The Staunton Arms in Rushcliffe

Heard mixed reviews but thought we’d try it. Vegetarian menu dull and we weren’t impressed by what we got. Wanted dessert and given menu but after 20 minutes we have up.

We came here for a meal last night as we had all previously been and enjoyed our experiences. However on this occasion we were slightly taken back; by the food and the service. The menu was nice however I could help but notice they had a lot of overlapping or similar dishes, generic bought in tartlet cases on specials and main menu, similar garnish for the dishes and desserts that were so similar the waitresses were confused when bringing them out. We had the lamb tacos, which were nice, pulled shoulder of lamb with a Thai twist, small but delicious, the mussels and chorizo and the cheese and leek tartlet which was neither good/bad. Good choice of drinks, delivered quickly initially and dirty glasses cleared off the table promptly, in the beginning. The mains arrived, beautiful homemade lamb and mint pie, sumptuous pastry incasing thick chunks of lamb and a silky gravy. Plaice and one of the specials; Double Patty Smash burgers. Everyone enjoyed the food except when it came to the burgers, I think if you're going to put specials on make them special! The patties were way over cooked to the point all moisture had disappeared, the cheese and crispy bacon only added to the rough mouthfeel, miles away from a juicy squidgy smash burger I've had in the past, prob need to look at their ratios of the different cuts or speak to a butcher and develop something better if charging £20. I'm not one to create a fuss but did take the meal back, I was offered a replacement but didn't have one as my friends were 1/2 way through there meal. One of the waitresses dealt with the complaint in a reasonable way. However coming from this career background I would have expected a bit of conversation/information directly from the manager, in the event of any complaints they should be the ones to remedy the situation. Deserts were mixed up and you could see why with the sponges pretty much being identical bar a few nut alternations, the pastry targets made an appearance again and were very mediocre. By the end of the meal the empty drink glasses were pilling up, think we had 8 empty glasses on the table by the time the desserts arrived. Staff were nice and cheerful however seemed to lack direction, busy clearing down the bar areas (21:30) on a Thursday when people are still eating and drinking.... hmm. Manager again nowhere to be seen! All in all, we had a nice time as friends, however for the prices charged (£164.85) it didn't live up to expectations I'm afraid, we would come again for the benefit of doubt but won't be rushing back!

We'll be back next year! we stayed in the Cottage so that our dog could join us. The cottage is stunning with beautiful grounds, a 1 minute walk to the pub for dinner and breakfast. We loved having a hot tub and sauna, the staff took care of everything for us. Next year we'll stay longer. We enjoyed our dinner with the rest of our family, totaling 9 people, breakfast was also lovely. An organized, friendly and welcoming team and location. Highly recommend. I went there for a beer after a walk. The Bass was spot on. Friendly, helpful staff.

My husband & I popped in for a quick bite to eat of a hot summer Friday afternoon. We opted for a sandwich each & an alcohol free beer. The beers were great, cool & refreshing & my bacon, brie & cranberry sandwich on brown bread was delicious. However, my husband had the warm beef with caramelised onion & stilton on white bread. The beef was so tough he couldn't chew it & couldn't cut it with a knife & the white bread was hard. Unfortunately he left a chewy mess on the plate as he couldn't eat it. We didn't complain as they appeared busy preparing for a party & by then my husband didn't fancy anything else. We'll give then another go as hopefully this was just an unfortunate one off.

Lovely sunny afternoon sitting outside watching the world go back in a beautiful scenic village. The service , food, wine and beer list , plus prices are very competitive for the large portions received 10/10 Staff 10/10 Ambience 10/10 Service. Thank you and hope to see you again soon.

We love this pub anyway but they completely excelled last week for our wedding reception. We pre ordered 16 meals and each and every one was perfect and delicious. Things couldn’t have been better. Table was laid and decorated beautifully. They even cut our cake up and boxed it up for all to take home. Thanks so much to manager Meg and her team. We will see you soon!

Visited for an evening meal. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu was creative and the food was delicious. The pub was traditional and the atmosphere was pleasant. The loos were clean and well kept.

