Lovely friendly staff by brill food excellent

In for a family party, they had reserved the back part of the bar for us, as it was the birthday girl's regular haunt. Staff were tremendous. Great patter, incredibly helpful, can't do enough for you. Good selection of drinks, plenty screens, place was clean and tidy. Empties collected promptly.

Love this place. My friends and I meet there for a coffee once a week, lovely drinks and staff are welcoming and friendly. Great place to catch up with friends over a drink!

Visited with my Brother and Aunt. The service was good and very prompt. A good selection of vegetarian food and reasonably priced. Fabulous selection of drinks. Staff on the whole were polite and efficient with only one exception who seemed a bit cold clipped and annoyed. The only let down was I spotted one of the bar staff/waitress hovering 3 times and as soon as we were finished plate snatched which made me feel uncomfortable, unwelcome and unwanted. Even though the place wasn't busy. Plus made us feel like we had to hurry with our drinks and be out. Toilets were clean and well maintained. Would be happy to go in alone.

I was in South Shields and as the other restaurants on Ocean Road were very busy, i decided to try The Lounge. I wasn't disappointed as the bistro really won out on value, friendliness and ambience. £ 8.55 for chicken tikka masala with pitta bread and chips is very reasonable these days and while not the best meal I've ever had, it was decent and the tikka masala was hot and spicy as I would expect. Also I washed this down with a really nice pint of Aspalls cider, which came to £4, again not bad these days. Other good points about The Lounge was the friendly lady behind the bar who seemed to know some of the customers, a sign the bistro gets plenty of repeat visits, the mood lighting, BBC News on the television with subtitles and the immaculate toilets. I'd definitely recommend this venue to anyone wanting a decent meal for under £10.

Had North Shields fishcakes they were reasonable for the price paid, coffee was alright and service was good. This place is pretty consistent in my experience, cost isn't too bad, had curry on the past and it's very tasty, food isn't anything to make a song and dance about but its not bad either!

Shame really, the place has some great potential truly! The interior is really well laid out and genuinely well thought through… however, thats where our good experiences came to an end. Getting served was a struggle, the gentleman (who was genuinely very polite) explained that they were busy and he was struggling to keep up, looking around less than 1/3 of the tables were seated and most had already been served food, it did make us question where the drama was… but anyway, we ordered jacket potatoes with 2 toppings and I challenged why on the bill we had been charged for a second topping, the young lady explained that only one topping was included (bit odd, not very well explained on the menu but ok) then when the food came out and was handed to us by the very same person who had taken the order AND been challenged on the price, there was only one topping on it anyway? The kitchen staff came out saying they couldn’t read the staff writing a lot of the time BUT they were quick to resolve the problem. Sadly, we found the potatoes to be incredibly dry and the toppings to be very sparse. I sadly honestly wouldn’t recommend the place based on this experience which I’m sad to say.

Unusual layout, very good service, attentive staff, clean and pleasant - menu looked good. We had 2 baked potatoes, and fresh home made fish cake with locally sort fish.

We came down to Shields for a long weekend and found this place. On the second visit we were shown the cocktail menu and never looked back. Fantastic atmosphere with super friendly staff and management. Visit is highly recommended

The toilets were awesome, however I got charged 3.50£ for chips and gravy, while on the menu said 2.95£ not a big deal, but shows that If they see you as tourist they will try and make the most. Cheeeers

Great service, good beer and food

We were very pleased to find this place for lunch. Staff all really polite and were very quick to take our drinks order and serve us. Very reasonable prices for the amount and quality of food. Food arrived very quickly and was delicious. Thank you for a lovely lunch!

One of our favourite places for afternoon tea.

Popped in for lunch and ordered the steak. If your going to ask how I'd like it done then attempt to cook it that way. Not only was it as dry as a bone it was tasteless. Only positive was the friendly bar staff.

The guy working the bar was nice and helpful but poor rating is totally based on the food. If your going to ask me how I'd like a steak cooked, at least attempt to get it right.

Visited the Lounge twice during a 4 day break to South Sheilds, first time was for a couple of drinks, friendly bar staff and nice welcome, obviously prices are cheaper up North, we paid £6.00 for a 175 ml Wine and pint of Larger, usually £8 odd in Salisbury. The second visit was yesterday for a couple more drinks and an early evening bite to eat, I ordered Rump Steak with chips and normal trimmings while my wife had a Chicken curry, meal turned up about 15 minutes later, the food was nice and hot and both of us agreed that the quality and taste of the food was very good, We would certainly recommend the Lounge to anyone in the area.

We came here for lunch on a Saturday. From the outside, we thought it might be pricey as it looks so nice, but when we checked out the menu, we were pleasantly surprised!! There are plenty of choices on the menu, but being by sea, we both opted for fish dishes. The portions are generous, and really good value for money. The staff were friendly and efficient, even though they seemed to be slightly short staffed (I suspect someone had maybe called in sick). The food came out quickly and was delicious. The drinks are reasonably priced. We don't have kids, but if we did, we would bring them here as there is a mix and match children's menu for £3.95 (including a drink). Will definitely come back here again.

Great place to visit in South Shields and they serve some nice ales and ciders, plus some exotic cocktails. The food is excellent too.. The ladies love the variety of cocktails here. Give. The staff here are really helpful. Give the Lounge a visit 👍

Great sandwitch and nice wine staff really friendly

We've visited a few times. The food is great: lots of choice and very reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and helpful. There's plenty of room so we were able to manoeuvre our pushchair easily and our toddler was able to get up and about. One of our go to places I'd we're visiting South Shields.

