Really disappointing experience. We came for the Sunday lunch and the food was undercooked- the chef seemed to be coming out and telling people that it was the quickest service of his life- seems strange to me to admit that you rushed everyone’s food and then make them pay the same prices. The gravy was watery, the carrots and parsnips were raw and the potatoes were oily. I understand having bad days but it is unacceptable to charge the same prices when you are aware the quality is bad. There are far better places In Cambridgeshire to go for a roast- especially considering this one cost £20 for a single plate of food!!

Quaint country pub. Friendly attentive staff. Very well cooked and presented Sunday roast. The highlight for me was the delicious, thick tasty gravy and the sublime cauliflower cheese. Definitely one to revisit.

We visiting for lunch on Saturday and had a choice of a brunch menu (served all day) or a varied lunch menu. Plenty of choice from light bites to traditional pub fayre. Everything was reasonably priced too and a good selection of wines, beers and drinks. The interior of the pub is very welcoming with seating to the front as well as a large garden to the rear. Definitely recommend and will be visiting again.

We live in Cambridgeshire, and chose White Pheasant, Fordham (first time) here to celebrate my birthday with friends. We couldn’t have picked a better place to dine in the area. Excellent food at reasonable cost. I had my favourite sticky toffee pudding for dessert and must say it was the best I’ve ever tasted. From the starter to the dessert it was mouth watering. Staff were very friendly and even the chef came out to ask how the meal was. This was the only way to end my birthday celebrations. Thank you to all staff.

This is our local, and it gets better and better. The owners are very friendly and we always have a good laugh. Richard the chef produces some of the best food I’ve had. Always happy to chat and often comes to make sure everything is okay. The seafood at the weekend was amazing. Sunday roast are too notch. This is a great place to just come and enjoy a beer or 2! Also.

We ordered the sharing roast for 5 people, £28pp which we at first thought was a little bit steep, but when the food comes out and you see how much you get, and the flavours … it is so worth it. Other roast options are also available and would be equally as delicious. The food is to die for, so much that we are taking home 3 tubs of leftovers! The meat is melt in your mouth, you get pork belly, beef done medium and chicken with crispy skin. Yorkshire puddings which are clearly made fresh as well as fluffy roast potatoes. Tons of veg, roasted and chantenay carrots, kale, parsnips, cabbage, and lots of it too. My personal favourite was the cauliflower cheese, absolutely bloody amazing…. You rarely get enough gravy when you go out for a roast, but this came with two full additional boats of hot gravy, which was clearly reduced down for hours! Best roast I have ever had, 1000% coming back!!

Not a very busy lunch time service. Sorry I could not give a 5 rating this time. The food was still very good and looked fine of fish and chips and a chicken and mushroom pie. The pie looked good but was bland with little taste. Why do you server a rich red meat gravy with chicken pie. Plenty of liquid in the pie. The restaurant was cold and no birthday wishes given even if Included on the in the booking form . Why ask if you do not take any notice.

Family birthday meal out with Family to this very beautiful pub. A roaring open fire and friendly staff greeted us on arrival. There was plenty to choose from on the menu (but not too much) The food was phenomenal. With a fussy husband I always worry if he will find anything but he was spoilt for choice. Good traditional food but on another Level! I cannot recommend The White Pheasant highly enough. The Sausage and Mash, Traditional Turkey and Braised Blade of Beef were a big hit on the table but the Gingerbread Cheese cake for me was the star of the show. All finished off with one of the nicest coffees I've had when out. Can't wait to try the breakfast and dinner menu soon.

We walked in very encouraged, lots of people for 6:30pm, there was a nice hum to the atmosphere. Service, friendliness, oh the joy of seeing a specials board. A choice of tables, we picked the wrong one with the foursome next to us hellbent on shouting to each other rather than talking. It was a table that was squeezed into the space, fully understand this but next to the wall on the Kitchen walkway I did feel cramped. The Guinness head did not show itself above the lip of the glass and the Prosecco missing any sparkle. The Chicken Schnitzel with Parmesan fries was absolutely tasteless and with no visible Parmesan. The F&C's batter was flat and holding to much oil. We booked based on the excellent website pictures so our expectations were high. I hope you fined this constructive as we wish you every success based on your lovely front of house service

The beautiful village of Fordham has a variety of excellent eateries and the White Pheasant was one of three that we tried whilst staying in Wicken at our holiday cottage. Pre-booked for this Thursday evening visit and we all chose three courses from the a la carte menu. From the moment we arrived at this bonny English public house we felt very welcome by all of the staff especially I guess, the manager/owner a Scottish chap who was very engaging on 'on the ball'. All of our meals were thoroughly enjoyed, my Pork cutlets, a fish dish and the steak chosen by other friends but a have to say that the dark chocolate/cherry dessert took me to another level- delicious. Local ale enjoyed, wine, naturally and all enjoyed with a tranquil atmosphere that enhanced the mood. Fantastic experience and good value for money.