Today we landed at sunny Staunton for a Sunday lunch. The front of house was most accommodating with regards to our prior seating arrangement and happy to sit us outside to catch the rays. We were offered a high chair for our granddaughter but found that the benches we sat at were at the right height for her age to dine at (she is 3). The service was excellent, attention to detail of serving our group and checking that we were adequately hydrated too The beer on tap was clearly looked after as it was both cold and crisp, the Sunday dinner we had was absolute ROCK-STAR! The meat was cooked well, crackling seasoned to perfection and the gravy was monumental. cooked well, served hot and tasted delicious. The desserts were most generous, borderline two portion. For less than £30 per head with dessert (not including drinks) it was a most joyous occasion indeed. set on the backdrop of green fields and the theme tune of wild hedgerow birds made it a very tranquil and pleasant experience. We had a wonderful time and I will certainly go back again to sample the rest of the country fare/,menu on offer. Thank you to all of the team for making our visit feel very personal and providing such a high quality of service/professionalism!

Disappointed. Had family over and wanted a nice meal. Felt the menu was limited. Only one steak (although two sizes). Quite a wait between the menu and drinks arriving and the order being taken. I had the only starter which was marinated prawns on what was a large slab of dry bread. Ate the prawns which were fine, but cut the bread in half. For mains my wife and sister in law had the scampi which was average. I had the Staunton pie with mash and veg. The pie was fine. The veg was over cooked and there was a mountain of it. The mash came in like a roll. It was very dry and I doubt it had butter or milk in it. I ate about half and we complained and it was taken off the bill. I felt the box with salt pepper mayo and ketchup was reminiscent of a greasy spoon. There was already a nice pair of salt and pepper mills on the table. We declined the uninspiring pudding menu reflecting on our experience so far. Such a shame this place used to be so good.

Stayed overnight en route from south coast to Northumberland. Lovely atmosphere on entering and warm, too which was great considering the weather was pretty awful! Lovely large room with double window views over countryside. Dinner was excellent, outdone only by breakfast the next morning - don't miss the kippers! Staff are all outstanding and make you fell a very valued guest. Brilliant!

We went here for Sunday afternoon drinks, a lovely venue, and a beautiful location. Didn't eat today but the food looked delicious. We will be returning and have booked a Sunday lunch. Now we have been for Sunday lunch, trust me you will not be disappointed. The food quality is very good, the portions are superb, the choices will leave wondering did I pick the best. In a nutshell you will not be going home hungry.

Stayed for two nights whilst down from Scotland as competing local to here. Very accommodating as we were late for our booking but table was held and service was great. We managed breakfast first morning (great breakfast)but due to leaving so early the second morning, we could pick from the menu and the front of house provided a packed lunch for the road home as we were up and away before the kitchen would be open. Try the steak pie, it’s a good steak pie.

Nice location and setting. The toilets looked a bit grubby. The food was a bit average and my Wife's scampi chips... had 5 chips which was a bit tight I thought! Dessert was nice - probably the highlight.

Great place to eat. Service is excellent, the food is consistently very good. Love the lite bite lunch menu. Prices are competitive and I believe fair. Busy and bustling but not in a detrimental way. I like it very much

We found this pub on Google as we were travelling to the area for a special occasion and it looked good. When we got to the pub, we were pleasantly surprised of the beautiful country location and the welcome we received. Two of us are vegan and were extremely impressed with the vegan menu (not just one option!), but when the meals came out we were delighted, they were fantastic - taste and presention! Excellent chef!! We had the most fantastic experience and it made the birthday family get together even better. We are already planning our return visit as we really really enjoyed it. Well done to the chef, the team and the owner, great place! The only disappointment is that we didn't discover this beautiful pub years ago.

We stayed here on mother's Day. The pub was extremely busy as you would have expected. But the service was excellent, smiling attentive staff, fabulous Sunday roast. It's great to watch a busy pub/ restaurant in full swing when everyone knows what they are doing and customer service is top of their list. We stayed the night in well proportioned rooms that had just been refurbished. Very quiet, warm and comfortable beds. What more could you want. Breakfast was excellent. A great stop on the way up to Northumberland from the south.

