The Rose and Crown Pub in Dacorum

Very disappointed with the service here, no last orders bell, then told to get out the pub because they've decided to close and don't want to be there anymore because they're working again in the morning. Also there are no glasses after 11pm, just plastic cups.

Arrived quite tired after a 14 hour shift to join some friends for a drink. Was accused of being drunk at the door by the bouncer - no alcohol, just a little tired. After being served my first beer, I went for another. The lady behind the bar screamed “I will not serve you, I will not serve you. You are too drunk. I will not serve you!”. My girlfriend and I looked at each other, a little bemused. The lady behind the bar then got her other three co-workers all around her, while the manager looked over at me from a saloon door. In unison they all repeated “you are too drunk. We will not serve you. We will not serve you.” Absolutely bizarre experience. But it was fun in a way. Probably wouldn’t go back but they did play some nostalgic music.

Came here to watch football but no one could operate the TV, manager couldn’t be contacted either. Filthy with dust and litter everywhere, toilets were disgusting and sticky floors. Had to wipe my feet on the way out. Barlady was friendly but needed more training. Not her fault.

Lovely pub right in the heart of it, Family run and every single one of the staff are friendly and make you feel right at home! Drink prices are reasonable and the entertainment is second to none! with karaoke on a thursday and live entertainment fridays and saturday nights! love love love

Tried to more than double the number of clientele in there at 8pm on a Saturday night (from 4 people to 10 people). Told by a barman wearing tracksuit and football shirt that it didn't fit the dress code. Ridiculous. Good luck staying in business.

If in uniform then not permitted. Door policy is a little strange considering how quiet it is. AVOID is the best advice. The door staff were calm and professional. Very non aggressive. Respect! Following owners orders. The Manager's/Owner's policies need a review.

Used to go here all the time. Went here tonight on a chill evening, went to the bar and basically got threatened with a fight from the bar staff for no other reason than he was absolutely off his face. Avoid this if you want a fun night but go here if you want a spit and sawdust sort of night that might end up with a first with the bar staff, Bloody weird night that’s all I can say

Visited Rose and Crown this afternoon for a quite couple of wines. Police arrived and we were asked to leave. We were not aware of any issues, however we were asked to leave our drinks and vacate the pub. Totally confused and bewildered and no explanation. Definitely reconsider visiting this pub again.

Popped in for an early evening drink. The side of the bar we sat in was absolutely freezing - even the barmaid had her coat on and we had to keep ours on. I went to use the toilets and they were absolutely filthy - looked like the mess had been there some time. It totally put me off wanting to stay any longer so my partner and I left. Such a shame as this used to be a nice clean pub but not for me now.

I mean it's a decent pub but it's very busy, cramped and the £5 minimum on card is not great. Karaoke night is great tho

Visit ther today after booking via phone yesterday. Front dining area was packed (glad we booked). You are given a tick list for lunch you can choose 2 from 5 veg. Food was ok I had gammon her indoors had lamb. My lunch was good and hot the lamb and roasters were hot the veg was warm. There were plenty of wine flies (tiny little sods) around the area near the fire place and bar. We sat in the window area and the chairs were too small for the table. The chairs and curtains (in matching material and pattern) both were in need of a clean. The front dining area really needs an uplift it is very dark and dingy. We had a bottle of wine (Merlot at £13.50) good value for the area and 2 lunches all came to £32.50. We were looked after very well by the staff and will come again. We just hope they redecorate soon.

After wiping the tears of joy from my face , I stared out the window longingly, wishing I could eat it again . I'm currently wondering if the chef would take a marriage proposal. Unfortunately no other roast will ever compete .I recon if they sold roast daily I'd probably just set up a direct debit and bin the oven. The only negative is no delivery .

