An interesting pub that is set high up due the tide coming in along the River Thames. Quite small inside although there is a beer garden which is in use when the tide is out! Staff were great and had time to explain the tidal location even though I'm sure they are repeating themselves frequently! Drinks were great. The toilets are on ground level and will likely flood at very high tides. We had to go back later in the day to see the tide come in. Great excuse for being stuck in the pub!

Wow, what can I say. It was a sunny hot day so where better to head than the White Swan. The outdoor seating area is just lovely - right on/in the river. We had lunch and the food was really very good. We were slightly disappointed that there was really only one vegan option (apart from salad) but what we ate was very good. Service was very quick and all staff were really polite and helpful.

Excellent choice of menu and good selection of wine and Beers. Absolutely brilliant couldn't wish for more. It made a really relaxed and enjoyable celebration with a "Magical" setting beside the River Thames. Big Thank you to all the Team x

Lets start with the pub itself. It's very atmospheric, traditional, in a great location and has a lot of character. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They knew all the drinks and food and were able to answer any questions with enthusiasm. The drink I opted for was a Hazy Hog Cider. I have to say it was fantastic and had a head and Belgian lace similar to a really good pint of beer, so I stuck with it and had 3. I was with my wife, son and his girlfriend. They were all very impressed with the window seat as we watched the Thames flood before our eyes and lapped away at the front door below. The food was great, not a bad bite from any dish. I opted for the fish (haddock) and chips, others had the sausage and mash and two beefburgers. To start we had the whitebait which was the best I'd ever had, really good: Pork burnt ends and venison croquette. Nothing was a disappointment. My only tiny issue was that the chips had the skin on but they were real potatoes cooked fresh, so not much of a grumble. with drinks we came to about £180.00 for 4 people, which may sound a lot but I wouldn't consider it too much. The pub is dog and child friendly. The trip downstairs to the toilet is an experience if you don't get lost and they also have a very nice outdoor area right by the Thames which floods very quickly at high tide. All in all, I think this place will become a regular haunt for me and her indoors.

Lovely setting by the river, we sat outside to enjoy the good weather and pleasant view. Service was good in that the food came quickly and the waitress was friendly. We ordered Scampi and Chips, this was disappointing in more ways than one. It didn’t look that great and unfortunately the Scampi wasn’t cooked through properly. Following discussion with the Waitress we were offered another bowl of Scampi, which was an improvement. On this occasion The White Swan was let down by the food, which I didn’t enjoy. However I did enjoy a glass or two of wine and was able to chink glasses in honour of my Birthday. 😊

We were looking for a pub by the river between Staines and Richmond to meet up with some old friends and were doing a recce to decide which was the best hostelry. This was the first one on our list and has ended up being the favourite. The pub itself is very well presented with flower baskets everywhere, the staff were delightful - friendly & courteous, the drinks reasonably priced for a Twickenham pub in a prime location and the food both excellent quality and, again, very reasonably priced - and the service exemplary. In addition the beers were well kept with the server knowing his stuff about real ales. A real winner all round.

This is a pub not a restaurant and should be judged as such. What must be one of the finest, unspoiled locations in Greater London, a relatively unspoiled interior, good beer, good staff, good atmosphere. I hear that the food can be hit and miss but who cares? Only complaint from me is as always the music: no one's listening, no one wants it, so why?

I’ve been coming here for twenty six years. There used to be a great bunch of characters from Eel Pie island ,artists and old hippy types at the bar back then .Even Ronnie Wood used to pop in when he lived on Richmond Green . In the last five years I’ve had racial abuse from the oddball who comes in with the chess set “ newish to the area” been made to feel very unwelcome by the two old guys who are welded to the bar “ every night “.The young people behind the bar serving must be sick of them . I second Mr Pie,s view of the Scottish lady .First she was a “ professional local “ parachuted into the area about seven or eight years ago then soon enough she was pulling pints and giving customers looks that would crack mirrors ,me included. She basically hunts you out if you don’t have a table . One thing about The Swan they have always had lovely staff .I miss Steve’s management style and of course sound Rebecca. All in all my twenty six year “ career “ drinking in The Swan has mostly been great .This pub is a gift and a haven don’t let anyone ruin it for you .If you have a disappointing evening once in a while rest assured you are bound to have many more good experiences in this landmark.

