After 3 years of visiting Up North Pizza it still remains the best pizza we’ve ever had. Excellent pizzas & puds, gorgeous wine & ice cold beer, & the music is fab !! Can’t fault it even with the high volume of Great North Run customers you still got it spot on. Oh, & they’re dog friendly too 🐶 Thank you for 2 tasty nights out .. see you next year 😁👍🏼

I recently visited up North, and I can confidently say it's one of the best places I've ever been to since moving to the area. Wow. Just wow. I've been all over the country in countless pizza establishments and this my padres is the real deal. Super friendly staff and super knowledgeable chefs combined with a laid back atmosphere and very reasonably priced beverages is almost too much to comprehend. Well played good people. If you love pizza come here, if you don't then still come and leave loving pizza. Doing the north proud, I shall be returning .... Alot. X

Food is brilliant, some of the best pizza I’ve had in the North East as very reasonable prices. Think soft neopolitan crust, delicately charred to perfection. Staff are a mixed bag. On the one hand they are professional, but they feel a little aloof at times - doesn’t make for the most relaxed environment. I’ve also been asked to arrange my seating in a subtly different way on more than one occasion. They just need to chill a little. Well decorated venue with well managed noise level and reasonable space between tables.

This was one of the best pizzas I was blessed to have in my life. It's by far the best in south shields, probably the UK. I highly recommend it if you are in the area and you are looking for something special that will blow your mind. Keep it guys!!!

These guys understand pizza! The fennel salami on the diavola is moreish and deep in flavour. The staff are friendly, approachable and attentive. Casual atmosphere, serious pizza.

We’ve been coming here since it opened and can honestly say it’s the best pizza in the North East. Never disappointed and the staff are amazing.

The food is fine but the waiter exhibited such rude, dismissive and arrogant behaviour that we won’t be returning. Very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. Maybe a refresher course in basic manners is in order. Even had the cheek to put a service charge on! Laughable.

The pizza and drinks were very good . Unfortunately the young guy who waited on us was extremely rude throughout the night . A night out is about relaxing and enjoying the vibe so it’s left a sour taste And because of this we would never return .

Don't want to give these guys away, since they're really local to me, and I want them all to myself! But... that would be selfish :) It's a super chill place, informal, cozy, with great pizza.

Everything is 5* here. Food amazing, service amazing, drinks choice amazing and the staff really look after you. Plus they have so much vegan choice here, and the best pizza in town.

Paid £28 for 1 pizza 2 salads a wee tub of garlic sauce and a something that looked like half a pizza...my mum said you only get what you pay for maybe not this time.... The Big Fish pizza is so much tastier. there was no flavor appart from the wee tub of garlic sauce I had to buy (£20) on top from here. Big fish is so much nicer a d much better value. I actually threw half my very expensive pizza out for the birds as is was soggy n tastless. If you go to bog fish you can actually buy one get one free.and they are fantastic.

Like others have mentioned bad experience with staff members being rude. It’s a shame as I’ve been here a few times - there have been a few mishaps like accidentally serving me a meat nduja pizza rather than the veggie one (so I would be careful if you are veggie / vegan and double check the order). Another time they forgot to take our order for over an hour, eventually we ordered at the till and they were very apologetic - it was no problem as it was busy and these things happen. However the man who served us tonight (tall, glasses) was so rude and passive aggressive it made for a very uncomfortable experience that has put me off ever going again. There was a miscommunication (my fault) and he was so nasty about it I actually ended up crying in the restaurant….I have honestly never had an experience like it and as it was near empty in there it just made it so awkward. The pizza and drinks were nice to be fair but this ruined the evening and experience for us. I am not a confrontational person at all, however I did message management to let them know the experience ahead of writing the review, as I wanted to give them a chance to deal with it directly. From the response I think it may have been the manager himself who was our server, and it wasn’t handled well, so I don’t think any of our table of six would be back for that reason.

We went for a birthday meal, and accidentally booked the incorrect day. We were mortified upon realising (which we didn’t realise until we turned up on the day). The man serving us was so aggressive I ended up crying. The restaurant itself was empty tonight so thankfully we were able to be sat no problem despite the confusion. He continued to be rude through the whole evening, it was very embarrassing and obviously we felt terrible. The food and cocktails are nice here and we tried to make the most of it as we were celebrating a birthday but it was just a very uncomfortable experience. Mistakes happen, on a previous visit the waiter forgot to take our order for an hour and it was no problem as mistakes happen…. I did message the management as I didn’t want to blind side then with this review but they said it they felt this was handled fine, despite the discomfort of the entire table and upsetting people to the point of teases. We paid the service charge in full despite it being a very uncomfortable experience as we felt awful obviously but we wouldn’t come again after the way it has been handled

Nice chilled out place to have a spot of food...only had a snack of salad and some bruschetta and coffees but was spot on.. Next trying the pizzas 🍕 they have to offer up. It's dog friendly as well so 5 stars there

Hands down, best pizza in South Shields. Don't know why it has taken us so long to visit. Everything tasted fresh, it wasn't soggy and falling apart in the middle like other places selling these types of pizza. Great selection of drinks and their house wine is lovely. Will defo be back, can't stop thinking about it.

Fantastic little pizza place doing beautiful wood fired pizzas. Dough is perfection. Vegan and alcohol-free options available - basic vegan cheese £2 extra or a posh one for £3 - my advice is pay the £3 as it's divine

By far the best pizzas around. Staff are always so welcoming and always a friendly atmosphere. Kids love it too, there is always a lovely selection of cakes and drinks, even a cheeky cocktail. Would recommend the hummus with the flatbread and olives. Amazing 👏

One of our favourite spots. Great choice of drinks and the food is unreal. Best pizza I’ve had outside of Naples by far. Dough and ingredients are unreal. Also such a big fan of the hummus - you guys should sell it by the tub to take away!

