The food was great l, really enjoyed the carvery. The meat was tender with lots of flavour, varied choice of vegetables. The man who worked on the carvery was really pleasant and made us laugh

Popped in for a quick bite to eat with family. Went to the bar and ordered. Whilst waiting for food it's quiz night and the speaker was so loud it was unbelievable and it was only us in that area. Asked for the sound to be turned down as my nans hard of hearing and they turned it up. Five staff members we asked in the end and it never once got turned down (it did get turned up though) so we had to sit in silence as none of us could hear eachother. I ordered the veggie burger with no salsa and no Cauliflower wings and it came with salsa, with Cauliflower wing and no bun. Sent it back, they scraped off the salsa and decided to serve it. Which is so bad, I know how long it takes to make a new one as I used to work for marstons for 5 years! Anyway after waiting yet another half an hour it finally came out, no butter for my jacket potato and the cheese sauce has either changed or ran out so it's homemade so that was disgusting. Paid £13 and ate a jacket potato with no butter. Awful food and staff that couldn't care less. Would not recommend this place. Thought it was finally starting to get better so we starting visiting again but no. Also to add there were a hell of a lot of staff on shift when it wasn't busy....unless the staff are not trained properly to deal with a few customers.... No check back either after all the hassle they caused. Don't recommend at all.

The food here is really lovely, portion sizes are ok, pricing is slightly expensive for what you get, although the quality was good, my chicken was slightly over cooked as was burnt at the bottom which made it crispy, apart from this the food was spot on. Service however is disappointing, we had to wait a long time just to receive our drinks, we actually received our starters before our drinks even came, we had finished our drinks before the mains came which meant we had to order more, we then had to wait 20 minutes to receive our second round of drinks, there were only two of us and it was quiet around the restaurant, not busy at all so really wasn’t excusable. My partner ended up having to go to the bar to ask for our drinks, when we finally got them we had finished our mains. I understand being a restaurant service is slower but it affected our experience. As mentioned food is great but service does need improving. The staff are lovely and were quick to sort out our drinks once spoken with.

Carverys are very overpriced for the amount and quality you get. It's over £5 extra to upgrade from a small to medium making it nearly £14 for a standard size plate. You don't get any extra meat compared to the small as they give you an extra slice but cut you thinner pieces (we ordered both sizes so I know this is true) My daughter upgraded from the kids to the small plate and got 2 tiny thin slices of meat so not sure what they put on the kids portion. You would think the price of the meat was coming out the chefs wages the way he reluctantly put it on your plate! The trimmings aren't anything special either, not much taste to anything. Definitely a rip off. They also allow dogs inside where people are eating I have severe allergies to animals and carry an epipen so I don't think this has been properly thought out and it's disgusting when people are eating with dog hairs everywhere. Won't be eating here again that's for sure.

The carvery was really enjoyable the best we have had for a long time The chef Richard was very polite and we told him it's not our first time but the best by far in the area. If he cooks the other meals as well as he does the carvery he must be a great member to have on board .Will be back soon .

Purposely went for a carvery. Couldn't fault it-had the meat which was delicious and there was much more veg options this time which was great.

Visited here on Sunday 30th of june 2024 at about 6.30 after a day out with my wife ,10 y o granddaughter and one of her friends. We were pleasantly surprised to find the carvery was still serving so opted for this , food was lovely and served up by Richard who was very pleasant and professional. Other bar staff were nice too and we ended up watching the end of the England match there . Will definitely visit again , lovely pub and staff.

2 out of 3 meals were good, I had hunters chicken and I think the hunter had experienced difficulty locating the chicken which had obviously enjoyed several years of life.

Decided to have the carvery - one meat and one vegetarian. The vegetarian meal (cauliflower cheese tart) was not very nice. The pastry was rock hard and the filling was tasteless! Add to this the fact that most of the vegetables had practically run out (and were not going to be refilled) it seemed a daunting prospect but eventually found enough to eat. The vegetables and accompaniments were ok 👍. I’m glad we didn’t pay full price and took advantage of a 30% off mains offer! I was surprised at the prices of the drinks too. I think £3.30 for a glass of coke is outrageous! The pub was ok - clean with friendly staff.

1st July! Just visited kingshighway derby! Good carvery! Would extremely advise not to have the sausage and mash! Over priced at £8.79 for a big dollop of revolting instant mash 3 sausages and a spoon of peas! Come on how hard is it to peal a potato? Wont be revisiting.