This is a regular pub of mine, a lovely river location and in the winter with a roaring fire. Sunday before last afternoon however, I went in for a drink and a read on my way home after a long walk, and the Scottish woman serving behind the bar, who I assume was the landlord, since a member of staff would surely have been sacked by now for her attitude, when I asked for a glass of wine, asked me whether I had a table, and when I said I didn’t, and that I wasn’t eating but just having a drink, snapped that I would be given a plastic glass as “we assume if you haven’t got a table you’re going outside.” I pointed to a free table, but she continued to be rude and aggressive to me. Finally I was asked what wine I wanted. Rather than show me a list or tell me what she had she just walked off until I’d decided. Absolutely awful attitude, rude and surly at every opportunity. Another customer exchanged glances with me of disbelief. I wish I’d just turned and walked out but I was simply stunned.

What more can be added to what has already been said? The White Swan is simply the best pub in London. It's friendly, the selection of beers & wines are exceptional and the staff polite. The food is fantastic as well! And to top it off, you have the views over the river and the (sometimes flooded) garden terrace. Forget the big sheds that treat you like a walking wallet, or serve sub-standard food at above standard costs, get yourself to the Swan. It's like the local pub you never thought existed.

Such a lovely place, we go there often. Short queue for a table outside but worth the wait . The food is always excellent and today no exception. We were asked to sanitise our hands on the way in and I noticed all tables were sprayed with some kind of cleanser before we were seated. All very commendable. Why then was a dog allowed to sleep on one of the tables ? When asked the usual 'is everything ok' by one of the staff I said I was quite appalled to see this happening - does it mean everyone can put their canine friend next to their lunch? She was clearly embarrassed and very apologetic and said she would mention it to her manager.Shortly afterwards we saw the manager greet the dog and it's owners as great friends. Needless to say it remained on the table. It is a disgraceful lack of respect for other diners at any time but given the present crisis it is at best negligent and at worst bordering on criminal.Quite disgraceful.

We had a birthday lunch today at the White Swan. We were really looking forward to it- the pub is in a charming and unmatched situation, right on the Thames near Eel Pie Island. We were offered a very good choice of tables and the staff were helpful and pleasant. It is a shame that the food was so very disappointing. The menu did not seem to have much simple summer fare on it- there was rather a lot of food in buns, and batter. Three of us opted for the goat's cheese beetroot and asparagus salad, which turned out to be a messy plate of crumbled goats cheese, some salad leaves and grated beetroot, flavoured with some sort of unidentified brown gloopy dressing and nut free pesto. The asparagus element consisted of one spear. As well as unappetising, this, at £12, was seriously overpriced, as was the dry grilled halloumi and guacamole in a bun (with tired chips). I asked for bread, which seemed to floor the staff, who brought some triangles of sliced brown toast.

This is without doubt the best place to drink pre match in Twickenham. It’s a beautiful setting with its own little beach by the river. They have a bbq which serves good quality burgers (not your typical match burger). I either drink here or the Barmy Arms just further along the river. The swan is a bit more sophisticated and just beautiful when the sun is out. Good beer and good times all round. I’ve never understood why people choose to drink in the typical “chain” pubs in the town. This place is a local pub in an idyllic setting down the beautiful streets along the river. I’ve been going here pre match for many years and doubt I will ever go anywhere else!

After 1 drink decided that we would eat here especially as we had such a great view. For something different we ordered all 5 starters and a portion of fries. Whitebait, Mac n cheese bites, salmon terrine, beetroot houmous and chipolates in a sticky sauce. No need for main course or dessert. My only negative comment is that there was a strange toilet like smell that kept wafting up to us. Great food, great staff and I imagine in the summer absolutely heaving.

