Lived in Bingham nearly 5 years and have been in the lion a fair few times to watch football. This is the first time we've been in since it's been done up!!! Got to say that it's brilliant, atmosphere is good with both sides being full, the pool table is in a great position too. We ordered food for the first time too. The foot was excellent pub food and has certainly changed this pub from being just for sport to one where we won't just walk past again !!!! Great, well done on the change !!!!

Regular pub fayre with the price point of a better gastro pub. Burgers and chicken were ok, but like the chips and onion rings, were all really oily. A disappointing experience and over priced for the quality of the cooking.

I liked it here, I’ve been before many years ago and it’s had a massive overhaul, no more pink fluffy slippers and £5 mixed grills. I liked it, staff were spot on, menu was good, the owners have a few pubs selling gastro foods, ticked the boxes. Wasn’t mega posh, but a huge step up from the Wetherspoons. Steak was tasty, needs more local produce though.

Went for family Birthday get together, booked ! Only the 5 of us and one other table of 2 in eating! Over an hour to serve our food ( with problems in the kitchen ) we were told ! When it arrived it was mediocre to say the least! Small portions of fish, stale buns on the Halloumi burgers ,cheap and nasty coleslaw and inspide chips ! The highlight ( not ) was mahogony Brown onion and Spring onion ??? Rings ! I know times are hard and we regularly eat in the sister pub The Ruddington Arms but you need to step up if you want to survive White Lion !!!

Lovely, lovely garden, friendly and efficient staff and absolutely fabulous gastropub food that is a million miles away from the many out of a freezer bag offerings that abound. Everything was great but special mention for onion rings; teryiaki cauliflower with kimchi and smoked tomato (mindblowingly good...even for a meat eater!) and knickerbocker glory. Thank you for the nicest pub lunch I have had in a very long time!

The service at this pub is exceptional. The staff are attentive, polite and always go the extra mile. Last time we had a meal my husband had the steak which he said was the best he had had in ages. I had the prawn and coconut curry which was really good but the portion was not very generous. Although it was enough for me on that particular evening, (I was feeling unwell) on a normal day it would have left me hungry. The atmosphere was good and the pub warm and cosy,

Me and my partner have started coming here on a more regular basis as it’s fairly local to where we live. In the summer we sat outside in the garden which caters for everyone. When I heard one of my locals "The White Lion" was changing hands and getting a refurb I was sceptical about it. It used to be a no nonsense pub selling good ales and big plates of food for a reasonable price. Now it's become a sort of hipsterish "gastropub" with prices to suit. There are a couple of reasonably priced guest ales but mostly you can expect to pay in excess of £4 for your pint. The food is expensive and to be honest doesn't look as good as before. On a plus side the staff are friendly and the place does have a convivial atmosphere. Just not the same as it was.

Mostly I’m here to watch football and take advantage of burger and a pint for £10....cracking value. But there’s just little touches that make it a pleasant place to visit. A little ‘old school’ sweet shop in the corner for example, or the outdoor terrace with covered pool table. Feels more like a holiday when the sun is out rather than a pub on the main crossroads in town! Staff are always charming, I just wish they’d serve food on plates rather than wooden chopping boards but that’s a modern pub thing I’m against rather than a criticism. Go watch a game, enjoy the food and pretend you’re in the canaries if the sun is out!

You have to give minimal credit to star pubs, the place has had a twee uplift, its pleasant, upgraded and will no doubt attract new people who want an upgraded pub with expensive food. I found service laboured, it’s a restaurant that serves drinks and not a local that serves the community. I’m sure it will have its niche, but it’s a shame to see a local “ethnically cleansing” its locals who have sustained it for years . A game of pool with a blanket, hot water bottle and a fire pit ... yeah, you get the picture, and if it’s your thing , you will love it. I hope once a monther’s Can sustain it. It wouldn’t do for us all to be the same ...thank goodness

I was so looking forward to seeing how £180K had been spent in the new refurbished White Lion in Bingham and was underwhelmed to say the least, for the life of me I cannot understand where the £180K has been spent. Don't get me wrong it is nice but it really just looks as if they have tastfully tarted up the previous place and added an outside area, which if you like second hand smoke or sitting on a slope then great but otherwise not for me. The food was good, but I ate a number of times in the previous place and I wouldn't say it was that much better (but obviously the price has gone up). They had a big opportunity to make an impact in this place and I think the new owners have either missed a trick or part of the £180K was to buy the lease. The local staff as always we great and I am glad they have kept them as that was one of the key attractions of the White Lion. Will I return, yes but it won't be the first place I think of.

