Amazing place. Service is spot on and offer up until 6pm is very good value. I paid the steak supplement and very glad I did it was phenomenal. The steak here is better than Prime across the road and not as expensive. Best place to eat in Berko for me.

First time I've eaten at this restaurant and I was very impressed with the whole service, the waiter was very helpful with any food questions or changes we wanted to make with any of the dishes available and if he wasn't sure would ask. The prices I thought were very reasonable for the quality of the food. I had the onglet steak which was cooked to perfection and with an extra portion of vegetables to go with the chips. It was midweek but still was very busy and had a good atmosphere. Will definitely use this restaurant again and highly recommend it for all.

Oh dear - what has happened here... having been going for the last few years and every meal and service was superb (hence why we continued to go) last nights visit was a completely different experience. The ambience, staff, service and whole experience was not comparable. They seem to have rebranded to include more of a pub vibe with a beer garden which attracts a completely different crowd.. upstairs in the private dining room there was a crowd of people shouting and singing football type songs at the top of their voices - very annoying! The restaurant used to be packed every Saturday night now only a few tables were taken - obviously the changes you have made there are affecting your business seriously and you should revert asap to the 'old Lussmanns' - it is not working and we won't return if it stays as is sadly. There used to be the same staff for years but now they seem to have sadly moved on and the new crew do not compare - such a shame. Even a part from the front restaurant has been made into a pub area - you're going to lose so many diners but think this has happened already. This feedback should be used to put right these unfortunate decisions you have taken.

Amazing restaurant and amazing food I had the Ouglet steak cooked Rare and it honestly was the best thing I’ve ever tasted. Me real served us was she was very friendly and very helpful. Great waitress. Thank you very much team. Xx

We had a delicious meal last night at the five bells. Great service from Chris, and the food was incredibly fresh and flavoursome. Highly recommend if you’re in the Berko area!

Nine of us dined (a late lunch) in the private dining room on the first floor. The team (gloriously international) were friendly, upbeat, patient and attentive. The food was attractive to look at, beautifully cooked and very tasty. We were not pressurised to leave and enjoyed nearly 4 hours of consummate hospitality.

Very pleasant people but just not interesting enough food or atmosphere to come back.

This is our second visit to Five Bells by Lussmanns in Berkhamsted. We came back after a superb first experience, and were not disappointed the second time. The ambience is pitched just right for a romantic evening or dining with a couple of friends. I perhaps wouldn't go here with a large group for fear of spoiling the calm, sophisticated air of the place, but I guess that depends on who you party with! The staff are very professional and attentive. I love there is a small intimate bar area if you like an aperitif before being seated. The decor and comfort of the restaurant is wonderful. By no means least, the food...excellent, fresh ingredients and a very well thought out menu. We enjoyed the Thyme-roasted beetroot and potted crab to start, followed by the Label Anglais free-range chicken schnitzel and slow cooked featherblade of beef all of which was delicious. Portion sizes are not too overwhelming leaving enough room for desert - and thank goodness, or I wouldn't have experienced the honey and thyme pudding which really was outstanding. Nice wine list and I appreciate the option of carafe's when one glass won't do and a whole bottle would send me over the edge! Thanks Lussmann's! I had a fabulous birthday meal and thank you for the little birthday treat at the end.

Had a lovely time at the 5 bells today. Amazing food! The fish pie was brilliant and Josh our server was great too! Highly recommend this for a good pint and even better food!

I had high expectations from the previous reviews, but I’m not very happy with my own experience. The food itself is truly nice, with an imaginative menu and pleasant flavours. However, not even five minutes after we were seated at table, our server brought our starters. It was so very fast that the server did not even have the opportunity to bring us olives and bread. Our server was himself surprised by the speed at which our starters were prepared. Needless to say, I was more surprised when our mains arrived within minutes of our starter plates being cleared. So much so that I couldn’t resist commenting to the server that this is truly a fast food place. In total, our starter and mains were eaten and done by 40 minutes from being seated at table. The food service is so fast that one can only conclude that food is pre-cooked and quickly microwaved. Not the sort of food place I wanted to book.

excellent meal. Cod Cheek Burger was scrumptious and the desserts were to die for. Super service and although not cheap was well worth the money. Ingredients were spot on .. excellent venue.

We had a nice mother's day late lunch early dinner here. The vegan option (King scallop oyster mushrooms) was delicious and my daughter enjoyed the lamb bombas. I tried the smoked trout which nice and my son had the potted crab. Mains were a bit more hit and miss with my smoked haddock being spoiled because it was very salty and overwhelmed with a cream sauce. He poached egg on top however ever was perfect! Again the vegan flatbread option with fake lamb was nice and the cod cheeks and whole sole were delicious. We nearly passed on dessert but pleased we didn't because the lemon posset, sticky toffee pud, apple crumble and chocolate mousse were delicious too. The waiting staff were attentive. Book in advance at a weekend.

Went for a pint in the Five Bells and decided to stay for some food. Traditional style, good food cooked well and excellent service. I’m going to come back in the summer to try the garden looks stunning.

