We had a great lunch here. The atmosphere and service was friendly, welcoming and relaxing. The local beer was outstanding and the food very nicely cooked, delicious and good value. There were plenty of options of where to sit and our dog was also made to feel at home. Shame we were driving or we would happily whiled away the hours here forgetting time and troubles! Hope to return again soon.

We had wonderful friendly stay at this fab village pub.. We have been using the rooms and dining room for several years now and it never disappoints.. Jack and Hannah run a great pub/hotel and there is a great choice of ales (some brewed on the premises).. Food is beautifully cooked and plentiful.. On this recent trip two members of staff made our trip memorable.. Phili has been there for several years and is always polite, friendly and professional.. Attentive and hard working.. As was Emma who did an equally great job, when it was a busy period just before 6.30pm.. We stayed for two nights..

Following our last visit and review on 7 June 2022, we returned to this wonderful locals' 16th century village pub and brewery. On this occasion we stayed in the accommodation above to break our journey home. See separate review for accommodation and breakfast. For dinner an excellent home made steak and kidney pud from the reassuringly short menu. Make sure you pre order to ensure it's available! All washed down with a couple of pints if home brewed and powerful real ales. 5.9% Citadel from the pump and a bottle of 7.5% Unk IPA. Crew friendly. Doggy friendly. Lovely! What's not to like? Table in the busy and atmospheric bar area, rather than the more formal restaurant, always our preference. Very reasonable prices. This pub is featured in the main section of the Good Pub Guide and the Good Beer Guide. 🇬🇧🇳🇿

On a monthly basis a friend and I meet up, have a meal and catch-up. For,June we went to the White Horse Inn, from booking a table, in advance, to the warm friendly greeting when we arrived, it was a great experience We were asking if we wanted drinks and ordered, then shown to our table. The small restaurant area had a few other diners and we were quickly given the menus and shown the specials board. We ordered starters and main meals and the starters arrived quickly and piping hot, similarly, after finishing our starters the main meal arrived promptly, but not too quickly. The food was excellent, and the same for the service, the staff were attentive, but no over powering Overall it was a great night, good locally sourced food, the right level of service and a thoroughly enjoyable evening in a warm and friendly pub

We arrived promptly at 1.30 and were sat in the window of the adjacent bar which was very nice except that we were forgotten/ignored.Great pubby friendly atmosphere. It was fortunate that we were with friends and had lots of catching up to do as we finally left at approx 3.45pm because of the slow, virtually non existent service. We only had two courses. At every stage , apart from the first drinks order at bar, I had to get up and find someone. eg We are ready to order now please. We would like more drinks please. Please could we see the dessert menu. We are ready to order the desserts. And then after a 40 mins wait. We would like our desserts please. The other bar was lively and buzzing with people. Ours gradually became empty. The food was excellent and we would visit again if the slow service could be addressed. I did ask at one point if it was a carvery and we were meant to help ourselves, but apparently not.

Booked 2 rooms here, as they were holding the wake after family funeral. Staff were very friendly. Traditional style pub. We all packed the place. The buffet had a mixed choice of meat, vegetarian and vegan, so I was thrilled to have vegan chocolate cake! As allergic to cow's milk I rarely have cake! The food was excellent. The rooms were away from the bar in the building next door. Beautifully presented with very comfortable beds. The shower room was very good. Definitely recommend! Cooked breakfast the following morning was delicious. There was a choice of cereals etc and I was able to have a coffee with oat milk.

Very disappointed with our visit here. We had rang up and booked a table, explaining we had a baby with us. When we arrived the welcome was very frosty and we were told to just go to the garden even though we had booked. He then asked if we had left a name and hastily told us where we were sat. We had to ask for menus as we hadn't been provided with any. We were then informed they had no high chair,so there was no way I could eat a hot meal with a 9 month old on my lap, even though we told them we had a baby with us. Our drinks came after about 20 minutes- the lemonade myself and our eldest son ordered was completely flat and undrinkable. It tasted like water. Needless to say we left. We had explained to the young waiter why we were leaving-as we walked out the door we heard the man behind the bar ask him if everything was ok with us, to which he told him yes. One very hungry and disappointed family,we will not be recommending or returning.