My family and I visited on a Sunday in October, for the first time since the refurb. When we arrived, one side of the bar was busy with the majority of people clustered around a TV, clearly watching the delights of The Championship. Having no interest in the match, we sat the other side of the bar area. We ordered a roast beef and a couple of roast porks. The beef was a bit fatty and the pork was just a chop. Both meats came with a few roast spuds, some cabbage and a spoon of (I think) mashed swede. They certainly couldn't be accused of going OTT with the veg. The drink mixer siphon wasn't working, so we had some warm lemonade and coke from bottles and an orange juice. Three drinks and three meals came to almost £50, overpriced for what we had.Was it ok? Yes, but nothing more than ok.Will we return? No, there are better, and more reasonably priced, options elsewhere within Bingham.

We occasionally loiter in this pub as child is at football training and have a cheeky pint. It used to be a proper 'boozers' pub with local workers having a pint on the way home.In August 2018 however it was taken over and extensively refurbished - turned into a more food oriented pub. We were intrigued by an appealing menu so took the teenagers one evening for a meal. The interior and exterior (pub garden) have been done up well. The four of us had fried chicken, slider selection, chicken kiev and ribeye steak. The 4 slider selection was lovely, homemade tortilla wraps and really tasty contents (pork, beef, salted cod and lamb). Chicken Kiev was moist, the fried chicken home done with tasty coating. Only the ribeye was a little underwhelming - smaller that anticipated and slightly overdone. We also had sides of onion rings which were great and included 2 spring onions in batter (wife went into raptures) and sprouting broccoli under a hollandaise (I think) sauce, which was a bit dried out from being under the grill a too long. One portion of sticky toffee pudding at the end - a little small but accompanied by a very nice ice cream (homemade - not sure)Cost of food - £65 - £70It was good enough to go back another time. And they do a loyalty card for pints - 10 stamps and your next is free

Although I have been a patron of this pub for a few years, I could never really say I liked it. However, its recent referb is quite brilliant. The outside area is fun and quirky, as well as being convivial and encouraging conversation. Inside the decor is slightly hipsterish, but pleasantly done. The staff seem knowledgeable and are friendly. I had lunch yesterday and it was terrific. Soft centred scotch eggs; juicy whitebait; delicious cheese and pickle and crisp pork pie - we had the Ploughman's platter plus sides. There was plenty of it and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was also reasonably priced. I have heard nothing but praise from other people and am pleased to confirm their enthusiasm. There are only two bugbears. One is is the price of the wine! It is very steep and meant that we didn't stay long after our meal. The other is that the dirty glasses are stacked on the bar and don't disappear quickly enough. I'm sure the latter could be easily remedied with a little encouragement from the management, but whether the former is addressed remains to be seen.

Ordered a coke but couldn't have ice and ordered a replacement bottle beer which was warm!! Where was the support for this lone female member of staff. No ice,no lemonade, warm bottled beer,no support to resolve simple issues. For the purpose of watching football it was fine hence 3 stars, just lacks attention to detail. Car broke down outside this somewhat scruffy pub. Needed a toilet and water for an overheating car. Landlord could not have been more helpful. He came out into the freezing car park armed wiith two large jugs of water which he poured into the car. Gave us advice and directed to a local mechanic who was great. Went back to pub and had two excellent coffees to warm ourselves up and the landlady who was very busy found us a table even though we had not booked. My wife had vegetarian stroganoff which she said was great. I had lasagne which I could not eat in the pub as the breakdown lorry had arrived but they provided containers and I was able to take the meal home and eat it there. It was delicious. I would also add that before seeing the mechanic I offered the landlord a payment for his help which he declined, wishing us a merry Christmas. Food was very good value and we will definitely call again hopefully under happier circumstances. What wonderful' friendly and hospitable people! An example to all in the service industry.