This place has well gone down hill. Staff are ignorant and service/food is bad. Tried to order meals off menu only to be told they had ran out of several items, totally bad management. When got food they had got was very bland and terribly presented. Not going back anytime soon. Alot better places to go to

We went to this establishment about 3 weeks before our visit on 12th June and was pleased with the meal and the service.The visit on the 12th was somewhat different and not as enjoyable. Firstly, only one side of the restaurant was open whereas the previous visit, all of the restaurant was open and we were put near noisy children. I know this is a difficult subject but people like to go out and eat without shrieking etc. Secondly, the service was particularly slow so from arrival, it was 45mins before the meals arrived and the restaurant was nowhere near as busy as the previous visit.Third issue was waitress was little careless and ended up putting several chips in my wife's lap. I know accidents happen but am saying this didn't help in meeting our expectations.If businesses especially hospitality want to keep in business, the product on offer needs to be good consistently.

Typical menu for this chain. I went for the rack of ribs served with chips and they were fine. Breakfast the following morning was freshly cooked and of a decent standard

Really calm atmosphere, food was lovely and was served within a reasonable time. Our waiter was Andrea and she was so lovely and couldn’t help us enough with our requests to meet our needs so our 2 year old could eat with little mess and ease. Absolutely outstanding service from Andrea, she’s a credit to the company.

We have just been to the,Kings Highway with friends for a much long awaited carvery. What an absolute shambles. We waited for half an hour to be called up to a depleted sad looking carvery. The service was slow. We ate our meal which was OK but sat at the table with soiled plates for over a hour. The staff never checked if our meal was to our satisfaction. Then again we had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to pay our bill which was wrong as we had been overcharged. Two hours later we walked out very disappointed. We won't be going back any time soon.

It’s such a shame. The carvers was lovely but we wait 20 mins just to place a drink order and then another 40 to be told we could go up to carvery counter. I know it’s early days but they need a better system. If it’s too difficult to manage carvery then just don’t do it won’t be coming back

The speed of service at this Pub was absolutely shocking,I’ve never been to a pub and had slower service,after being seated we had decided what to order.Drinks were first then Food.After deciding on 4 Carverys we were informed that their was only Turkey being surved. Therefore I had decided to change my order.The waitress then said she will come back but yet 10 minutes had gone and she was over the bar making small talk,Personally I find this very,rude and unprofessional.We had yet still not ordered food after being seated for 40 minutes.

1st visit never again!!! Drinks and food ordered via app... drinks took 45 mins to arrive. Food was terrible and took 1 hour to arrive. I’d also left my purse there so called the pub and the ‘gentleman’ said he would check with staff... he did call me back to say it wasn’t found. I recalled to say where I was sat incase they’d missed it - he was rude, abrupt and unprofessional.

Visited on Sunday with my family. The host at the door was really friendly and informed us of all the covid procedures in place in the pub. He took a drinks order for us straight away and then the waitress came over shortly after to take our food order. The wait was a little longer than usual but thats expected given the new rules pubs must follow. We didn’t mind as the staff were polite and informative. The food itself was great. I had a Carvery which was nice and hot and fresh. The beef was falling apart.

If I could give 0 stars I would. We waited 50 minutes before leaving. We were quickly seated and a drinks order was taken within 5 minutes of being sat down. Since then we have been completely ignored by all staff with the only information given is to wear a mask when not at the table and it is table service only. After 30 minutes we finally managed to flag down a member of staff and were apologised to and then told that we hadn't been served as they were extremely busy, they were not. We then gave our order of 4 small carveries and 1 medium carvery, not a difficult order by any means, for us to be left again with no information about the current procedure about getting our carvery. We managed to figure out that you have to sit and wait for the person serving the carvery to come and collect your table. After another 20 minutes of waiting we have left. Absolutely shocking service, we booked a table for a carvery at 3PM, arrived promptly and expecting food not long after for us then to be treated as though we didn't exist.

I would love to be able to give an in-depth review but with no one even acknowledging mine or my partners existence I can’t. 2 people sat at the far end of the restaurant, not sure if staff or not. We were spotted by them but nothing was said. Looked like the pub had been abandoned!!

I came with my family for a Carvery each. The food was not very nice at all. It tasted hard and like it had been stood all day. As soon as we had been up the food was changed to fresh which was disappointing. I told the waitress when she came to ask how the food was and she didn’t seem interested just said ‘I’ll pass on the feedback’. I won’t be returning. My kids and partner didn’t like the food either so it’s not just me being fussy. I also heard someone else say they didn’t like their food on the table next to us.

