busy

I have heard the food is excellent, but I was unable to book a table, decause no-one would answer the phone. Iefy a message as requested to, but no one called back Very Disapointed. I won't bother again

Slow service behind bar, the young girl was rude and ignored me at bar, couldn’t get served. Customers standing around , won’t be visiting again.

Arrived around 16.15 and no one was serving, another customer had to shout after few minutes to get attention! Got drinks and sat down, pub not busy at all….happy days. At 16.40 was then told our table was booked from 17.30, OK, no reservation on table but we just accepted that. At 16.45, just as was getting another drink, was told table was booked for 17.00. Landlord stood by and never acknowledged issue. We quickly drank and left. We will not be back. Poor service. Expected better.

Booked at table for 3 at 5pm on a Friday (could not do later as they were fully booked) - strongly advise to book otherwise you may well be disappointed. Food great as always and a good range of drinks. £53 for 4 pints, 3 large mains and a pudding - can't go wrong!

Nice selection of traditional style beers and standard Keg beers. it is a traditional pub that attracts regular customers.

First visit to the White Swan in Littleover. The pub serves pub food classics. But everything was very very tasty. The pastry on the pie was thin and crumbled. The beef melted in your mouth. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and the mash was buttery and smooth. It was all delicious. The pub was busy with good atmosphere but didn’t feel rushed. We will definitely be visiting again. Littleovers’ little gem. Thank you. See you soon.

First time i visited the White Swan was on August bank holiday monday . What i found was a lovely pub with great staff who gave my family and me brilliant and friendly service. the menu in the pub would be to most peoples tastes and comes at a very nice price . all the food we ordered was some of the best food ive eaten in a pub . this is one pub i will be eating ingain.

Had a rather nice Caffe Latte. Pleasant staff . The new colour really makes it stand out at the end of the street. I intended to go there for a meal before too long.

A delicious meal, every dish was beautifully cooked and presented, friendly staff. We’ll be back every Sunday we’re in UK

Easy to find. Small car park to side and rear. Nice friendly welcome from staff. The service was a little slow, however I think they must have us some last minute absences due to Covid. The two staff that were on were doing their best and worked hard to get around everyone. So no real criticism from me! The food was great. Served hot. Well prepared. Nicely sized portions. Definitely value for money and at the right price point. Would certainly return.

I booked a table here for lunch on Wed 18th August 21 after looking for places to eat in and around where my my mother lives. This lovely quaint little pub had the best reviews on here and I now know why! .. Lovely and helpful staff, fantastic food and everywhere is kept clean and tidy. I highly recommend this venue.

Sunday lunch is superb. Two platter sizes to chose from. Definitely well worth the wait. Tables are 'booked' on an arrival basis - pay and then when a table becomes available you are taken to your place. The system works well. Always busy though, but lunch is served until a lot later than most restaurants. The mid-week menu is great, also well presented, and a superb choice. The portions on the 'light bites' menu are generous. Great food sensibly priced. Great choice of traditional Ales, Gins, Wines and spirits etc.

Booked last minute... glad we did as busy even on s Tuesday. Food was excellent - our best pub meal in ages ! Freshly cooked and served piping hot - if ONLY all pubs managed to serve food hot ! Friendly staff and fab drinks selection - beers and gins by the dozen. Just wish we’d not eaten all day and then could have finished the generous portions. Unfortunately we live in Sheffield, so can’t go as often as we’d like.....but I’m sure we’ll find an excuse when poss.

Called in here on a day out with family. A good few people awaiting the doors opening at 12, would advise booking but we hadn’t and they got us in. Really nice carvery, beef perfectly pink everything nicely seasoned with lots of choice.. very reasonable price, would definitely recommend

Came to The White Swan with 2 friends for a quick bite to eat before having to go to an appointment. The menu was very varied and accommodated for all types. We had the burger, steak and ham and eggs. Very reasonable priced, very quick service and very friendly staff. It was such a shame we had to rush the meal as we would have loved to stay for one of their delicious puddings (and even had a starter). The food we had was excellent and will definitely be going back to have a nice relaxed meal when we get the chance. Would highly recommend.

Excelent Sunday dinner and pricing is perfect but a very long wait for a table even when you have booked and the building is very small so not much space.

My family regular visit the White Swan, especially on a Sunday for the best carvery around. The problem is that the pub is a victim of its own success therefore it gets very busy on a Sunday. My one and only gripe is that there isn't enough tables to cope with the high demand. When people have finished their meal, would it be possible to request they finish their drinks in the bar (maybe put a polite notice up during busy times). Some folk had long since finished their meals and were still chatting at their tables for a good 30 plus minutes whilst many people, some elderly, were having to wait. Sorry to have to make this point as it is a fabulous pub and fantastic food.