Rang up to book a table, it was super easy! We all had a starter, 2 chicken strips, on deep fried Brie and I had the king prawns which I have to say were so fresh and very tasty!!! Then for mains 3 of us had a fillet and one had a vegan burger... I have to say the fillet was cooked perfectly, I could’ve cut it with a spoon and was so so so fresh and tasty, hands down one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten, and the homemade double fried chips were to die for!!! We picked this pub for an evening meal whilst in Shropshire. It's nestled in the heart of Clun and is a delightful pub.Our group of 4 had a mix of food - fish and chips, burgers, pie - and there was certainly a lot of it! The chips were a bit soggy, and service was quite slow, but that's most likely because they were packed and rushed off their feet with EOHO diners! All in all it was a pleasant evening with good pub grub.

On a walking trip with a friend, we diverted off Offas Dyke to Clun for an overnight stay and booked ahead at the White Horse Inn. After a challenging day of walking thorough stunning scenery, albeit with the ground heavily waterlogged, the warm welcome of the White Horse bar, staff and log burner was perfect. We had several beers, (excellent real ales and the Guinness was really well kept!), the food was also excellent. The liver and bacon and the vegetarian curry were well prepared and presented and absolutely delicious. The rooms were very comfortable and perfect for the use of walkers or weekend breakers. It was clear from the moment we arrived, to the moment we left that Hannah, Jack and colleagues work very hard to create a really welcoming environment whether you be an attendee of the bar, restaurant or hotel. They have very high standards for quality and cleanliness and the drinks, food and hotel rooms were very good value.Looking to bring my family here soon for a weekend stopover.

If you’d like the real life experience of what it must be like to walk into Royston Vasey’s Local Shop, then this is for you, otherwise steer very very clear. We eat in country pubs very regularly, at least twice per week on family outings and this was categorically the most uncomfortable and unwelcome we have ever felt. From the moment we entered we were stared at by not only the locals but also some of the members of staff. When the silence finally did subside we had to listen to a middle aged drunk local couple talk about how our children shouldn’t be in a pub; as they and others continued to stare incessantly. The silence was also broken up by one of the barmaids recounting the injustice of being kept in a police station for over 20 hours when she had been told it would only be 2.We parked outside and upon leaving the two tables of local people stopped talking to stare at us as we loaded up, the one blocking our car door with their stool also very helpfully refused to move.We had roast dinners which were average, everything over cooked but quite tasty and fine for the price. The only very positive point was the demeanour of the young barman who was a gentleman; his most impressive display was remaining courteous when another local and seemingly aspiring sommelier insisted upon discussing the finer points of the house red.

Our first visit to the area, staying for a few days in a farm at Clunton, two miles from Clun. The pub in Clunton, a short walk from our accommodation, wasn't open and our host recommended The White Horse for dinner. We were delighted with what we found there. A buzzy bar area, full of locals and a few visitors, is welcoming, the staff are friendly and efficient and there is a great range of cask ales (many brewed on the premises) many gins and everything else you might expect. The food on offer is pub grub but of a rather superior kind, not in any way pretentious but tasty, plentiful and served by as charming a group of young ladies as you will find anywhere. The standard menu is complemented by an interesting "specials" board including (on our visit) such things as a good beef bourguignone and a potted boar starter. The wine list isn't extensive but offers drinkable stuff at reasonable prices. We liked it so much we returned the next evening for another helping (including an excellent steak, cooked exactly as ordered and a very nice steak & ale pie) and were not disappointed. The chips are to die for. The only (minor) negatives were the omnipresent flashing fairy lights (switched off on request) and dogs being allowed in the dining room - on our second visit we encountered a rather smelly example, a bit off-putting. Nothing against dogs, they should be welcome in pub bars - but arguably not where people are eating. This is the only reason I didn't award five stars to this excellent establishment, I really wish it were closer to home. Oh, and Clun village itself is interesting and quite delightful.....