Visited with husband today for lunch for first time there. All staff were friendly and welcoming. I had carvery which was great and tasty. I had a small plate carvery...great value. If I'd had a bigger plate I would have still been there at tea time eating it. Loved the way the waitress came to us, apologised for interrupting us, to tell us that my husband's meal was nearly ready, so I could go and get my carvery, so we could eat together ....how amazing was that!!! Staff were even saying goodbye and thank you to us, although busy doing other things.......well done guys. We will be back and thank you..

I am sat writing this review while in the pub. There was a small menu choice. I asked for a jacket potato as I like to eat healthy. When ordering I was told they dont do jacket potatoes. My options were to have the fried chips or the mash that was full of full fat butter. The only option for eating healthy at this pub was the salad. When my meal came I had ordered steak and salad. I was given steak salad and chips. I had to send the steak back as it wasnt cooked to medium as asked. They took it back to cook a little longer. When it came back they had put it on the same place and the steak was now very well done. I went to eat the salad and it had dressing.g on which was not stated on the menu and not asked for. The only thing that I was able to eat was the steak. If you want to eat healthy when out I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. I am still hungry. Highly disappointed x

Sadly there were many things that made this meal a poor experience. 1. The meal was booked for a two hour slot - we received our meals 15 mins before the end of our slot and were told by staff that we needed to vacate the table asap.2. The food was horrible. Nachos started consisted of about 8 nachos! The steak's were tough. The carvery was passable. 3. There were only 2 vegetarian main meals - and one of these was not available on the day. 4. Finally, and importantly, the hygiene was lacking. The entry required people to collect their own menu off the entry table. I saw at least two people lick their fingers before picking up a menu from the stack of menus. Gross!5. The table we sat at was dirty, (I used my own anti-bac to wipe it down). There were used napkins under the table. The queues for the bar were too long. Women's toilets were dirty. Missing seat on one toilet. To be frank, I would have complained but there were so little staff available and they seemed too busy to disturb. I hope higher management do better to help their staff make this a more pleasant and clean experience.

We visited the kings highway for a carvery and we were not disappointed. Food was great, we felt very safe and relaxed, and the staff were very welcoming. Well done Kings Highway, keep up the good work! 🙂

Went in today for the first time. Could see it was busy but we found a table easy enough. Really impressed with the way they are dealing with the COVID restrictions. Lovely new manager think her name was Tara. Oh and the meals were bang on. Will defiantly be back!

Although waitress service was good on the whole, we did however have to wait close on to a hour for our food (that’s a long time for a fidgety 6yr old), and when it arrived it was disappointing. The worse part of the evening was the rudeness from a woman behind the bar who I assumed to be the manageress...absolutely shockingly rude and no people skills whatsoever, she could definitely benefit from some extra classes at charm school to improve her customer service skills if nothing else. In my opinion her attitude brings the place down, I won’t be taking my family back there.

Chose a place we could sit outside and safely distance but unfortunately we Didn't feel safe here, no table service the QR code didn't work.This meant going inside where not one person was wearing a mask even though people were crowding around the bar. I understand this doesn't have to happen in pubs but when you have no social distancing then I feel its essential, especially for the staff who are serving across open bars. Sure they had screens up at the tills but to what point if they are not being used. The food was mediocre and was served with no mask, gloves or distancing in mind. Track and trace not mentioned once. It's a shame because they have the space to have this secure but unfortunately they fell well short on this occasion. That was once to often for me and I won't be back.

Wasn’t very happy at all, food came out wrong after an hour plus of waiting. Carvery was hard, no windows open or ac on and there were flies everywhere. Stuffing was rock hard, was banged against the table and didn’t brake, i did take a video but it won’t let me upload it. Quite disappointed, expected more!

often visit this carvery with family when in Derby. its really good, very clean, the food is excellent, tasty & reasonably priced (2 carvery's £12), & the staff are friendly and welcoming! nice Yorkshire pudding, very tasty gravy : - )looking forward to going back again soon...

Visited here on many occasions and ordered the carvery each time. Every visit, same high level of service. Friendly staff. Nice carvery. Gluten free gravy. Recommend.