On our weekly travels around to different eating houses and putting our thoughts on Trip advisor we always tell it as we find it, and this is no exception. The White Swan in Littleover is one that we had not been too till today.What a pleasant surprise !!!! . Outside was clean and tidy , no cigarette ends to be seen, but it could do with a coat of paint. On entering everywhere looks very tidy and well set out. Even at 12oclock people were standing outside waiting. We found a table and looked at the menu. Good selection to choose from and a specials board.We both decided to go for the piri piri chicken. Good choice. By now the dining area was practically full. the food was very well presented and indeed was very good. I noticed the table next to us had the stew off the specials board and that looked amazing for the price. Really to sum up, very friendly staff , nice surroundings clean and the food was excellent. Why then only a 4 star you may ask ?. On this occasion there was quite a smell of cleaning product, Jays fluid or something similar. I got talking to a couple and they said it put them off sometimes. Now don't get me wrong, my sense of smell is not good and i could only just detect it but maybe they could have a look at a smell free cleaner. We will be back.

I have visited this pub a few times for drinks with friends and family . Last month we happen to glance at the menu and thought we have to come back and give it a try . So we did and have to say ... we are so glad we did . The food was Superb I had a southern fried chicken burger and my wife had surf and turf . My burger was spot on and the wife’s steak was medium rare as requested . Add to this the great pub atmosphere, the great selection of ales , beers , wines and spirits ( particularly the gins ) and its a winning combination. We definitely be heading back to try the carvery .

Well worth the journey from Brighton (although we were visiting family!) for a meal at this excellent pub, great selection of meat, veg (cheesy leeks and cauliflower), parsnips, carrots etc. and they'll make veggie gravy for you. Good range of beers and friendly service. Don't miss out...

Simply amazing. Great meats and the veg all fresh hot and delicious. Best I have ever had. Lovely pub.... I wish it was my local. Great atmosphere and welcoming. Every member of staff was professional and friendly. I think I might go every Sunday. Super range of real ale too. Just loved it as did all the other diners with me.

Unfriendly hostile locals and staff. Visited for the first time for dinner with a friend. Unfortunately we had my pet dog as my friend thought it was a dog friendly pub as had visited before with dogs present at the pub. The land lady very rudely informed me whilst pointing her finger at my dog saying dogs not allowed. I was very embarrassed with the way this was dealt with everyone in the pub staring. Left, never to return! Staff need to brush up on customer care and diplomacy skills I would suggest!

We called for Sunday Carvery with a friend staying for the weekend , he couldn’t believe how good it was , we already know , the meat is cooked to perfection with a massive choice of vegetables all cooked to perfection , friendly welcoming staff , this is the best carvery in Derby , a must visit !

I recently had some sea bass here and it was a sublime! I believe it was a special at the time! The staff here are welcoming and friendly and it’s by far the best pub in Littleover in my opinion. It also has some local ales which is great. If anything needs changing it’s some of the tables outside, just make sure they’re stable before you sit on them!

We came here for Sunday lunch after reading reviews and loved it! The carvery roast was probably one of the best roasts we've ever had! It's very cheap at under £9 each and the meat (pork, turkey and beef) are clearly decent cuts and cooked to perfection; so moist and tasty. The help yourself sides were superb! Homemade roasties, fluffy Yorkshire puds, creamy mash, creamed leeks, buttery beans, cauliflower cheese, carrots, stuffing and lashings of gravy were delicious but the crispy parsnips get a special mention as they were heavenly! I just about managed to finish my enormous lunch and certainly couldn't eat anything else for the rest of the day but it was delicious. We live 200 miles away, so it's unlikely we'll be able to return, but everyone else should definitely go!

I've been a few times and every re I have gone the chef has always provided gluten free food. There are lots of regulars that keep returning

Every time I go here I am never let down by the fabulous menu choice and the quality of pub food. Another great meal ... I had the lasagne which came with chips salad and garlic bread and my daughter had the tai green chicken curry. The portion sizes are huge too..

I managed to find a parking slot in the car park otherwise there is plenty of parking on the road. For a mid week visit I was surprised how busy the White Swan was with quite a few of the tables having reservations on them, but the staff managed to find me a table. Menu consists of what I would call traditional pub food which is right up my street with a specials board also. Two course dinner, starter and main went down a treat, tasty, ample portion size and best of all well priced. Staff were very friendly with excellent service and tables were turned around in quick time, well worth a visit.