My husband and I came for lunch upon the recommendation of a friend. I am a coeliac and often find only the most basic/usual gluten free meals on offer so seldom eat out due to boredom. Here it was so refreshing to find over half the menu offering gf options. We both opted for fish and chips - in my case, because the gf option is so very rarely available. We both agreed our meals were fabulous. Piping hot, clearly freshly made, a generous plateful, and promptly served with a smile. The only thing here that was average were the prices! We are in the bar which was completely full, and there was a great vibe going. Locals were very friendly and welcoming. We will come again and we will also book DBB as a gift for our son and his wife when they next come over to Nottingham for a visit.

After a drive out from West Bridgford we stumbled across this lovely country pub and was pleasantly surprised! Friendly and attentive staff and a really good Vegan menu which suited one of us (and that’s usually a difficult task). The nut roast and the lamb shank were both enjoyed thoroughly and had it not been for the fact that we had been called to collect a sick child from School, we would’ve gladly stayed longer. This leaves the door open for a second and hopefully many subsequent visits. I wasn’t sure if I saw a Vegan pudding, but that would definitely be most welcome! Many thanks and see you again soon

We visited the pub for dinner last night to celebrate a big birthday and the trip was worth it! The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was lively but relaxed and the building is lovely. Normally I find when you look at a menu you only really want one or two things from the menu but we all found it really hard to choose a main! Everything sounded so good. Between the 3 of us we had the sea bass, sirloin steak and beef pave for a main which were all fantastic, for desserts we had the treacle tart and the chocolate and pistachio ganache. The desserts we as good as the main and different compared to other pubs which was a nice change. We're big eaters but the portions were so generous we struggled to finish dessert! We'll definitely be visiting again!

We stayed here for our friends birthday recently. We cannot fault anything. The food was superb as were the staff who were exemplary. The room was lovely and really well maintained. The whole experience was wonderful and we would highly recommend the Staunton Arms to anyone wanting to eat or stay here.

Visited for New Years Day 3 course lunch. Excellent atmosphere, service and food was faultless. Would highly recommend.

We loved our 2 night stay here. Its a lovely quaint hotel. The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. The food was absolutely amazing including the full English. Rooms are comfortable . I would definitely recommend it. A big thank you to the owner and the mannagerss.

Came for a meal here with my parents and boyfriend before Christmas, something that should have been a lovely experience turned into a nightmare very quickly. Upon arrival I got lock in the ladies loo as the lock broke. Only option to jump over stall. My mother & I both had the Turkey, we both thought it was tastes & dry, the roast potatoes and parsnips were under cooked. I went for a dessert which was on the special board hoping that was going to be a better experience, unfortunately it didn’t reach expectations. I took one mouthful and couldn’t eat the rest. When I spoke to the manager about my experience with my dessert, Turkey & loo. He acted like he couldn’t careless and refused to rectify the bill as the pretty much untouched dessert that was over £8 was there on there. I love supporting local businesses and restaurants during this current crisis as I believe it is important. However on the flip side I do expect the management to be able to hear you out and listen to any concerns you may have over the food especially when you haven’t even touched it. We all walked away very disappointed.

A glowing review for The Staunton Arms and everyone working there. We booked based on its convenient location just off the A1, a good stopping off point for a journey north. Bed and breakfast, plus dinner. The welcome was really friendly and efficient. The dinner was superb - we had the pie and it was so good, along with nice wine and good beer. Again, all staff were really friendly and the service was impeccable. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable, really quiet. Breakfast was amazing! Thanks to everyone there. I thoroughly recommend The Staunton Arms and I’m sure we’ll be back.

Me and my husband had a table booked for 7pm on greeting staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was cozy maybe a bit noisy for us but we were sat next to a Christmas table so it’s to be expected! The meal Came out in no time and was very nice would recommend for sure

Great food, fantastic and friendly staff

Possibly the worst Sunday lunch we have ever experienced, terrible roast potatoes,no mash potatoes and very boring vegetables. Poor value for money. Could not recommend.

We were seated originally in the back of the restaurant, on a table of 8 - there was 2 of us. We asked to move as it felt out of the main restaurant and cold. Lighting was poor too. The service was pretty much non existent and felt awkward when we did interact with staff. There was no atmosphere, and they even turned the music off at one point which made it worse. The food was bland and had no flavour. The table was dirty and there were loads of flys around. Very disappointing as we have been on a few occasions before and been lovely.