After a few good visits this Sunday was bad tough beef, coliflower u could not cut with a knife, as for Yorkshire pud so heavy don't no why not eating again their truly bad

Have been going here most saturday evenings, unfortunately the last two saturday nights have been a complete disaster, the first time we were told there was no food available, last saturday thought we would give them another try only to be told that they were only serving the carvery which by 7.30pm looked a bit dire. The staff are lovely and I felt very sorry for them they are obviously suffering from bad management. Who has ever heard of a food pub not serving food on a saturday night, not good enough Marstons need to get your act together.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We booked a table here for the Friday before Christmas. We expected it to be really busy, but i couldn't believe how quiet it was. It was 12 o clock and the place was almost empty. Maybe the traffic chaos from the retail park around Christmas put people off. No queuing at the carvery deck for us on this occasion! There is a separate main menu, which offers a good variety and caters well for vegetarians, vegans or those following a gluten-free diet. Everything is fairly priced too. They also have daily deals and a two main meals for £12 option from a selection of meals, including a carvery. As on my previous visit, i can't fault the food and the gravy was still one of the best bits of the meal. My friend was disappointed that apple sauce wasn't available, though.There isn't as much choice of potatoes and veg as there is at other carvery pubs, but it's nothing to make us stay away. My Dad doesn't like the fact that stuffing isn't one of the things you can help yourself to, so you only get one little piece. However, he did tell me that on his last visit he managed to pinch another 3 pieces when the chef's back was turned. He was pretty pleased with himself there! My Mum also enjoyed a carvery here recently and, although she enjoyed the food, she wasn't impressed with the state of the toilets. The dessert menu has a good range of choices, including takeaway options. I enjoyed the banoffee pie. This is one pub i will definitely keep coming back to. And with two carveries for £12 Mon-Fri it is excellent value.

Moved to Derby recently this pub fed us and it is very good food and very popular would recommend not bad for a drink as well and not bad prices

A completely lovely experience with waiting staff, chefs and bar staff. Husband in hospital after heart attack but they catered for take away for him. All courses very good value for money and carvery excellent. Would have paid more for such exceptional service and quality. Thank you all. We'll be back for New Year! Thank you for a amazing Christmas meal me and the family was very impressed how we didn’t want for anything , the drinks kept on coming from the amazing staff especially Andrea that was dedicated to ours and every ones needs , the food was delicious and plenty of it , merry Christmas to you all and thank you for all your hard work .

The Calvert was awful. The meat was full of fat and I nearly choked on a piece of string from the meat. The veg was overcooked and mushy and as much as I like thick gravy you had to flick it on your plate from the ladle. It was all lukewarm and tasteless

I normally like coming here but i came for a meal with my family .But today the carvery wasnt up to scratch there was potatoes other than dried roasts.when asked the server for some mash or new pots all she said there isnt any .we felt that the server didnt want to serve us .the portion size of the meat wasnt the same as other visits

My favourite chain for a carvery could have competition after this visit to Kings Highway. I hadn't been for a couple of years but i can't wait to go back.

My wife and I have stayed here several times over the last few years. The walk into the city centre is about 20 minutes, so very convenient. The rooms are spacious, clean, with tea and coffee (and biscuits} provided. The restaurant serves good, wholesome food from a comprehensive menu very reasonably priced. Some reviews have been highly critical of the quality of the food served which we feel to be very unjustified (some people are just plain "picky.") If you prefer 5* food at 6* prices with just enough to feed a budgie then don't come here otherwise give it a go. Having said all that every establishment needs good staff--- step forward Andrea, Debbie, Liz and Rob a sincere thank you and to all the others of "the pit orchestra"

If you have no taste buds the place is right up your street. Bland and tasteless food of very poor quality. Not sure why I came. Definitely not giving the place a second chance. Gregg's is down the road.

2nd time we have been the 1st time wasn't the best but choose to give benefit of the doubt. Veg selection is poor and very limited choice and all food was luke warm we did mention to a staff member. Just got a smile

Always a pleasure coming here, with friends or family we always get a warm welcome , the staff are knowledgeable and friendly .The food especially the carvery is lovely . The gin bar is amazing , and the monthly entertainment is always good .

Booked this place as colleagues use it when in the area, it gets busy early doors, but quietens down around 8.30. A large and diverse menu to choose from, food in general was ok. Will stay and eat here again.

