Lovely old country pub at a crossroads in the middle of the village. We rocked up on our m-bike , ordered a couple of drinks & sat out front watching accidents waiting to happen at the junction on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The pub serves some ales, usual suspects of keg & a wide variety of bottles. From 12 till 4pm they serve roast dinners, which we didn't have ( hence the 4*).Attached to this beautiful place is the old stables & also attached is an old barn . Lovely garden too, with a fantastic lean too which houses a pizza oven. Large car park at the rear. Look forward to eating here & awarding 5*'s.

Excellent! Very good staff, everything super clean and tidy, outside relaxation area was absolutely immaculate. Young lady behind the bar recommended the best bitter and it was delicious. There aren't many small village pubs still operating to this level but the boss/bosses of this place deserve a medal, keep up the good work guys.

Called in for the first time after a day out. We were having a lovely time playing a game of hide and seek with one of my little boys toys, quietly in our corner seat, when he hid the toy behind the TV. A man then charged across the pub shouting aggressively at my 4 year old child not to touch the TV - he wasn't in danger, he was being very gentle and careful and he absolutely wasn't being naughty. My little boy was so shocked and scared he burst into tears and we left immediately. After speaking to the lady behind the bar, it seems that this guy was the chef. We will not be calling in again if this is the way the staff speak to the customers, especially well behaved children.

It was my first visit ever to this pub. I managed to park my car at the back, walked through the back entrance into a rather busy and charming little bar. I was spotted immediately by a male barman (possibly the landlord himself?) and politely asked what would I like. - So far, so good. I asked for a pint of "lemon & lime" (as I was driving). From a far, I thought that the glass used for my drink looked dirty and I was going to question it, but then I got to it I got distracted and forgot about it (old age!). They had live music on and I concentrated my attention on that. After a while, somebody left and I decided to sit down in his place - by the bar. I put my half drank glass on the bar and this is when my initial suspicion about the state of my glass was confirmed: it was clearly unwashed and disgusting. This is completely unacceptable during a pandemic! Of course, being British, I did not complain, but... I could have had 2-3 more drinks during my stay yet this one put me right off (I stopped drinking from that glass immediately and I just pray that I had not caught anything nasty!), and - of course - I definitely will not be going back. Yuck! The attached photo does not really convey fully how filthy the glass was: at the top there was a clearly visible, dried up ring of scum and, at the bottom, there must have been some remnants of the previous drink (probably also dried up) - with lots of bubbles forming in that area (a clear sign of a dirty glass). Ps. The live music on offer was excellent.

We booked two tables for a friend's catch up in the garden. I was very impressed with the lady that served us, she seemed to know the right time to ask if we wanted more drinks, and they didn't rush us to leave at the end of the night. They did have limited ales but she explained they had some cellar issues. There was a lovely atmosphere in the back garden where they have done a lot of work to make it look good and covid safe. We used to drink here many years ago so it was a good trip down memory lane.

My partner and I come away with our dog and stayed for a few days at the lovely and friendly Queens Head in Long Marston. After an easy check in we went to our ggood size room for us and our Greyhound (who takes up her space). We decided to have dinner in the pub it’s self, where we were warmly welcomed by the staff and other patrons. The landlord made the effort up a table for us (as we said at check in we be coming for dinner). We have visited many “dog friendly pubs” however I feel our dog was most welcomed including a few dog tweets. We had a lovely relaxing top class meal, that we both enjoyed. The key thing to note that is the queens head doesn’t offer a breakfast and this was not included when we booked. However I was informed over the phone and in person that cereal was offered in the room and for us this was a great as it meant we could stay in our room and relax. I would recommend this pub for both somewhere to eat and stay, with it’s great location to visit other areas including the town of Tring.

Have eaten here two evenings in the past week. Food was great on both occasions. I can recommend the five bean chilli and the ham, eggs, peas and chips. The ham was hand cut and was delicious. Lovely quality Sauvignon Blanc. A locals pub with roaring log fire and friendly patrons. Looking forward to returning to eat again soon. The menu is short and sweet and food is served on proper plates. None of those daft chip baskets or slate slabs in sight. Works for us!

We have eaten here several times and have not been disappointed. I like plain wholesome grub, I hate having food served in separate bowls on fancy lumps of slate trying to be something it’s not. The Queens Head fulfilled all my expectations. The vegetables were hot and cooked just right, not mushy. Everything else was lovely. The pudding was in a bowl, with a separate jug of custard. Just perfect for me! As the pub is small I recommend booking, it’s not fancy but personally just perfect!

I have previously reviewed the Queen's Head positively but am now inclined to agree with some of Carol S's OMG review. We were there for Sunday lunch which although not a roast was OK, very standard bar grub so we wouldn't rush back so probable repeat business lost as we are locals. A short menu with more homemade options would have been much better and I am sure would be more profitable for the owners. It isn't hard to offer a simpler choice of three or four homemade starters and mains? Isn't that common knowledge now that that is what customers want? We can stick stuff in breadcrumbs and oven chips in the oven at home ourselves!!! Homemade pate is incredibly easy AND cheap to make but the stuff they are serving appeared to us to be cash and carry quality and the other starters were obviously mass produced. This may explain why the pub was almost completely empty and we were almost the only people eating. What is inexplicable is that the bar person thought it was OK to lean on the bar the WHOLE time we were there on her phone and I mean the whole time apart from the once she asked us if everything was OK. She stood upright to serve drinks and then slumped forwards on her elbows into the same position, back on the 'phone. The owners of this place need to train her that even when it is quiet she needs to earn her wages, clean tables, glasses, offer refills etc. Don't tell me in a pub that size there aren't lots of jobs that need doing. Maybe I am old fashioned but I have never seen a barperson so idle in my life.