This was our first venture to a restaurant since lockdown started. Thought it would be safe as such high quality restaurant. On arrival the restaurant looked much as normal... maybe one less table? We were not asked to wear our masks as we walked to our table - masks weren’t mentioned at all and none of staff were wearing them. In fact, the only acknowledgement of COVID was the track/trace form we completed and some hand sanitiser upon entry. The chef clearly knew a group eating in the restaurant and came out to greet them warmly, closely, shaking hands and keeping no distance... and then went back to kitchen. Later, some of the group went to see the kitchen. We were appalled and left as soon as we could. This disregard of the risks we face is completely unacceptable and as I said before we left, we won’t be returning until COVID is cured.

Visited for a birthday meal and we both enjoyed the 5 course tasting menu which I had with a flight of 5 wines. Despite me being a bit of a non-vegetarian, we cleared our plates of every morsel, and by the end of the meal (and coffees) nearly 3 hours later we were both plesantly full. The food is excellent, though we did have to enquire what several items were just to satisfy our own curiosity (ah, so that is what roast artichoke hearts look and taste like!). The wine complemented each course nicely, and Beth served us efficiently and professionally. Only two small negative points: it would be good to leave the side plates for the amuse-bouche as they were not the easiest things to eat, and the sparkling water seemed very expensive. Having said that, the whole package was a treat, and we will certainly venture here again. Complements to Calvin in the Kitchen !

Went here on New Year's Eve at lunch. It was quietish - only 4 tables taken - but they were on the ball. A shortish but well-chosen and balanced fixed price menu was offered and at £24.95 for 3 courses it turned out to be excellent value. I have to eat out a lot for work, and all over Europe. I'd be happy to bring anyone here. The presentation of all the food was good. The seasoning likewise. And the cooking first rate. Puddings were a surprise and a delight - have one! Really recommended. I will be back. The best restaurant in the area by some way, I would say (and I have tried most) and putting some of them to shame.

The restaurant is nice inside and the staff are very welcoming although it was a little cold even with the fire going. The first thing that I wasn’t so impressed with was that there were a number of complimentary tasters but at no point did the waitress ask me whether I had any dietary requirements or allergies, as a non-meat eater I couldn’t eat the lamb served first and then the amuse bouche also contained meat. On the second taster I pointed out I didn’t want it and they did bring me a meatless version, but really given the number of dietary requirements these days I would have thought this should be something asked up front. The food was fine but nothing amazing for the price, I was particularly unimpressed by the £8 bread and butter pudding for dessert which consisted of 3 small round pieces, this is not what I was expecting for the price and it most certainly wasn’t so good that I was happy to pay this type of money. To top everything off they add 10% to your bill for service charge, so the bill for 2 of us with some nibbles to start (not proper starters) 2 main courses, 1 pudding and 2 glasses of wine was over £100. I most certainly will not be going back.

In my last two visits, the food has been average, and the wine glasses have been tiny. They must be trying to cut costs because it’s really terrible value for money now. The restaurant was quiet with all two tables by occupied as we entered, waiter very pleasant explaining the special menu on the board. Very limited beer and lager selection, not a big issue. The food menu seemed expensive but we thought you’ll pay for top quality fair. £9 for an asparagus starter consisting of 4 asparagus spears and a radish cut in half! Tasted great but £9, a bit strong I feel. I’m sure some people are happy with £24 for monk fish but it’s not for us. Won’t be back, won’t be bringing work colleagues or customers.

The good news was that the staff were attentive, efficient and not intrusive and very quick to pick up and deal with any requirements. We broke with tradition and had a starter rather than a pudding which was excellent followed by the Sunday Roast which was ok. We all felt that the meat was cut too thick (Beef & Pork) and the three of us sauce's missing, the pork no Apple Sauce and the two Beef's were missing the horse radish. That having been said I would and probably will return.

As my wife and I had dined at the White Pheasant one time previously and were quite pleased, we decided to to make reservations for a Sunday roast and the 2nd time around, we just as pleased as the first time. When we first entered the White Pheasant, we were greeted very warmly by the staff and were escorted to our table. All the staff that catered to our needs were very knowledgeable, friendly and very efficient. The ambience was very nice and cosy with the light sound of jazz like music in the background. Both my wife and I had the duck spring rolls as a starter; my wife has the roast beef and I had the roast lamb for the mains and for dessert, I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was one of the best I ever had. My wife had the Strawberry Mess but was quite disappointed that she did not get the Sticky Toffee Pudding as it was an indication of just how good it was. After you enjoy a nice Sunday roast in the White Pheasant, you realize how important it is to make reservations in advance due to its popularity.

We had a special deal on the taster menu and enjoyed excellent service (thank you Anya), a good selection of wines by the glass and a couple of very good courses with nothing to let the evening down. I’d have liked a menu so that I would know what’s coming then I could plan my wines better but that’s a minor grumble. A bigger grumble would be an extensive ‘gin list’ (that’s good) at the top end of the price scale (that’s bad). But then you don’t have to drink gin. Good place. I will return.