Honestly this was the worst meal I've had for ages .carvery asked for beef just got a plate of fatty inedible beef so instantly took that off and put it in a napkin .stuffing square dry and hard even the veg was undercooked especially the cauliflower cheese.pointless moaning as couldn't have eaten anything any good

I visited for a friends birthday. We had a whole area reserved for us. The place was clean and well kept.

Have to say this was my third visit here I think and I enjoyed it. Service good, prices good. Now the bad. I was treated to a large carvery and the meat perfect. Veg could of done with re filling. The extra pigs in blankets we’re burnt and no gravy.

What a great Marston's inn this one is. The whole place was clean, staff friendly, the small plate carvery for me was lovely and my husband really liked his curry. Our local Marston's isn't very good which has slightly put me off them but this has changed my mind. We stayed over in 'the lodge' which was excellent - lovely room & facilities and the breakfast the next morning was fabulous - all fresh & tasty and the staff again very welcoming. Would like to come back (just a shame there's not much to see in Derby) but think it's worth it.

good lasagna albeit for almost nine pound a little on the small side , nice curry ,well served, had a BOWL ( laugh again ) of , if you ever call them chips you want your temples feeling , chip bits , served in a SMALL cereal bowl , the remnants of a frozen bag ,still costing £1.99 , probably three times the cost of the whole bag ,when the CHEF gets to the bottom of the bag it would be a good idea to throw the remnants away and not try to increase his G P by serving these and charging the afore said price , on balance ,good meal ,well served and presented , totally spoiled by paying at least 18 / 20 pence each for the only few REAL looking chips ,dont let the reputation you have earned with quality be thrown away on an issue like this ,throw the chip BITS away instead, and then you wouldnt mind paying the over inflated price

We go here for a treat. Only ever oder scampi, no matter where we go. Food is alway great. Staff and awesome. Very surprised at negative reviews as we have found it to be the best out of all the places we have visited.

It is a bit of a soap box review but please don’t switch off, its all good!!!!

My Wife and I foolishly went back after not visiting for three years or more to find the terrible food had got worse and the staff on the carvery had become even ruder. Never again!!!!

My sports team stay here regularly when we have training camp, and we love this place. The pub staff are so friendly and helpful, and are genuinely lovely. The food is great, amazing value- and it’s worth coming just for the puddings! Definitely our preferred place to eat and stay when I’m the area.

The atmosphere is fantastic, especially with the new re-furb. Staff are always friendly and willing to got that extra mile for their customers. Fantastic service xxx 5 stars

The carvery was lovely , the gin is amazing and the Lemon drizzle Sundae REALLY hits the spot ! And it has to be said the staff are simply the best , thank you for always making us feel so welcome .

We came here for a colleagues farewell, it was on a Friday night the 26th April 2019. We started to meet up at around 7pm and people were still arriving at 9.30pm as some staff had just finished their shift.We had ordered food and drinks and all left at around 11pm. The food and service was great but they decided it was a good time to do a quiz...we were kept being told by the manager to keep quiet on several occasions which did upset some of us, we felt that they should have divided the room for quiz playing and for drink8ng patrons. We felt we had spent a lot of monies between us and that it was not what we were expecting to be told to quite down...the noise was only jovious after all nothing else...so if you want to party on a Friday....this is NOT the place

Usually we go and me and my partner have no complaints, however this time we found ourselves dissapointed, the carvery vegetables and potatoes were not topped up and what was there was very dry and clearly old. We were dissapointed because usually we have a fantastic time. Hoping it's a one off.

Visited following refurb, but quite disappointed. My husband enjoyed his carvery which is good value for money, however I ordered a sandwich off the lunch menu which took half an hour to arrive, despite the pub being relatively quiet. It only arrived after we questioned where it was, without any apology or explanation as to why it had taken so long, and when it did arrive it was quite pathetic- 90% wilted lettuce, 10% plasticky grated cheese. Didn't have high expectations as I know its only pub food, however the other pubs nearby serve much better food and service at the same price. For a carvery, I'd recommend, but I wouldn't bother with the rest of the menu

Went for lunch today with my family to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Was looking forward to it as it was my first visit since they refurbished, and it’s a very nice improvement. Appears cleaner, tidier and more inviting. New carvery deck looked great. Staff were very friendly and seemed very pleased to hear my positive feedback on the refurb. Our server, Deb, was very helpful, cheerfully took us to our table which we reserved. The quality of the carvery was good. Deb quickly topped up the mint sauce for me when I pointed out it needed filling up. She gave lots of apologies which was appreciated but not needed as it happens. Deb also excelled herself when I pointed out a minor problem with my meal. She informed the manager straight away and I was given a free ice cream as a goodwill gesture. This went down a treat and more than made up for the problem which means I shall be returning again. Deb also kindly gave my sister a free ice cream for her birthday. We all felt as if our custom was valued on leaving.