We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch here yesterday, great value, generous portions, high quality beef and really very friendly welcome and efficient service. One slight caveat is that the Yorkshire was a bit borderline (polite word, definitely overcooked) and probably should have been redone but only a very small criticism. It feels like a village pub should feel.

Popped in to the Queens Head in this lovely part of the country as we'd heard they do a Sunday roast until 4pm which was ideal for us. Such a friendly welcome from the new owners and staff, who are gradually restoring the premises, including a new area outside which was nearly completed. Ordered a chicken and a beef, and it was delicious - lots of gravy, perfect tats and parsnips, and a really nicely presented veg tray to share (see photo). Sadly it started to rain so our plan to walk up to the lovely Long Marston cricket ground was thwarted, but so pleased we found this charming old English pub. Will definitely be going back.

I booked a night in the B&B; for my partner and I, because it is dog friendly. We were visiting family nearby the following day so it was convenient for us and our pooch. I expected for £55 a night that the room would be of good quality and a reasonable breakfast offered. We were greeted by a friendly bar lady, but were asked for payment of the room almost immediately before we even got our things out, I did say we would rather get our things in the room and then sort that. Anyway, I paid the money and we were shown up there. My first impressions were that we were given a twin room, with very basic thin towels. The windows are thin too and noise easily heard. The floor seemed quite dirty and I instantly felt uncomfortable. I asked about breakfast and was pointed to the "continental breakfast" which was a plastic container with cornflakes in and the milk in the fridge. There was a toaster in the room, yet no bread. The bathroom tipped me over the edge. It was tired, dirty, and there was no way I was even going to use the shower, it looked like a health hazard. We quickly vacated the room, and I headed back to the bar to ask for a refund, which I received quickly by an apologetic bar lady. Our family welcomed us a night early. I would be disgruntled to even pay £30 for the room. Do not spend your money here, just because something is "dog friendly" does not mean that quality and cleanliness should be forfeited.

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst meeting our new granddaughter Esme. On arrival a decent size car park. Couldn't immediately check in as the only staff on that day was making a toasties for another customer. Taken to our room and it was fine but with a little attention could have been improved. No booked breakfast here but some cereals and milk are left in the room. Also a toaster but no bread. A microwave can be easily accessed. Nice little on suite. Plumbing not the best but functional. Shower took a bit of working out but worked fine when we sussed it. No heating on but it was not necessary. There was a plug in fire and hair dryer. Tv worked ok. In the bar the ale was in perfect condition. The wi fi was hopeless but everywhere we go that uses o2 is the same. It's not the Ritz or the Grand but for what we wanted it was perfect and pet friendly too. Keep up the good work. Only 2 rooms so book quickly.

We stayed here for a night as a stop over and enjoyed the experience. It is a friendly and cosy little pub, which the community is running whilst Fullers attempt to get a new landlord. The bedroom, in an old stable block next door, was in need of a lick of paint, but the bed was comfortable and there was minimal noise from the road outside. The pub is now producing a small range of evening meals and will provide a cooked breakfast if required. We had a small fridge in the room and a pint of milk for tea and coffee - a nice touch.

Visiting friends in Long Marston, we visited the Queens Head, and experienced an incredible community set up. The villagers are running the pub, which makes for the most fabulous atmosphere. My wife and I went to visit this pub recently as we had not been there for a couple of years. First the positives - a warm welcome by the young barman, good beer and a very clean interior, Now the bad news - The food!. We both ordered the shepherds pie, which stated came with a leek and potato topping. When I ordered the food, I asked if the shepherds pie could be well done with a crispy topping and my wife asked for some extra gravy. When the food was served, the topping on the pie was just plain mashed potato with no leeks whatsoever and the topping was not not crispy in the slightest (the potato topping was anemic). No additional gravy was served and the food was served with frozen vegetables. I think it's worth quoting from their website at this stage - "Our popular menu focuses on freshness, with all dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients - and we're constantly changing our offering to take advantage of the best seasonal produce" - Perhaps they bought the frozen veg locally? I also think the mince was cooked from frozen and there were no onions, seasoning and the taste was totally bland. As we were struggling to eat the meal, my wife asked for the gravy that we originally requested and when it came it was only lukewarm and lumpy!!. Both of us could not finish our food and when I went to pay, I had a quiet word with the barman about our experience. No apology was offered and when i asked for the bill, no offer was made about a reduction in cost. At this point, it may have helped if the barman had offered to fetch the manager who I believe was responsible for cooking the food. All in all, a bad experience by being served a tasteless dish cooked I believe by someone who does not understand basic culinary skills.

Even though we were not locals the welcome was warm and friendly (unlike many village pubs). Good size portions of well home cooked food served by the landlord, Andy, who took the time to chat even though he was busy. The pub has a great atmosphere and appeals to a broad range of customers including a group of parents with young kids, local walkers plus regulars. Would be a great place to visit with friends for a fun evening meal. Will be heading back on our next visit to the area to try some more of the interesting dishes on offer.

A good walking book we have suggested a 4 mile walk based on Long Marston. We did the walk ( very good indeed, partly beside the canal, but lots of variety in the area). Initially our heart sank because the pub at 1.30 was deserted, and indeed one of our number had to play hunt the bar staff. However, once found ( and given menus) the pub proved to be a very nice watering hole, that is should have more visitors. Our lunch was a large burger, beautifully served, albeit a bit bland for me. Service was very friendly. The pub is nothing wildly special-just a nice local pub that deserves to be used more.
