The White Horse in Daventry

Food looks like it is just thrown on the plate ! The chips are dry and tastless. The fish was so greasy, really not worth going back. It reminds me of a truck stop and certainly not a restaurant.

I have eaten in, good service, the food spot on, the price very acceptable. Have often phoned, ordered, and collected to eat at home, always cooked fresh and very hot after a 4-mile journey. The front garden needs a good tidy-up to look like their cover picture

Nice place for home made ficha and chips, with different options in a tradicional way. Very nice people and atmosphere!

We had a great evening there with some lovely food and a good pint. The landlady was very chatty and nothing was too much trouble for her. We were made to feel very welcome.

Great village pub and food menu with extensive choices. Some dishes with a Chinese twist showing the influence of the publicans. Very charming and friendly staff and the landlady thoroughly entertained us with sparkling conversation. We were there late afternoon and had drinks and an early supper. I am sure the atmosphere would have been even better as the evening set in.

Called in for a Saturday evening pint, this place seriously lacks TLC... When I think about this pub, it makes me frown (which is quite something after all the botox).

We found this pub one Sunday while traveling back home from Croydon to Tamworth, I phoned the pub to see what time they finished serving Sunday lunch, she asked what time we were looking at I said half hour. She said that'd fine. When we got there around 4:40 there were no diners, we ordered drinks, told her we'd phoned and she gave us menus. They had finished serving food at 4. I had lamb and gammon and we had a veggie option. The food came in 20 mins, with fresh veg, it was hot with tasty gravy and a veggie gravy. Even though they had closed they looked after us with no hint of annoyance. Obviously we were the only people eating so 1 star for atmosphere, but there were people enjoying a drink at the bar watching grand Prix. We will go back there, my partner wants to try the fish and chips. Well done to bar and kitchen staff. Thanks we've found a new stop off place on a long journey.

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch there yesterday. The food was lovely and vegetarians were well catered for. The service was very good and the prices are very reasonable. Becky was so helpful and friendly, coming out of the pub to show us the way to the open garden.

This is a lovely village pub that also boasts a good restaurant and is also the village Fish & Chip shop. I've tried the fish and chips several times, very tasty and I've also had a Sunday Roast which couldn't be faulted. If you know where it is or live local (or not) try this pub out. The staff are friendly and access into the pub looks ok for all. On my next visit I will check out the restrooms but my guess is they will be just fine

Old fashioned pub with no airs and graces. Fantastic Sunday roast dinner followed by sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Highly recommended.

Excellent so nice to have piping hot food.

Pretty drab, no character, I guess it's for the villgers. Guy behind the bar was quite curt, the lady that took over was more pleasant. Only had a drink and sat outside at the front. The pub is very scruffy inside and out, its a shame a bit of sprucing would make it so much more welcoming.

Fabulous fish & chips. Friend is Celiac and they cooked his food separately. Now when we walk together it's his favourite place.

Typical village pub. Something worth showing foreign visitors how local English pub looks like. Offers Sunday carvery meals. Also operates fish&chips shop open daily from late afternoon till late.

The fish and chips were amazing

Beautiful food and a very comfortable pub in which to eat it. The Haggis was lovely, and whilst I worried that the deep fried chocolate would be too sickly to finish as a dessert, I was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't.

Excellent service, friendly staff and amazing food. Would recommend to anyone. Well done all.

Really lovely pub that is connected to a fish and chips shop! We had their fish and chips and they were the best we have ever eaten - honestly delicious and worth checking out. Also nice to be able to sit down in a pub and have them served fresh, alongside a pint! The only thing I would say is that the pub is looking very tired and could definitely do with a refresh!

Beautiful place surrounded by flowers, has the option of takeaway or sit in restaurant. We chose to it inside. We had a lovely chat with the owners who very very kind. Food is lovely and the service was great. Great little place!

We have been going to this place for dinner in the pub and also having take away fish and chips for three years now (covid permitting) The service is always friendly, the beer always good. The quality of fish and chips, is in our opinion the best in the area of Daventry/Weedon and Northampton (tho we haven't sampled all of northampton. Prices are average compared to other chippys and the quality never changes from being the best Not too be missed imho

Who wants motorway services when you can take a short detour for fabulous food and a nice pint. Fish batter was really crispy and they do small/regular/large fish to suit any appetite. The regular haddock (you can choose skin off or on) with chips and mushy peas was the perfect size for lunch. We will be back!!!😀

Nice friendly place good selection of ales but I Found it was Trifle expensive

With a warm pub a warm greeting from the staff great fish and chips from the chipshop attached and run by the pub and a good menu to choose from and a good selection of beer. It's the village pub of old we all remember and miss.

Went there and it was closed 😢 but when it is open its a good place, the chippy is decent too!

Less of a pub more of a chip shop. Lacking in real pub atmosphere. Tim Taylors sign outside, no sign of the beer inside. Won't be coming back.