A gem in the heart of Berkhamsted 😍 the food is excellent, friendly staff, and their lovely garden at the back is warmly welcoming you! Either two courses or three courses meals, it is value for money. Reservations in advance are always good because this place is quickly booked 👍🏼 This evening we had our meals again at the Five Bells and I had a vegetarian meals, ‘mince lamb’ with pita bread. It was delicious..!!

I have been here a few times recently and every single dish ordered has been delicious. The service is always fantastic and the decor and atmosphere is lovely. They have been so accommodating when we have dined with our newborn and buggy. I would recommend the cod cheeks, chicken schnitzel and lemon posset!

A wonderful evening dining here. The restaurant is inviting and cosy. The food was amazing, myself having steak, partner having the chicken dish and two having the veggie options. We really enjoyed all three courses. The service was great, definitely my favourite restaurant in Berkhamsted by far which I’ll visit again and again.

We had a party of 4 on the 22/12/23, the welcome was very warm and lovely, the food as aspected was delicious and fresh, the service was efficient , the atmosphere was amazing and the Xmas decorations were great and very festive. It's a 10 from us🎅

Lovely interior, interesting and delicious dishes, very friendly and professional team. Our service was at a 'relaxed' pace, which was no issue for us. If you are on a tighter schedule just mention it to the team and i am sure they will look after you and ensure things are more snappy.

Best Garden in Berkhamsted, service is always spot on, food gorgeous, much better than when it first opened. Been twice lately and can't fault. Fix menu great value, pity the garden is so quiet, maybe ppl don't know about it?

Lovely restaurant with Greta menu, fab old building and lovely staff. Lots of fish on menu, they use sustainablly sourced and local food where possible. Great mocktails also!

We had a delectable meal. Three of us opted for the two-course set, which comprised of a main and dessert. My sole was delicate and very enjoyable. My husband liked his steak, although his main criticism was that it was a bit small for him. The chocolate mousse was not overly sweet and the nut brittle added a nice crunch, but it did stick to your teeth a bit. MIL seemed to like her sticky date and ginger pudding, which had a strong ginger note to it. Service was friendly. We had a good experience.

Great food served in a comfortable space with excellent service

Absolutely lovely place to eat. The food is incredible and the "before 6.30pm menu" makes it accessible for all budgets. The waiting staff are super friendly and were able to deal with my daughter's allergies in a knowledgeable and effective way. Menus were reorganised to ensure she was well catered for. Great wine list and lots of good choices for non alcoholic options. Options for all budgets. The atmosphere is nice and the area at the front had good lighting and a nice seating space. Im not a massive fan of the area out the back, but no doubt it's a better space if you're in a larger group or can fill the area. I feel it's an understated gem in the town, so if you haven't been, you certainly should!

My favourite time to come here is on a Winter's day at lunchtime, for a 'comfort' lunch. A short walk from my place of work, and a nice way (and venue) to break up the day. Modestly priced, good service.

I primarily went there to watch a football match, drink some real ale and get something to eat. The footy was good, my team won. The real Ale was from Tring and also good. No food though. This is what I would call a proper pub that had the potential for a good atmosphere although it was quiet during the lunch time I was there.

Moved in round the corner a month ago, and already fond of this place. Proper cosy old boozer, friendly staff and punters, and the beer is good. Having a quiet pint now, and when the landlord served me, he said "What can I get you, young man?" I'm 49 years old. Made me smile.

Love it here. No screaming kids, lovely locals of both human and canine variety, even Mumbles the local cat pops in. The landlord and landlady are so welcoming, as are all the staff. Great boozer!

The Lamb is a really great example of a great British pub. It attracts locals to chat, play pub games and drink. The staff know everyone and it is like a comfy pair of slippers. Food is honest grub well prepared.

Set on the high street but with a very relaxing vibe, The Lamb is a proper pub, offering a friendly welcome and serving proper beer. No frills. Nothing fancy. Very popular with locals for a reason.

The Lamb is a small pub, crammed into the High Street. It serves good pub food that I can really recommend. Served with chips sort of food. There are chairs and tables outside which are good in the summer.

I visited the Lamb for lunch last week and can honestly say that it was the nicest ham, egg and chips I've ever eaten. Wonderful chutney with it and the ham was thick, lean and delicious. Thank you to the chef and we'll be back!

Had some thing to do in Berkhamsted and got a bit peckish to a quick look round and decided to try the Lamb Pub. Pleasantly suprised that this was not a "gastro-pub" or "themed Pub " given the area, but a typical community/family pub. They serve real ale always a bonus and looked through the menu not a great range but all variations on the pub style grub.My friend and I decided on the Steak Baguette with fried potatoes & salad expecting to get a hamburger type steak & chips.What we received were two large freshly cooked baguette filled with sliced steak with fried potatoes NOT chips & a proper chopped salad. The portions were just right and the addition of proper english mustard set it off a treat.The service for both food and drink was very welcoming and cheerful If I have more visits in that area I will be back for sure and told a friend who lives near by that he should give the Lamb atry