Popped in for a pint and was going to have something to eat but the stench of the place was to much.i don’t know if it was the toilets or the river.

Brilliant situation with lovely views. Real characterful old pub. Great staff, very tasty and well presented food and good choice of drinks. Particularly love the fish and chips and the Houloumi burger. Very happy it's near where we live.

I visited this pub to discuss a forthcoming family event. We bought a drink towards the end of the evening and went to sit in the outside garden. Five minutes afterwards after we had sat down one of the workers from the bar came and told us we had to leave because the garden was now closed. We asked why we couldn't finish our pints and we were told that if we stayed we would be breaking the law. This seemed strange because patrons were sitting on the terrace of the pub and inside. When I arrived home I checked the pubs License and found that we had been lied to, the garden has to formally close at 11pm with 30 mins drinking up time. I feel offended because the staff at this establishment treated me and my family like fools by lying to us, they expected us to swallow their lie about the license and not check the truth.

I feel I ought not to be writing this review as the White Swan Twickenham is busy enough on a Twickenham Stadium event day without me risking bigger crowds! However the staff were so good I felt compelled to write the review.

Is there anywhere else in London where you can get cut off in a pub garden by the rising tide? It's quite something to sit out under the moon and next to the river, listening to owls and other wildlife at night. And service is great.

Having walked across Richmond park then across on the ferry. This was the first place we came across. We were lucky enough to get seats outside. Although extremely busy the tables were cleared and it was lovely and clean. We only stopped for drinks but the food coming out looked a smelled lovely. Our glasses were cleared as soon as finished. Service at the bar had been quick despite being busy. Looked a nice location if stopping for s meal on a sunny day.

Discovered during a walk along the river I'm glad we found it. The pub is wonderfully situated on the river with an outside seating area. Access to the pub is unsuitable for wheelchairs. We didn't eat but the food we saw coming out was excellent, the fish and chips was huge with the fish overhanging both sides of the plate, the burgers looked just like juicy.

Lovely location by the river, nice atmosphere and excellent service. Good selection of foods including vegan options. Not typical pub food. Always very busy and it is important to book well ahead. Staff is very friendly and the service is excellent. The restaurant is animal friendly.

The pub is very pretty, lovely location and you can see it’s got lot’s of history. We went for Sunday Roast, it was super crowded and the service was very confusing. We paid for two Beef Roasts, as they run out of Pork Belly and when it arrived it had no Yorkshire Pudding, as they run out but didn’t tell us when we paid (I would have chosen something else as this was not my first choice anyway) and the meat was pretty hard and not very good at all. I asked if we could have something else instead of the Yorkshire pudding that we paid for but they said no. So lovely view, the bad service and food might have been because of the lovely weather and loads of people but still we felt as if we paid a lot for what we got.

We live very close and had wandered past a few times, the pub itself is in a wonderful location with a beer garden located literally on the river. We decided to book a table for Sunday lunch when my parents were visiting.

The best food on the riverside in Twickenham. Their fish and chips are outstanding but I went rogue and had the Halloumi burger with avocado, I’m a convert. The food really is fantastic and a good wine list. Love the setting and atmosphere

Have been a few times now and the food is amazing, I have never had anything bad yet. All staff are very friendly and welcoming. They have loads of space to sit and enjoy you food. The little shop they have has a lot of lovely stuff for sale. Will Defo be back and Defo recommend.

A name that is a tongue-in-cheek reference to an outstanding restaurant could suggest irony. However, the food here is really good! Speak to the chef, go with his recommendations and the love your meal is prepared with will ensure your delight.

Visited today after trip to Kew Gardens excellent food at a very reasonable price. Ploughman's Lunch for me really superb best Ginger Beer I've tasted in a long time. Very busy but service quick and friendly. My apologies to the staff I only had card so could not pay cash. Thank you
