I had a wonderful dining experience! The food quality was truly amazing, and the service was top-notch. Despite the restaurant being busy, the staff remained incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Heidi was the one who served us and was so lovely with our dog, even giving him treats. It’s clear that they are very dog-friendly here, which made our visit even more enjoyable. I ordered the lamb roast, which was cooked to perfection, while my partner enjoyed the fish and chips, which were equally fantastic. The prices were also very reasonable. Highly recommend!

Always a great experience at this lovely pub. We are now fairly regular visitors and tend to commendere the pergola covered area outside. Genuine friendly service from a great team. Good selection of food and drink and in a pleasant and relaxing environment. Carl was super helpful on our last visit, even offering for me to taste a new wine. Highly recommended for a visit.

Wanted to try the white horse Sunday lunch for a while as it always gets good reviews. Finally got the opportunity to visit. Roast beef was delicious as was the lamb my husband had. Everything was lovely except it was all just “warm” didn’t stop us eating it all but could have easily been so much better. We did have the cauliflower cheese extra which was a little disappointing, hardly any sauce and again just warm. Don’t let this stop you going it was lovely, huge Yorkies!

As always, excellent service and food. Very happy to supply my elderly mother with a children's menu. Great music selection but not too loud. And the bus stop back to Berkhamstead is just outside. Perfect. Thank you

Went for Sunday lunch with my husband & mother in law. We all had a lovely meal ( lamb& pork loin) Staff were very attentive and friendly and the food was really good we all had deserts as well and wine would recommend for a family meal here. Food is cooked well it’s not over priced and has a lovely beer garden

Have to say the white horse has such great service, friendly staff, good food, just a really nice pub to catch up with people.

Lunch party organised by a .colleague, my crab and asparagus salad was disappointing. Doubt the crab would fill half a table spoon, about 5 small asparagus spears, plenty of small half potatoes covered in mayonnaise, the whole covered by some sort of greenery. Cost £15.50, worth about £3.00.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch at the white horse and even though they were busy our food arrived hot and quickly. Nice portions of meat and veg. We ordered some side dishes but in all honesty we didn’t need them. Also had a Black Cherry tart which was delish. Good service, very polite young waiters and waitresses. Would definitely go back 😁

Decent enough but out of 4 of us there was something not great on all of them. Roast - lukewarm, steak - chewy, - fish - a little dry, burger underwhelming.

Highly recommend. Great evening with family and friends.

The White Horse experience on Sunday evening was pleasant, with prompt and friendly service noted. However, the food, particularly the roast, could benefit from more seasoning and improved presentation. Sides were also deemed lacking, especially simple dishes like mash potatoes, which looked a bit sad. On a positive note, the venue offers ample parking and plenty of outdoor seating. Overall, while suitable for a quick visit, it doesn't particularly stand out from the crowd.

Excellent spot for Sunday lunch. The Yorkshire puddings were huge and perfectly cooked. Excellent service from Nancy and Olivia.

An average Sunday roast. Chicken was nicely done and tasted good, not much meat came with the turkey. Roast spuds are not roasted and not many veg, disappointing.

Had a lovely meal and a very attentive, thorough waiter (Carl). He was very good at finding out what was lactose and gluten free. There is also an extensive gluten free menu. I'm not usually a fan of chain pubs but this one is a good chain. I would definitely visit again.

Tyla gave superlative service. I was there for a lunch during a long bike ride. The service was attentive, the food arrived within minutes of ordering and the Moretti beer always great...

What a fantastic place!The food was great and the young staff team where absolutely amazing,they all went above and beyond for there guests,with a special shout out to Carl,he was exceptional in taking care of my husband Richard and I and we can’t thank them enough,we will return at every chance we get when visiting Berkhamsted!

This place came highly recommended so booked for my family of 8 for my birthday in March. While the food was lovely as was the setting, we were really disappointed that at least 3 of the Sunday roast options were not available as well as another non-roast option. It was only 3pm. Every option we wanted was sold out and as we were ordering - another meal half of us chose - had also sold out! Then when it came to desserts, about 3 desserts (of course, the ones we wanted) were also sold out. I appreciate the restaurant was busy but it's quite disappointing that by 3pm so many options were unavailable. And we weren't told until we were ordering that they were sold out, so we'd have to go back to the menu and re-look. I'm disappointed that when I emailed the restaurant, I never received an email back or any acknowledgement. Tip: book an early lunch to avoid missing out!

Lunch today for 14 with 4 dogs. Service was exceptional and Carl couldn't do more to make us feel welcome. Will be back to try Sunday lunch!

Great spring time drink outside with our dog, we felt we had to make the most of the Easter sunshine. A lovely waitress called Tyla explained they had dog treats and bought us the dog menu (a treat was chosen our dog loved it) . A great pre supper drink spot we will be back. Service was excellent and staff lovely

Went for Lunch and had a lovely meal. The staff were friendly and helpful and there were plenty of staff working which seems to be a rarity these days. The food was beautifully cooked and the ingredients were fresh and good quality. I particularly enjoyed the onion nest!