Very good, Visted with both my perants we all had different fish meals and they were all cooked perfectly, great table service ,our waitress was so professional and friendly you couldn't get any better service, I love the fact you can eat hot fresh fish and chips sitting in a restaurant cooked only a few metres aways, can't wait to go back . We visited here as a group of 5 people for a midweek evening meal. The pub has a fish and chip shop attached but the menu is more diverse than simply chip shop fare. The pub is dog friendly and has outside seating The owners were extremely friendly and the food was delicious.

Finally we were able to get back and have a Sunday Lunch. Lovely traditional pub with log fire. What more could you ask for. As usual lunch was hot, tasty and plenty of it. Everything is cooked to perfection. No need to say anything else except go and try it. You will not be disappointed.

Service was very slow. 2 mains were 5 mins after others. Slow clearing the table and getting desert. Inside is dated and like a working men’s club. Food was average, veg could have been hotter. Served on cold plates. Nobody asked it everything was ok with our meal. Looks nice from the road and nice sitting out front watching the world go by. We also had take away fish & chips (not the same day). They were again average.

First time to this pub, travelled all the way from Newark, such a lovely venue, drink and food. We’d definitely come back again.

Best fish and chips in the area ! We have moved to the area and have tried all the local chip shops and been disappointed . However we were advised to try the white horse. And boy were we impressed. The fact we had to wait whilst they were cooked was a good sign. The chips were awesome and the batter light fluffy yet incredibly tasty. We now have a favourite chippy !

What an amazing experience, so unusual to have such a wide choice of freshly cooked food including truly delicious fish and chips from their own chippy. Becky and her family were so welcoming and within five minutes we felt like old friends. We would definitely recommend The White Horse and have already made a reservation for our next visit.

A family visit to the pub, having heard good reports about the food, and none of us were disappointed!! Great staff, who couldn’t do enough for us, served big portions of piping hot food and a lovely pint of bitter! If you ever visit this place, have the fish and chips!! Freshly cooked fish in a wonderful batter, and homemade chips.....none out of the six of us could fault the food at all! Well done to all the staff, Thank you!! We’ll be back!

Really good fish and chips. Fish cooked to order. They were really good and changed the oil before cooking my son's chips as he has a nut allergy.

Popped in decided to stay and have fish and chips. We certainly weren’t disappointed they were absolutely lovely. The best iv ever had in the county. I come from up North and we really do have great fish and chips however this place is just as good. Don’t be put off by the decor etc because it’s well worth a visit.

Called in for the first time today after driving past on many occasions . My wife and I had excellent freshly cooked rock eel and chips and a decent pint of beer. Based on first impressions I think we'll be calling in again.

If I live to be a 100 don’t think I will ever visit a public house like this. Situated in the lovely village of Norton their is this ascetically pleasing pub. Or so it looks. When you move inside it’s like time stood still and there is a pub run by a Chinese family. Very friendly, with some tables selling mainly what you would find in a fish & chip shop.Food is good, service is good but something just doesn’t fit. Perhaps the interior wasn’t quiet what I was expecting and the dining area certainly more like a cafe.Very very friendly with a warm welcome and a nice local.Worth a visit!

This pub is a little gem, the Sunday roast is a marvel, so many freshly cooked vegetables, and at a great price. We take all our visitors here for a treat!

This was a very enjoyable night, delicious food and drinks at reasonable prices served by very efficient and friendly staff. It has to be the best place for miles around for its fish and chips as well as the other food served. I would highly recommend this place and visit often.

This pub plus chippy is a hidden gem. Very friendly Chinese owners certainly give you a warm welcome. The beer although a limited choice is good. The food that I had (steak) was excellent. Be aware of limited car park space at the rear of the building. There's a seperate dining room for busy periods. Overall I would certainly visit again. From captain quick.

I Popped into the pub for a well earned drink after finishing my charity bike ride. Inside was cosy and very friendly and I was made welcome. The menu was v aried and reasonably priced. I shall come back again for something to eat at a later date.

We called into this pub on the way back from a funeral and had a very nice meal there. The food is not fancy but it's well cooked and reasonably priced. The hosts are very friendly and the service was good. Beautiful flowers on the outside of the pub.

A friendly and relaxed pub with good food and a fish and chip shop attached.

This pub has it's own chippy on the side. The quality was OK with the ususl menu and a couple of Chinese additions like spring rolls. The pub was quiet on a Saturday night, with one room closed & in darkness. Hence the place didn't have much atmosphere. The Landlady is Chinese, which you rarely see and so are the female staff in the chippy. The male Chef is English. I wasn't impressed with his hygeine standards (seen putting fingers in his mouth a lot), so I don't think I would dine in the pub. There are "no dog signs" on the front and rear door, the latter to the room that was closed, but the locals told me it is OK to take them into the bar area. There was one real ale available, which apparently changes. During my visit it was Hopback Sunmer Lightning, which was served in good condition. It is sad to see a village pub so poorly supported. Hopefully having the chippy will help the pub to survive. I was just passing through Norton for the first time and decided to try the chippy and pub afterwards.