Let me start by saying we have had some fabulous meals here, usually the several course taster menu of really interesting flavours, textures and colours. We come here to experience something really different and have never been disappointed before, and generally save our visits for a real treat.

We were a party of 11. The men in our group had come directly from the Ely Beer Festival and were eager to eat! Our table was ready for us and the waiting staff were very helpful and friendly.

This is our second visit to the White Pheasant; we loved it so much the first time that we returned this month. What we liked the most about this country restaurant is how cosy and intimate it is: management have kept the table count to a minimum, meaning it’s never crowded and noisy, perfect for a romantic dinner. On our last visit, the menu was limited to a 2 or 3 course option with 4 or 5 choices, and we really enjoyed that aspect: quicker decisions on what to eat, and everything was cooked and presented perfectly. By keeping it simple, the chef has really got it right and the quality of food is superb. The homemade bread and appetisers brought to the table were really nice touches before the meal. My personal favourite dish was the rump of lamb, which was the best lamb dish I ever ate. Add to the wonderful food a very friendly and personable service, and this restaurant is now on our top list of places to eat near Ely.

Two of us enjoyed an excellently cooked and presented dinner early on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived* but gradually got busier and the table service catered for the build up. In particular, our young waitress was a model of one seeking to serve in an amiable manner. *Nevertheless we were seated right next to a young family with two delightful but boisterous children.

Dined at The White Pheasant for the first time last night and have only good things to say. Staff were attentive without being annoying, very well trained and knew exactly how long to leave you alone before taking orders.

My first visit, been meaning to try for ages. With a large party of friends for our annual Christmas outing. Absolutely loved all 3 courses, delicious flavours and combinations and beautifully cooked. Felt it was good value in light of the high quality and portion size. Service was efficient and professional but also warm and friendly. I look forward to returning soon!

I’ve been to this splendid eatierie on a number of occasions happily. My visit was good in the main this time. Perfectly cooked scallops with a tasty pickled beetroot salad. Slight fault was an excessive amount of greenery. Then excellent roast turkey with trimmings. The turkey was moist and succulent, roast potatoes to die for with good selection of other vegetables. My only comment is that th sprouts were a little too al denote for my taste. Another couple of minutes ,or so would have been fine.

Firstly, it's in Fordham, not Ely as the caption shows - that's some miles away ! Stumbled upon this ex-pub today, although used to go there occasionally years ago, before its makeover. Rather unappealing from outside and quite easy to miss with a faded inn sign, this is a real treat on the High Street of a now-bypassed village near to Newmarket. The food is simply outstanding and the joint-owner looked after us nicely. Got busy steadily on a Friday lunchtime. Nouvelle cuisine done really well. Doesn't break the bank.

My partner and I have been really busy of late and not had chance to even breathe so decided to treat ourselves to a couples evening... we were not dissapointed. We decided on the taster menu and it really delivered, we had an evening to die for, the food was delicious and the staff were very attentive, we will be revisiting when our feet manage to touch the ground again. We have been previously and it’s always an evening we look forward to, it really brought us back down to earth after a hectic few weeks! Thank you to the team at The White Pheasant, we’ll be back soon

We came across the White Pheasant purely by chance and we are so delighted we stopped to have lunch. The welcome could not have been more warm, friendly and accommodating. The choice of food was excellent but sadly we only had time for a quick lunch so each choose one course. It was a shame we could not linger as the food was excellent. We could not explore the wine list but from what we saw it was thoughtfully put together and interesting. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed and would hope to visit again if we were in the area.

We opted to go to the White Pheasant later rather than earlier for Sunday lunch because we like to eat late on a Sunday. Unfortunately most of the specials were sold out when we arrived which was disappointing but also understandable. Service was ..luke warm (despite asking for drinks on arrival and giving our requirements) they took some time to appear and no choice given for the choice of gin. The restaurant was busy and full of children having a good time.... however, we might have been better off chosing an evening when all the little lovelies are tucked up and not screaming at the top of their lungs. Absolutely love well behaved children and love good food but clearly those little ones who are not so happy being sat at a table for any length of time ....I need say no more. Food when it arrived was good but not excellent, as I had been lead to believe. Wine list was okay but again, not extensive - expensive for what it was - yes. Unfortunately money better spent elsewhere and cannot say we would rush to return, unfortunately because I was looking forward to discovering something special locally.

Didn't stay but had dinner. Lovely chatty hosts. There was plenty of space, not too crowded. Special combo for burger and beer was a good deal. Handy to the shops and cathedral, parking just behind. Recommended by locals too, which is always a good sign.

Our favorite pub in Ely. We have a lot of reasons to say this, number 1 is that it is the location of our first date. They are always kind, and caring. The service is great and the pub does offer our favorite cider, Aspall!
