The White Horse at Woolley Moor in North East Derbyshire

Called in for a quick drink on our way home after hearing wonderful reviews and it absolutely didn’t disappoint!! A real hidden gem! £15 for a medium red wine, a pint of Bakewells best and a appletize. I think that’s pretty decent. It was warm, welcoming and cosy by the log burner. We could have stayed all day! Even though we didn’t eat, the food smelt amazing and we will certainly be sharing a family Sunday lunch here very soon!! 10/10 to the staff for making us feel so welcome!! Thank you 🩷

First of all 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Take a bow and give yourselves a massive pat on the back to the whole team. It is very rare I give a shout out to a small pub in the middle of know where that is producing such high quality food and of such a high standard. For lunch we were late but they went above and beyond and knocked up a fish finger sandwich and a chicken club with chips on sourdough. It sounds simply but it was amazing especially the bread, so feed that back to the bread supplier. Evening meal was beetroot tart for the guest and then the king prawn for me. Great to eat the line removed from the prawns, so many 5 star restaurants fail in this but this little pub exceeded expectations. Main was beef for the guest and monk fish for me again both delicious and pudding was carrot which again was great. Breakfast was quality produce and cooked fresh, again very well received. If you have not been, then I suggest you book in asap as this place if 5 stars, no sorry 6 stars in the food and service delivery. What a wonderful little pub that needs to be visited by anyone passing. Overall well done to all, even the guy in pot wash. 6 stars out of 5 from me 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Went for our wedding anniversary. It was ok, seemed a little pricey for the food, quantity and service. We expected a little more for the money really.

The room was as good as it looks in the photos. Well insulated, clean, good shower over the bath in our room. Ate in the restaurant, pretty good. Staff very friendly and helpful. We will be back.

Came here for a nice little date night, been 4 times total, first for Sunday lunches which I remember being good but pricey. Last time I came for dinner and had Belly pork - 2 pieces were obviously reheated and the last of 3 pieces was clearly fresher. We went last night and I risked the belly pork - It wasn't good; bearly chewable and was super difficult to get through with a knife. Chicken my partner ordered was cooked really well and was juicy. Everything was quite bland, though. Service felt pressured, disjointed and impatient.

Excellent accommodation in a fabulous location. The rooms were perfect with all the needs of the guest taken into account. Private terrace offering wonderful views. The staff were very friendly and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast and dinner were exceptionally good.

My wife and I have just returned from our third stay in the White Horse at Woolley Moor and it never ceases to impress. The rooms are some of the best we have stayed in, they are very clean and spacious with great views across the Derbyshire countryside. In the resturant the food is excellent with a very varied menu all served nice and hot. The staff are all very pleasant keen to chat and make your visit all the more enjoyable. We look forward to more visits to The White Horse at Woolley Moor and long may it continue. Jack and Jane.

Lovely old pub/restaurant with large, modern rooms in two adjacent buildings. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Rooms also really good and silent for light sleepers.

The suite accommodation was superb. Modern high quality luxury furniture, very spacious, well beautiful views and setting - exactly as shown in the photos. The bar/restaurant was very cosy and comfortable and the food - dinners and breakfasts were outstanding. Everything cooked perfectly with only the best ingredients used. We had Sunday dinner at the pub and it was faultless, everything hot and delicious even right at the end of service. The staff were kind and attentive. The garden was peaceful and beautiful. Deserts were also very tasty. Roads nearby are quite narrow. Overall a brilliant place to have a Sunday dinner.

Never been before but will go again. The food is excellent, restaurant quality beautifully cooked and presented. Not huge portions but wonderful flavours. We had the sea bass and the pork belly. The ambience is very pleasant and the service was very good.

Stayed here for one night and wished I could stay longer. The rooms are huge with views of the rolling hills with sheep bleating. The food is amazing so well worth the price. Best of all for me, the staff are so nice and welcoming.

We are visiting The White Horse for the second time today and staying overnight. It's a must for a quiet secluded location, wonderful food and lovely service. Highly recommend. ❤️

Superbly quiet, extremely comfortable and huge rooms. Large carpark and restaurant on site. Staff were very friendly and the food excellent - not often I enjoy a business trip but this was very relaxing. Will certainly stay again next time I'm in the area.