Stayed here 2 nights last week travelling from North Wales for a wedding at nearby Langar Hall. Room spacious, clean and comfortable with a large en suite bathroom. We were opposite the kitchen in the Elston room and were fore warned about a possibility of kitchen noise and found it not to be any problem in our circumstances as we wanted to up handy and were late to retire. The only thing missing, maybe a net curtain at the ground floor window as when dressing, kitchen members passed by which surprised us as it was open fields beyond the hedge. 🤣 We enjoyed dining in on our 1st night and thoroughly enjoyed the enormous steak and ale pie. Staff all very friendly and accommodating. Breakfasts delicious too. Staff went above and beyond on the day of the wedding as we were let down by taxi's and a Staff member personally drove the 4 of us in her own car 'saving the day'. We thank you again and we will definitely be back to enjoy some more fabulous hospitality. Susi and Andy

Had the mini fish and chips which was plenty for me and left me room for the chocolate brownie which was delicious. My friend enjoyed her meal too. The service was efficient but not rushed and the staff were very pleasant. Although it was a midweek lunchtime there were quite a number of people in and a friendly buzz about the place. A pleasure to dine there.

The Stauton Arms was recommended to us by the Orston Shooting Club and it certainly didn't disappoint. The onion rings were just the best. The staff were very helpful and friendy. A really good place to go for a pub lunch if you're in the area.

You couldn’t make it up. We arrived at 820 pm Lots of empty tables but we were told sorry the kitchen can’t cope so we can’t have any food. Not fully booked just simply couldn’t be bothered to make anymore food Suggested we eat bags of crisps A shame as actually a vey nice pub and we have stayed here before. I’d say that the staff simply couldn’t be bothered I

Just had lunch there today for my 50th birthday! Absolutely delicious food. Mediterranean veg soup and a lamb main. Both simply 10/10. Will definitely return! Exceptional service too. Nice quiet village pub atmosphere 😊

What a great place to visit. Wonderful location, great atmosphere, stunning food and a great selection of beers. Add to that the wonderful customer service and you just have to drop by. Definitely worth a visit

We have stayed at the Staunton Arms annually for the last 3yrs, as part of our big trek from the South East coast to North Yorkshire. The pub provides an excellent standard of accommodation, the staff are welcoming and the breakfasts are delicious. Have sampled an evening meal there too on occasions, and although the pub seems to get quite stuffy, there’s not much to be done about that when it’s fully booked, and the food has always been lovely. Our son is a fan of the supply of colouring books but prefers his own crayons!! The bedrooms are comfortable and nicely furnished but I feel the bathrooms could do with a refresh. I can’t really complain given the price paid, but considering the standard of the bedroom areas, I feel the bathrooms let it down. Also, I did notice that lots of the ‘hidden’ areas (behind doors, skirting boards) could do with attention as they were very dusty and cobwebby. I’m not in the habit of inspecting rooms with an outstretched finger, just noticed when I was sitting on the floor by the big mirror doing my hair.

We attended this venue while staying nearby. I opted for the sirloin steak which was on the specials board. It lived up to the specials tag. My steak was perfectly cooked as medium rare and was obviously well rested prior to serving. It was so tender I think a butter knife would have sufficed never mind the steak knife. The thick hand cut chips were also well cooked. My partners salmon was also lovely. Thank you for a lovely meal in pleasant surroundings with very helpful and friendly staff.

Booked a table for 2 for our Wedding Anniversary meal very early evening but didn't eat a thing! Took to a table in a stuffy hot dingy alcove with no natural light we declined to sit there and politely requested another table. There were 2 other tables for 2, obviously booked out but they could have swapped them around with ours but they wouldn't (maybe because they had stated not to sit in there) I then requested if there was a table for 2 in the bar but they pointed to one by the main door. There were much nicer tables empty and available but I felt because we turned down the other table, they wanted to be nasty. At this point we left. Absolutely disappointed by the whole experience. Cannot believe they let us walk out. Went to Whittakers in Bennington and had a beautiful meal perhaps you did us a favour!