Outwardly a run of the mill small town pub but on a mid-week lunch-time it was busy and we were given a warm welcome. The menu was surprisingly sophisticated and varied and the prices unbelievably low. We were warned of a minor delay due to a 'manic period' but that didn't materialise and the food, served in a friendly manner, was even better than anticipated. To my regret I didn't have room for a 'pud' but the coffee was good too. A very satisfactory choice.

It was a bit busy on the lunchtime we called and the landlady was run off her feet so a volunteer was helping behind the bar. Unfortunately he was more willing than able, so the service was a bit chaotic. When it arrived the beer, York Brewery Guzzler, was excellent and the snacks were also pretty good and great value. It was good to see a pub with a whole range of people - someone celebrating her 93rd birthday, a baby that had to say goodbye to everyone as she left, a friendly dog and the rest. We were attracted by the listing in the Good Beer Guide and were pleased with the CAMRA discount and would be happy to call again next time we are passing.

This is a gem of a pub with ample food choices all at fantastic prices! It is not far from the centre of Bingham which is a lovely little market town to have a walk around. We often pop in for a bite to eat - food is always cooked and presented to a high standard. The only thing that lets this place down is the manner of the bar staff - a couple of them in particular are quite rude and very unprofessional - to the point where they make you feel everything is too much trouble for them.

Visited today for lunch, and had a great time. Cannot fault the food, and the prices were brilliant. Wish I didn't live 85 mile away - I would be there every day if we were closer

Popped in for a drink and good range of real ales to select from, all kept well. Didn't eat but the locaks were telling us that it's a real treat at very reasonable prices. Will give it a try.

Even though held up in traffic our reserved table was still available, this used to be my local 30 years ago and all the changes made have been tasteful. An excellent choice of beers wines and spirits and wow what a menu something to suit everyone. All 4 of us chose something different and when the food arrived it was cooked and presented perfectly. I couldn't believe the total of my bill and had to question it 4 meals and drinks for next to nothing no wonder this place is busy. Well done to all concerned with the White Lion, we will be seeing you again soon.

We have been for a few meals here. Can't beat it for value. Where else can you get a steak and chips with the trimmings for a fiver? Good pub grub! Staff always friendly and polite.

Visited today with my Dad for Sunday lunch. Choice of beef, pork or gammon. Our meals (beef, pork) came quickly and with thickly sliced with lots of homemade gravy. Mash, roasts and 3 veg. Good traditional puddings - dad had apple pie (def home made) and icecream. 2 roasts, one pie, a glass of red and a J2O and lemonade £17. Excellent value, piping hot homemade food - will definitely go again.

Another five star from me, I must be getting soft! This is the sort of place that is, today, worth it's weight in gold. Great welcome, proper bar (TV Pool etc), and great food in a separate lounge area (No TV, no muzak, flowers on the table, nice staff, and fantastic prices (I will say that again fantastic prices for food). Steaks cooked as requested for half the price of most other places, £2.50 for a pud...and all in comfortable relaxed surroundings. We live 200 miles away but if you are nearby this PUB is well worth choosing. I could not fault this on our visit, it's not "fine dining" but it was on our visit "the business" Use it or lose it!! Just to be clear... I have no connection whatsoever to the White Lion.

I have been to the White Lion several times over the last 35+ years. It is a fairly typical English pub, although it is showing signs of age and could use a bit of upkeep. Best visited for perhaps a pint or two in the evening and a packet of crisps and a sandwich.

Good food and drinks. Might be nice if they offer avocado on toast as an option as I would love to have that by way of a change.

This place has got a lot better! I visited a couple of years ago and was quite disappointed but today was excellent. Beautiful paninis followed by the chocolate fondue to share between 3 of us which was to die for. Staff were absolutely lovely and helpful and all in such a pretty setting. Will definitely come back.
