The landlord is unnecessarily confrontational. Odd to see him driving away business when it seemed so empty.

We went for lunch and the food was a lovely surprise. All was delicious, the service was excellent and the price very reasonable. The pub is cosy and quirky. Definitely a very good experience!

Extremely friendly staff, delicious food. It is a lovely little pub and everyone was very patient and kind to the confused Americans and both staff and patrons offered us good tips for while we're visiting the area. The meals we ordered were very tasty and they were kind enough to allow us to make a special order on one and it was perfect! Free on street parking was a perk and there didn't seem to be any trouble with getting a spot.

Stopped off, unplanned, during a rotten wintery bike ride. Couldn't have made a better decision. They fired up the coffee machine, cooked up a batch of fried egg sarnies and made us feel very welcome and warm despite the damp, stinking condition of our lycra. We'll be back.

Lovely pub lunch, very good brownies for dessert and excellent coffee. The service was great and we were given a nice warm room on a cold day.

We are locals that often pop into our village pub and I have to say the staff and landlord are always welcoming and friendly. We took some family members that were visiting for-drinks and dinner. The food was excellent, good size portions to the point I had to take my dessert home. The following day we went for a lovely dog walk and decided to return to try the breakfast (Sunday) I had the American flatbread which was absolutely delicious. My husband said the coffee was excellent (he is fussy about his coffee) We would certainly recommend this pub for drinks or an evening out with family and friends

What an awful experience! Defiantly will not be recommending nor will we ever go back! All started well being served by lovely young lady who attended to our needs Until the food came out… after eating 1/4 of the greasy bland burger I couldn’t stomach another mouthful and decided I would mention I’m not happy with the meal when she came to ask how the food was… that never happened and in the mean time I had to change my baby.. plates were cleared when I came back and when we were asked if we wanted pudding I mentioned then that I was not happy with the food and as she could appreciate I didn’t eat hardly any of it but I was willing to pay half. The chef then came out with attitude asking what was wrong and proceeded to say it wasn’t fair not to pay for all the food, I decided it was not worth talking to him any further after his snappy ness and attitude it’s no wonder why the pubs so empty if that’s his attitude!! seen as we were only table in you would have thought he would listen to complaint and take on board what we had to say but he couldn’t care less!! I thought about posting this yesterday after it happened but we all have bad days and this could have just been for the chef but after me and a family member who both had the burger ended up with bad tummy’s it’s only fair I share this it’s just not on. All I can say is what a shame it’s a beautiful looking pub shame it hasn’t got a good track record or someone trying to make it better!!

Had a lovely lunch with my mum. We were met with a smile and the waiter couldn't have done enough to ensure we were comfortable. We used to visit this pub a lot as a family when I was younger so it was lovely to return and remember how great it was. A lovely village pub that should definitely be recommended to all.

Just tried to book in for a group of 6 just arrived in Biddestone. Absolutely no luck. There is no way the Acting Manager would allow us to stay as they had a new chef and couldn't possibly allow 6 people to book meals...even if we ordered separately and the meals could come whenever. Really poor show. We certainly won't be back and we wouldn't recommend this pub. So disappointing!

I had the blue cheese and steak pie and mash, the gravy was delicious, really flavoursome and thick and the pie was generous in meat with the blue cheese not too strong! Absolute winner. My colleague had a very generous portion of fish and chips, although I didn’t try it the batter was superb!

One of the best meals we have eaten out recently. We had excellent vegan and meat dishes. There is a very good chef in the kitchen, for sure. Highly recommended

They don't sell half pints i had to order a pint at lunchtime! i ordered egg and chips and was charged for ham egg and chips £14 ! Hence making my 2 eggs priced at £10 when queried i was told their till doesn't itemise this is a rip off by any standard Service was slow had to wait an hour The pub is dark and dinghy despite nice pictures from outside

Went here to celebrate my sister in law's birthday and we we're disappointed. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. This place is well worth a visit

There were eight of us for a family birthday meal and we had The snug to ourselves. The home cooked food was superb and the pub had a nice family atmosphere. Highly recomend.

Don't go on Monday or Tuesday evenings and expect to be fed!! Kitchen is closed those days!