The starter was poor - red onion and feta tartlet with burned feta. The main course was excellent, I had pork and my partner had duck. Great food, well cooked and very tasty. The desert course was another disappointment - blackforest Sundae - this was just a load of chocolate ice cream withe some black cherries at the bottom. There was a small squirt of canned cream on the top. Very disappointing. The service was excellent - attentive staff an the environment lovely and relaxed, shame about the food

Visited a few times and have always received a warm welcome and the food never disappoints. Not an extensive menu but well prepared and the chunky chips are delicious. Gets busy so might be worth a call ahead.

Food was lovely! Although service was a little slow I would return due to amazing quality of food.

My wife and I have just completed a 3 night stay and are very happy indeed. The room was comfortable and functional with everything that we needed. The service we received was excellent and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. We also had breakfast and evening meals everyday and both the quality and quantity of the food was really impressive. Would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely meal at The Staunton Arms. The staff and the manager were so welcoming and the service was really excellent. The ambience was so good . I will definitely be returning again in the near future.

Stayed here for 1 night on our way back home. Our room was way bigger then expected and was very comfortable (especially the bed!). We had dinner down at the restaurant. Food was good, servers were kind. Also had breakfast before we left in the morning. Because you have to order the breakfast it took a little longer then expected, but they were pretty fast. All in all a very nice place to stay!

Country pub in small village which makes it quite isolated! Well worth the drive! Easy access from main A52..

Just returned home from a one night stay at the Staunton Arms and have had an amazing break away. As a family we had both the hotel accommodation and the cottage which is just a short walk away. I’ll start with the cottage, we couldn’t wait to get into the hot tub which was already heated for us to jump straight in, the views are stunning with a water fountain nearby too. The cottage is impressive, it’s huge, you will not worry for space indoor or outside, so many amenities included, too many to list! We all enjoyed a super evening meal, not one complaint from our group of 7, they dealt with my daughters food allergy too which is a big worry for me usually so this is worth the mention. We had a comfortable nights sleep in our huge beds and enjoyed a fantastic breakfast and a great choice, the full English is highly recommended. Sad to leave, a real treat and lovely breakaway for one night. Would happily visit again.

Called in for lunch . Lovely country pub and I can recommend the fish and chips , really good layout of tables so your not on top of other diners . Very nice outdoor dining area and plenty of parking.

A nice country pub with good parking and full of character We had booked for a lunch following some good recommendations from friends. Unfortunately, my wife’s prawn cocktail starter was off, whilst the other 3 starters were excellent my wife didn’t want to make a fuss about it. When the manager asked if my wife didn’t like it, she explained that the prawns were “off” and as someone who eats sea food all the time, she knew from the smell and first bite the the dish was “off” When she explained this to the manager, he became very defensive and stated, they had been serving the prawn cocktail all weekend without a problem. My wife simply stated, she knew what she was talking about and it was definitely “off”. The took it away, in an agitated manner and cleared the table with a dismissive attitude. Baring in mind, we had not made a scene about it , just simply left it there was no need for him to behave in they way he did. Fair play to him, he did however come back to the table and admitted that the prawns were indeed off and said he was embarrassed by it. However, there was no offer to consider offering another starter, or even a drink as a gesture of good will. The main meals were excellent and it was a shame that the attitude regards the starter spoilt our experience and even worse was his comment when we went to pay that “he hadn’t charged us for the prawn cocktail . REALLY…..we had to say, I should hope not.. Not the best customer service experience

Called in ( again ) to our favourite pub for an early doors drink. As usual we had fabulous service from Julian, Sam and Emily (who can all spot an empty beer glass from yards away and deliver a fresh pint to your table) and the team. We really do enjoy coming here so much - so comfortable and a wonderful atmosphere. Great beer and wine. Brilliant .

Food nice but mean on the veg, one large carrot and 2 roast potatoes im sure where not on children rations, beer overcharged £6.50 @ pint 🍻🤔really

Visited here on a Friday night for date night. Place was busy but we had booked a table and were seated straight away. Good range of options for all courses. Great service. Food was really nice. The courgette linguine is highly recommended!