We called in for dinner and a pint shortly after our arrival in Clun at the start of a walking holiday. This pub is attractive and, by good fortune, we had booked in advance because we arrived to find that the pub was hosting a weekend gin festival that had attracted quite a lot of people so it was both busy and noisy. I was looking for a place to eat and The White Horse is the go to place in Clun. Unfortunately, food was not on offer at 16:50 as they stop serving at 15:00 and start again at 18:00. The reviews on TripAdvisor suggest food is good!I did stop for a pint and there was plenty to choose from, the usual lager and cream-flow nonsense on tap, but more pleasing to the eye was local ale from the Clun Brewery (5 options if I recall) and many choices in the fridge too which was well stocked (always a good sign). I tried the local summer ale at 3.4% which would make a good session ale. Not the best beer I have ever tried and lacked both a head and lace; but I've had worse. The staff and local customer base were friendly and all were happy to offer advice on where to get food. It's this positive atmosphere that sold me the positive review.

Third time for me eating here. As ever, excellent food and staff (nice work, Ashe) plus extra custard! Can't ask for anything more! Thoroughly recommended.

This is our second visit and it was just as good as the first - pleasant accommodation, great dining, lovely drinking, excellent ambience in a well placed and delightful rural retreat. One feels more than welcome, more like old friends...did we mention that Lola, our spaniel, loves the place too? See you all again

Spent an amazing 5 days in this beautiful village, staying at The White Horse Inn. The owner with his wife and family run an amazing pub, B&B and restaurant. The food was superb, the room was clean and the service impeccable. Cannot not recommend it more highly

Called in here by chance with the rest of our cycling group heading to John O'Groats.Food did not take long to come, was served in the beer garden and was very nice and not all that expensive.No-one had a problem with their meals and everyone enjoyed it.Can't really be any fairer than that

Having just got home I felt I should compliment the cooking and service at this little gem of a rural pub. My wife and I were not after "gastro" but we really wanted a great meal and this was it. Super fried duck with a lovely sauce and perfectly cooked vegetables for me. My wife was wowed by the tastes in the glazed salmon on crunchy salad. To top this off she had their rasberry cheesecake, which she described as light, fluffy and gorgeous. I had a couple of scoops of their ice creams - salted toffee and vanilla. With a couple of glasses their house wine, the whole experience was faultless. The dining room was also packed and tables were eagerly snapped up when people left. Thanks to all the staff for our evening. And... all for well under £40!

We have just stayed in beautiful Clun over bank holiday having researched the many walks and local ales. I was bowled over by the friendliness of the staff and locals. Jack the landlord was a lovely man indeed. The beer from their own microbrewery was superb, the straw coloured pale ale was refreshing after a long walk and the Citadel also straw coloured, was well balanced and very moorish.......but stronger - a naughty beer . They had live music on Friday night and the atmosphere was buzzing.Didn't get to eat here unfortunately but reviews from our cottage were excellent.

Stopped for two nights as a single walker. A fantastic packed lunch provided in lieu of breakfast and ready the night before so I could be on the hills by 6am.The room was clean and well stocked with a superb hospitality tray. Even though my room was over the bar there was barely any noticeable noise each evening. The most noticeable point however that the staff all appeared to be enjoying their jobs. Philli and the other lady couldn't have been more helpful and this was enhanced by the quality of the food.Thoroughly recommended. I hope that my final group of Shropshire hills will also be attempted from there. Many thanks to all the staff.

This charming pub was very busy, and we had to wait for a table - worth waiting though. Service was excellent and friendly. The beer produced in their own brewery is well worth trying.

Wot's cooking is a great place to sit in and get a nice fish and chips. Located in the heart of oswestry. It's located near a post office and even a betting shop, it has plenty around it. The staff are friendly and they are really generous with portions. What's cooking deserves to be on a seaside location really, but it serves well in oswestry. It's cozy in there too, there's been a few times where I've had a meal sitting in there as its been raining outside. So if your in oswestry and fancy some food, get yourself some chips from wot's cooking and enjoy their service!

Popped in on a random Tuesday lunchtime the place was empty but that didn't put us off the service was very good, food excellent selection of drinks was spot on and the main reason we went is how dog friendly they are so we could take our little pooch with us. Would definitely visit again