Ate here for dinner. Service was great. Food was ok, but pretentious. A starter of pork scratchings (6 pieces) for about £6.00 was a bit pricey. Mains - chicken was overcooked and rubbery. Vegetables and sauce were delicious. Fish & chips - battered fish looked fab( & large) but was somewhat bland. But if you're staying here, then is handy to eat (& drink alcohol!) here without having to drive.

The food was delicious. My partner had Belly pork which was cooked to perfection and the apple sauce and jus made it extremely tasty. We both had desserts which were beautifully presented and the best desserts I've had in the UK for a while. Service was on point and very friendly. Over all atmosphere was very relaxed. Great views from the beer garden.

Really spot on evening. The food was sbsolutely delicious. Dave, Melanie and the staff really looked after us. The surrounding are is soectacular which makes a journey there all part of a super dining experience.

We had a luxury room with a super king size bed. We loved the space available to us - the sofa and armchair were particularly good for the evening after our meal, enabling us to read, chat, watch TV without getting sore backs. The bathroom was spacious and extremely clean with an excellent shower. The view from the panoramic window was really lovely, especially when the sun came out! The breakfasts were generous and great quality. The fresh fruit salad was fresh indeed, no tinned fruit. We also enjoyed two well cooked and very tasty evening meals as well. The service is friendly, efficient but not intrusive. Overall, a really good place to stay.

Warmly welcomed, log burning fire lit, spotlessly clean, interior is a little bland , definitely could be made to look better. Fabulous staff , friendly, helpful and attentive. Our Food was absolutely delicious we ordered from their Sunday menu and had three courses , presentation was excellent, flavours and taste were Devine, we will definitely be back! Thank you so much.

We live locally (Matlock) and we've probably been here 15 times over the last 5 years or so, and we love it. The food and service are always excellent. Sunday lunch is a favourite of ours, and this time we both had the beef. Offered 'pink' or 'well done' we both chose pink and it was superb. The meat was tender and delicious, the vegetables were perfectly cooked (not overdone!) and everything exceeded our expectations. For us, the service is consistently good and the staff have obviously been well trained. Quantities were generous and we were too full for desert. Beer was good too. The menu was interesting and if we were ever to stay here I am sure you could eat here for quite a few nights without struggling with the menu choice. This is a gem and the owners should be proud of what they have achieved and the service they provide. We will return.

Rang today for a gift voucher over the phone as I couldn’t find a way of placing online. I was asked when I would like the gift voucher and all be it late I replied that I would like it tomorrow if possible. I was rudely huffed at and told to wait a minute. If that’s your customer service you can keep your gift voucher and I’ll take my hard earned money elsewhere. I’m sure my £100 will be better received elsewhere. So rude.

Well where to start The White Horse is amazing the rooms are stunning with stunning views spotlessly clean so comfortable and spacious the food was outstanding .We left this morning after waking to thick snow Dave the landlord went above and beyond to help get my car out and even drove us to the clear roads to keep us safe Dave your amazing.This place is worth every penny and we cannot wait to return .

Booked a table over the answer machine, turned up to be told that we could not have a table as only one chef on duty. Our message on the answer machine left around 1.00, we were told, had not been listened to. There were 2 couples in the restaurant! Obviously our custom wasn't wanted.

Wow. Food is incredible, ate from the specials board and was not disappointed. Lovely setting too. Had the Halibut goujons with curried prawns to start and the sea bass for main. Nice selection of ales at the bar - highly recommend.

We have made several visits over last few years. Nothing changes, quality accommodation, quality food and very warm welcome.

What a great meal. Nothing but positives based on our experience. You can't compare the food offering to pub grub, way above that and personally, I think reasonably priced. We both had Crostini to start and Lamb for main. Then we shared a Rhubarb and custard Panna cotta and a Chilled Chocolate fondant. As a Coeliac, it was wonderful to have a separate Gluten Free menu rather than just a list of allergens. Our hosts and the staff were all knowledgeable around Coeliac requirements and were so friendly and helpful. Locally sourced fresh produce wherever possible makes all the difference in quality as well as knowing all the ingredients when you have to deal with different dietary requirements. Just go, you won't regret it!