The food was adequate, service was quick. Not very keen on the new menu, the old one was much better.

Excellent meal, excellent service, excellent value for money. The decor is bright and feels spacious. staff were very attentive. Have had carvery lunches elsewhere and only realised a few weeks ago that Kings Highway did carvery. will be returning very soon. best carvery I have had

the first visit was on a tues evening with friends and we all enjoyed the carvery,very very good,the second visit was at lunch time and again very impressed,my husband again had the carvery,my dad had ham egg and chips and i had a toastie, all very nice. The decor is lovely and i loved looking at all the old Derby photos all over the place and the staff were all very nice.

Today was my 1st visit to the King's Highway after it's revamp. The interior is fresh and modern. Happily I can say this as far as any change is concerned. The food is still excellent, well cooked and plentiful by a great team in the kitchens. Bar and waiting staff especially Debbie who always make us feel welcome and at home. Congratulations to all of you in the new look with the best service and food in Derby!!!

my wife and I + 3 friends were invited to a preopening night following an extensive renovation last night ,The renovation is superb and the food was (as always) top class ,the well trained ,friendly ,do anything for you staff were spot on and as it has been closed for two weeks my wife and I really missed it.We tried another pub while it was closed but it came nowhere near the K.H.for all the aforementioned reasons.Add to last night the very generous token given to us all to purchase food we all had a suprb evening.Welcome back and my wife and I are booked for sunday lunch.

Nice atmosphere,usually very quick to get a table,food acceptable but not outstanding, can vary from week to week.Have had good meals and average ones but it doesnt put me off.

My partner has been here before and has always had good food so this may have just been a blip. Our carvery on Sunday was mediocre - hard sprouts, stuffing, undercooked veg....we also ordered the veggie option which never turned up (despite a member of staff coming to our table to check we still wanted it.) They were closing yesterday for a refurb so perhaps their minds were on sorting everything ready for that. Will still go again and try something else on the menu.

Ate here as a couple and both our meals were great. Service is always quick and polite without being intrusive and our server checked up on us to see how our food was. My partner asked for rare steak and it was cooked perfectly, and my yee-ha burger was delicious. Good options for non-meat eaters too. Drinks were not overpriced either.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit each time, the carvery is second to none!

Visited after hospital appointment and was very happy with the meal and service. I would highly recommend

my wife and i have been for many a meal at the kings highway for carvery and food of the normal menu so seeing some of the comments i don,t understand,we went to a different carvery the other day in Chadd as we was that side of town and it was brought as a treat and well lets put is this way it was not a patch on the kings highway food.The manager and staff at the king highway work hard to provide a great service and quality food to there customers,a few months back we took our friend to the kings highway for a carvery meal and they said it was the best one they had tasted so we have re booked a table to go back this week. Please keep up the hard work providing a great 1st class service to your customers

I was rather delayed leaving my days admission at the derby Hospital just around the corner. It was 5pm, the roads were very busy so we decided to eat out and delay the journey home and called here today Weds 19th Dec 2018. Plenty of car parking, the place wasnt too busy and we got a table easily. The menu is varied and well priced. We opted for 2 for £10 and was pleased we did as we had 2 10ozs gammons with chips etc. It was hot and cooked to our satisfaction. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was getting busy when we left. Will call here again in the future

21/11/18 12 noon. Its been some time since we last came here so decided on carvery. Not the best meal we've had. We joined the que . In front of me was a large joint of beef which i thought would be ok for a change. The person in front of me asked for beef and i was amazed to see the carver cutting from a small piece behind the big joint. This was overcooked and looked dry. He gave that the the customer.I said to him "thats yesterdays meat" to which he agreed , so i had turkey !!!!. Its not the largest selection of veg I've seen on a carvary and looking at it some also did not look freshly cooked , especially the roast potatoes . To sum up , if you want a good carvery this is not the place for you !!!

We regularly go to the Kings Highway for the carvery on a Sunday and it rarely disappoints. The staff behind the bar are polite and always greet you with a smile. The carvery is well priced and we’ve always been impressed with the quality of the produce, particularly the meat. The waiting staff are friendly and always stop by to see if everything is okay, which it usually is given the nearly empty plates! All in all, great food and great service. Thumbs up from us!