I went to the White Swan today with 5 other ladies and enjoyed an excellent meal served by friendly staff who stayed cheerful in spite of it being one of the hottest days of the year. The pub itself felt comfortable, not too hot. The salads came with a selection of sauces, dressings and accompaniments. Steaks and chicken dishes were hot and served on hot plates.There was a good selection of desserts and ice creams, just what we needed on such a scorching hot day. Prices for the food and drinks were surprisingly reasonable. Thanks to the White Swan for letting us sit and relax after our meal without feeling we were outstaying our welcome. Definitely recommend this place to anyone.

We have visited on a Sunday for the carvery and on a weekday evening. Both times the food was excellent, huge portions and good value. The restaurant isn’t huge and it was packed both times. There was one family just finishing up when we went in the evening but everyone else was in a couple or a group, I wouldn’t say it’s a family pub. We can’t wait for the next time the kids are with their grandparents so we can go again!

Once again just had an amazing Sunday roast carvery at The White Swan. It is consistently excellent quality food.There is always a huge range of delicious vegetables, which is constantly topped up, and the gravy is simply immense.The staff are extremely friendly and you are received in a very welcoming way. Went on a Friday around 5.45pm. Very busy as always so if you want to be sure to eat, book a table. Prices are extremely good and food very good, Can't complain :) I have only marked it as cheap eats because it is so cheap for what you get :)

Our party of three arrived soon after 1700 hrs, so before meals had started, and so it took a little while for our order to come as you would expect. The staff were very friendly and the service was good but the menu surprised us. For a pub it was extensive and interesting but amazingly priced, value for money it really was. All our meals were excellent and despite two of our party ordering smaller portions they were still more than they could eat. Everything was spotlessly clean and there was adequate space to dine in comfort, brilliant.

My first time in this pub. It won't be my last and the next visit won't be far away.

I have not been in this Pub since my teenage years. I was very impressed with the decorations and the Quality of the Lunch we had. The menu was very varied and had light bite salads sandwiches all served with delicious chips and salads. The staff were very attentive and the menu was all very well priced. Worth a visit very nice atmosphere. Good coffee as welll.

After seeing so many positive reviews on Facebook we decided to pay The White Swan a visit. Sunday lunch was fantastic. It was our first time trying the food here & It’s the real deal home cooked pub food with a decor to match. Despite being busy the staff took the time to approach us & find a table within a minute of walking through the door. A bustling enjoyable atmosphere with great food. We’ll definitely be back to sample the menu during the coming weeks.

went to the white swan last night very busy and had to wait for a table the staff was very nice and friendly as soon as a table was free they came and got us great service and when the food came it was fab the nicest pie I'd had ever had the young chefs are great will be back for sure a must try place

I have visited The White Swan on many occasions and have always enjoyed the food, it is home cooked and served with a smile every time. The food is delicious... you have to arrive early because tables are taken very quickly.

My wife and I made our first visit to the White Swan with friends who are regular visitors. I was initially very surprised how busy it was but it turns out it was quiz night.

Carol was able to squeeze us in on their valentines meal night. 3 course set meal, all the food was cooked fresh and tasted delicious. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Appears a very popular pub as it was busy and people were turned away for food due to this. Parking is available at the rear/side of the pub.

We had been going to the White Swan on a regular basis for some years. Food always very good and a good selection of beers. However, one thing I couldn’t understand was there is a policy that you cannot book a table unless you had a party of 5 or greater. But when I have been there I have very often seen tables reserved for less than 5 places. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago 2 of us went for a meal but were told that there were no tables available even though there was an empty table for 2 and another one for 4 reserved. So these remained empty for the next 1.5 hrs. The lady behind the bar didn’t seem to care. After 30 mins we left and ate elsewhere.

This is a great pub. Fantastic ales... great food at a great price. The Sunday roast is delicious.. they put on live music. Sport nights on the tv's and always a good atmosphere ...

went for a sunday lunch carvery meal with my wife,and I'm pleased we did.The meal was probably the best we have had,the vegetables were cooked to perfection,as was the meat[I had turkey,my wife had gammon]both given 3-4 slices.the plates were warm,not cold as you sometimes find.The bar staff were helpful as we had called on speck we were shown to an empty table straight away.we will definitely be calling again

Been coming here just over two years and always well looked after. Wide choice of real and craft ales and food very good. Two TVs for Sport on Saturdays and all the Sky fixtures

We had been to the Swan once before for a Sunday carvery which was delicious, so thought we would book for our Christmas family get together. There were 11 of us in our party and it didn’t disappoint! Every meal came out hot and all really lovely. Staff very friendly and accommodating. We had an enjoyable evening and will definitely be back!

