Wanted a Sunday dinner delivered but it came cold and with extra turnip which I specifically said no turnip

Went for Sunday lunch today with my mam. It was absolutely lovely, it has a nice friendly atmosphere definitely going back.

Had a takeaway Sunday dinner it was fantastic ,meat perfect & plenty of it . Ordered on the telephone and it was ready waiting in the warmer x

Ordered a beef yorshire pudding wrap the yorkshire was uncooked and the beef was full of fat we couldnt even cut through it. You can tell it has been took over by someone new it has gone downhill drastically. The pint was nice though.

Booked a three course meal a couple of months ago so forgot what we had ordered. What a wonderful surprise! We both had the most delicious garlic mushrooms, followed by roast beef then a fab cheesecake with cream. Great value for money. Served freshly made and tasty. We were made to feel very welcome with the staff making sure every course was OK for us. Will be back soon. Thanks to all.

Visited today with my friend for lunch. The waitress was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The food was excellent, I ordered a small Yorkshire pudding wrap with beef and my friend got a large scampi and chips without peas. The portions were great, even for the small, and well worth the money. I’ve already been here a few times with family but it was my friends first visit and she said she’d definitely be returning. Great as usual!

Mydelf, the wife and my son visited the white horse last week and each had a main course. All the meals were eatable and no problems with the quantity but the room itself is quite dated and the tables too close especially for me who is on the larger size. The young lady serving was quick and friendly. Would I go again, probably as I have had a lot worse meals.

Called in on Great North Run Sunday for my son’s birthday, Warm welcome as always, quickly seated and orders taken, the smell from the kitchen was enticing, Choices of Beef, Pork, Turkey or Lamb, with Mince and Dumplings also on offer, small or regular sizes, Food was delicious, proper homemade Yorkshire Puds were huge, Can’t fault the place, great value for money and delicious homemade grub, with friendly service, what’s not to like?

Did not know this pub existed ‘ were out on a walk and came across it ‘ Staff lovely and friendly ‘ we sat outside for a drink as was sunny’ decided to eat and it was one of the best pub meals we have had’ I got Yorkshire pudding wrap with homemade chips peas and a large jug of gravey’ My partner had chicken parmo with garlic sauce chips and salad ‘ was all lovely and big portions ‘ we will be going back and would recommend it highly

A very friendly pub that does solid big portioned food at very reasonable prices. The filled Yorkshire puddings are great, as is the Cumberland sausage. Unless you are a challenge eater just go for the main course or your belt will explode!. The bar is great and the customers are friendly as well. Lovely place

Lovely hidden gem, perfect after a dog walk at cleadon hills. Gorgeous layout and homely environment. Staff are friendly and attentive. Food is homemade and good portions. Plenty of options for vegetarians like me and you can bring your dogs which is always a bonus. Lovely place , we will be back .

My husband and I wandered over for lunch as we both had a day off together. What a fantastic place for food! Staff were lovely, service was quick and efficient, food was amazing!(recommend the yorkshire pudding wrap) and REAL CHIPS!!!!! We will be back!!

Visited here to try it out after hearing good reviews about it. My sister and I chose mince and dumplings and were both impressed. It was quite busy so did wait a little longer than usual. The portions were absolutely fab! We got carrots, cabbage,mashed potato and peas with a HUGE dumpling with loads of mince! It was served with a large jug of gravy and all of it was piping hot. My only criticism was that normally you're asked if everything is ok with your meal but we weren't asked. Pity because I would've gladly told them it was spot on. For 2 meals and 2 large cokes our bill was just under £17. We will definitely return as we need to try the meatballs next!

Visited with my parents for lunch - we all had something different from the menu - hunters chicken, mince and dumplings and corned beef pie.... All served hot and rather large portions, maybe not necessary to be as large.....

After reading the excellent reviews we decided to have Sunday lunch.

A friend suggested we meet at the White Horse for tea and a catch up. First impressions weren't good, pub looked old and tired but we decided to give it a try. The food was excellent, fresh, tasty piping hot and delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely will go back and recommend the steak pie, it is delicious.

