The White Horse Inn in North Norfolk

Ate here yesterday. It's a good big pub with an extensive drinks menu and good food. However, the high spot was the service provided by the two front of house staff. Happy to indulge me with samples of 2 beers, their Wherry was lovely and the APA awesome. I left, happy and full with a 2 pinter to go. Strongly recommend - and just a few minutes walk from Neatishead Staithe if you're on a boat as we were.

Great bar service and ales & ciders! Restaurant not so good! Forgot my starter, which on asking staff, it came out later with no reason given apart from there had been a mix up, and after my hubby had eaten his! Main meals were served a few seconds after I’d eaten my starter! Which we were not ready for! But obviously they had been sat waiting to be served as on their arrival mine was Luke warm, so I sent it back! Around 5mins later a member of staff came out and said what would you like us to do, I said whichever the chef thinks is best! On her return she said do you want him to warm it up or would you want another making, by this time my appetite and their lack of professionalism dampened my appetite! So I cancelled my meal!! If they had been honest from the beginning this review would not have been written! We were on a boat on the broads and love the pubs and restaurants in certain areas! Their other pub at Thurne gave us excellent service with red hot starters and main courses!

Friendly staff and very busy pub. Ordered two starters of squid and halloumi fries. Plenty of halloumi but for the price paid a very very small portion of squid. Steak and truffle fries were cooked nice but missing the tomato. Sausage and mash was very bland. Was expecting some really nice homemade or local sausages but these just tasted like they were a bit cheap and out of a packet. Place was very busy so maybe just picked the wrong choice of food. Not sure we would go back as just average really.

On previous visits the food has been delicious so we were really looking forward to this visit. Whilst the service and choice of drinks is still very good, the food was very disappointing. I had belly pork which was dry and chewy. The potatoes and veg served with it were unpleasant…. clearly reheated and very flavourless. The sauce was poor. For £25, this should have been so much better. My husband had the pie which was pretty tasteless. The puff pastry top was soft like it had been microwaved. His veg were also very overcooked. The beer and gin we had was very nice and the service was lovely… although when I complained about my meal, I just got a shrug and ‘sorry about that’. We always try and moor at Neatishead, partly so we can visit the pub. We won’t bother again unless we hear that the food has gone back to previous levels.

Had a lovely 2 course lunch today and a couple of drinks , food was great as was the service and staff , the steak and ale pie is one of the best I’ve had , wife really enjoyed her fillet steak , will definitely be back soon .

Booked for a relatives birthday as we have eaten here regularly in the past as it local to us. It was busy but not full. We arrived and asked about our booking. We were abruptly told to go and ask at the bar. We then waited 15 minutes with our elderly relative left standing. We had an issue with lack of ID for 2 of our party who were 20 but nevertheless refused alcoholic drinks even though it was with a meal with parents and grand parent. It then took 50 minutes for any food to arrive. The burgers were burnt and the home made pie was extremely salty. No dressing on the salads. We were constantly asked who drinks were for and although we were asked if everything was ok, it was clear staff were not particularly interested and I felt the attitude was that they just wanted us to finish and leave. In fact we did leave and had deserts somewhere else. Afraid that on this occasion our experience was not good and the service was at a very low level.

Went in for lunch. Busy but not full and ordered at the bar. We were not advised of how long the wait would be. Went to the bar after 40 minutes. Told another 10-15 minutes. About 20 minutes later food arrived. Staff friendly but when complained were not particularly interested. Food ok but wait far too long with no warning. Nice pub but on this visit disappointing.

Having stumbled upon the White Horse Inn last year and having such a wonderful experience…..yesterday was a complete let down. Arriving at midday to order a round of drinks then to peruse the menu (4 adults and 3 kids), we soon after went to place a food order and was told we had to wait over an hour as they were at capacity…..the pub was empty 😳 Rude bar staff and no interest in informing us upon arrival of the situation. Hugely disappointed.

Boom - amazing ! DOG FRIENDLY .The staff are just lovely and made you feel so welcome . There's loads of beers to choice and the staff are more than happy to talk you through them . The food was fab - I had the steak pie with veg and large chips my wife had the lemon sole. We had a few drinks ! Our bill was £102 - but we felt it was worth it . The food was lovely , the staff really friendly and the people in the pub were lovely ! Perfect evening and a walk back to our boat which took about 15 minutes.

We dropped in without booking having never visited before and luckily there was seating for 4 available. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. There was a great menu which catered for everyone and the excellent food arrived promptly. We were so full on the main course that we didn't look at the desert menu. Lovely venue and decor and we will be back for sure.

