First time visiting this restaurant after reading the lovely reviews. Expecting to have a lovely cooked breakfast in the restaurant to start our day only to be told restaurant not open due to no staff. Take away only Had 2 baps and 2 coffees £18 very disappointed the baps were small brioche buns. Won’t be returning..

Excellent service, fresh hot food, reasonably priced, very clean, can't fault it, much better than the big service stations.

Fabulous luxury hot chocolate - no issues there at all. However the charmless and quite frankly aggressive female who barked at us “you can’t sit there you haven’t paid to ‘eat’ in” when we dared to perch on one of the seats INSIDE the takeaway area as “it’s for restaurants customers only” (which incidentally was empty but for one table and was actually cordoned off from the takeaway bit). We would have happily paid the extra 75p to sit somewhere other than our car for 10 minutes after a 4 hour drive but hey - that was never offered. There is a way to explain things. Add tact and diplomacy for a start. This woman had zero customer service skills. But she was seemingly OK with the guy who served us munching his chips and beans on top of the counter he was serving us from. A bunch of amateurs basically.

The restaurant, car park & picnic area are tucked away behind the garage and is the best comfort break u could wish for. We have been visiting this place for over 20 years on our journeys in & out of Devon & Cornwall. Lots of parking & open spaces for the kiddies to let off steam plus a very reasonably priced restaurant. It has been refurbished since our last visit & is covid friendly with a one way system & seating. The staff are extremely friendly and the food & drinks very very good. We visited for lunch before driving over Dartmoor and tea & coffee on our return from Cornwall.

Needed a break from driving and some food so stopped here on Sunday on the way home from Bristol airport, didn't expect more than the usual awful service food but we were pleasantly surprised. Greeted by a lovely friendly waitress. We ordered the steak and kidney pie, chips and veg. It was a large portion, huge tender pieces of steak and kidney and 4 different types of fresh vegetables, all home cooked. Yes, it probably was warmed up in the microwave but the fact that it was cooked from fresh and not bought in made such a difference. We had tea with the meal and we took home some delicious huge pieces of flapjack all for less than £30. We would definately stop here again.

We stopped for a quick lunch here. It was very clean and friendly. It is off the A30 and is easy to find. It is a proper service area. We had prawn sandwiches with a nice salad - well presented. It came quickly and the staff were helpful and friendly. Would recommend this place. The meal was good value for money.

I think the food is cooked at a local crematorium... chips were stale with some hot and others cold, bacon like cardboard, sausage!!! RIP. Burger was cold served under a warm egg. Cafe was very empty so no excuse for poor standards. When they say pot of tea they mean just less than a mug!! We will never go here again however it was clean in seating area and, the disabled toilet was clean.

Having been here several times, I quite agree that specials are the best. Cake is awful! It is chips with nearly everything after five, however curry has never failed us. Sometimes staff are fab other times it is a case of they would rather be somewhere else sooner rather than later.

Have stopped here several times on visits to Cornwall, always have a good well cooked homemade meal, plenty of choice and very reasonable prices, the staff are always pleasant, they always seem very busy but we never seem to have to wait long for our meal

The Whitehouse is shown as Services just of the Okehampton junction off the A30. I looks like a large café, but you won't find any junk food here, just really good, simple food that tastes home cooked. As a family we can't go past on our holidays, we have to go in, especially after a really good walk on the moor.

Use to use this as a breakfast stop on way to Cornwall each year, but have become disillusioned. However decided to give supper a go on way home this year. Restaurant clean, but behind wooden centre piece next to us stood mop & bucket (not too hygienic). Service slow. Partner pointed out if he was in his truck, he'd have run out of break & would have had to leave meal. When asked told delay because cooking fresh - we'd only ordered burgers & chips. Watching seemed dealing with one tables order at a time - not ideal on busy Friday night. Felt like boss away so staff on a go slow. On a positive note, the garage at the services were very helpful & friendly.

We stopped at the filling station for a diesel refil on our way back from a visit to St Ives in Cornwall. We noticed the White House restataurant on the same site and decided to try it. What a surprise. They serve all sorts of meals including roast dinners. You can also have a smaller portion at a smaller price if you wish. The roast dinners were excellent, the service was prompt and very friendly. The prices were very reasonable and the place was spotlessly clean with a very relaxed atmosphere. We shall definitely be calling there again when in the area. On the way down to Cornwall we stopped at Sedgemoor services on the M5 and were totally ripped off with three coffees and sandwiches coming to over £20!!! Need I say more!!

Stopped off on route from Weston to Newquay for breakfast seeing as this place is situated in a service area I was expecting the usual overpriced poor quality food you normally associate with service station food. What we found was a clean well-organised restaurant with good fresh food, friendly staff and even a nice view all at a very reasonable price. If your heading along the A30 it is well worth the stop, shame there was not any honey on the menu

Unfortunately we live to far away to go and eat here on a regular basis (some 75 miles) but if you are travelling up or down the A30 this restaurant is a must!! If you live close, you are lucky people and I envy you. The prices are excellent for their normal large menu meals and for their very large ( I am glad they do small portions) roast meals. Well done White House, you keep a clean, friendly house with wonderful food.

We visited here whilst in the area for a few days unfortunately we found the White Hart Inn not until our last evening and we wished we found it on our first. The staff were very welcoming and friendly we felt most welcome it kind of made our trip being here. The food was superb and we could not believe the devon prices so reasonable sort it out cornwall! Easy double the price back home half the taste. Plenty of parking, dog friendly, will leave with change. We speak often of going back

Highly recommend this traditional family run pub. The Landlady is the hardest working person I have ever met and always with a smile on her face. She made us so welcome as did the locals. Lots of locals (good sign) and excellent menu. Not too fussy - just good traditional pub food. I had the sausages & mash with onion gravy with freshly cooked vegetables. Great desserts. We stayed overnight on a Devon Coast to Coast bike ride. My room in the main building was clean, fresh sheets and a bath!!! Essential on a bike riding trip! Views from the pub are stunning when the sun is shining. There is a caravan park out the back. There is cottage accommodation as well which is basic. I encourage you to visit and support them.

The Post Inn, a stone's throw from the Whiddon Down Travelodge and seemingly the only viable food option within walking distance. Upon reading the overwhelmingly glowing reviews me and my fair lady excitedly headed for dinner post exploring Dartmoor in much need of freshly made home nourishment. Ambience wise the place is interesting, definitely a local's English Pub. Various old world Bric a brac and guitars adjourned the walls alongside the vibrant plastic plants. For the drinkers, a nice selection of local ale and ciders from the well stocked bar, no complaints here. Now onto the food...mid range priced at Gastropub levels we were both anticipating some well cooked locally sourced produce from a competent chef. What we received was even more soulless than a Wetherspoons microwave meal for double the price and without the free pint! Fish and chips, £16 I thought to myself 'An English Classic, It'd be hard to mess this up' A brief wait and what arrived was an overcooked piece of frozen fish drier than the Sahara desert with the batter rock hard and probably best used as a cricket bat. Frozen peas hopefully steamed but possibly microwaved and unseasoned. The Fries were OK but clearly just frozen and dumped into the frier. The little Lady, she ordered a burger which again really lacked any taste and seemed frozen or boiled to temperature served for her in an inedible GF bun. She fed it to the Pub dog and hoped the poor thing wouldn't choke to death. Food Price and quality seriously letting the place down. Once bitten twice shy.