Three adults, and 8 year old and a baby. Great value, sometimes massive portions doesn’t always equate to good food but the meals definitely did satisfy, all of them, massive fresh fish, corned pie and mash, beef wrap with home made chips and chicken nuggets and beans. We’d booked but it was quiet at 1.45pm Saturday afternoon (finishes serving 3pm) Part of the Party was late and we had to prompt the waitress for some drinks and to order but apart from this and the lack of a check back during the meal, the young staff were polite and attentive and took interest in the baby. Lots of options to choose from and a singing chef too, very nice and a lovely location and smart venue inside and out. Even 2 horses stopped by for a drink.

Its a while since we had a meal at this venue and we were not disappointed. Although we had not reserved a table we were quickly found one by the friendly staff. My wife and I go out for Sunday Lunch each week, trying numerous venues, some good, some not so good and a few excellent. The White Horse ended up top of the Excellent meals.

Went with friends on weekday lunchtime . Good selection of hot meals I had the small fish and chips with peas and salad. Delicious. Amazing value and more than adequate did have to wait a while but the food was worth it. Friendly staff. Only down side the room was quite chilly.

On a mid Monday afternoon on a recommendation I visited and immediately received a friendly greeting from the manageress/bar tender and given a menu. I already knew what I wanted and sat in the restaurant section.

Went with family and friends for sunday lunch .the meal was just a small one for 4.95 or large at 6.95 .It was absolutely delicious all home cooked .Great choice of meats including turkey .I had the beef and it just fell apart it was so tender ..plenty of delicious gravy .Everyone really enjoyed thier meal with empty plates .We had apple crumble and custard and sticky toffee pudding and custard and were only 2.95 .amazing ! Definitely a return.visited soon and will be a regular place now to visit .the decor is very up to date .A must for the people in northeast to visit this wonderful.pub for a taste of some exquisite meals .and desserts .

Just got back from this pub mam dad niece and hubby thoroughly enjoyed our meals 2fish and chips and 2 bacon and cheese burgers and a child's chicken nuggets huge portions but delicious cosy atmosphere and lovely staff especially the lady who served us very pleasant found this pub on TripAdvisor would definitely recommend and definitely be back thank you

My family enjoyed our evening meal here. Not been here for around 27 years. It has changed a lot and for the better. The bar area is spacious, the restaurant area to the side is bright, modern with nice decor.

Today (15th july'18) Myself & the Hubby decided to try The White Horse pub for Sunday lunch having heard great reviews about the place.

Full marks to this place for food, staff etc. My father goes every week for Sunday lunch and I go with him whenever I can. Cannot fault good or staff. Fantadtic and well done management xx

Popped in for a last minute lunch and couldn't be happier with the food. The portions are large and so taste amazing especially the yorkshire pudding wrap so will definatly be returning.

I've been the white horse a few times now and I am always given amazing service by the staff. No words can justify how lovely the food is! My favourite go to place for dinner!

Had the spicy meatballs which certainly lived up to the name and very tasty. Partner had corned beef pie which she demolished and mum had a nut roast which she enjoyed. It is very good pub food served in generous portions. Well worth a visit.

Visited with my husband and two grandsons for Sunday lunch. It was our first visit and we booked a table for 3pm. We arrived early and were told that it wasn't a problem, we were shown to a nice table and a drinks order was promptly taken by a friendly waitress. We all ordered small plates of Sunday lunch, being 3 beef and one pork. These arrived within 5 minutes of ordering and boy what a treat! Ample helpings of delicious meat veg and yorkshire puddings. If these were small portions, I would only imagine the size of a big portion!! Absolutely fabulous meal with no room left for dessert. Lovely staff too. Bill came in under £28 for four...unbelievable!! We will certainly be back!! Thank you White Horse.

