The White Post in South Somerset

Food was great, all very very nice. I had the seafood platter as did my husband and everything from the starter to the cheeseboard was great. Fantastic view out the back of the fields, wonderful on a warm summer evening.

We have been to the White Post a number of times, including for our wedding reception earlier in the year. Brett and Carly (and the rest of the team) are fantastic and always go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Anyone looking for lush food with a brilliant view, friendly service and a warm atmosphere needs to give the White Post a visit!

Fantastic food! Came for a friend's birthday meal, and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Lots of choice on both normal menu and set menu. Cinnamon creme brulee was to die for! Dog friendly. I will be back without a doubt. Extremely reasonably priced too, especially considering the quality of food.

Mediocre service with uninspiring menu. But this is a “gastropub”, it’s certainly not a restaurant. Staff are perfectly pleasant though many appeared inexperienced. Expensive when adding drinks, making it not great value. Wouldn’t bother going back.

It was ok. Wasn't to the standard I expected from both the recommendations of others thst have been before and the price. Will give it another with something more classic so maybe more in their wheelhouse.

Excellent food, and great service

TWP is set atop a hill with wonderful 360 degree views but not sure why Venetian blinds were pulled p. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Nicely decorated but lacking in atmosphere. Food was a mixed bag with some very small portions ( smoked duck and pork belly). Cabbage (tiny portion) with pork was delicious, accompanied by bland mash. Fish platter was ok, nothing special. Tiny portion of unpleasant cheesecake came with tasty rhubarb and lovely vanilla ice cream. Prosecco was fine and pleasant Picpoul. £200 ( including tip) seemed hefty for a fairly indifferent meal. Not awful by any means but unlikely to return.

We had lunch on our way from Portsmouth to Yeovil. Very clean, well decorated and very pleasant staff.

Great food every time I have been! Don't listen to the other one/two star reviews, they obviously know nothing about fine dining! Staff are always friendly and the owner is super nice

A little gem of a place. We don’t frequent that often, but when we do, it never disappoints. A fantastic family-run restaurant, food is outstanding and service is amazing. If you want to treat yourself, this is the place. 🥂🍻🍷

OMG the Roast @ The Post was magnificent. My husband and our friend said that it was the best Roast they had eaten out ever. My Seabass, mussels and samphire was gorge! And the seafood platter was also incredible. The girl server's were delightful and the owner terrific. We drove out from Surrey for our 2nd visit as it is just so good. Set up on a hill with panoramic views across Glastonbury. 12 out of 10 ⭐️'s

Trying to be something more than it is… Cocktail and cider excellent Pork main small and relatively tasteless and poor presentation (if that is a selling point the restaurant is trying to make) Fish small but good Dessert - tiny, not a brownie more crumbs of a brownie with a tiny bit of moose and tiny teaspoon of a lovely tasting orange sorbet Lovely serving staff Sadly I won’t be rushing back

Excellent Sunday roast, selection of 3 meats for the table to share with all the expected trimmings in generous portions. Great puddings as well. Staff very friendly and attentive too. Cracking place.

Went for Sunday lunch with a party of 5. The food was average and significantly overpriced. Yorkshire puddings we’re rubbery and cold and the potatoes weren’t crispy and had that re heated taste, hence not freshly cooked. No green veg served just roast carrots and parsnips which were soggy. The lovely view from the restaurant and pleasant staff were its saving grace. I would recommend the Half Moon at Mudford or the Virginia Ash at Henstridge instead if this place,

Had a great family meal at the White Post. Best meal of a weeks holiday. Food was excellent. Kids menu spot on - both loved their fish fingers / pasta. For the adults was the Scotch egg and arancini starters. Both great. For mains the Moules and the burger were perfect. Also loved the picpoul white wine. Came here a few years ago, and then, sadly couln't find it again, until now, and it's had a full refurb since. The food is very good, the produce is fresh and matched with the stunning scenery, you can see why this is a Michelin-starred gastropub.

We wanted to rate this as good, rather than average or very good. Definitely not a pub, but not quite a restaurant. Starters were good! Small scallops and dry arancini. Mains…. Steak was good, small and served only with chips. Sauce extra. Fish platter was overpriced and small portions. Service was very good. Amuse bouche a nice touch. No alcohol and our bill came to £100. Very overpriced for what we had. Serving boards are not suitable for main courses. Wouldn’t return 🤷‍♀️

As usual a wonderful meal cooked to perfection. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Finished with drinks on the terrace.

Fabulous Restaurant and Amazing Service took my Daughter and Son in Law to celebrate his birthday last night. This wasnt our 1st time as we love everything about it. Food was truly Michelin Star but not Michelin price really reasonable. This is now our go to Restaurant for every celebration.

Perfect location for a couple of sundowners before dinner. Great food and pretty reasonable prices for the quality of the dishes served.

Don’t usually review things, but this experience was so different to expectations… We chose this restaurant to celebrate an anniversary lunch based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews but it was a slow burn disappointment. Initial impressions were good and the staff seemed friendly and there were plenty of them, but they were all very inexperienced and food and drink was never served, but plonked on the table. Somehow fine, as they were all very smiley, but slightly unnerving if you came with high expectations of a special meal. It was all funkily served on boards etc, but the quantities of meat were tiny, the key items were just not quite right, Yorkshire puddings you could frisbee, hollow shells of potatoes. However, the key failing was with the gluten free rigour. The celiac status was shared before the meal, and again during seating but the answer to all questions from the inexperienced staff was always a half hearted ok, gravy ok, cauliflower cheese ok. Unfortunately something wasn’t ok and the consequences are quite unpleasant for a day or two. Final thing, the double lunch seating means that when your time is up you’ll be clearly given the elbow. There is something nice here, but never again!