We ordered our meals and desserts at 5.31pm and didn’t receive our main meals until 5.55pm even though it was quiet. The waitress came over with the meals but never asked if we needed any sauces which I thought was one question you should always ask the customer. After finishing our meals at 6.15pm we eagerly awaited for our desserts but they never arrived. My husband asked the waitress what had happened to them at 6.35pm and was told they were just being made after she returned from the kitchen. If my husband hadn’t have ask we would probably still be waiting for them. Didn’t get the waitresses name as she didn’t even have a name badge on. The bar staff weren’t any better either by not even asking if we wanted any ice in our drinks. You can’t fault the food but definitely need more staff training. The little things make all the difference.

I visit the kingshighway regularly for afternoons and evenings. The staff are always happy and willing to go that extra mile. The food is wonderful and reasonably priced well recommend this for anybody.

I have been to the Kings Highway many times with my family, it has to be said, it’s one of my favourite, homely places to eat. This is because the staff are friendly and helpful. I would certainly recommend it.

We had the most tasty carvery today , the meats were lean and cooked beautifully,the veg was also first class ! Served with a smile , great staff , great food !

We have been in here tonight after driving past. The kids wanted the chicken deal, well what can I say get meal for the family. You may need to add something else to it for a big family but we enjoyed it. Staff friendly and the pub was warm. See you again.

We were a party of four and had four different meals. One of our party had the carvery option and it was very bland, not that hot, over cooked veg and small portions. The meat was quite tender and edible though. Out of four meals, we were not impressed with the over priced offerings. Staff were very helpful and friendly though.

Just moved to Derby. Came across the Kings Highway and what can we say. The pub is a little old looking but the staff and food are amazing. The four of us had a carvery and the chef on serving was friendly. The food looked fresh and was hot. I really enjoy food when it’s hot. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. My wife bless her isn’t great on her legs so Debbie helped her fetch another drink from the bar. All in all I couldn’t fault the pub. Look forward to coming again.

Wanted somewhere to go for a wide variety of choice for the family, the carvery looked excellent and tasted great the beef just melted in your mouth.

Came here for some food prior to setting off home after a long weekend at a training camp. We all had carvery’s for £12.00 each with a massive selection of meats and Sunday dinner items it was fab for the money!!! Staff are really friendly, the service is quick and the food was lovely! Would definitely recommend and return next time I’m over!!

We've been a few times over the past couple of years, but shan't be going again. The meats have always been nice, with a decent portion but the vegetable selection has always been limited. On this visit there were peas, carrots, green beans, cauliflower (supposed to be in cheese sauce but dried up and not much left in the pot) red cabbage, roast potatoes and boiled in skins potatoes. Good points - the roast potatoes were nice and meat was succulent and tasty. Bad points - green beans were tasteless, carrots were under cooked with a very odd flavour which none of us had ever encountered before and although we all like carrots the taste was so off putting that we all left them, boiled potatoes were very under cooked, cauliflower was OK but dried up and very little left in the pot. It's a pity, it's local and reasonably priced but based on today's experience we wouldn't go again as it was a massive disappointment.

Waited far too long for a child's simple meal of fish fingers chips and beans to arrive, had to ask very nice staff when the meal would arrive..(wasn't hot)!

What a lovely way to spend a poor weather bank holiday. We live local and decided on account of the weather to stay local. The 'Highway ' were holding a family fun day so we called in. An excellent afternoon. Kids (not ours) were obviously enjoying themselves. We managed a win on the bottle stall. After the fun of the stalls we retreated inside and had a lovely afternoon. Thanks. We'll be back. Again.

Food was awful the veg on the carvery was limited and what they did have was all dry and overcooked I did complain but don't think the manager was overly bothered

There were not enough staff on so spent ages waiting at the bar. Tensions rose as bar staff unsure who to serve next. Food orders incorrect and noticed she people waiting for food whilst others on the table have received theres. Prices not cheap but cheap quality. Drinks very expensive

Had to find an alternative place to stay other than a Premier Inn which was severely overpriced!!! This was a random pick, but personally I struck gold! Great value for money.

Nice restaurant in a handy position on Derby ring outer road.The pub gets very busy at peak times.Never had a bad meal but never really enjoyed it. The food just lacks flavour!
