Dropped by for a cheeky lunchtime half. A small, charming pub with a couple of small outdoor areas. Seems keen to show sporting events, so might be busy on match days. I'll update once I've had a proper session!

Friendly, basic boozer; relaxed and quiet atmosphere for a Friday and with a relatively decent selection of drinks. Furnishings and set up have improved since u first went in around 25 years ago, however still not "fantastic" by any standards. Neither quaint/rustic nor modern/cool, it's a pub perennially caught between the two worlds; ok to go watch the football at or before heading someplace else, yet not really worth a visit in its own right.

No frills pub. 3 tvs showing sport inside, real ale on offerings as well as a gin selection, and usual spirits. Food is available, but limited to snacks, burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. Staff are friendly and facilities are clean, but no baby changing facilities available. Outside seating area is well done.

Me and my friends were sat in the garden of the pub, and around 5 of us were 18 and a few 17 year olds and the manager came out and shouted ‘underage out’ even though there are many families and underage people in this pub. The situation was dealt with very badly and I doubt I will return here, the staff were very rude and said “bye” sarcastically as we left. Please choose another pub such as the akeman or the castle

Spotted this little gem after a productive day of getting lost in Ashridge Forest. Ended up walking over 5 miles, so me and a friend had built up quite the appetite. From the outside, the pub itself seems relatively small, and could be missed to your average passer-by. A nice, unique touch of a beer terrace come alfresco dining area is what you are first greeted with before walking in the front door. Seating arrangements are great with some tall tables strategically placed within the bay windows, and some comfy looking couches under the relatively large TV. We ordered two pints of coke from a very efficient blonde bartender, who was also incredibly informative regarding where to find the food menus. We sat down at the tall tables by the window, relishing the kind summers day that in Britain, is unfortunately more a commodity than a seasonal asset. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, which was accompanied with chips and my friend had the plain cheeseburger, which he requested as completely plain, nice little tester for the kitchen/bar communication, that we've seen go horribly wrong at competitive fast food eateries. But low and behold, when the food followed its god sent scent from the kitchen, the burger had come as requested, but also the portions were larger than average. We practically inhaled the food and upon leaving, was thanked for our business. I left with a thank you in response, change in my pocket and a smile on my face. Good job guys, good job...

You asked me Trip Adviser to go and see this Public House, so yesterday I did when I got there @ just after 12noon as I like to eat early, there were No lights on and there is one step to walk on before 3 steep steps to go into the Pub, now so as not to be put off I phoned them to ask if there was another way in (this not signed posted) the young lady said there is two steps at the rear in the beer garden, that are not quite so steep, so really no good for those of us that have trouble with steps. It is a nice old Pub at the top end of Tring.. I am sure this is a nice place to go but those of us with disabilities a Challenge...

Very good choice of real ale which is always well kept. No food which keeps this as a drinking pub rather than being food focused. Sport shown on the 3 small TV's. A proper local pub!

The last time I visited this pub I couldn't wait to leave, and reviewed it accordingly. I was not planning a return visit any time soon but friends over the Easter weekend convinced me to try again with them which I did. WHAT A DIFFERENCE, Staff, very friendly, busy, but comfortable with a good pub atmosphere that I will return to for future visits. Beer excellent. On the downside, the male toilet is a bit smelly and the repair that will get rid of the bucket is urgently needed. SPEAK AS YOU FIND and visit the Anchor for a good nite out!

I don't believe some of the reviews that have happened of The Anchor recently - these have been contained in review of other establishment which I thought was against the rules.I have lived in Tring for 30 years and have only started going there since the management change. Since that time its a friendly welcome, good beer and nice atmosphere. OK no food - but the kitchen is so small that is understandable. But this is now a pub that has really improved and is well worth a visit.

I am a frequent visitor at The Anchor and disagree strongly with One particular review! This pub has been transformed by the current owners and the new manager since last November has only added to the great atmosphere, Tring Brewery features strongly and guest ales change regularly giving real ale lovers plenty of choice, there is not a full menu but the retro rolls are fresh and tasty. Staff and management are friendly and efficient and the cellar is well kept. Dogs are allowed inside. Overall it is a great place to relax with friends, all major sports are shown aswell. Great to have a proper pub at this end of the town. Well done Team Anchor!

With pubs closing all around this is a sorry state of affairs, that is until you visit the Anchor and you can appreciate why! This pub should be closed, the staff were more interested in amusing themselves than serving customers, the landlord introduced himself making facetious comments and silly jokes and looked and spoke like he had more drink than all of the customers put together! If this is an improvement upon want went before then I am staggered.DO NOT BOTHER - Use the Bell in the High Street, a real pub for real people!!!

Sorry but I have drunk beer here and because I was picking up a friend only had half a pint of lemonade.... £2.00 !!!!! Joke or what. When questioning the barmaid was told it's always more expensive !!!!!Well sorry I will not be returning .....Lemonade more expensive than beer ......... Keep it.Prices and attitudes like this will kill the pub trade.

We visited Berkhamsted to take a look around the Home & Colonial antique and interiors store. A store over 5 levels with "Black Goo" located on the very top floor. It is a great cafe / coffee house with superb decor and ambiance. We just had afternoon coffee (lattes) and cake, but the afternoon teas looked amazing!! Our coffee's were great and the White Chocolate Biscotti blondie that I had was very good. My latte was £3 and the cake was £3.50 Service was friendly and efficient and it all made for a very enjoyable experience. Would love to visit again one day.

Very disappointed with the service here, no last orders bell, then told to get out the pub because they've decided to close and don't want to be there anymore because they're working again in the morning. Also there are no glasses after 11pm, just plastic cups.