This was my first visit here for a friend's birthday. The roast was absolutely amazing with plenty to go round. The staff were all friendly and very attentive. This will definitely not be my last visit.

Amazing lunch. The staff were really friendly, lovely surroundings but most of all the food was so yummy! Couldn’t help but to have all three courses. Great kids menu to cover all the fussy eaters, my 11 year old ate off the main menu and had the best chicken he’s ever tasted.

First of all, service was outstanding, I often feel nervous when going to new places but walking in they felt like old friends. The food is to die for and the drinks are so well made. The location is beautiful and you can see across the countryside from your seat, highly recommended

To be fair it was father's day, so they were a bit rushed off their feet, but that doesn't mean that it take 45 min to get your drinks ordered then another 20 mins to take your food order. When the food did come the meats were very good, but the vegetables were reheated, the colliflower cheese was a lump of stodge and the Yorkshire pudding was like a piece of cardboard. Needless to say that we won't be rushing back to TWP. 😔😔😔

I had stopped going here but after a recent visit I would recommend it. It is up for sale and I hope it is bought by people with as much passion as the cuŕent owners

We visited for my husband's birthday and travelled a couple of hours to get here, it was sooooo worth it! The setting is absolutely gorgeous. The welcome was warm and very friendly. The food was really good, we loved the piggy platter. Hubby had the faggots, his favourite, and deemed them "best I've ever had"! The puddings were delicious. Everything is presented beautifully and with care. Emails were responded to very quickly. And to top it off hubby was presented with a marzipan birthday scroll and candle, which was a total and lovely surprise! Thank you so much for making his day so very special.

A slice of heaven. Superb location with wonderful views of the Somerset levels including Glastonbury tor. Food is fantastic, you won't be disappointed. Not sure if the rooms are still available but they are very comfortable with everything you would expect from a top hotel. Highly recommended

Lovely afternoon tea with wife and mother in law food was great interesting mix of traditional cream tea with a twist. Service was excellent. Fantastic views over Somerset. Interestingly, the pub resides half in Somerset and half in Dorset. Good access for my wheelchair.

Went here for Sunday lunch as a group of 10. Had to book in advance as pay a deposit of £10 per head but this was offset against the bill. Sunday lunch (3 meats plus all the trimmings) came in at £22 per head and tasted exceptional across all the meats and veg. Puddings also tasted excellent and service was the right level of checking we were OK and leaving us to eat. Parking is limited but the views across out towards Glastonbury are spectacular.

Today was the second visit in the week. Sunday lunch today, which was epic. Best Sunday lunch I ever had. Legends for staff. Photos of the visit attached. Only one thing, the table was booked for noon, but the young lady came to our table at 1.25 and asked us to leave, as the table was booked for someone else. I hadn't even finished the coffee. I had to race the coffee and leave, having paid for the best meal. I did ask if there was somewhere else we could sit, to finish the coffee and perhaps consider pudding, but she never came back to say. Otherwise, awesome 😀☘️

When I arrive, the first thing you see is a beautiful view, then when you enter the place you feel a comfortable and beautiful place, as if it were a house. then I loved the deal!! It is as if they know you and treat you with great humor and attention, for them my first 5 stars!! Then we ordered some scallops, and fish and meat, the food was very delicious and well presented, we loved everything!! I would repeat without a doubt. I recommend 100%

Had a roast here years ago and decided to go back this weekend to see if it was as good as we remembered - it was better. Incredible Sunday lunch in a really cosy environment. The team were lovely, couldn't do enough for us. Had a lovely glass of wine with lunch and it was worth every single penny. Can't fault it and can't wait to go back!

We were placed on a table at the back, but the wedding party was getting louder and louder. It would have been appropriate for the restaurant to call us when they new the party was being booked to allow a change of date, they didn’t. I used to recommend this restaurant to all who asked for a special place to go to eat, not any more. I personally will never return. The only reason I have given two stars over one, is that I did not have to pay for the appetiser drink. Very badly disappointed.

Sunday lunch was amazing well presented, and plenty of, service was first class

The White Post often do "theme" nights and we went to the American evening which consisted of four separate courses. Even something simple like pulled pork Mac & Cheese was completely home made with the pork cooked for 24 hours! It's a cliche to say that you can taste the difference, but you could, with every single bite. Great food, great service and amazing views. Recommended!

I would have given a 3.5 as I think a 4 is a bit high. We got there just after opening and we asked if we could wait a little bit to order food as the place was quite empty but were told we needed to order immediately. We were planning on spending a couple hours as with any Sunday roast but tables were cleared and bill settled within 40 minutes - all felt really really rushed and not the relaxing country side pub atmosphere we were hoping for. Still great view and roast was good!

Friendly environment, excellent food choices, very considerate service with no fuss but good levels of attention. The food is really good and reasonably priced. Very well deserved accolades adorn the entrance. Quite the gem.

We've been to The White Post twice now and both times did not disappoint. This time we had the roast and the portion size was incredibly generous and all of the food was delicious. We will be going back again.

Stunning views out over the valley. Light and airy inside with a lot of glass to maximise the view, Venetian blinds for the sun. Some outside seating I'm looking forward to next spring. Parking for about 20 vehicles, but worth it for that view.