We were stuck for somewhere to go for Sunday Lunch that was close by and wheelchair friendly as our regular haunts were fully booked so decided to give the White Horse a try and we were not disappointed. We were well impressed with the food quality. It was reasonably quiet but still had a lovely atmosphere. The staff were extremely attentive and very friendly. They advised that the small portions were very generous and the standard were huge so ordered 2 of each. They didn't exaggerate!! Despite the large portions which included 7 different vegetables there was no compromise on quality and it was beautifully cooked and very fresh. We opted for the Apple crumble and custard for sweet and yet again it was delicious. Excellent value for money at under £40 for 4 people which included drinks. We will definitely be going back and would recommend the White Horse for Sunday Lunch

Ate here twice recently, mince, mash and dumplings once and Christmas day dinner. Both were very tasty and plentiful and represented good value for money, staff very pleasant. Dare say I will be popping in again, after the New Year diet.

Visited with my wife and son for lunch, very quiet but very good service and meals so big I had to take a doggie bag home. Nice dining area, friendly helpful staff, god food at a reasonable price, what more could you ask!

Popped into my local as I was told there were new managers in there. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. Went with my hubby and we were seated straight away in a central table. Drinks were served at the table. Staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Choice was mince and dumplings, turkey, beef or pork. I had beef and hubby went for Turkey. Both were plentiful, piping hot and delicious. We each had a drink and it all came in well under £20. Great value for money. Will defo be back.

Visited this pub recently for Sunday lunch and was pleased with the experience. The food was nicely prepared and presented with good portions. Apparently it has only been taken over by the new tenants in the last few weeks and it looks like a good place to visit not only for Sunday lunch but weekdays as well. The place is nicely decorated and although the restaurant area is small it is a pleasant area to eat. It is one of the best places we have been to regarding value for money.

The White Horse was our local when we were young so we thought it would be nice to return to see how it had changed. The restaurant side of the pub was nicer than the bar area and we were lucky to get a nice seat despite not having booked. Apparently it was quieter than normal the day we visited so it may be wise to book. The service was excellent, very helpful and pleasant staff and the meal was lovely. All freshly cooked and very reasonably priced. Will certainly return and lookforward ro trying an evening meal. Will book to ensure we are seated in the restaurant.

I found the restaurant quiet yet with a regular turnover - they only serve evening meals Thursdays and Fridays 6-8 although they do lunch every day.Very helpful, friendly waitress.I had the quarter rabbit on mustard mash in a smoked bacon and black pudding sauce served with fresh veg. It was delicious and the veg carrot, broccoli & cabbage v fresh. Price £5.95The desserts were tempting but I was very satisfied with the main meal.It's in a great location adjacent to local walks.

A few years ago we used to go for meals at The White Horse midweek and thoroughly enjoyed them. Work commitments meant we couldn't go back during the week but we had heard that it had been refurbished and it has been and very smart indeed. So on a horrible wet night with the Cleadon Hills dark in the background we popped in for a quick drink.It was early evening so there were only a few people in and this was our only bug bear. Whereas the younger female barmaid was extremely helpful writing down the current food serving times for weekdays and weekends the other barmaid seemed more concerned with chatting to what we presumed were the regulars. She didn't ask which lager we wanted and didn't say Thankyou or goodbye as I returned the empty glasses and we left. It's only a small point but if your trying to build up a business then it's the little things that stick in your mind.This won't put us off going for food, drink or the live music. The decor is great, carpets and wood work brilliant and the whole pub spotless.

Bought tickets for the New Year, what a let down. So different from two New Years ago, I think it was managed by somebody else then. Then they had a Roy Orbison tribute act, they had a cold and hot buffet on, sandwiches, sausage rolls, pies quiche cakes e.t.c. The hot meal was curry rice chips, and chilie, which was delicious. Also plenty of party poppers to bring in the New Year, with the screen down to count down to midnight. This New year they had a band on I would say heavy rock, I only knew 3 songs all night (not my cup of te) was told the band would play assortment of songs through the years. As for the curry, spongy pieces or reconstructed chicken (cheap) in a watery dish water, no hint of curry flavour, and oven chips nothing else, so if you did not like curry, sorry dishwater you had to go without. When midnight came no screen no count down, no party poppers or streamers, what a washout, no wonder half the customers had left by then, and all for double the price of the tickets 2 years ago. I would be interested to hear, what other people thought about New Years Eve. I must say any other time the food there, was spot on, so don't know what went wrong.