I am sorry to say that our lunch was not up to expectations. Starters were OK, except for the brie which was so overcooked the brie had mostly gone. The wait between starters and mains was incredibly long, which was difficult with a hungry toddler, and the starter dishes were still on the table when the mains arrived! All the mains were overcooked with the tiniest pieces of meat on the triple roast. The staff did bring another piece when we queried this however. The Pork was mainly fat and inedible. The Chicken very dry and the Chicken pies contents were a mystery .. not what was expected. All for £33 per head was sadly extremely disappointing.

The outdoor seating area here is fairly limited. Heaters are attached to the overhead shelter for cold nights as we are only allowed to dine outside as of now so it's good to see they care about the customer enough to do that. They are on a timer though which does cause some funny banter when random people press it the button to turn it back on for the whole outdoor sitting area. Came here for my brother's birthday and had a good night. Service can be slow here as the card machine has a weak connection outside.

We had a fabulous takeaway Sunday roast dinner today, it was superb, the best takeaway roast, I would recommend.

Had the pleasure of having our first take away roast dinner from the rose and crown,meat cooked to perfection lovely selection of fresh vegetables all tasty and wrapped well to take away. Highly recommended and so nice to be able to support a small business in such hard times

Tried my 1st takeaway Roast dinner a couple of weeks ago for myself and daughter and we loved it. Quality food, able to select your faves from the tick list or select everything! Amazing portion sizes. Potatoes and gravy especially are yum. Since been back and eat in with friends and they also loved the food. Exceptional customer service.

We went for Sunday dinner, which was lovely and you certainly get good value. The choice of drinks was also good. However, this pub needs some work such as painting in the pub area and work to the toilets.

Came for a Sunday roast with my partner and little boy that I booked during the week as I heard it can get booked up quite quick, the food was absolutely lovely and you had so much choice to choose from as your given a check list of everything you want and just tick off what you would like and there was so much food I couldn't finish for only £7.95! And the kids portion is really big aswell, I couldn't fault the food in the slightest and I highly recommend the rose & crown for a Sunday roast! 😁

Sunday lunch today seemed as if it had lovely fresh roast potatoes and a mix of what can only be described as last week's frozen, defrosted and reheated. Don't get me wrong the lunch is sufficent in quantity, a good individual choice and very tasty. It seems a shame to lower the standard slightly by using what seems to me to be last week's not used food. This is not a confirmed review just my honest opinion. That said I will be back and if similar mention it at the time.

AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID having your events here for any special occasion! my partner and I rang the business up to find out how much it was we were told it was £50 to hire plus a £50 deposit which we will get back if there was no breakage which was perfect! we went up spoke to a woman who showed us the room it was ok for the number of people I had coming I paid the £50 to book the venue I asked her to fill out a receipt of my proof and she followed up by saying you just need to give £50 on the day which is returned the same night. Fast forward to the evening of the event I go in and I pay the last £50 and was told your get this back later so the event goes on the 2 bartenders were fantastic both girls did an amazing job up to the end of the evening come i ask the one of the girl about the return of my £50 has there was no breakages they both looked confused and puzzled and sed in the whole time they had been there they have never given the money back but maybe ask another bartender at the front so they go and ask her who I'm guessing is the supervisor and she also sed she has NEVER heard of a return in the £50 its best I call up in the morning and speak to the landlady so I called up and asked to speak to the landlady who sed and I quote "Your money is non-refundable, in the 9 years iv been here we have never given any money back" which I replied with "that's ridiculous we were told we would get £50 back" she then went on in a very rude tone "whats rediculous its £50 to hold its and $50 to have it and its all non-refundable so why you calling me asking for your money back" which was not what we were told us! its such a shame has the night we had was great and everything was going to plan etc but I'm sorry no after the unprofessionalism of the landlady & the lack of communication with her staff is terrible. Iv had family members and extended family member who has had there birthdays here who have all told me that they have had £50 returned to them at the events they have held there before over the last 2 years! Venue room is nowhere near the rate of £100 to waste on I think you need they need to rethink and look at there venue pricing an actually let ALL staffing know about the prices and mention that its NON-REFUNDABLE Poor management the owner needs to update everything from pricing to decor! The ONLY decent thing was the sizing of the room for my mums 50th and the bar girl who were very engaging with all the party very professional behind the bar fast-paced and got drinks out in time I highly recommend that the owners of the rose and crown update they venue and update your goddamn bar so that it holds all drinks we were having our mixers being poured from bottles of lemonade and coke & diet coke which were warm bottles.