Stayed nearby with the family and had several meals with large groups over the course of a week. Mid price range, but generally high quality food & pretty good drinks. The small team of staff were good & personable - expect to maybe have an actual conversation with a human, but also don't expect al 'professional' (or impersonal) service. Highlights - home made chips, rich chicken & bacon pie, crispy battered fish, balanced & light shakshuka eggs, small but good beer range. Village pond with ducks next door, wesleyan Chapel down the road. Landlord (I assume he was, an older gentleman) came & had wee chat & check in on every visit. Maybe could improve the (bit naff) house white wine, though this is a common problem for pubs. The more expensive wine was much better. I think that's all that could be improved.

A great pub in a lovely unspoilt village, right on the green by the pond. We had a most enjoyable evening meal plus good local beer. Friendly, welcoming staff made it a well worthwhile visit.

Surprisingly extensive menu on this Tuesday lunchtime, but I chose a sandwich as planned. Delicious and beautifully presented. Lovely fresh bread, and came with a small basket of chips and side salad. Perfect with the glass of chilled sauvignon I'd ordered. Service was attentive and friendly without being overwhelming, as not busy in the pub. Our dog was made welcome indoors and had a fuss made of him when he'd behaved well. Quick look at the garden before we left with a thought for future visits...bit of a hidden gem, and would make the perfect spot to return to and try out some more of the menu. Will definitely be back.

Very disappointing visit. Phoned and booked a table for roast. Ordered drinks - then told no roasts. Phone to book somewhere else close by. On entering the pub again told they did have two roasts, ready to go. Cancelled table at other pub. Told at table they did not actually have those roasts.... very disappointed even though they did give us the 2 pint we had on the house and were apologetic. Luckily the pub in which I booked as a replacement and then cancelled were very kind to fit us in last minute and did not mess us around!

Didn't have a meal but just sat outside watching the world go bye I'd recommend the the beer Timothy tayler and even managed to rescue a lost duckling!!

Pre booking advised.This pub always serves up a great welcome and great food. Have been visiting on and off for 30 years and it is one of my top 5 pubs to visit when in the area.The meat option this week was Roast Pork with duck fat roasted potatoes, stuffing and veg.The meal was, as always, fantastic.The staff are really friendly and the setting is an ideal way to pass a couple of hours away from it all.

Good afternoon, We attended your pub last night and was really disappointed with the food. The staff were lovely but the food was far from good. The steak was like a slab of meat - very grisly and rare when asked for medium well done which we wrapped up and brought home for the dog. The mushroom starters were tasteless and the whole presentation was not good.

Lovely pub the bar manager was wonderful made us feel very welcome the waitress was great always making sure you were ok for drink etc cannot understand the bad reviews definitely will be back

After an 11 mile walk from Biddestone to Lan Hill and back, my partner and I were completely shattered, and instead of heading home and cooking, we cheekily checked if the pub had space for a 2 person walk in for food.... And they did! Service was slow but its literally only one person running around doing all the jobs and doing the utmost best she can! But it gave us time to sit and relax, enjoy a cola before ordering food, then digesting the main meal before ordering dessert. If you like a slower paced meal out, here is perfect. We sat inside after spending 6 hours out in the sunshine it was a nice cool space out of the heat. And the food was devine! I had Breton pie, my partner had Crab risotto, and then we both had Eton Mess for dessert, and we both have no complaints on the food, compliments to the chef! A very delicious meal, and only living down the road in Chippenham we'll have to return in the near future! Definitely a place for a family meal or a cute cosy couple date night, and will come highly recommended by us!

Absolute shambles, tried the place 3 times now and each time it got worse. Very rude staff. Incompetent young lads running the show. You sit for a long time trying to get someones attention and the staff don't even look your way. They will bring drinks out but not check to see whats going on, who's waiting (there's a sign that says ring the bell and take a seat to order). Tried to order inside after no luck waiting and that threw everyone off, they just didn't know what to do and the orders not taken properly, went back in to add another drink to the order and the bar man found the notepad on the other side of the bar which hadn't been handed to him. Shambles trying to order food. Eventually the wrong drinks were given.I'm not blaming the young lads, its clearly their first job but they need some serious guidance and the place needs a process. I was one of about 3 or 4 groups of people bewildered by the shambles an complaining of the extensive waiting times and lack of clarity. Such a shame, its such a beautiful spot but its one of the worst run pubs I've ever been to.