I have nothing but praise. My first visit and it won’t be my last. Lovely location, lovely clean fresh interior and lovely food. My dietary requirement was handled amazingly well and the staff were friendly and attentive in a good way. All in all highly recommended

We just went for a meal, but the food was a little disappointing - hard peas, slightly soggy chips, that kind of thing. The desserts were pretty good though. The interior of the part we were seated in was a little dated and lacking in atmosphere. The location and views are great however. The last time I visited 4 years ago I gave it four stars, and nothing much has changed in four years, but I guess we might have caught the chef on a bad day.

This wasn’t our first visit and definitely won’t be the last. The service is very friendly and quick and the food freshly cooked, well presented and delicious. The menu has a wide choice which should appeal to all palates & it was surprising to see four or five fish dishes too. The dressed crab starter & tempura monkfish were fab! Not to be forgotten is the setting, set in beautiful countryside which can be seen from some of the tables, hopefully the weather will be nice enough to sit outside next time.

This restaurant is without a doubt one of the best I have been to in Derbyshire. The food you receive is fully deservant of its AA Rosette declaration, & I am almost certain this restaurant won't be to far away from being featured on the Michelin Guide. The monkfish starter was flawless. The flavours within cannot be explained & I would highly suggest you try this for yourself! The beef & chicken roast dinners were perfect. The meat was cooked to perfection, with the dish as a whole packed full of flavours! Whatever the occasion may be for your visit; you will not be disappointed.

Drove in to a great size car park which is on two levels, a really warm welcoming entrance, we were met by a wonderful warm and friendly staff member and shown to our table which was tucked away in the snug, staff were very quick to take our drinks order and I’ve got to say the drinks menu was very extensive and the staff member taking the drinks order was very knowledgeable on what drinks were available, the food was ordered which included starters and main courses, the food arrived in good time we weren’t disappointed it, the quality, temperature, amount was fantastic, the staff were always on hand to make sure we were happy, the deserts were ordered and again the quality was fantastic, I would highly recommend visiting the White Horse at Woolley Moor, but make sure you book as it does get very busy…

I visited for a family meal and they were very flexible to my dietary restrictions without making me feel like a burden and I had the most delicious meal that I could eat with none of the ingredients I have to avoid. The gluten and dairy free lemon rice pudding is absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend for those on gluten free, dairy free or low fodmap! They don't shout enough about how flexible they are on the menu, but trust me it's great food!!

We’ve just had a lovely meal at the white horse. The food was excellent no complaints on that score but! When the bill was presented to us it seemed to be a bit on the cheap side, on adding it up in my head it was £32 less than it should have been. I went to the bar and told the landlord to check the adding up which he did and confirm that I was right. I am a business man and thought i was doing the right thing but after his reaction of “well mistakes happen” and barely a thank you I will think twice before doing it again

Stayed here late Feb 2022, our second visit. Rooms so beautifully done and pristine. Huge amount of space, with stunning views. Had 2 delicious breakfasts with great options. All freshly cooked. Two evening meals were heavenly, hard to beat in the UK and elsewhere. This is a great place with numerous walks locally and further a field plus Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall about 20 mins away. If you read this and decide to book if you could avoid booking the same time as us as we love it here and will be going back again and again. Staff were so nice all weekend and also before we arrived when they resolved some booking issues that were all my fault.

Our party of twelve stayed at the White Horse for New Year. We cannot it praise it enough. The business is owner run and it shows. Our rooms were fantastic and spotlessly clean, extremely spacious with all amenities. The food was worthy of a Michelin star, absolutely wonderful .with first class service. The staff were all efficient, attentive and most pleasant. We would like to thank David, his wife and the whole team for making it a memorable stay. Will definitely visit again

Stayed at Perkins cottage in Woolley moor, walked to the White House for a meal, even though they were busy, food and service was excellent and staff outstanding

We've been trying to get in her for a few months and now we've eaten here we can see why it gets busy. It's a nice place away from the hustle and bustle, the food is fantastic, I had the gammon which is standard in many places but it was succulent, the chips were as good as any. My partner had the chicken which she loved this with perfectly cooked greens. Moving on to the deserts I hade lemon meringue which was more lemon creme brulee with basil sorbet, I've never heard of basil sorbet but my word was it beautiful. My partner polished off the Bakewell bread an butter pudding in no time, saying how gorgeous it was. We won't wait long to come back. Ps the staff were perfect, not in your face but attentive and pleasant. Highly recommended.