One of the best discoveries I've made since my job has had me travelling all over. Delicious, well priced food. Really friendly service, cosy and welcoming atmosphere, which can sometimes be hard to find as a lone traveller. I am booking the hotel nearby again next week just so I can go back!

The new menu was introduced yesterday and we wanted to try it out. We shared a starter of Scallops and it was beautifully cooked and very tasty. My wife chose fish and chips for a main course and I chose the Gammon Sirloin. Both were cooked to perfection. The Gammon Sirloin was a thick cut and not the usual slice of bacon and was moist and very enjoyable Olivia looked after us at this visit and as usual the service was excellent.

Overall a lovely roast dinner and desserts were very good with a great range. My only two criticisms are that the roast potatoes aren’t roasted. Not sure how they are cooked but they definitely aren’t roasted and the cauliflower cheese has no cheese hence the pure white colour instead of golden and a teeny portion. A shame as it would be the perfect roast otherwise which is rare to find in the area. Always excellent service and lovely friendly staff.

Lovely friendly country pub with great food. We visited for the first time with 2 dogs and 2 teenagers and we were all made to feel very welcome. The service was great even though it was quite busy. Will definitely be returning.

We had a brilliant lunch yesterday, the food was beautifully prepared, my rare steak was rare..hurrah andy friends fish and chips was light and yummy. Our waiter Carl looked after us perfectly. My dog loved the attention too!

The White Horse hosted a large family function recently with about 60 guests for me. All arrangements were made simply and easily (Laura was brilliant). The buffet food and service were amazing. Nothing was too much for them. Would highly recommend as a great venue for large gatherings (we had exclusive use of the 1/2 of the pub nearest the A41). Many thanks to the team in making this go so well.

Lovely place and very nice waiting staff and manager. The food is really high standard and everything we ordered tasted absolutely delicious. We will recommend this place and come here again for sure.

What a fabulous place this is!!! Comfortable table, right by a roaring open fire. Excellent service (by the lovely Will especially - but everyone was great). Absolutely delicious roast dinner - with the best gravy ever!!! Scrummy puddings and good coffee. An absolute perfect Sunday afternoon. Thanks to the team at the White Horse….highly recommended.

We had a great Sunday lunch at this local pub. It was busy but service was speedy and super friendly. Our server Olivia was very attentive and kind too. Food was delicious, especially the enormous Yorkshire puddings! We will definitely be coming back next time we're in the area

After a hiccup of not being able to find our pre-chosen Valentines Day menu (so some items not available) the food was good, and service - by Faith and the Duty Manager - excellent. They even persevered and found our details in the junk folder! Dog friendly restaurant, which is a bonus for us. Would recommend.

Where do I start, The food: I wanted the roast beef however, arrived at a time where ever flowing car park of extremely happy customers had taken all the beef so the kitchen were very forward thinking and offered flat iron steak instead, extremely impressed! The beef was superbly cooked and the sides plus Yorkshire pudding were amazing. Service: the staff are great. Full of laughter, character and warmth. Can't ask for more on a nice Sunday later afternoon. Atmosphere: Extremely family friendly of all ages, lots of laughing, lots of eating and lots of smiling. This place is golden and one I'll be seeing again very soon. Thanks team White Horse

New years meal disappointed Not a lot of prawns in cocktail to much chopped tomatoes and cucumber Prawns were little, cheap and not tasty at all Meal could have come with more vegetables (seabass) New years party was good

Food wS good considering they were catering for so many Christmas parties. I didn't like that it was only table service for drinks, just made things difficult.

Gorgeous pub, service was great. Very few vegan options, and one of the labelled vegan options was not in fact vegan as it contained dairy. I had the burger which was bland but the chips were very good. Menu labelling needs to be improved, not only for dietary preferences but also for allergy sufferers.

Once again we had a wonderful meal, and Christmas day was outstanding. Carl and Laura give you such a warm welcome, the staff are so good and friendly. The food is fist class. Thank you

This is the second time we have chosen the White Horse for our group of five friends get together for lunch. It was easy to book, the range of dishes on the menu is extensive and the service was efficient. My wife has a small appetite so she asked our waiter, William, for a small portion. He said portions were fairly standard but he would pass the request to the kitchen. When the food came it was a small portion, just the right size, thus avoiding wastage of food. Very impressive! There was also a good range of drinks including five non-alcoholic beers.

Thank you for looking after 14 of us on the evening of 02/12/23,Excellent service, we all enjoyed our food and its not easy with a varied menu. All meals arrived together and not one issue. Well done the management & staff........we will return !

Popped into the White Horse for a Sunday roast last week and ordered the lamb shoulder to share. The food was very tasty and excellent value. Ben was our server and he was excellent, thank you Ben. The pub was very busy and we were tucked away in the back corner, which took away from the atmosphere slightly, but otherwise great. Would recommend.

We called to change from 4 to five people and the lady who we called to change this was unreasonable and rude about the whole situation. We won’t go. She said due to health and safety she can’t add a chair to a table. Or allow one more person for this family gathering. Very disappointing we went somewhere else instead.