I, my wife and a number of friends have been regular customers at the White Swan for several years - ever since the current Landlord and management team took over. It's a busy, friendly Pub serving high quality, good value food and drink to regulars and visitors alike. The atmosphere - especially on Friday nights and all day Sunday - is friendly and, if it's your first visit, a loiter by the bar will likely end up with some banter with other customers. The lower bar is primarily the preserve of drinkers, with live sports on TV, while the lounge area is very conducive to enjoying a hearty meal with friends or family. Sunday Lunch is particularly worth a mention; It's busy, for sure, and you may have to wait to be seated. But as far as quality and value go, it's as good as you'll find anywhere. The Cask Ales are all excellent (at least 8 available at any time) and meticulous attention is given to the quality and consistency of all Beers and Lagers.

Thought that I'd better write a review as this place can't be kept a secret for much longer. I have been coming here for years, but never thought about writing a review until I was having a chat with some people that were looking for somewhere to eat that severed good food, a great selection of ales in a friendly atmosphere.

This is a pub of 2 sides. At front more casual with sport on large screen TV. At back more sit down for meal. The food is good value, good sized and tasty. Good beer choice and wine not bad either. Good place for a casual evening out

Found myself eating lunch here with my sisters family and have to say that it was very good. There is a large choice both on the light bites and main meals. I had a baguette which came with a salad garnish and chips. Have to say the portion was huge and although just pub grub, was tasty. Very reasonable priced too. There are not a huge number of tables so it does get busy.

I've visited the White Swan numerous times over the last two years and I can honestly say that the food here is fantastic, and the prices are very competitive! The menu is fairly simple but has enough options for all, with the great addition of smaller versions of the main dishes. There are also daily specials - such as pie of the day - which are add to the choice.The staff are polite and always happy to help, though they can be a little under-staffed at the busiest times. To my knowledge, you can't book a table for a party of less than four people, so you may have to wait for a table or get in early.The regulars can be a little rude at the bar with the obvious 'pushing in' to a queue, but don't be afraid to point out the error of their ways.Overall, a lovely little pub that still has a traditional feel which serves decent grub!

Had the Sunday carvery with my partner and was not disappointed. The meat was juicy and plentiful and the choice of veg and potatoes the best I've had. The Yorkshire puddings were big and obviously home made. A delight all round. Just make sure you get there early as there was a queue before the doors opened. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

We were taken here for the Sunday carvery by friends who live nearby. The place was very busy - always a good sign - but they were using an effective disc system to allocate people to vacant tables. The roasts were beautifully cooked and the portions generous. There was a good selection of vegetables, all nicely cooked and very tasty. The busy staff were well organised, efficient and friendly. Great value for money.

Great food. This is one of the only places we have been over the years where we have never had to send anything back, which is quite a feat. We usually go for the rump steak. The beer is always good and staff friendly and helpful.

Small pub, full of "locals", nice relaxing atmosphere. Great food, but a small dining room so I'd recommend booking- unless it's the carvery on a Sunday, then you can just wait. Carvery is delicious and a bargain at £8.They sometimes do nice little events like fireworks or have parties.

Excellent service, fab value for money and excellent quality. Meal options include standard and light meal with minimal difference between the cost, light bites are a decent sized meal and the standard are good for those with a hearty appetite quality not affected. Comfortable seating and dinning room.Located down a lovely country like road, what and black old style facia with pub slightly separate from dinning room.Staff were lovely too and couldn't help enough.

We eat here occasionally and always enjoy the experience. An updated menu and the facility to pay by credit card is a good improvement on what previously was cash only. A fine range of real ales makes this one of my favourite places. It does get busy but well worth a visit.

everything about the mucky duck (locally known) is excellent. the meals cater for tastes with lite bites mains and specials all priced as they should be at pub prices. reals ales change all the time again at good prices. good choice of wine. be warned if you wish to eat around 6 or 7 o'clock you my have to go onto a waiting list, it is that busy because it's so good. you cannot book for less than 5 eaters

It was an off the cuff visit , as it was a rainy night and we fancied pub grub . It was very busy, but the staff couldn't have been more helpful . We were soon sat at a table and served with good value and lovely meals. In fact the standard of the food was far better than we expected based on the price . It does get busy at weekends so book and don't leave it chance like we did

Visiting Derby Royal Hospital and googled nearest Sunday lunch pubs. The White Swan came up and had good reviews do we popped in, 3 adults and 2 kids. Place was busy but staff were very helpful, food was spot on and the service and overall atmosphere of the place was excellent. A local almost village-like pub yet friendly and welcoming to the passer by. Beers were superb as well.Less than £8 for a really decent Sunday carvery in friendly surroundings is great value. We'll visit again.

We frequently have lunch here as it's an easy walk from home. The food is well cooked and they have a comprehensive menu. One of us usually has the pie of the day and I have the liver and onions (which is delicious). Good portions and, usually, not a long wait to be served. Friendly staff and a nice ambience.
