Lovely little pub. The food was amazing. The portions were huge! Very friendly and helpful staff. We will definitely be back.

Lovely old pub with friendly staff and lots of memorabilia of the local area. Booked ahead and for a Sunday night was quite busy. Ordered two steak and ale pies and were accommodating in substituting the chips for mash. Really nice taste and beef was tender. Could probably have done with a few veg, peas etc but overall would recommend

Have visited on a number of times previously and today was a Mid-week visit for Lunch at this lovely country pub. An excellent choice of local ales, good service, and the food was delicious - all at a very competitive price too. Special mention for Mike the Barman who is a credit to the business and who always makes you feel welcome and valued.

We had two evening meals here whilst staying nearby at Cedar House B & B. It's over two years since our last visit and thankfully the standards of service and cuisine are as high as ever. The menu is very wide ranging, the prices are reasonable, and the service is quick, friendly and efficient. The steak and otter ale pie is still our favourite! The pub is always full of locals and visitors, and there's a good atmosphere. We recommend booking in advance. We hope we'll be able to return before too long.

Ate and drank here several times over the past week, because it was our local (we were staying in the adjoining Riverside Lodge, which is lovely). Beautiful old pub, with good food (good value too) and really friendly staff. Decent range of beers, ciders and other drinks. Lots of outside seating with a good-sized children's playground. Big car park too. Very dog friendly. Top tip when first going in - keep your eyes open for the bar queueing/one-way system - very efficient, just go to the bar from the right hand side as you go in (it'll make sense when you see it). Steak night and curry night were both great value - as is the cheese board with port.

I only wish this place was near to where I live, it’s honestly the best meal I have had in a long time, the staff are lovely and friendly and the pub is so interesting and olde worlde. One of those places that makes the simple procedure of ordering a sandwich and drink into some sort of endurance course. First try to find a clean table that is clear of used plates, then queue up at the bar. To confuse matters they have 2 menus, one for imside and another for outside, I wanted something from the outside menu so I then had to go outside to find another clean table (not easy by any means). Then you have to go back inside and queue up again. I couldn't find a clean table so I gave up. I don't know what would happen if a couple went there, one wanting something from the inside menu, the other from the outside menu. I guess they have to dine separately.

I'll keep this short and sweet. Fantastic location, interior, menu and staff. You will struggle to find a better boozer in the South West.

We stayed for two nights and found it a lovely experience all round. The staff are friendly, the place is clean, the rooms well appointed and the food is perfect - great servings and well presented. It’s a lovely spot too because it is handy for exploring some of the most beautiful countryside we have seen - and we live in Devon!

I would echo the views of a previous contributor when he states he wishes he had found this pub at the start of his holiday. My wife and I came across it by accident and were very pleased that we had done. Excellent food, service great in a cosy traditional country pub, what is there not to like?

A really nice pub with a lovely riverside garden, the White Horse is a real find. Superb food, excellent beer and friendly staff - I wish I had found it at the beginning of my holiday rather than the end. Staying in Watchet, which is a lovely little village but has no decent places to eat, the White Horse is only 5 minutes down the road and on a bus route. Very highly recommended.

A real pub, busy and friendly. We had the best fish and chips ever. Wonderful chunky chips and a huge piece of fish. It was 'fish night' £10 each. One of us had chicken pie which was apparently delicious. A good outside area and easy parking. The serving team were so helpful. Will go often.

first popped into the inn after visiting the local Priory, just a short walk along the lane. Had Lunch, very good menu and specials board. good range of beer, ciders and spirits and a real "Country Pub" feel. All the staff we spoke to were very helpful and pleasant. we got chatting to some of the locals after lunch, also very welcoming. One of our party is gluten and lactose intolerant and the owner was only too happy to discus the menu, which had quite a number of good options clearly marked. The food was very good and decent portions. We were very happy to eat here and asked about dinner on the evening, the owner said they could find us a table for 4 for that night. This was not "a line", when we arrived it was clear that it is very popular here with most tables full. Again we were not disappointed. good food and drink and very reasonably priced, add to that the excellent staff and we could see why it was popular.

We found this pub after visiting Cleeve Abbey -- sadly on the last day of our holiday - otherwise we'd have been here for meals / drinks everyday ! Lovely pub, great menu, excellent real ales, friendly / helpful staff, beer garden across the road by a river, with a large covered eating area & quite large lawn. We really look forward to visiting frequently when we're in the area again (soon) !

My wife and I stayed overnight in a most comfortable room overlooking the stream outside. The staff were excellent, dinner and breakfast high quality and the historic nature of the building impressive. Well recommended

Pretty looking pub, so I popped in while I was waiting to call in on someone locally. There was only one other customer there. However, while I was sipping my pint, the lady behind the bar was speaking with the other customer and loudly swearing at a message that she had obviously just received on her mobile phone. I felt the way she was talking in front of customers was out of order and I reckon she had been drinking. I left the rest of my pint (it wasn’t nice anyway), went to the loo (dirty) and left. My friend who I was visiting said it is not a good atmosphere in there now and doesn’t go there any more. What a shame for the locals.

An absolute gem of a pub, we stayed for 2 nights. Rooms was lovely, very clean with a view of the river. Food was delicious although portions were a bit on the large side for us, but that is not a moan. All staff were very friendly and cheerful. Couldn't recommend the White Horse enough.