The staff here a superb. They are very helpful and cater carefully for my gluten issue. They did me a huge breakfast including gluten free toast. It was lovely. I will return frequently. It’s well priced and well situated, spacious and good value.

It was nice very clean warm welcome and cocktails were 2 for 9 pound which is amazing!!! Would recommend.

We visited the Lounge for our Book Group Christmas lunch. The manager went out of his way to make us feel welcome. The table was beautifully decorated and set with Christmas crackers etc. and our post lunch coffees were served with little amaretti biscuits. These little touches make all the difference!

Visited on a quiet, rainy Saturday for an early lunch. Large portions, good value served by a very helpful, friendly guy.

Visited here for a birthday treat. Early o'clock cocktails and tapas. Lovely tapas including chicken skewers, spicy prawns and garlic mushrooms. Excellent cocktails at a reasonable price. Lovely.

Nice atmosphere in bar area. Toilets are up steep stairs and have two toilets to a cubicle. Wouldn't suit everyone.

We came here to celebrate my 30th birthday, just me and my fiancé. It was very quiet with it being a weekday but we initially were made to feel welcome. We arrived at 8pm ordered 4 cocktails as it was 2 for £9. We were really enjoying our time and got carried away chatting meaning we had most of our drinks left. At 9 the barman came over and told us to drink up as he was closing. We were mid conversation so it seemed very rude. This meant we had to stop our conversation and drink up rushing meaning we couldn’t truly enjoy them. It wasn’t how I wanted to end my 30th birthday celebrations and I think the place let themselves down with this as the drinks we really nice. If I was back in the area I wouldn’t visit here again.

Always enjoy popping into The Lounge for a cuppa or a bite to eat. Plenty of seating, service is lovely and the food is usually decent and always reasonably priced.

I have been several times and have a different meal 🍴 all are lovely. I even had that vegetarian Wellington it was worth not having Meat. The staff are great, the place is comfortable and prices are good to, as is children's menu, I was happy that unlike a lot of places they could have milk instead of a sugary drink which is so much better. Try it out you will enjoy it.

Called in for a coffee and it was outstanding. There is also a well stocked bar if we had wanted something esle. This is a very good venue for a drink run by a very good and friendly team. It is also very good value for money.

Went for lunch with the girls. Service was good,food was lovely wide range of choice and they also had soup with toasties. Great place for anyone just wanting to have a coffee and a catch up with the friends. Denise

Decided to try The Lounge, for my husbands birthday, he loves tapas, I spotted a review for this restaurant on trip advisor, and decided to try it. A decision we certainly won’t regret. The welcome we received on entering was very warm and friendly. The drinks order was taken promptly, and brought very soon after, when the food order was taken. While waiting for our order we were served with olives bread and oil, which was very nice, we waited a little while for our food to be served, but not overly long, considering everything was freshly cooked. No matter how long we waited, it would not have mattered, everything was beautifully cooked, hot, and very tasty. All members of staff were very helpful and friendly, and the bill when it came was very reasonable. We will definitely be returning.

I enjoyed have a few drinks here, but a bouncer became overly aggressive at one point because my friends touched some Christmas decorations so it soured the evenong, no need for it.

This is a very pleasant place to eat and drink. They have a good selection of meals on the menu and there is a nice atmosphere. It's clean, pleasant and it doesn't attract rowdy folk with screaming kids either, so I would much rather eat here than across the road. From reading other reviews, I will have try the tapas and Sunday Lunch in the future. Good selection of ales and lagers. Great place to drop in after shopping in the supermarket nearby. Service is quick. Very nice sandwiches and burgers.

It is well worth going for the tapas but the mains must be the best English in South Shields. The lounge gets away from hasty prepared pub grub where you can nearly hear the micro waves working overtime . The food and drinks are well priced with value for money . We will be going again .

Just had the most amazing roast short rib of beef for lunch with veg, roasties and extra gravy! The best lunch in South Shields- the team here are great and cannot do enough. Don't bother going anywhere else - just head here as the wines, beers and cocktails are ace too. Perfect place, perfect food and perfect Sunday. Great to have a fantastic independent bar offering such great food. No chain pub deep fried stuff here. Thank you The Lounge!

Great food cocktails and friendly staff

Went on New Year's Eve after being twice before for tapas and it gets better every time. The surroundings are good, friendly staff and superb tapas. Would definitely recommend!!!

El lugar en sí era precioso. Visitamos gran día para algunos van hacia el norte, mientras que el tráfico de comida para tranquilizarme. Las hamburguesas y sándwiches tostados eran muy buenos, pero nos confundido en cuanto a por qué los aperitivos estaban trajo al mismo tiempo que la red. Las tartas que nos dieron estaban muy seco, pero comestible, y algunos eran agradables. Nos dimos cuenta de que el gerente era muy gruñón, que ya bastante grosero, hasta el punto de que una de las camareras se excusa por el camino habló con nosotros.

El personal es muy acogedor y nada es una molestia para ellos y la comida es increíble muchas opciones diferentes y los aperitivos son fabulosas - ulous

Visited The Lounge last week and had s lovely lunch there. My mum had steak which was perfect and my pasta was so tasty, I'll be popping back this week with my other half. Very comfortable bar with really helpful staff. Give it a try!