We came here for lunch and the food was lovely. I had the diablo pizza followed by the chocolate ball pudding, both of which were great. The whole family enjoyed our food.

Booked a few days before. You are given a tick sheet, just tick what you want (choice of 4 meats) 2 spuds and lots of veg choice with yorkies and stuffing, food very tasty and hot. We had a Guinness and bacardi and coke with the lunch, great value at under £25 for the lot. We will be back.

We'd initially read all the wonderful reviews for Sunday Roast here and looked at the pictures, so couldn't wait to try it. Our first meal, 2 weeks before, as a couple, was delicious and we kept raving about it to friends.It was also great value for money, with large helpings and we were very pleased. When we returned however, with 2 friends we'd recommended it to, we were really disappointed. The portions had shrunk by half and we had smaller plates, so we're left feeling hungry, even though we ticked more boxes for more vegetables this time and it wasn't as if we ate later and there wasn't a lot left. The food was nice and flavoursome but with only 3 small roast potatoes for example, instead of 5 and 6 we were served with the first time, it left us disappointed and we felt embarrassed when our friends quickly cleared their plates after we'd recommended the place. It was as if they didn't have enough food in or hadn't cooked enough, so were rationing it. Wondering if things have changed now though as the plates had shrunk too ☹

I love this pub, they have great bands on Saturdays and amazing food on Sundays, the staff are impeccable and lovely, nothing is a problem and too happy to help. The Sunday Roasts are another level all forest with a choice of about 14 items and two meats for £7.95, it's top draw food, you won't eat for the rest of the day, so much food and quality, nothing locally can touch their Sunday Roasts it is that good.

Popped in with a couple of friends, place doesn't look appealing from outside and when you go in its as if the place is split in 2. That said the service was ok, drinks fine and moderately priced. Didn't eat and saw no menus, will pop back in again to try the food.

Cosy old pub which on the Friday night we were there was buzzing. Live band, lots of noise, lively. Had a great time. I'm sure it's not like that every night, but we certainly enjoyed that nite out. ;-)

Sunday dinner was great will defo go again

I've made several visits to this pub that lead me to rate it OK. At times it has been quiet and cosy, and when there is live music, much more lively. The staff Have been friendly and service was good. I should come back to eat and see if I can raise my rating.

Amazing Sunday lunch, served within 5 minutes, enormous portion and extremely tasty. Landlady helpful and positive. 2 blazing fires. Couldn't praise highly enough.

Live music every Friday and Saturday and no admission fee! Good range of drinks. Play your cards right with karaoke on a Thursday. Food only served on a Sunday lunch but book early as usually sells out!

Good place to go to stay open late

Don’t be fooled by the poor decor, fold up chairs, and miss-matched cutlery. The roast dinner was one of the best I’ve been had out; a decent portion of everything I ordered. I had lamb and beef and the flavours were amazing. Decent roast potatoes!! Fantastic value for money.

We went with our 2 kids for the first time. The staff were cold and unwelcoming. They were walking past us but never acknowledged our presence. The last straw was that one of the bartender said it was fully booked and to sit outside in a rude and unfriendly manner. Never had this experience even in a takeaway 😡

Took some friends to lunch. The meal was suberb. Cannot fault the place. Welcoming, pleasent and friendly. The burgers were outstanding and for £7.50 with s soft drink you cannot go wrong. The food was home cooked and delicious. Try it!!

So welcoming with a lovely landlady. Busy live bands Friday and Saturday nights. Karaoke every Thursday and fabulous Sunday roasts.