Popped in for an impromptu meal with the children, can't fault the staff, they couldn't have been any more helpful. Food was lovely, proper home cooked food.

Just had a lovely steak (cooked to 'bloody' perfection) and my partner had a turkey Christmas dinner. All round, lovely food, good prices and a good friendly service from Emma (our waitress) ;-)

Booked in for a last minute family meal and was not disappointed.The staff were so lovely especially Emma who was attentive and more to everything we needed for a very indecisive family of 11 including children.We were made to feel more than welcome like we were regulars (which hopefully we will be from now on) right from entering the beautifully newly decorated pub.Then came the food........ just delicious!!!!!!The local band who played created an even better atmosphere but this was an added bonus.Thanks again to Dave (the gaffer) for allowing the kids to feel at home and enjoy the experience it make the adults night much better knowing they are welcome.We will definitely be back and looking forward to many more trips over the coming weeks x

Popped in on impulse for a mid day meal. Haven't been for some time.The staff who greeted us were so friendly and chatty.The refurb has been really well done - love the place mats. Excellent value and the food was very good. May need to reduce the portion sizes a bit (not often you hear that eh?).Give it and try and you wont be disappointed. After reading the previous review by longp2, I felt compelled to write this. Whilst I understand that you can't please everyone, I am amazed by the inaccuracies and general rudeness of this review. Firstly, a local pub cannot enforce a dress code on their patrons. People are allowed to choose their own clothes. It's part of being a grown-up. Secondly, are you sure the food you're talking about was the White Horse? The chicken is pan fried to seal it, then poached in white wine, butter, Rosemary salt and black pepper. Bland??? The veg on the lunch was mash (not lumpy), roast potato (small Maris Pipers, not salad potatoes!!!), swede, carrots, broccoli and Savoy cabbage. How much more veg would you like??? We served 114 people for lunch, no complaints other than yours. 3 excellent reviews left on our FaceBook page, and everyone (except you) left happy. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your experience, but not sorry you won't be back. Our more discerning customers understand and appreciate the hard work that goes into our Sunday lunch, and they are a pleasure to serve week in, week out. The Chef - The White Horse.

After reading the reviews was looking forward to a Sunday lunch. We had booked for 2pm and the table was ready at exactly that time. The staff were lovely but rushed off their feet. The decor is quite nice but if they want to attract more customers they need to up their game. As I walked into the pub there were men blocking the entrance dressed in tracksuit bottoms and a vest top. Not the best first impression I could have had. I had a chicken roast, the chicken was tasteless, the mash lumpy, the one roast potato was actually half a new boiled potato and the veg on offer was cabbage and carrots. We were so disappointed. With a good cook and some diplomatic chats on dress code with the customers it would be a nice little pub but I won't be returning

First time back since it reopened, It was good to be back with my good friends at the round table. Val and Steve are doing a great job, good entertainment, great karaoke what a great atmosphere. Called in for an out of the ordinary mid week evening beer. The bar has recently been refurbished, with that old pallet wood look which is popular at the moment. It sounds bad but it does work well. There was a few people in of mixed ages and all seemed to be friendly. The staff were chatty and welcoming. Although I didn't see any, they do serve food and I think I'd be happy to take the family along to give it a try sometime.

First time visited the restaurant thoroughly enjoyed our meals and drinks very friendly atmosphere. Definitely recommend this restaurant for all occasions. Very nice deco. Lively atmosphere on weekends. Keep up the good work guys.

If you want to experience somewhere very different from the usual run of the mill pubs, then try The White Horse. The beer is first class, great selection of ale and the staff are so helpful. The decor is very "Beachcomber Bar" look, and the atmosphere is very welcoming.