Sunny Bank Holiday...8 other tables being used...waited 10 mins before asking to be served...waited another 10 mins before getting a menu myself...waited another 10 mins before getting up and walking away without any acknowledgement of our being there...had high hopes...complete failure...try it if you have a spare 6 hours

Would not go here again, we went here around three years ago the service the staff the location was 100% and but not on our last visit, this place changes staff like the weather, we went for something to eat the cook was swearing her head so much that we had to leave

Someone said in a review check your bill. I did and they had "forgotten" to deduct the £5 a head booking fee. Lovely meal, excellent beer, pretty good service - but a slightly nasty taste left in the mouth.

Despite current conditions with Covid, The White Horse have done an amazing job setting up spacious outdoor seating. They're still providing hot food as well as drinks. Highly recommend the burgers!

Very disappointed with yesterday's visit. There was only 4 tables to be served on arrival but the lady was struggling with the pressure. When she came over to take our drinks Ord she was very flustered, she then brought out our drinks and asked us to pay however we wanted food-we had the food menu in front of us, when we said can we order a portion of chips each (2 portions) she rolled her eyes, sighed and said erm I guess so. When the chops arrived it was the smallest portion I had ever seen (13 chips..), we then asked for mayo because it seems that the service of this lady wasn't going to ask us if we wanted anything, she then got us a bottle of mayo which was shortly taken off of our table without asking if we were finished so it can be shared with another table... don't think this is acceptable with covid. We could hear one lady coughing ALOT inside which was very off putting and also no members of staff had any sort of face covering on... won't be returning anytime soon and wish I didn't waste my money.

We have never eaten at the White Horse prior to the pandemic but the White Horse's board outside caught our eye on passing. They are doing a takeaway service of the full menu with specials on given nights during lockdown. On a Friday we had the fish and chip special and a burger, all of which was delicious. The food was of a good quality and the right size portions, and the fish & chips in particular were beautifully cooked. We loved it so much we went back the next week and tried something different, which was also delicious. The staff were very friendly and efficient, and it felt COVID safe, with collection from a table outside, the food well packaged and in a plastic tray for ease of carrying to be returned later. We will be back, during and after lockdown when hopefully we will be able to go in for the first time! Thank you!

I didn't phone my takeaway food in advance as instructed during the lockdown, but was willingly accomodated by the owners. The veggie lasagne was excellent and very reasonably priced. Service was with a big smile. Thank you again.

Visited on Saturday lunchtime and all 3 of us had excellent meals, chicken pie, steak and fish and chips followed by tasty sticky toffee pudding. This was our first visit but won’t be our last, the team were very welcoming. Good Covid precautions including one way system..

Really looked forward to coming but sadly very disappointing. Seated in an area with the planned covid-19 one way system through it which is good but with very drunk locals going out through outside door regularly to drink outside was really chilly for those inside. Also dropping loads of booze everywhere on the carpet as not helpful with door handle & multiple drinks. Starters with ‘bread’ (goatscheese & pate) were basically two burnt thin slices of bread/toast, massive slab of industrial pate and goatscheese respectively plonked on a few salad leaves with two pine nuts. Attempted to order a sirloin but they didn’t do any accompanying sauces ie Stilton, peppercorn, asked if they could but refused as “didn’t have the ingredients” which I find odd in a pub kitchen to find essentially 3 basic ingredients. So changed order to the ravioli. Was edible & ok but had all the pasta water in the bottom swilling around which wasn’t nice. Other order pie & chips was ok. Lemonade glass was filthy at the top. First order got forgotten. Managed to get the bill and it was very expensive, even after charging us a £10 deposit the week before at booking. Checked bill and somehow there was a bottle of wine on it and a large glass of wine we didn’t have! Challenged it & they took off £30 or so in error. I feel really sorry for the local residents as the ‘locals’ were rowdy and now smashed outside (at 10pm). Staff were lovely though and the lad serving was really good so can’t fault the service but the food quality & bill error not good. Sadly won’t be going back.
