I chose this city centre pub after talking to the doorman to ascertain that I was unlikely to find any trouble inside. On entering I found a relaxed atmosphere and a mixture of clients who seemed familiar with the venue and staff. Unfortunately I think the staff were knew that evening and could not advise me on the strength or taste of any of the beers. However I was happy with the one chosen and relaxed while waiting for my taxi.

The Kings Arms is a large, straightforward boozer with no airs and graces. It’s not a tourist pub and, with its plethora of television screens etc it is clearly very much a local bar. We were welcomed by a charming young barman and our lagers were the best of the evening - and the price the cheapest by far! So no complaints here and we enjoyed our visit.

I wanted to write this as my experience in the past of this pub has not been so great however I visited last Friday night the 5th of July with a group of work friends for a evening out and Wow what a change ! The new landlords made us feel so so welcome and it was the cleanest I have ever seen this pub to be. The older gentleman (landlord) was hilarious and really made our night! What an absolute legend ! And what a change this pub has had in such a good way. (We were only going in for 1 and ended up staying all night because the older gentleman (landlord) was a right laugh and made us feel so welcome)

Very disappointed, I had heard a lot about the changes in this place. I've known it for years I worked there when I was 18 and it was my local. Since then 42 years I have seen many changes. Having moved away now I stay in touch with Ely. Having heard the pub was doing an excellent choice of real ales I decided to return. I was met by a very drunk customer who kept singing and dancing in front of me. In fact he was the only customer except for the lady he was with. I took one look at the real ale choice, two and neither appealed. But so as not to cause offence to the drunk I had a pint and stayed. I could just imagine him mouthing off if I walked out. He wasn't an aggressive drunk far from it, but the bar lady should have told him. The bar lady was pleasant and nice, I know her from another pub and she has always been that way, a good recruit for the pub. Sadly I've written this review but I think the owners need to know. I'm sure it's not like this all the time, but I won't return to find out but that's based on the choice of real ales, the quality was fine.

Following some terrible reviews from earlier in the year (including one from me!) there has been a complete change of staff. I went along on Friday night to see the live entertainment: Queenie B's drag show, which was an awesome evening of entertainment in itself. But the whole place felt a lot safer. There were a couple of bouncers who were friendly and not giving it the attitude you usually get. Which in turn seemed to attract nicer clientele. Staff were on it with the table clearing / cleaning, and the toilets were immaculate. Drinks were REALLY well priced. I don't think I've ever seen drink prices go down in a pub before. I highly recommend the Campo Viejo Rioja at just over £5 for a large glass! It's nice to actually look forward to a revisit. Well done for turning the place around!

Wow, well that was sh*t. Arrived, had our first drink, staff were unfriendly, but drinks and crowd were OK so we decided to order a bottle of wine. Literally less than one minute later, off goes the music, off go the lights. There was confusion among the patrons as it was 22:20 on a Saturday night. I was still at the bar, waiting for my receipt so asked the barman what was going on, he said they were closing as “they wanted to go home”. Gutted, we had just committed to a bottle which we hadn’t even opened and he’d not said anything about closing. I’d read a couple of bad reviews recently involving homophobia, which really put me off, but thought I’d give them a chance. Such a mistake, would never go back under the current owners. Just disgusted at their behaviour.

Tried going into this pub after a wonderful dinner last night, only for drink night to be spoiled by the bar staff's awful behavior. Not long after getting into the bar our group was collectively challenged by an absurd excuse of something like "we believe you're banned and we don't know why". I was speechless and our group left with a sour taste from a pint of Disgust. After contemplating this denial and a poor end to what started as a wonderful evening, we left the King's Arms and usurped it's crown as our spot and headed to a much friendly vibe of a pub (The Drayman's Son). Long story short, don't go to the King's Arms, even if YOU don't know why, but now we do.

Went to Ely for a trip out with my husband and his parents to see the cathedral. We stopped in the Kings Arms for lunch and we're pleasantly pleased with the service and tasty food which we all ordered. The lady who served us gave that little extra like asking if we wanted gravy rather than covering the dinner in it and if we fancied veg or not. We also had our tea pots filled up for free which we appreciated very much. Toilets were clean and there was a nice atmosphere to the pub. Thank you to the cook for our meals. Well done. The caring landlord of the KA once again delivers his choice of music across Ely City Centre. As ever, trouble taken not to warn the community. Happily he has sought advice from the council and the police which he has thoughtfully interpreted of being in favour of carrying on in any way he pleases as long everyone enjoys themselves. Please can we have more? The landlord is clearly in favour of his own activities. Oh, and another patronising response, please.

The menu was very inviting and so we chose to go with the tapas ...ordered 6 dishes between the 2 of us. It promptly arrived and wow...there was loads of food, fresh, tasty and piping hot. We ate way to much but it was so delicious, would recommend the bruschetta, asparagus, chicken nuggets ( none of your shop bought rubbish ) properly tasty fresh and tender chicken. All very tasty, beautifully presented and excellent value for money. Staff were lovely, very helpful and attentive. Will definitely call in again next time we are in town.

We visited here for lunch on a Saturday lunchtime. It was very busy and so we had high hopes. The staff are friendly and helpful and the décor is fresh, bright and clean. I ordered a jacket potato with cheese and was very disappointed with it. The potato skin was black and soggy and the potato had been kept warm for a long while as the skin had completely come away from the potato flesh. It was luke warm and the filling was very sparse. The small side salad I had with it was fresh and nicely dressed. Considering the reviews of The King's Arms, I hope this was a one off but I am afraid we shan't be returning.

Attentive and friendly staff, in an attractively decorated pub, provided a hearty lunch (ham, egg and chips) and excellent coffees. The menu was more adventurous than our choice but that’s what we fancied on a crisp November day. It was great to find a traditional pub but one which had been modernised (excellent cappuccino from a good coffee machine). Really disappointing experience. We came for the Sunday lunch and the food was undercooked- the chef seemed to be coming out and telling people that it was the quickest service of his life- seems strange to me to admit that you rushed everyone’s food and then make them pay the same prices. The gravy was watery, the carrots and parsnips were raw and the potatoes were oily. I understand having bad days but it is unacceptable to charge the same prices when you are aware the quality is bad. There are far better places In Cambridgeshire to go for a roast- especially considering this one cost £20 for a single plate of food!!