If your looking for a swanky trendy gastropub, this one is not for you! If, however, you're after good value, and food like your mam cooked, make a beeline for the White Horse. I had the belly pork with proper home cooked chips, (they just called them chips!) and three veg, the good lady had mince and dumplings. Served with a full gravy boat. We both had apple pie and custard for pudding. The bill...... £5.90 for us both. The staff, hard working and charming were a delight, the pub lovely and clean. Yes the clientele were a little long in the tooth, but these canny locals can teach us a lot about good old fashioned grub. From Tuesday to Saturday the food is £2.95. Sunday lunch is also very popular.

This pub is at the foot of Cleadon Hills nature reserve. It's great for dog walkers and dogs are welcome when food isn't being served. The food is homely, tasty and cheap as chips. A lot of elderly people get in to have a good feed. Not much atmosphere on the pub side but the place serves a decent pint so give it a try.

All of the food is gorgeous, home cooked and super cheap! As well as cheap wine and other reasonably priced drinks, you simply cannot get better for all round value and taste. Check out the steak night on a Wednesday, amazing deal! Yum :-)

Been about 4 times in the past 2 weeks for the £2.95 2 course special and can't fault it, had the mince and dumplings 3 times and a pork dinner followed by the chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert, don't know how they do it but it's spot on, cheaper than cooking your self.

Visited Fri. Fancied fish &chips good value under a fiver, but told there would be a half hour wait for meal, I accepted that and waited, when the meal came what a let down the fish was out of box that you by from frozen food shops small size and bread crumbed. I paid the bill and complained about the fish and was told that they had ran out of fresh fish, when I asked why I had not been told this when ordering there was no answer. Have been a customer before but not again.

Just had fab meal at white horse (mince and dumplings) and wonderful sweet (chocolate fudge cake and ice cream) YUM YUM all for £2-95. Wish I had time to go everyday for this value.

We had heard from various people about the value for money meals at the White Horse,and not at the expense of quality I may add as we found out..First we booked a table ( strongly advised )for Sunday lunch as it was a full house.You have a choice of a normal size meal with the option of the large one.We opted for the large which neither of us could finish, far to much.So next time we will order the normal plate which is ample for us. We had beef which was delicious and plenty of it, served with five veg.Served by very pleasant and professional staff.After our meal we went into the bar for a drink where we found some very pleasant people to have a chat with,and plan our next visit.We decided to book for the steak night, which is Wednesday.Again welcomed by the same friendly staff,we ordered one steak medium rare and the other medium both arrived cooked to perfection as were the trimmings.And to our surprise you get a bottle of wine free fantastic night.Well done the White Horse.So that leaves us to try the two course meals thro the week priced at £2 95 based on our previous experience we can't wait

popped in on a cold day to warm up with some food and I can say we both weren't disappointed I had the Chinese chicken curry which I have to say is the best I've tasted and my other half had a home made lasagne and he could have ate 2 we now book in on a regular basis the price is unbelievable you'd be crazy not to try the place 5++++ stars from us :)

The staff were very good, but the food was bland/average to say the least, and the place was colourless with lots of black like a funeral parlour.

Booked today table for three we all had the fish and chips , the whole meal was superb . The batter was exceptional and the chips were the best . I would recommend this to anyone The price was unbelievable at £4-95 .Certainly going back again a.s.a.p.

5 of us went today for a special dinner, menu is a bit limited but food is great. We had 3 lots of fish and chips, 1 chicken pasta and a steak pie. One meal with a starter and 3 with a desert at a total cost of £21.85 with every plate clean and everyone very happy, ok not the biggest of portions but as far as value for money its spot on. We will be back to try the steak night , oh and the staff and service were brilliant :-)

Hubby took me to local with new chef !! Couldn't fault the meal . 2 steaks and bottle wine (upgrade available) for £11.95..chips lush . Steak not massive but worth it . Home made coleslaw very nice . Def worth a visit.

Great decor beautiful surroundings helpful waitress with very tasty gammon .cheap and cheerful with a bottle of wine but no choice of fizz ie champagne or brut

2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £12. Well worth it. Chips, onion rings and coleslaw all homemade not many pubs do that anymore. Will definitely be returning for a Wednesday night special, you couldn't complain.