After having seen the great reviews we visited as a family this evening and sadly wish we hadn’t. We were waiting over 1 hour for food, with no warning of the long wait given when we ordered nor did anyone come and apologise for the wait. Eventually 1hr15mins after we placed the order our food arrived, and sadly it wasn’t worth the wait. Clearly the kitchen was having issues this evening, and based on our experience we would not recommend.

This is a traditional pub, with a great atmosphere, super menu, a cosy log fire and lots of old style nic-nacs to look at. I had steak in ale pie. The steak was melt-in-the-mouth. Hubby had a delicious creamy fish pie from the specials board. There were several things on the menu that I would have been happy to have chosen. Staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient and other customers in the pub were friendly and chatty. We enjoyed our meals so much that we have reserved a table again for tomorrow evening.

We have been out of the area for a few months but we have to say we love coming to the Whitehorse. The staff and owner are always so friendly and polite,just how a proper English pub should be.the food was really good but on the down side,as we are both Chefs the presentation needs a little bit of work. Not everyone likes a full tin of mussy peas with fish and chips. This is only a bit of constructive criticism and it's not meant as anything else.we always recommend this establishment to visiting friends when in the area as we do like it there.Top marks to the owner and the staff at the Whitehorse Washford

Stayed for 2 nights. The staff (I presume father and son) have no sense of customer service. Not friendly on arrival. Room adequate and clean. But went out and returned at 10.10 to be told the bar was closed, no more drinks would be served and was then told I couldn’t go up the stairs in the bar to my room as the door was locked so I had to walk outside the pub to gain access to the room even though the bar still had people in it. Attitude very poor, when asked why I was just told you should have been told when you booked we close at 10.00. Well I wasn’t. What pub closes at 10.00 but still allows the locals to drink but residents not.

Paid a long overdue visit having read mentions of it in the past , had very enjoyable lunch with my daughter . We would certainly come again . The regulars obviously were enjoying themselves .

Mid-week visit for Lunch at this lovely country pub at Washford. A warm and friendly welcome from the barman (Mike), an excellent choice of local ales, good service, and the food was delicious - all at a very competitive price too. I only wish we had discovered this Gem earlier in the year as they have a lovely beer garden set next to the river - perfect for being outdoors in the Summer. Well Done! We will be back.

We had just been to cleeve abbey and saw the sign in the car park. We had spent a lot longer time in the abbey then we thought we would so thought we would give it a try. Im so pleased we didn’t drive to Dunster as the pub staff and food were lovely. I loved the quaintness of the pub and also the modern bit overlooking the river. The pub is also dog friendly so another plus for me. The steak and otter ale pie was delicious and the hubby said the same for his gammon.

We stayed one night hear and the Inn a lovely old world country pub. Friendly staff and very good breakfast and dinner. Lots of atmosphere. All rooms are upstairs and our room was at the back and very large with ensuite. Very tight stairs to access upstairs rooms. Parking available off street across the road from Inn. Highly recommended

Lovely location and does a roaring trade with locals, passing trade and tourists especially in the beer garden. The food is standard British pub food - fish and chips, gammon, steak and ale pie( very good) - all done well all of the time. Landlord is very chatty and straightforward - like the pub - good honest british fayre.

This is such an impressive pub, located in both sides of the River Washford, pub on one side and gardens with spacious 6-table gazebo on the other. Car park and gazebo are easily wheelchair accessible, which was important with Mother in Law. Weather beautiful when we visited in August, but gazebo would be suitable even in more inclement weather. Landlord, landlady and staff all super-welcoming, felt very much ‘at home’ here. Outside menu is simpler then that available in the dining room, but the traditional basket meals were excellent, not to mention the desserts and best cheeseboard we’ve had in a long time. We called in thinking it looked like a nice place for lunch. Barman greeted us with "yes" we asked to order drinks, then asked if we could sit down - were told "sit there" and a table was pointed at. We sat down and looked at the menu - looked nice but as we were deciding what to order the Barman could be heard moaning to the "locals" drinking in the bar about how unhappy he was with so many visitors to the area, we went on and on about it- thought locals did not really respond to him. We started to feel rather uncomfortable and unwelcome, so quickly finished our drinks and left, found another lovely friendly pub locally and enjoyed a very good lunch. Will nor be returning or recommending.

A great Inn with an amazing garden which also served food and drinks. We ate inside having booked and it was very busy. The English style menu had good choices and the food was excellent and arrived very promptly. The staff were very helpful and friendly too. There is limited parking at the Inn, but further up the lane is their large car park, so plenty of parking.

We were a large party of 14 visiting in August 2021 and overall the quality of the food was decent thought two people who both ordered the steak weren't particularly keen on the quality of the meal citing the meat as gristly. My food was decent and aside from the two steak orders the food was generally well received and all almost all of us enjoyed our food. The service was fantastic and we cannot fault the friendliness and welcome of the staff at all - the place gets 5 stars for service. We'd return again. Shame it was raining so heavily as the beer garden and play area for the kids looked fantastic but we didn't get to enjoy it owing to the torrential weather!

This was a great evening at the pub with my family. My parents had a burger each and I had fish. Absolutely fab burger!! So tasty. Great service from a man who worked behind the bar. He was up for a laugh and easy to chat with. Would definitely recommend to others!!