We just had a single night stay, dinner bed and Breakfast. Absolutely top service and great food. (Cheeseboard 👍) Everyone made us feel really welcome and we can't wait to visit again.

First visit in a long time and it was truly fabulous, delicious food and great service! The staff really are great! The beef was tender, vegetables fresh and the meal was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We can’t wait to return!

Pleasant atmosphere and welcoming staff. Basic seating so can be uncomfortable over time. Menu varied, good choice for everyone. Food presented well. Food not hot enough. Had pot of tea which tasted of chlorine. Not a revisit for us unfortunately.

I have just returned home after my visit to England and had the opportunity to stay at this wonderful wee gem of a pub in the beautiful countryside of Nottinghamshire. The food was excellent and the staff were all so friendly and always eager to help ! I shared a twin room with a friend and we had a fabulous time . I can highly recommend it and when next back in the area would most definitely book again! Once again , many thanks to the proprietor, Julien and his wonderful and friendly staff , who all made us feel so welcomed !

Wow, what a lovely hidden gem. We stopped in crew yard cottage, amazing all mod cons, then family room in the pub also amazing. The mini me liked the play stations in both rooms and the fabulous breakfast. Beds were very comfortable and Sunday lunches...

Visited the Staunton arms with my son today. When we arrived we saw that only 5 people ( party of 3 and one of 2) were sat in the bar area. The party of 3 had been eating a meal. I asked to sit in the bar area as it’s much nicer than the space they call “the restaurant” as it’s too bright there and quite stark looking. The lady told us ( despite nobody being there) “ Sorry, the bar area is fully booked and reserved for customers!” There is a table for 2 in the ‘restaurant’ … I looked at her in disbelief, but accepted we had to sit in the restaurant ( or area they ‘call’ a restaurant. We left at 8:45pm and NOBODY had ‘arrived’ to the bar area … so the only conclusion is, she lied! I noted the staff didn’t have to walk far from the kitchen to their restaurant area, so perhaps it was “her” decision to round everyone up into a space “she” wanted people to sit? Fair enough …. But when you spend £71 on two mains, two desserts and 4 drinks, you should be able to sit where you prefer and not where a sarcastic member of staff herd you into. The food? Below average and disappointing…. Burger tasted weird, custard was cold and lumpy and the brownies were rock hard. Perhaps one to avoid for anyone looking for a hassle free, decent meal with good value. Over expensive and an uncaring place … it’s run like a cheap travel lodge is the impression I got. There are better places within a 5 mile radius. Sorry to be negative but just putting this out there for people to be aware of. Thanks.

Great food lovely atmosphere fantastic staff

Amazing Sunday dinner at a very reasonable price and later bookings than most for those of us who don't like to eat too early.

Stopped in for a very early Friday night meal with my son. We were not disappointed with a warm welcome and delicious food pork belly and blade of beef give this pub a try.

Excellent service and menu. My choices were worthy of 5 stars.

We visited for lunch today. I had a table booked but we arrived early. The staff kindly fitted us in but made us aware there were 2 large parties dining so food may be a bit delayed. I have to say food all came out...

We have been here on many occasions and keep coming back, even though we live much closer to other pubs. The guest beers are always fantastic, the food is always very good and nothing is too much trouble. Definitely recommended!

Brilliant food, service and staff. Accommodation was great, clean spacious and comfortable. A great experience in a very relaxing English pub.

Lovely people, good food. The room was okay - but the owner should sleep in the beds sometimes: the mattress in my room and that of my friend needed changing. I ended up piling the pillows up and sleeping on top of them so I could no longer feel the springs.

We went mid week with friends, 2 people ordered fish and chips £14.95 each, 2 ordered pie and chips £16.00 each, pretty expensive for pub food and surroundings. We all got 6 chips each which is quite honestly ridiculous. The fish was nice enough but...

Went for a change of scenery . Payed for the 3 courses Sunday lunch . Chose the Tomato Soup , followed by roast beef and finished with the cheese board ( usually a sweet toothed person ). It was all fantastic , staff were great...

Only visited for a few pints but excellent beer...good bar staff...and restaurant busy which tells a story in itself...so all good...