What can I say ,fabulous food at a really affordable price. The service was excellent nothing was a bother to the staff and they were very pleasant. Lovely comfortable friendly atmosphere. Will certainly go back again and would happily recommend it to everyone.

Very good traditional home cooked Sunday lunch at a very reasonable price .we are regular customers here at the white horse and can honestly say we have never been disappointed with the food here .steak nights are also great value for money 2 steaks with all the trimmings and a bottle of wine for only £ 11.95 you cannot grumble for that price .staff and management always make u feel welcome here they also serve a good pint aswell .

Good food any time, steak wed fish & chips fri roast sun and 3course £5 tue/wed/thur. Great traditional cooking anytime. And the Stones bitter is the best about.

Nothing short of fantastic value for good home cooked food the best around by far the staff and managment friendly and made us feel welcome hope to be back this week.

We've been here 3 times on a Wednesday (steak night). The first time it was ok, but the last two times it has been really great. Home made onion rings, proper chips, coleslaw, salad, lovely steak cooked to your preference - you can also have gammon, chicken, fish and they are very accommodating to the children. All this for 10 pounds for 2 and you get a bottle of wine. The red is rather like Ribena, the white is very sweet, however, what do you want for that money? Lol. You are not bothered to finish immediately, there is a desert menu - however, it would take someone better than me to want a desert after all that food and I am exceptionally greedy!! Really lovely food.

You get a very reasonable lunch at a very good price. Service is good and atmosphere relaxing. We have been 5 times in the last 2 years

This pub serves down to earth home cook food. I picked the 3 x course lunch menu, the food was not bad at all, and at £5 per head for the meal per person you can not go wrong. The other half had fish & chips with mushy peas and salad, and wait for it, home made chips at less then £6 per head. We'll worth a try.P.s great pint

we visited here for sunday lunch on 1st December. the bar it self was quiet but the restaurant area was quite busy, we had booked a table for 2.30 and were informed there was a slight delay due to a system error but we were happy to wait in the bar.The décor is quite modern and a little quirky but nice,Once seated we ordered drinks and asked if it was possible to have chicken on the sunday lunch although it wasn't on the menu, we were told yes and ordered 2 roast dinners.The food arrived promptly and looked as good as it tasted, the portions were prefect and my chicken was well cooked not dry, the veg was lovely and real Yorkshire puds and roasties..... yummy.My partners beef was cooked to perfection and he agreed the roast was lovely and great value.We ordered ice cream and a steamed orange sponge for dessert, they weren't great but the dinner was amazing so over all for around £10 each a great lunch.

Ordered mince and dumplings, great home cooked style of food! Service was fab and didn't wait very long at all for it to be delivered to our table . All in all highly recommended !!

Where to begin.The pub albeit a little out of the way is a lovely establishment situated in cleadon hills. The owners clearly make great effort with its upkeep and decoration. The beer is second to none. Im yet to hear a complaint and I have none. A truely beautiful pint. The staff are helpful and pretty cheery. The food. Oh the food is out of this world. From your day today pub grub and slightly more "posh nosh" to sunday lunches theres something for everyone. Children are catered for with a wide range of kids meals. The deals are unbelievable. I dont know how they do it. The meals are incredible but the prices more so, I regulary take up the 3course for £5.00 on a tuesday and thursday I believe it is. Wednesday 2steaks and wine for £10! Infact if I were local this would be my local.

Every Wednesday this offer is on. 2 steaks & a bottle of wine for a tenner. Excellent value for money. Fast & friendly service. Great atmosphere.

I took my elderly parents here for Friday lunch. This was my first visit to the White Horse for more years than I care to mention and it hasnt changed a lot. It is set at the foot of Cleadon Hills and is mainly used by locals. The decor is a typical bar area with a hodge podge of tables and chairs in the dining area, the food however was excellent, I had a roast chicken dinner which was delicious served with fresh vegetables, my parents had fish & chips which they both said were better than the more famous fish and chip shop near the sea front last but not least the beer, it is a pub after all and the beer was worth sampling too.if your nearby call in and give it a try
