Brilliant village pub, great atmosphere, cosy real fire, Guinness is the best around the vale of belvoir. Thursday is pizza night, 2 home made pizzas and chips for £13, great value and delicious. Sunday dinners are great value for money but you have to order in advance as they sell out every weekend. Sunday afternoon there’s a chance of free roast potatoes.

Very disappointed in this, went there looking forward to a decent steak but the meat was tough and tasteless. Chips nothing special and salad leaves hadn't been dried properly so the overall taste was watery dressing. The boy who served us was also behind the bar and was wearing a tee shirt covered in stains ... not appealing from the outset. Wouldn't go back.

Lovely pub, warm welcome, delightful ambience, friendly and efficient service and our starters were excellent. However, 3 of our group ordered Welsh Rarebit which was, alas, not only very unappealing to look at but the cheese topping, in addition to not being quite hot enough, was virtually fluid and the toast underneath it therefore completely soggy - sorry, but it wasn’t up to much. Hungry after a long drive and after such a promising start to our lunch, this was very disappointing.

Having worked at the chequers in Churchill under a previous management, I recommended it to my group of friends for a birthday meal. We are aware the prices are a bit higher but I know the food is excellent. We were seated late and a number of options were not available on the menu, and we weren’t given the option of pre-ordering. Before the evening got any more frustrating, my friends went to speak to the manager to raise awareness at the time that we weren’t particularly pleased. This conversation resulted in the manager making my friend cry. Having worked in hospitality (as has she) I was appalled that management were so rude and upsetting. The rest of the evening was then uncomfortable and the promised discount was not taken off the end bill PLUS a £40+ service charge was added. I am so embarrassed that I recommended this restaurant and won’t be doing so again.

The food was amazing, the hospitality was fantastic. the wine list is extensive and interesting. Two faults; we have been twice, once in 2018 and again in 2019, and their meat slicer was broken both times so we are yet to enjoy the charcuterie! Also, for reasons unexplained, our martinis were served at room temperature. Absolutely everything else has been perfect both times we've visited, and next time we'll specify the martini to be shaken on ice, or else stick to the wines. Last year we stopped for lunch and split the fried chicken and the French dip beef sandwich. This year we came for dinner and had the half-pint of prawns, oysters, and a scotch egg to start, and the chateaubriand for 2 to follow. Both times we split the banoffee pot. Everything was incredible. My partner asked me to give this in writing; I am a big fan of Bearnaise sauce, and the Bearnaise at Chequers is excellent. But (the shocking part) the peppercorn sauce was actually better. I doubt I'll ever say that about another peppercorn sauce in my life. Very, very good.

Two of us had dinner here on a Thursday evening. The welcome from the host was lovely. From there, however, it went a bit downhill. After a wait, we flagged down a waitress to order drinks and food. We ordered two glasses of champagne, and when they arrived, were completely flat. We flagged the same server down and as she came to the table she asked if the drinks were flat. We took this to mean they were aware of the poor quality and still served the drinks. They were replaced. The food itself was fine. Prepared well, though my partner's hake was a tadge on the greasy side. We were taken aback by the size of the dish versus the price. It was £20 for literally a bit of fish, with some fennel on top, on a plate. Sides were £4.95 which I feel is a bit pricey given they must know people need sides to fill up. Any time we needed attention we had to flag someone down, which wasn't ideal, but more of a nuisance than anything. So overall, the service, while friendly enough when at the table, was evasive; the food, while good though not mind blowing, was overpriced; and the atmosphere was nice, though just a gastro pub type place. There are plenty of other places in the area that do better so we'll probably give this one a miss.

The food was excellent especially the rib eye that I had it was gorgeous. Even my wife who will only eat fillet tried two chunks and loved it which is unheard of! The service was very good, the clientele a little snooty but that goes with the area. The wine list was great with some fabulous wines that even I would struggle to justify at £280 for tea at the local pub. We had the whole shebang at £44 which was aged in french oak so needed food to soften the oaky finish, fabulous wine my steak

We were really pleasantly surprised by our visit to the Chequers. We visited on the Bank Holiday Weekend and the great weather meant that the pub was quiet. The food was terrific, much better than we remembered it. It is also very well priced and seemed better value than before. I understand that it is now in new hands, having passed through one or two previous owners in its current guise. It has always been a very nice looking pub and remains as it was, only with a new sharpness to the cooking. Whilst the pub looks unchanged, the cooking demands a revisit from locals that might have moved onto other places.

We arrived on time at 5pm and were advised on booking that Sunday roast menu goes until 6pm but still they couldn’t anticipate or plan for their clients. We are a mature couple who had booked a table for 8pm Friday night. We were told that there was a party in and to expect some delay. We ordered our meals by 8.30 and ten minutes later we were told that one of the meals was not available. We re-ordered and ten minutes later we were told that one of the meals was not available. 5 minutes later we were told that one of the meals was not available. Considering that the menu was not extensive we concluded that the kitchen was had seriously messed up its ordering. At no time did a member of management talk to us or apologise. The drinks were silly expensive. £12 for a pint of cider and a Cotswolds Baileys equivalent. Wine was also expensive. Our experience was not good!

Our food was excellent and the Cote de Boeuf was amazing, as was the ribeye steak. Only disappointment is that we visited this pub three times (not to eat on each occasion) and my husband tried a pint of the local brew, Hooky. First day, the beer was off - cloudy and not very pleasant; second visit the beer was lovely; third visit, the beer was off again! Also, we found the wine list quite pricey. So, a lovely village pub, with good food, but they don’t know how to keep their beer so we ventured to the nearby free house at Bledington, where they did pull a very good pint.