I go here often, the best pizzas by a country mile for vegans. I usually don't get vegan cheese added but as there are specials on for veganuary I tried the Courgette, White Onion, Pesto, Rocket & Julienne Bruno Super Straccia, absolutely fantastic, I hope they keep the cheese on the menu as an option 😋

We have been visiting Up North as often as possible for the last year+ and have always been amazed by the quality of the food and drink. Our last visit, during 'veganuary', we had an absolutely amazing pizza with the Jullienne Bruno cheese, it doesn't get much better. As someone who has enjoyed some of 'the best' pizza from New York city, for me Up North trumps it every time!

Stayed nearby, ordered 2 pizzas and a garlic bread for collection. Pizzas were being made when I arrived, so a few minutes wait, but considering it was 7.30 on a Saturday night, perfectly reasonable! The food was excellent, atmosphere seemed nice and chilled.

A favourite place of ours to go! Absolutely love the veganuary specials, such incredible vegan cheese!! Really hope they keep this on 🤞🏻 it went really well with the rocket and courgette!

Visited twice recently. Second time was a table of 5 on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. Brilliant friendly service, amazing food and great tunes/atmosphere. Good veggie and vegan options (including veggie Nduja!). Would highly recommend.

We love coming here - it’s our local coffee shop. The small pizzas for lunch are gorgeous and the staff are super friendly. It’s our go to place for lunch and tea. We hope they’ll do breakfasts in the future!

First time coming here tonight with my friends and this is directly aimed at the chefs LACK of customer service towards us at the end before we left. When it came to collecting our pizzas the chef belittled us by saying we hadn’t ordered a pizza with hot honey when in fact we had. The chef then very sarcastically suggested we were in the wrong about our orders. Instead of the chef apologising once he acknowledged they were in the wrong we had no apology and felt a very awkward atmosphere when leaving this place. The hot honey was eventually added to the pizza after a big song and dance on the chefs part about it Such a shame because the food was spot on!

They sell burned pizza, never ever try again 😖

Love this place. Discovered recently since moving into the area and wow! Talk about delicious. Always fresh hot pizza, daily salad is consistently amazing, ate here 3 times in the last couple of weeks. New favourite. Highly recommend the cocktails. Staff are funny and great characters. Not only were the staff helpful and hospitable to us, they also extended their welcome to my very hungry dog. We got stuck after the Great North Run in wet clothes, with no food and a very sad puppy. The staff were really helpful and the food was delicious.

We popped in after the Great North Run, along with a lot of other very cold and wet runners. We had garlic bread, cocktails and coffees. The food and drinks were amazing and all the staff were brilliant with the runners.

100% recommend. From high quality dough to the fresh ingredients this pizzeria moves in to my top 3 pizza restaurants, as it is the weekend of the great north run I had to wait for the pizza. However, it is worth the wait. I enjoyed a great pint of Camden Town in the sunshine before taking the short walk down to beach to carb load ready for race day.

10/10, perfect local pizza. Service is super quick with pizzas in and out of the oven In minutes! All of the staff are super friendly and welcoming and to make the place even better it’s dog friendly! Will definitely be coming back. Would recommend reserving a table as space is limited, however you can get pizzas to takeaway and there is outside space to sit in and this location is a stones throw from the beach.

Lovely evening spent at Up North, the staff were massively accomodating for our group of 15. The staff were very attentive and provided top class pizzas that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

Went to Up North for the first time for my birthday meal. The food was fantastic but what really topped the night was the people that worked there, 11/10 would highly recommend for both quality of food and service.

By far the best pizza in south shields. Lovely place to eat in or out. Open kitchen so you can see what's going on. First time from using this gem of a place. We ordered a margherita and a spicy meat feast with two garlic dips. Fantastic dough with lovely charring on the edge of base, my daughter who is veggie said it is hands down the finest margherita she has ever had. My spicy meat feast was very good, the little drop peppers where a revelation they popped in my mouth and were so sweet to compliment the chilli base sauce along with the pepperoni & njuda. The one small gripe i had was that the jalapeños were the pickled variety, if they'd of been fresh it would of been perfect. Saying that it in no way detracted from the expirience. Summary i shall return again and sit iin next time. Please if you love pizza then this place is very very very good. This place and Gallo Nero do the best in the town as they both know that a quality base and quality ingredients make a taste sensation. Up north also cater for vegan's and alcohol. Our score 10/10

Had a veggie option tonight friends had meat option ....I'm not a veggie but fancied a change .... So tasty and defo the best pizza this side of shields. Overall a good pizza with a good base and flavours. However, please, please, please, invest in some decent cutlery. The dine in eating experience was spoilt significantly by cheap pressed steel knives and forks.

If you are missing the pizzas from little green, Sandyford, then a visit here is a must. Former LG pizza chef Steven is at his excellent best, his pizza dough is outstanding, the passion he has for creating top quality pizzas is clear to see and taste! LG vegan favourites Rustica and Diavlo are on the menu alongside Up North creations both vegan and non vegan. Though not on the menu a really nice salad was made for me, there is a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The venue is really cute and clean, staff super friendly, good music playing, a few minutes from the beach.... We loved it and will definitely visit again.

Absolutely loved our first time having pizza at Upnorth. Ive been in during the day for cuppas and cakes and they've been delicious...but their pizzas are even better. Fab customer service and suggestion of trying the chilli honey dip. We ended up buying a bottle to take home because it was so so good! Great range of drinks and craft beers too. Perfect prep and serve time and perfect pizzas! Will be back soon for sure.

Very disappointing pizza, soggy and a unpleasant. Asked for extra chillies - no sign of a chilli, just some chilli oil/sauce. Will not be using this outlet again.