Terrible very quite only 2 tables in , wrong drinks brought , I had a smothered BBQ chicken burger defiantly not smothered struggled to find the BBQ sauce chicken burnt on the edges very hard a few chips £14.95 robbery , a KFC burger would have been a lot better taste put together and a lot cheaper and I would have got the correct drink. When I mentioned about the drinks and food nothing done or offered typical poor pub food no wonder they are all shutting serving below par food at high prices.

We tried a few pubs during our short trip around The Broads, and this was definitely our favourite. The first reason is that it sells decent beers and lager. Second - it is in a really nice old building, with character. Third - it is in the centre of a small but pretty village - and only a 5 minute walk away from the Boat Moorings. The isn't much room at these moorings and access is tight, after a narrow meander through some gorgeous woodland. It is also surrounded by some very expensive looking residential properties, with signs asking visitors to be respectfully quiet. I recommend getting there reasonably early and have the ability to manouvre your boat with care.

Stopped for beers on our cruise on the broads x well worth navigating our massive cruiser down the dyke to the village which even the boatyard said wasn't easy to do x lovely proper pub with a great atmosphere and friendly staff x didn't eat as wrong time of day for us but it all looked lovely coming out of kitchen x

Fantastic pub, great atmosphere, good beer, brilliant food and fast friendly service! Dog friendly too. You'll be hard pressed to find better.

I have been many times to the White Horse for meals, and it has always been a joy but on this occasion it was ruined by vaping. I did not know that the pub allowed vaping in the bar area and the smell from this particular vape made you feel ill, with the male customer blowing through from the area into the direction of the tables where food is served. A bad choice to allow vaping in the area where people can eat.

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary here on the 27/01/24, in the restaurant area with family and friends, and had a fantastic evening. The buffet we ordered excelled our expectations and was excellent. DJ entrtained us all night and the staff couldn't do enough for us. A big thank you to Gabby and all the staff. Highly recommended, and a great venue.

By far the best pub in Norfolk in our opinion fantastic beers and home brew rums and gins etc etc The food is fantastic aswell we literally love this pub. We love it so much that we have booked our wedding family meal here in may We live in horning but always come to the white horse and when we are out on our boat we stay the night on gays staith up the road and have a nice little 5 minute walk down to the pub perfect on a loverly summers evening Can’t rate it highly enough

We had the Christmas menu. We were made to feel very welcome.. The food was delicious turkey for main and Christmas pudding for dessert and a free bottle of Prosecco for early booking. Quality food and great service. Faultless!

The food and the service provided was really good. We had a party of 9 people and there were no delays. Thanks very much, it was a lovely evening.

We can unreservedly recommend this place. On a Monday lunchtime, on our last day on a break in Norfolk, our two planned hostelries failed to deliver. On our way back to North Walsham, hungry and getting late and puppy in tow, we found The White Horse on Google Maps. And how lucky we were. Everything about this place was great: staff welcome and service, prompt, delicious and well-priced food, facilities and surroundings. Thank you to all staff concerned, and when we are next in the area we shall plan a day around eating with you!

The food was “disappointing”, if there had been one issue I would not leave the review but … waited 35 minutes for Sunday roast to arrive. Warm but not hot. The pork belly skin was “chewy” definitely not crackling. The roast beef was full of sinew, low quality cut that really should have been cooked in a slow cooker. The cauliflower cheese was 75% stalk and really I should have sent it back. See my photos, judge for yourself.

The Food was not bad, but the toilets were dangerous. The floors were swimming in water, they had just been cleaned, and water was standing up to 5 millimeters deep, with no warning signs. This was in both the male and female WCs. If you continue like this someone will fall and you will have a claim against you. The service was also a little on the slow side. This is a shame, as I have many good memories of the White Horse Inn.

Food was as good as expected and the service from Annie was amazing. Will be going back again soon.

Great family and dog friendly pub. All the staff were very welcoming the food was amazing there was 8 of us the service wasn't the quickest it was very slow but the food made up for it.

Excellent ciabatta sandwiches. I had the sausage and bacon with chutney which was delicious and my partner had the southern fried chicken sandwich which she loved. My son had a child’s burger which he gave 10/10. Beautiful building and just lovely overall.

What a lovely pub, we moored our boat for free only a short walk to a lovely village. A large variety of real ale about 15 or so. I had the seabass and my partner the fish and chips both were very tasty. Staff very helpful, dog friendly fully recommend.
